Site Update

July 29, 2012

The site will be quiet for the next couple of days since I will be over in London for the Olympics. I’ll be back before the Beer Garden week ends so I won’t miss much leading up to the big Budokan show. There may be updates posted on the Twitter page but don’t count on it. Any results missed will be caught up to date by Friday. There will also be a break after the Budokan show since I will be on holiday at the end of August, but I’ll figure that out when the time comes. See you lot in a few days.

*Gorgeous Matsuno becomes the 938th champion.

What a busy day for Kota Ibushi. First off he wins the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title in New Japan, then he teams with future opponent Kenny Omega in DDT. Then he suddenly gets challenged by DJ Nira. That’s right, DJ Nira finally cashed in his “Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere” contract to get his KO-D Openweight Title match right there in Shin-Kiba 1st Ring.

But we’ll get to that in a moment. Before that happened, Michael Nakazawa had some words to say to the Golden Lovers. He was in the corner for both Ibushi & Omega when they won their titles in New Japan and All Japan. Now the loyal dog was going to bite back. Him and Gota Ihashi tried to jump the Golden Lovers but they were easily brushed aside. Nakazawa then said the match was now a 3-On-2 Handicap match. Unfortunately for him, the third man never came out and the match continued as scheduled. Kenny ducked the Ultlimate Venom Arm of Nakazawa and pinned him with the Croyt’s Wrath. That was when DJ Nira appeared.

Nira low blowed Ibushi to start the match. He tried to do a Body Slam but the champion was too heavy and fell on top of him. Nira tried a distraction tactic and asked Ibushi to say his 7 times tables and his 2 time tables. The distraction gave Nira enough time to recover and hit Ibushi with the dreaded Rocket Punch. Too bad Ibushi noticed one of his boot laces was untied and he bent over to fix it. Nira flew over Ibushi and the Rocket Punch missed its target. Ibushi then hit Nira with a Lariat and finished him off with multiple Power Bombs to end one of the more bizarre title defences in Ibushi’s career.

DJ Nira was beaten so badly he had to be placed on a table and stretchered out to the back. However, Gorgeous Matsuno kept him in the ring since they had a tag team match against KUDO & Makoto Oishi beginning next. Nira was a non-factor for most of the match even with his opponents trying to keep him standing. After that match, Nira said he decided to cash in tonight because he heard Tsurumi Amon say the Budokan Hall show was cancelled. Amon had no idea where he got that idea from. Nira blamed Amon for his defeat, saying that this show was supposed to be his Budokan moment. He then crawled back onto the stretcher table and asked to be carried away (I managed to get four paragraphs out of a DJ Nira match. I think that’s some sort of achievement.)

Seiya Morohashi continued to wrestle as Shuji Ishikawa’s replacement, taking the big man’s place in the main event. HARASHIMA regained momentum heading towards Budokan Hall after he pinned Shigehiro Irie with the Somato. Afterwards, he brought out Togi Makabe to talk about their upcoming match against Ishikawa & Ryuji Ito. They confirmed it will be a Hardcore match. When Makabe noticed that Ishikawa wasn’t here, he asked where that “muppet” was. When told that Shuji has rubella, Makabe said that was a fine excuse. HARASHIMA vowed that he and Makabe will win.

The friendly competition within Monster Army continued when the Crying Wolf side faced the Familia side in a 6-Man Tag. The Familia brought in an unexpected cornergirl, Yoshiko from Stardom. However, Yoshiko cost her team the match and Antonio Honda revealed her as a spy for Crying Wolf! Honda said that she and Tanomusaku Toba are the final members of their football team for Budokan Hall.

The Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title is back from Bolivia and just as active as ever. Nine title changes occured at the show. Choun-Shiryu got revenge on Yuki Sato for ambushing him a few weeks ago by doing the same to win the title. Then during the scheduled title match, Hiroshi Fukuda wound up as the winner. Gorgeous Matsuno then won the belt. Then Matsuno lost it to Makoto Oishi during their tag team match which also included KUDO and a disappointed DJ Nira. Fukuda ran down to the ring to win the belt again before fleeing. Matsuno caught up with Fukuda at the end of the show and left Shin-Kiba as the latest champion.

New World Japan attacked Rion Mizuki as he made his entrance for the opener. After the defeat, Sanshiro Takagi offered to buy Mizuki’s robe for 500,000 yen. Mizuki refused and after a lot of arguing, Takagi said he was going to spend 10 million yen to make the greatest robe ever in time for Budokan Hall.

