DDT Dramatic General Election 2015

August 15, 2015

The DDT Dramatic General Election is back for another year. The winner of the election gets a KO-D Openweight Title shot on the 28th November show at Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium #1. The runner-up gets a title shot on 25th October. If the KO-D Champion finishes first or second then he will get to choose his challenger for that date’s title bout. Voting begins on the 28th August Tavern Wrestling show at Shin-kiba 1st RING and ends at Union’s 4th October Korakuan show. The entire card for today’s show was created based on the results of the DDT Dramatic General Election. In the main event HARASHIMA defended the KO-D Openweight Title against the runner up of the election Isami Kodaka. The winner Kota Ibushi gets his title shot in Saitama Super Arena next February. The two were involved in several matches together this year including the main event of Sumo Hall but they never faced each other one on one until today. HARASHIMA once and for all came out on top and told Kodaka the match was fun. Amon Tsurumi came out and declared an immediate Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament to determine the No. 1 Contender for 30th November. Soma Takao beat Yasu Urano in the final and told HARASHIMA afterwards that the General Election wasn’t the end of the tension, it is just the beginning. HARASHIMA said he isn’t nervous because Takao won a tournament based on luck and he’ll have to increase his ability much more if he wants to win.

Akito seems pretty pleased with his DDT Extreme Title run so far. He’s been happy with the rule choices he defends the title under and today was a Give Up only match against Antonio Honda. He thinks he is now making the Extreme Title accessible to both the junior and senior wrestlers of DDT to chase after.

Today was the final match of DDT’s resident charismatic Canadian, Kenny Omega. For six years, Kenny has done almost everything you could think of for the company. Now it is time for him to move on and advance his career over in New Japan. But first he had a Fall Count Anywhere match to compete in. Teaming with Kota Ibushi for what may be the final Golden Lovers match for a while (Ibushi now wrestles as Heavyweight in New Japan, Kenny is sticking with the Jr. Heavyweight division when he moves over), they took on Danshoku Dino & Konosuke Takeshita. Kenny received a golden reaction from the crowd in attendence and the entire ring was covered in streamers for his ring introduction. The match was interrupted near the end by Michael Nakazawa when he pulled Yukinori Matsui out of the ring during a pinfall. Michael said he didn’t want Kenny to leave and so couldn’t let the match finish. Ibushi knocked out Michael and the match continued. Tetsuya Endo then interrupted the match when he pulled Daisuke Kiso out of the ring. Endo also begged Kenny not to leave. Ibushi knocked out Endo and the match continued once more. Kenny was about to pin Dino again the lights went out and his music played and his music played prematurely. Out came Yoshihiko dressed as Kenny! Nakazawa said that even Kennyhiko didn’t want Kenny to leave and the doll suddenly got into a fight with Ibushi in what is probably the weirdest love triangle in wrestling since Perry Saturn, Terri Runnels and Moppy. When the match finally got back on track Kenny gave Takeshita the One-Winged Angel and then joined Ibushi on the top rope to do the Golden Shower onto Dino. After the match Kenny admitted that saying goodbye would not be suitable because he is not retiring. DDT will always be with him and he hopes everyone will continue to cheer for him in New Japan.

Before Yukio Sakaguchi Vs Super Sasadango Machine could begin, Sasadango held a PowerPoint presentation titled “Measuring The Tendency Of Martial Artists In Pro Wrestling”. Sasadango worked out that he has no advantages over Sakaguchi other than height and weight. Sakaguchi’s strength is his striking ability and his weakness is his lack of experience as a pro wrestler. Sasadango needed more research so he then called the University of Europe to look up if a father’s weaknesses can be inherited by his children. He somehow worked out that Seiji Sakaguchi was the weakest amongst his siblings, therefore Yukio must be weak too. To mark this discovery, Sasadango developed a new pinning move called the Kids Clutch Lehmann Shock. Applying it once would remove 35% of the victim’s hit points, applying it twice would reduce 75% and applying it three times would take away 105%. The match began and Sasadango did the move twice, both getting nearfalls. He did it a third time but Sakaguchi countered it into a Reverse Cross Armbreaker and forced Sasadango to submit.

