*Jushin Liger fails in V2. Kenny Omega becomes the 26th Champion!

Kenny Omega had an eventful weekend by taking part in New Japan’s tour of the United States of America. It began with a loss to Satoshi Kojima in New Jersey but Omega regained some momentum by defeating Josh Daniels the next night in New York. The big result for Kenny took place on Night 3 at the Asylum Arena in Philadelphia. There he defeated Jushin Liger to win the JAPW Light Heavyweight Title in what is a major boost heading into the Best Of The Super Jrs.

Meanwhile back in Japan, some DDT talent got involved at another New Japan show. In a BOSJ preview, Kota Ibushi teamed with KUSHIDA to defeat TAKA Michinoku & Taichi. Ibushi picked up the pinfall when he hit the Firebird Splash on Taichi, the same move he used to win most of his matches during last year’s tournament. Shigehiro Irie & Keisuke Ishii were also on the show but they lost to Tomoaki Honma & Tsuyoshi Kikuchi.

Best Of The Golden Loving Super Jrs, DDT In K-DOJO

April 23, 2011

Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega have been chosen to compete in this year’s Best Of The Super Jr tournament over in New Japan. Ibushi reached the final of last year’s tournament. He lost to Prince Devitt in a dramatic finale that saw Ibushi suffer a dislocated shoulder, an injury that has constantly plagued him ever since. Kenny finished fourth in his group but left a strong impression in his field, holding wins over Koji Kanemoto and Ryusuke Taguchi. Both of the Golden Lovers will be in seperate groups again when the tour begin on 26th May with the final happening on 10th June. Ibushi will be joined in his group by Daisuke Sasaki, who went through the NEVER Road to the Super Jr. 2 Day Tournament to earn his spot here.

There will be some DDT talent involved in K-DOJO’s “Golden Week Special” series at the end of April. Yasu Urano is a regular for the promotion as he trained at K-DOJO. He is currently the UWA Middleweight Champion and has just defended the belt against Venom Ant (The Colony’s non-union, Japanese equivalent?) on today’s show. He will now defend the belt against a mystery opponent on 1st May. DDT presents their version of the Mega Powers as Kota Ibushi & YOSHIHIKO team together to go after the WEW Hardcore Tag Team Title currently held by Kengo Mashimo & Ryuichi Sekine. Hikaru Sato will also appear on the tour with his SEX-MEN teammate Munenori Sawa as they take on HIROKI & Kengo Mashimo for the STRONGEST-K Tag Team Titles. Last but not least, Dick Togo will be in involved in two matches, the most important of them being the final match Kaientai*DX will have together before Togo’s retirement.

Finally, is love in the air for Kota Ibushi? It is according to a young and brash joshi hopeful named Yoshiko (No, not YOSHIHIKO). The 17 year old STARDOM wrestler apparently let slip that she wants to tie the knot with the shy Independent Genius. Not only that but she already has the date picked out: 24th July. That’s the same date as the DDT Sumo Hall show aswell as STARDOM’s first Korakuen Hall event. Is this just the hyper imagination of a lovesick teenager or will Kota take up the role of Prince Charming and sweep Yoshiko off her feet? I don’t know what Kenny will think of this. Kota & Yoshiko sitting in a tree…

Union’s hopes of getting involved in the Best Of The Super Juniors tour is not looking good. Both of their homegrown talent crashed out in the first round, Ken Ohka losing to TKG48 member Tsuyoshi Kikuchi and Shinichiro Tominaga losing to Daisuke Sasaki. DDT faired a little better with Sasaki and Keisuke Ishii both going through to the next round. Kazuki Hirata was the only DDT rep who failed to get through, losing to Madoka. The tournament will finish on NEVER.7, taking place tomorrow.

JAPW Light Heavyweight Title: Jushin Thunder Liger (c) Vs Kenny Omega

Kenny Omega has a big role to play when New Japan tours the United States. Back in America, Kenny spent a good part of his career in Jersey All Pro Wrestling. One of his most recent matches in the promotion was a 6-way Elimination match for the JAPW Light Heavyweight Title. He was knocked out of the match by the eventual winner, one Jushin Lyger. Now that Lyger is back in America for New Japan’s series of shows in the country, Kenny will challenge Lyger for the title one-on-one.

Hikaru Sato is getting ready to enter another tournament. This time he is going back to All Japan as a last minute entry for the AJPW Jr. Tag League. His partner? Kikutaro! Is this pairing strong enough to defeat the likes of Kaz Hayashi & KAI, Shuji Kondo & Hiroshi Yamato or Koji Kanemoto & Minoru? Did this year’s Wrestlemania have an exciting main event?