1. Goro Jr. defeated Taichi Kazato with the Goro Suplex (15:52).
2. Cherry defeated Rabbit Miyu by Pinfall (6:11).
3. Rock ‘N’ Roll Death Match: A. YAZAWA & Mame Endo defeated Mio Shirai & Hiroshi Fukuda (w/ Rumi Kazama) when YAZAWA pinned Fukuda with an Upstart Kick (14:19).
4. Hardcore Triple Threat Match: Isami Kodaka defeated Ken Ohka and Kengo Ohka when Kodaka submitted Ken Ohka with a Scorpion Deathlock (8:37).
5. Last Man Standing Match: Shigehiro Irie defeated Seiya Morohashi with a Headbutt (16:36).

Shuji Ishikawa was struck with rubella in the lead up to the show and forced to miss the event, cancelling his DDT Extreme Title defence against Shigehiro Irie. Big Rude offered to lead Union by example and take Shuji’s place. He was so determined to take the match he decided to drop the Big Rude gimmick and wrestle as Seiya Morohashi instead. Despite his good intentions, Morohashi could not defeat Irie in the Last Man Standing Match. He got close thanks to the use of a chair several times but eventually Irie flattened him with the Vertical Drop Back Flip. Irie then headbutted Morohashi into a bloody pulp until he could no longer stand.

Naomi Susan addressed everyone after the show. She thanked the roster for fighting their best and working together in Union, even with Ishikawa’s absence. She said Union’s next show will take place on 12th August. Hiroshi Fukuda suggested that the main event should be him versus Ric Flair. Seiya Morohashi then took the mic and gave a toast to Union.

With Big Rude out of the semi-main event, the Hardcore Tag Team match was turned into a Hardcore Triple Threat. Isami Kodaka defeated Ken Ohka & Kengo Ohka when he submitted Ken with a Scorpion Deathlock.

The songs used in the Rock ‘N’ Roll Death Match were “Kuroku Nuritsubuse” by Eikichi Yazawa, “Love Revolution 21” by Morning Musume, “Chai Maxx” by Momoiro Clover Z, the Lambada and “Memory Of Love” by Shigeru Matsuzaki. Hiroshi Fukuda tried to dance with every wrestler during the musical moments, even his opponents. When Rumi Kazama asked him why he did this, Fukuda said “I just want to get along with everyone.” Fukuda wants to be friends with many wrestlers from many organisations. Kazama wasn’t happy and she ditched him. This made Fukuda upset and he ran away from ringside crying.

Cherry came out wearing bunny ears and asked the crowd who was the cuter looking bunny, her or Rabbit Miu? Cherry was booed while Miu got cheered. During the match, Cherry tried to force Miu to have her first drink of wine but it was knocked away. After Cherry won the match, she asked Miu if she was a good rabbit and offered a handshake. Miu declined and walked off.

Goro Jr. used Lancashire style wrestling to win his match against Taichi Kazato. Well, at least that is what he claims.

There was said to be a very long line of people waiting to take photos with Naomi Susan, Cherry and Mio Shirai during intermission.

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Kota Ibushi defeated Low Ki (c) with the Phoenix Splash (19:30).
*Low Ki fails in V2. Kota Ibushi becomes the 64th IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion!

Kota Ibushi returned to New Japan today to challenge Low Ki for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship, the title he had to vacate back in September 2011 after a shoulder injury. With Kenny Omega, Daisuke Sasaki and Michael Nakazawa in his corner, Ibushi fought tooth and nail with Low Ki. The champ dodged Ibushi’s Quebrada outside the ring and later applied an upside down Dragon Sleeper hanging from the top rope. Ibushi recovered and hit the Quebrada a second time. Feet were flying from both wrestlers as their kick heavy offence came into play. Low Ki avoided the Sit Down Last Ride and tried to finish the match with the Phoenix Splash. But Ibushi rolled out of the way and struck Low Ki with the Cartwheel Overhead Kick. Ibushi landed his own Phoenix Splash to pin Low Ki and win the IWGP Jr. Title for the second time. Afterwards, KUSHIDA came out to challenge the new champion.

The big victory continues Ibushi’s path of success since returning from injury. His next big challenge is Kenny Omega at the DDT 15th Anniversary Show in Budokan Hall.

Togi Makabe from New Japan will come in to help his college buddy HARASHIMA take on Shuji Ishikawa and Ryuji Ito.

The/An Invisible Man will wrestle in DDT for the first time since Arnold Skeskejanaker graced the squared circle back in September 2008. His sudden appearance at yesterday’s show was done to challenge Danshoku Dino to a match at Budokan Hall.