Tetsuya Endo defeated Kazuki Hirata pretty quickly, countering the Viagra Driver into a roll up for the pin. Afterwards Endo threw out the challenge for T2Hide Vs Happy Motel for the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles. Hirata was about to accept and wanted the match to be in Shizuoka Kiramesse Numazu but his partners Sanshiro Takagi & Toru Owashi physically stopped him from saying it. Owashi called Hirata irresponsible for acting so rash, especially since they could hold the match at Korakuen Hall in front of a bigger audience. Hirata then slapped both Owashi and Takagi! He didn’t care how many people would see it or how small the venue is, he wants to show Happy Motel he isn’t a loser. The challenge was accepted and the title match will be in Shizuoka on 9th November.

DDT revealed some of its big matches for the rest of the year. The KO-D Openweight Title will be defended in Korakuen Hall on 30th November and 23rd December. Those are the final defences for the title until DDT goes to Saitama Super Arena next February. Big Japan powerhouse Daisuke Sekimoto will compete at the Saitama Super Arena show. The KO-D Tag Team Titles will be defended in Kawaguchi on 2nd November and then on the 30th November Korakuen show. Yasu Urano also announced that Kendo Kashin will wrestle at the Smile Squash produced event in Korakuen on 11th December.

The Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title may soon be vacated. Sanshiro Takagi noticed that the belt hasn’t been seen since “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2014” when popstar LiLiCo became the champion. Amon Tsurumi said that LiLiCo has a busy schedule so she has been unable to appear at any DDT show. Takagi then demanded that LiLiCo appears at Korakuen on 30th November otherwise she will be stripped of the title! Takagi also pointed out that the title is still active and it is possible she could lose it to somebody else until then.

Some new projects are on the way. There will be two DDT apps released on iPhone next month. DDT Nyokinyoki is a training game of some sort and DDT Camera lets you add DDT wrestlers to your pictures. The DDT Manga Project was also announced in collaboration with GANMA!, an online manga service. Sanshiro Takagi and Danshoku Dino will audition professional and amateur manga artsits for a serialized DDT manga.

URRC stands for Ultimate Reverse RIZAP Championship and is inspired by the RIZAP exercise program. The URRC was created by Yumehito Imanari to cheer on female wrestlers who are not confident in the ring. Imanari used Wikipedia to look up the weight and height of each joshi wrestler competing in the match. He then seperated each woman into a different weight class. Aoi Ishibashi (160cm/62kg) is a Welterweight, Manami Koda (152cm/62kg) is a Cruiserweight, Hamuko Hoshi (161cm/60kg) is a Middleweight and Kurumi (150cm/60kg) is a Heavyweight. How this is supposed to make them feel better, I don’t know.

Hong Kong International Police Man has suffered a neck injury and will not be able to wrestle on the show. He might not even appear at all because of it.

ddtelection-2014

The results of this year’s DDT Dramatic General Election was announced to a full Shinjuku FACE crowd of 520 fans. Samurai! TV cameras followed the briefcase as it made its journey towards Shinjuku. Smile Squash won the Unit Election, narrowly beating Shuten-dōji by 9 votes. Team Drift weren’t that far behind either. Nira Federation, the one man unit led by DJ Nira somehow got more votes than Nira did in the singles portion of the election.

Kota Ibushi wins the DDT Election for the second time and he is now guaranteed a KO-D Title shot at Saitama Super Arena next year. Ibushi felt happy that the fans are not sick of seeing him because of his dual contract with DDT and New Japan. When asked what he will do with the cash prize, Ibushi simply said “Yamanote Line Wrestling”. He wants to travel through an entire loop of the Yamanote Line and wrestle somebody at every stop. Sanshiro Takagi said afterwards he’ll talk to Japan Railway about it.

