Omega Loses To Devitt, But Golden Lovers Get Title Shot

7. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Prince Devitt (c) defeated Kenny Omega with the Bloody Sunday (17:29).

DDT’s involvement in New Japan led to the main event of today’s NJPW show dedicated to Kotetsu Yamamoto. The rare Gaijin Vs Gaijin main event had Prince Devitt successfully defend his IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title over Kenny Omega. While this was a setback for DDT, they have another chance to take away some New Japan gold in the future. On the 11th October in Sumo Hall, the Golden Lovers team of Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi will get a shot at the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championships against either Apollo 55 or Gedo & Jado. Both teams have history with the DDT duo. Omega has already beaten Ryusuke Taguchi twice while Ibushi has faced off with Devitt a couple of times in Best Of The Super Junior tournaments, the most high profile bout being from this year’s grand final. Meanwhile, Jado was injured by dives from Ibushi & Omega the last time they fought each other, while Gedo has been a thorn in Ibushi’s side ever since last year’s Super J Cup. No matter who winds up as the champions, either team against the Golden Lovers will create a very exciting IWGP Jr. Tag Title match.

Omega Vs Devitt Confirmed For NJPW Main Event!

August 30, 2010

In a battle that could be more epic than an X Vs Sigma showdown, Kenny Omega will be representing DDT on the 3rd September when he challenges Prince Devitt for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title in the main event of New Japan’s Kotetsu Yamamoto Memorial Show. Omega called out Devitt right after beating the Irishman’s tag team partner Ryusuke Taguchi at the most recent DDT Korakuen Hall show. Devitt accepted his challenge and it didn’t take long for the NJPW office to confirm the match.

Edit: The news is all about Omega today as he took part in SMASH.7 over at Shinjuku FACE. He defeated SMASH’s own resident Canadian, Mentallo with the Croyt’s Wrath.

Hikaru Sato In AJPW, Omega To SMASH, Sawa To EVOLVE (Into Sawasaur)

July 27, 2010

A brief note on a few outside adventures featuring DDT related talent. Hikaru Sato is currently taking part in All Japan Pro Wrestling for their annual Jr. Heavyweight League. He is already onto a good start in the competition, pinning Hiroshi Yamato in their bout with a German Suplex to win 2 points in Block A. That show was held in Korakuen Hall and took place on the same day as DDT’s Peter Pan show in Sumo Hall. Sato’s next match takes place today in Saitama and his opponent is the AJPW Jr. Heavyweight Champion, Kaz Hayashi.

Kenny Omega will make his debut for Tajiri’s SMASH promotion on the 30th August in Shinjuku FACE. He will take on another Canadian wrestler, Mentallo, who has been a familiar face (er… mask) to SMASH fans since the promotion’s first show back in March.

Finally KO-D Tag Team Champion, Munenori Sawa will make a trip back to the US in September for the fifth EVOLVE show. He will be in the main event taking on Bryan Danielson in a match I am really excited to see take place.