The DDT website does not list KUDO & Makoto Oishi Vs MIKAMI & Tatsumi Fujinami as a KO-D Tag Team Title match, so the belts may not be on the line.

The soccer match has the Monster Army split in half on opposite sides. Yasu Urano, Antonio Honda & Yuji Hino will be part of the Crying Wolf team while Masa Takanashi, Daisuke SasakiHoshitango will be on The Familia team. Also on that squad are Tetsuya Endo and Ice Ribbon’s Tsukasa Fujimoto. Fujimoto is an active football player outside of wrestling but this game will be like nothing she’s seen before.

If the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title happens to be back in Japan in time for the event (it is currently held by Dick Togo in Bolivia), it will be defended in the Royal Rumble. Otherwise the winner will be given the opportunity to go overseas (which they have to pay for themselves) and win the belt back.

6. Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega defeated Danshoku Dino & YOSHIHIKO when Omega pinned YOSHIHIKO with the Two Storey Croyt’s Wrath (21:24).

The Golden Lovers teamed together to defeat their most infamous opponents just one month before Kota Ibushi and Kenny Omega will battle each other on the biggest stage in DDT history. Danshoku Dino and YOSHIHIKO knew how serious this match was. YOSHIHIKO wrestled the match dressed as Warsman, the character beloved by Kinnikuman fans for his ruthless abilities. However, the comnbined powers of Ibushi and Omega were too much and Omega defeated YOSHIHIKO with the Croyt’s Wrath to Dino with YOSHIHIKO on top of Dino’s shoulders. Afterwards, Omega thanked everyone involved for the great match. He said he wants to enjoy the rest of his matches before the 15th Anniversary Show in Budokan Hall because he knows his match with Ibushi there will be a war.

Celebrations were then interrupted when a challenge was thrown at Danshoku Dino. Unknown to everybody in attendence, the Invisible Man entered the ring and demanded to face Dino at Budokan Hall! Dino said he couldn’t see where he was, not even his butt. Nevertheless, Dino accepted the challenge. That’s right, Budokan Hall will see Danshoku Dino Vs The Invisible Man!

After losing to Shuji Ishikawa in a Hardcore Match, HARASHIMA announced his tag team partner to face Ishikawa & Ryuji Ito at the 15th Anniversary Show. HARASHIMA’s partner will be New Japan’s Unchained Gorilla, Togi Makabe!

Even though KUDO & Makoto Oishi won their third straight defence of the KO-D Tag Titles, it came at a price. Oishi had to be stretchered away from ringside after Keisuke Ishii gave him an RKO onto the floor outside the ring.

An update of the Bolivia Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title Tour was read out to the crowd. Dick Togo was the champion but he lost it to Bolivian wrestler AJAYU. AJAYU then lost it to Yuki Sato. Sato then lost it to a local child. Dick Togo then beat the child and is now currently champion.

Daichi Kakimoto announced that he will make his long awaited return to the ring at Budokan Hall! It has been four years since Kakimoto has wrestled when a back injury ended his career. Since then he still worked for DDT eventually becoming the man in charge of the Dropkick Bar. Kakimoto said he had been discouraged so many times but finally reached the point where he could wrestle again. He will compete in the Iron Man Battle Royal and he looks forward to giving someone a German Suplex. Kakimoto said that this is not his return but it will lead to the next step of his career.

Yoshiaki Fujiwara was also announced to compete at the Iron Man Battle Royal.

After losing to Tatsumi Fujinami in his return match, MIKAMI asked Fujinami if they could team together and challenge for the KO-D Tag Team Title in Budokan Hall. Fujinami accepted the offer.

The show began with a 12-Man Tag Team match that saw Tetsuya Endo pick up his first pinfall in his DDT career. Afterwards it was announced that the two teams competing in the Budokan Hall football match were named Crying Wolf and The Familia. Endo will be part of The Familia team.

Sanshiro Takagi invited Muscle Sakai into the ring at the end of the show. He told Sakai that his dark match at Budokan Hall will begin at 3:30 pm and will have a 30 minute time limit. The show itself begins at 4:00 pm so if Sakai’s match is still going on, it will be stopped immediately so the show can properly begin.

The DDT48 General Election returns for a third year beginning at the end of August. Voting begins on 26th August. and ends on 30th September. The results will be announced on 3rd October.

A bunch of Anywhere Pro Wrestling shows are being scheduled after the 15th Anniversary show. A match will be held in Ohama Beach, Kanagawa on 22nd August, the Campsite Pro Wrestling will take place on 9th September and DDT will appear at rock festival in Aomori on 22nd September.