Isami Kodaka finished in 2nd place, losing out to Ibushi by just 4 votes! It was the closest result ever for the contest and a much needed one since most of them have been won by landslides. Despite that, Kodaka still gets a KO-D Title shot later this month and some cash as a reward. HARASHIMA finished 3rd and said he’s looking forward to the Kodaka match. Kodaka said the same but promises he will crush HARASHIMA.

Yukio Sakaguchi now wants to finish his career wrestling for DDT so he will now be affiliated with the company.

*Danshoku Dino fails in V3. Akito becomes the 30th DDT Extreme Champion!
7. KO-D Tag Team Titles: Konosuke Takeshita & Tetsuya Endo defeated Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega (c) when Takeshita pinned Omega with a Cross Arm German Suplex (25:13).
*The Golden Lovers fail in V7. Konosuke Takeshita & Tetsuya Endo becomes the 50th KO-D Tag Team Champions!

Three title changes were among the highlights from today’s show, the final day fans could vote in the DDT Dramatic General Election. In the main event Konosuke Takeshita & Tetsuya Endo scored a massive upset victory over the Golden Lovers to win the KO-D Tag Team Titles. For weeks the two young wrestlers were looked down upon by Kenny Omega and even Kota Ibushi a little bit. With Antonio Honda cheering them on from their corner, Takeshita was able to hit the Touchdown on Omega followed by the Sky Twister Press from Endo for a nearfall. Endo went outside to block Ibushi while Takeshita used a Cross Arm German Suplex to finally pin Omega. After the match Kenny admitted defeat and said he leaves the future of DDT to the new champions. Takeshita & Endo thanked the fans for their support and said they will continue to work up to the top.

The DDT Extreme Title changed hands in the semi-main event. Akito beat Danshoku Dino in a Nobody Knows Rules match. The rules were convoluted to say the least. One count pinfalls could end the match, speaking English was banned, complaining about feeling pain was banned, rope breaks were banned, trainees acted as lumberjacks outside the ring and 3 count pinfalls were awarded for both kissing and submitting opponents. Daisuke Kiso needed to have the rules written down just to figure out what was going on. Akito hit the Kinniku Buster on Dino and then he kissed him. Akito then said it was a dream come true for him to face Danshoku Dino in a title match at Korakuen Hall. He was glad to have met him. Kiso recognised that as a confession of love and awarded Akito the match and the Extreme Title!

Finishing off the trio of title changes, the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Championship now belongs to T2Hide! The match was all about Kazuki Hirata and his Magnum HIRATA antics. He had Shun Miyatake (Trainee) and Hiroshi Fukuda join him dressed as women for his dancing entrance. Shigehiro Irie came close to pinning Hirata several times but his Beast Bomber was countered into a Cradle for the upset. Most surprised of all was Hirata himself. He said he works hard and takes wrestling seriously. Then he started dancing again.

DDT announced a new project dedicated to their new trainees. DDT New Attitude will produce its first show in Kitizawa on 28th November. Shunma Katsumata, Shun Miyatake (Trainee) and Union rookie Tomoya Kawamura join 4 new trainees for the event. In Miyatake’s case it will be recognised as his official debut match. The DNA trainees so far have only been identified as Nakatsu, Umeda, Iwasaki and Higuchi. Nakatsu is from Kyoto and has participated in “underground mixed martial arts”. Umeda is a kickboxer from Kumamoto. Iwasaki is from Sapporo and has trained under Kenichi Yamamoto. Higuchi is a sumo wrestler from Hokkaido.

