Nagoya is home to Yuki Arai’s idol group SKE48 so today’s visit to the area was all built around them. In the main event members of the group got to see Arai successfully defend the Princess Tag Team Titles with Saki Akai. They met the challenge of Toyo Mates head on, clashing the Big Boots from Yuki Kamifuku with their own. Toyo Mates’s new finishing move the Enryo was blocked, allowing the champions to hit Double Rookie Awards to Kamifuku. The match came down to Arai fighting with Mahiro Kiryu one on one with the champ getting the better of her. Arai pinned Kiryu with the Finally kick to mark her first defence of the titles.
Akai congratulated her tag partner after the match. Arai has taken direct falls in recent matches and felt like she was dragging Akai down. However today it was she who won the match for the team. Akai told her there are so many fans on her side that she will never be fighting on her own. Arai admitted backstage she was really scared of losing the belts in her first defence. Somehow she overcame her fear and has come out of today’s match feeling stronger. Akai calls her a reliable partner who should keep this confidence from now on. Their next title defence is expected to be against the British tag team The Uprising. They now have to wait for Rhia O’Reilly & Nightshade to come to Japan for that match to happen.
Members of SKE48 including Arai performed a mini concert of four songs in the middle of the show. The audience was allowed to cheer so it was the first time in two and a half years they got to sing in front of a vocal crowd (Miu Watanabe was among them). After they finished, the girls invited Maki Itoh into the ring and asked her to appear at their 14th Anniversary concert on 25th September. Itoh refused until the fans encouraged her to accept the offer.
