An audience of over 2,000 fans packed Korakuen Hall on New Year’s Eve to witness a marathon of pro wrestling that will lead into 2012. DDT was up first to end their eventful year with a big bang. KUDO tied the record for most defences of the KO-D Openweight Championship by defeating his rival MIKAMI in the main event. Ladders were legal for the match but even with the advantage of using his favourite weapon, MIKAMI couldn’t get the job done. KUDO continues his role of leading the company towards Budokan Hall for DDT’s 15th Anniversary show. However, his next challenger was also revealed. Danshoku Dino wants a shot at the belt and will get it when DDT holds its first 2012 Korakuen show on 29th January.
The bizarre Idol War between Homoiro Clover Z and the 48 Group reached its conclusion with Danshoku Dino leading his multi-colored troops to victory over Sanshiro Takagi and his “Bukkake Alliance” of splinter groups from around the world. Makoto Oishi was the sole survivor of the 10-Man Elimination Tag, pinning Takagi with the Tornado Clutch. He was given big hugs by his teammates for a job well done.
The Crying Wolf stable is quickly gaining ground in DDT with Yasu Urano & Yuji Hino winning the KO-D Tag Team Championship over Keisuke Ishii & Shigehiro Irie. Yuji Hino has now declared a full scale invasion on DDT. After the match, Masa Takanashi & Daisuke Sasaki came out to challenge the new champions for a title shot. Tsurumi Amon tried to prevent the match from happening because he thought the challenging team haven’t proven themselves but Urano & Hino accepted it. The two teams will meet at the 22/01 Chiba show.
This was the second championship Shigehiro Irie lost this week. He dropped the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title to Kanjuro Matsuyama at an Osaka Pro two days ago. Tigers Mask is now the current champion.
Japanese musician Sunplaza Nakano was in attendance to announce he was recording the official anthem for DDT’s Budokan Hall show. He also performed the song “Runner” for the Runner Contra Runner match. I had a listen to both his version and the original song by BAKUFU-SLUMP. It’s a pretty good song. If you like the Eurobeat soundtrack in Initial D then you will like Sunplaza’s version.
It was announced that Hard Hit will return on 22nd March for a show at Shinjuku FACE, so the brand has not been retired. It is likely that Hikaru Sato will face Michael Nakazawa on the show as per the stipulation for their defeat to Antonio Honda & Keita Yano.
Regarding the champion change, apparently Kanjuro is still the champion since while http://xxtreme.web.infoseek.co.jp/title.html has it on their site, i can’t see anything on http://www.osaka-prowres.com/result/?p=2315 about it.