DJ Nira & Super Sasadango Machine came up with the perfect plan to defeat HARASHIMA. They stole his contact lenses! Nira even swallowed them to make sure HARASHIMA will never get them back. With blurred vision, HARASHIMA was ineffective for a lot of the match. Sasadango stripped Yasu Urano of his shirt and bandana and put them on himself to trick HARASHIMA into thinking he was Urano. HARASHIMA then hit the real Urano with the Somato. Sasadango gave Urano several Lehman Shocks but HARASHIMA came to the rescue by wearing Amon Tsurumi’s glasses. He hit Sasadango with the Somato and Urano got the pin.

An update was given for DDT’s “Wrestling Cannonball” movie that will soon be in production. If I have the translation right the movie will follow three different teams driving to different locations and having matches against local wrestlers. Team A consists of Minoru Suzuki, Sanshiro Takagi & Jun Kasai with Muscle Sakai as their cameraman. Team B is KUDO, Yukio Sakaguchi & Masa Takanashi. Team C is Danshoku Dino, HARASHIMA & Kota Ibushi with Michael Nakazawa accompanying them.

DDT Dramatic General Election 2014 Rules

September 1, 2014

DDT has posted the rules for this year’s Dramatic General Election, which begun over the weekend. Even though many units have been formed for the Election, the votes are for the wrestlers themselves. Voting ballots are given to every spectator who attend DDT or Union shows during the month of September. Extra ballots are given for every 3,000 yen spent on merchandise at the shows and from DDT’s online store. Voting ends on 28th September and the results will be announced in Shinjuku FACE on 1st October.

At the end of the Election, the top 20 wrestlers with the most votes will all compete at Korakuen Hall on 26th October. Wrestlers ranked 21 to 24 will compete in a Dark Match. Normally the No. 1 ranked wrestler gets a cash prize and a KO-D Openweight Title match but this year a similar prize will also go to the runner up. The runner up gets a 300,000 yen prize and as a KO-D Title shot at the 26/10 Korakuen event. However, the overall winner gets a million yen and a KO-D Title shot at next year’s Saitama Super Arena show! If the champion (currently HARASHIMA) is in either spot he will get to choose his opponent for the respective show. Also the winner’s unit will get performance rights at Korakuen Hall, which I think means they get to produce their own event in the building at some point in the future.

DDT Dramatic General Election 2014

August 10, 2014

The DDT Election is back again but this time things are different. The DDT48 General Election is no more and in its place is the DDT Dramatic General Election. The single candidate format is gone and in its place is a Unit Election. There are still 48 wrestlers participating but they will now be seperated into units and teams. The election begins on 31st August and ends on 28th September. No details have been given yet for the contest rules but it is safe to assume it will build up to a Korakuen Hall show later in the year with the card only featuring wrestlers from the highest ranked units. Several groups have already been formed alongside the regular stables. The units so far are:

Smile Squash
HARASHIMA, Yasu Urano & Akito

Shuten-dōji
KUDO, Yukio Sakaguchi & Masa Takanashi

3. Jun Kasai defeated DJ Nira with the Pearl Harbour Splash (7:11).
4. Yasu Urano defeated MIKAMI with a School Boy Crush (11:59).
5. Rock ‘N’ Roll Death Match: A.YAZAWA defeated Sanshiro Takagi, Makoto Oishi and Kazuki Hirata when YAZAWA pinned Hirata with the Upstart Kick (13:21).
6. Yukio Sakaguchi & Masa Takanashi defeated Keisuke Ishii & Soma Takao when Takanashi pinned Takao with the Takatonic (11:50).
7. Beer Garden Specialty! 6-Man Lottery Tag Match: KUDO, Kenny Omega & Shigehiro Irie defeated Danshoku Dino, Konosuke Takeshita & HARASHIMA when Omega pinned Dino with the One-Winged Angel (15:59).

A lottery was held to determine the two teams in the main event. We wound up getting KUDO, Kenny Omega & Shigehiro Irie Vs Danshoku Dino, Konosuke Takeshita & HARASHIMA. The match ventured back and forth between serious and nonsense. HARASHIMA and Omega squared off in a 2/3rd preview of the “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2014” main event. Meanwhile Irie and Dino wrestled each other while wearing stockings over their heads. The finish came when Dino Hip Thrusted Omega into the corner and was preparing to deliver the Danshoku Driver. Omega suddenly spat beer in Dino’s face and knocked him down with the Hadouken. Irie did a Brainbuster, KUDO delivered the Diving Double Knee Drop and Omega finished it with the One-Winged Angel to pin Dino.

Shuten-dōji got a win over Team Drift in their final skirmish before their KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Title shot at Sumo Hall. Soma Takao taunted Yukio Sakaguchi & Masa Takanashi by spitting alcohol at them throughout the match. Shuten-dōji got their revenge when Takao had Takanashi in position for the Gin And Tonic. Sakaguchi punched Takao in the gut and Takanashi was able to counter the finisher into the Takatonic for the win.

The Rock ‘N’ Roll Death Match forced wrestlers to either dance or drink depending on what song was being played. When “Kuroku Nuritsubuse” by Eikichi Yazawa was used, everyone had to dance. When “Nippon Zenkoku Sakenomi Ondo” was used, everyone had to find beer and drink it.

Yasu Urano told the audience that this year’s Beer Garden Week was a great success. He called DDT a great organisation with jam-packed dreams. Urano then went on to beat MIKAMI in a match. MIKAMI afterwards noted that he lost again but will not give up wrestling. He said his dream was to be in DDT when they first ran Sumo Hall. When that was achieved he now had one goal left and that was to keep wrestling no matter what age he is. MIKAMI promised to show a new side of himself at Sumo Hall on 17/8.

Jun Kasai also wore stockings over his head during his match with DJ Nira. After the match Nira announced the name of his one man unit for the DDT Dramatic General Election. His unit is called the Yasu Urano Federation. Since Yasu Urano is already part of a team, Tsurumi Amon corrected it to the Nira Federation. Nira thinks it is a nice idea for him to be the only member of his team.

Tomomitsu Matsunaga is beginning to get into his new title of DDT Sumo Yokozuna. He was using more shoulder blocks and pushing around opponents in his match. He also invited Gota Ihashi to join himself and Michael Nakazawa for the General Election, pointing out that the Golden Storm Riders left him out of their group for the contest. Daisuke Sasaki denied the accusation and even admitted he now likes Ihashi a little bit. Ihashi said he liked being in the Golden Storm Riders but then gave Sasaki a German Suplex. He wants to be the best but felt he was being buried when he was with the Storm Riders. He will now get to show his true ability with Matsunaga & Nakazawa! Their new unit is called Leaders Thinking and they are the “Darkness Heroes who do not get the spotlight everyday!”

A 4 man tournament was announced to determine the next KO-D Openweight Title challenger. Keisuke Ishii, Akito, Konosuke Takeshita and Tetsuya Endo will take part. The wrestlers were chosen because they are all in their 20s or younger. The semi finals take place in Kasukabe on 24th August and the final is in Shinjuku on 31st August. The winner gets his title shot in Osaka on 13th September.

The KO-D Tag Team Titles will next be defended on the 24/8 Kasukabe show.

DDT will be releasing their own Kewpie dolls of Kota Ibushi, HARASHIMA and Danshoku Dino.

Next stop Sumo Hall!

1. Keisuke Ishii, Shigehiro Irie & Soma Takao defeated KUDO, Yukio Sakaguchi & Hoshitango when Ishii pinned Hoshitango with a Small Package (11:01).
2. Akito defeated Makoto Oishi by Referee Stoppage with the Wedding Clutch (7:52).
3. Beer Garden Specialty – Drunkers High: Saki Akai & Shunma Katsumata Vs Masa Takanashi & DJ Nira ended in a No Contest (12:34).
4. Michael Nakazawa, MIKAMI & Tomomitsu Matsunaga defeated Sanshiro Takagi, Toru Owashi & Kazuki Hirata when Nakazawa submitted Hirata with the HVS (8:49).
5. Enter Sandman Falls Count Anywhere 3 Way Match: Super Sasadango Machine defeated Danshoku Dino and Antonio Honda when Machine pinned Dino with the Vertical Drop Lehman Shock (12:52).
6. New Year’s Eve Revenge!?: Konosuke Takeshita defeated Tetsuya Endo with a High Angle German Suplex (15:58).
7. Kenny Omega & Daisuke Sasaki defeated HARASHIMA & Yasu Urano when Sasaki pinned Urano after the Freedom Call (18:34).

Kenny Omega was on the winning side of the main event with Daisuke Sasaki. Omega told HARASHIMA that it was a good warm up for Sumo Hall but noted the absence of Isami Kodama. He then told the crowd that his first appearance for DDT was during Beer Garden week and some of his favourite memories are from the annual event.

DDT’s two new generation stars Konosuke Takeshita and Tetsuya Endo got to have their rematch from “NEVER MIND 2013” last December. The two Happy Motel members went full blast but like last time, Takeshita wound up on top. Takeshita was happy to show everyone how much he and Endo have grown since then. Endo thinks he has grown stronger and has more stamina. He is still young and will evolve more and more in the ring while having fun too.

If for some reason anybody in the audience was still feeling nostalgic for ECW, they got their fill with the Enter Sandman Falls Count Anywhere match. Danshoku Dino, Super Sasadango Machine and Antonio Honda all did The Sandman entrance and attacked each other with Singapore Canes and cans of beer. Sasadango eventually pinned Dino with the Vertical Drop Lehman Shock.

Michael Nakazawa’s hybrid training with Minoru Suzuki is beginning to pay off. He now has a new finishing move called the HVS, the Hybrid Venom Arm Sleeper. It’s a Sleeper Hold that is applied while Nakazawa smothers his opponent with his loose tights.

The rules of the Drunkers High Match was a wrestler had to drink a cup of sake everytime a pin attempt failed or a submission hold reached a rope break. Masa Takanashi and DJ Nira were already a little tipsy before the match even began. They and their opponents Shunma Katsumata & Saki Akai would go on to get hammered, toasting each other after every pin attempt and filling their cups over and over. Referee Daisuke Kiso even joined in and was accidentally knocked down by a Diving Cross Body from Akai who was too drunk to aim properly. Kiso kept getting attacked by everyone trying to stop the pinfalls and he demanded the match end as a No Contest. Akai gave him a Big Boot and was then joined by in the ring by KUDO & Yukio Sakaguchi for more rounds of sake.

The show ended with Kazuki Hirata dancing alone in the ring.

New information about the DDT Dramatic General Election was revealed at the start of the show. There will be 48 wrestlers involved but they will all be competing as part of their unit. The units announced so far are:

Smile Squash (HARASHIMA, Yasu Urano & Akito)
Shuten-dōji (KUDO, Yukio Sakaguchi & Masa Takanashi)
Team Dream Futures (Keisuke Ishii, Shigehiro Irie & Soma Takao)
Golden Storm Riders (Kota Ibushi, Kenny Omega & Daisuke Sasaki)
Happy Motel (Antonio Honda, Konosuke Takeshita & Tetsuya Endo)
T2Hide (Sanshiro Takagi, Toru Owashi & Kazuki Hirata)
Otoko-Kata-Shinki (Danshoku Dino, Makoto Oishi & Shunma Katsumata)

Sanshiro Takagi wanted to name his team T2P because his and Toru Owashi’s first name begin with T and Kazuki Hirata begins with P. Hirata said that wasn’t true so Owashi tried to rename him Pira Hirata. Takagi eventually decided on naming his team T2Hide and then demanded they wrestle in a hexagonal shaped ring. Michael Nakazawa & Tomomitsu Matsunaga asked MIKAMI to join their unit but he rejected them and said he’d rather team with Gorgeous Matsuno because of the two of them go back a long way to DDT’s early days.