And The Award Goes To…

January 26, 2011

The 2010 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards were revealed today with the Golden Lovers having a few mentions here and there. Kota Ibushi won the “Best Flying Wrestler” award for the second year in a row as well as finishing fifth for “Best Wrestling Maneuver”. Kenny Omega got an honorable mention for the “Most Improved” award. Together, the Golden Lovers ranked 7th for “Tag Team Of The Year”. The Best Of The Super Juniors final between Ibushi and Prince Devitt aswell as the Golden Lovers’ IWGP Jr. Tag Team Championship win over Apollo 55 in October also got honorable mentions for “Worked Match Of The Year”.

DDT got an honorable mention for “Promotion Of The Year”. Sanshiro Takagi himself got a look in too, finishing second place for “Promoter Of The Year” losing to Dana White for the second year in a row. However, if you see the glass as half full that means Takagi is the best pro wrestling promoter for two years in a row. 🙂

Add these accomplishments to the Golden Lovers winning “Best Tag Team” and “Best Match” in the Weekly Pro-Wrestling awards as well as “Match Of The Year” in the Tokyo Sports awards and you have a heck of a year for the Golden Lovers. Here’s looking forward to seeing what else they and DDT can accomplish in 2011.

*Golden Lovers fail in V3. Apollo 55 become the 28th Champions.

A bad day of results for DDT in New Japan. After a period of dominating their rivals in both promotions, Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega lost the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Titles to the previous champions Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi in the main event.

Meanwhile, Danshoku Dino found a kindred spirit in the form of CMLL luchador Máximo. Unfortunately they fell to Jado & Gedo in the opener, with Jado getting revenge for his Super J Cup 1st Round loss to Dino back in 2009.

Kenny In Ice Ribbon, Syuri You Can’t Be Serious

January 21, 2011

Normally I would start with the Kenny Omega news but this time the top post priority goes towards another cute Joshi girl I fancy (there’s not a lot of them, I swear!*).

UNION “FORTUNE DEMONS”, 03/02/2011

2. Shinichiro Tominaga Vs Tigers Mask
3. Cherry & Syuri Vs Seiya Morohashi & Hiro Tsumaki

5. TKG48 Vs Revolutionary Armed Forces: Sanshiro Takagi, Atsushi Aoki & Shigehiro Irie Vs Yoshiaki Yago, Kengo Mashimo & Madoka
6. Shuji Ishikawa Vs Tsuyoshi Kikuchi

The relationship between Union and SMASH continues with Tajiri’s promotion sending over their brightest prospect from their women’s division. Syuri began her wrestling career in 2008 as KG the Karate Girl in HUSTLE. When the promotion folded, Syuri had a few Shoot Boxing bouts for the Jewels MMA company before being one of the first names announced to join SMASH. Since its first show Syuri has been the focus for SMASH’s Joshi division. On Union’s 3rd February show, Syuri will be teaming with Union’s queen bee Cherry to take on Seiya Morohashi and Hiro Tsumaki. A little worried about this one to be honest. Seiya’s mental state has been a bit iffy ever since that time he suffered a decapitation during a Muscle House show…

Also announced was a Union Vs New Beijing Tag Team bout between Isami Kodaka & Yano K Data against Choun-Shiryu & Cao Zhang. With Princess Makoto yet to have a match in Union, maybe she will stick her nose in Cherry and Shuri’s business on the night. Meanwhile Isami has mentioned he would like to defend the DDT Extreme Championship against Sanshiro Takagi in a deathmatch sometime in the future.

*Alright, alright, alright. Kana, Syuri, Makoto and Ayumi Kurihara. There, are you happy?

Sato & Sawa’s German Adventure, Kenny Goes To Ice Ribbon

January 17, 2011

Both Hikaru Sato and Munenori Sawa were in Germany during the weekend for two Westside Xtreme Wrestling shows. On the same night Daisuke Sekimoto became the new wXw Unified World Champion, Sato & Sawa teamed up to challenge Bad Bones & Carnage for the wXw World Tag Team Titles. The BattlArtsPancrase pair worked well together but failed to win the belts from the duo known as the Oberhausen Terror Corps.

The next night both Sato and Sawa competed in the second annual Ambition shoot style tournament. Both men got past the first round and faced each other in the semi-final where Sawa got the better of Sato. Unfortunately for Sawa, he was defeated in the final.

Speaking of wXw, the company will be holding its major 16 Carat Gold tournament in March. Several Japanese talent will be competing both in tournament and seperate matches. So far the puro scene is represented by Yoshihito Sasaki, Kotaro Suzuki and Go Shiozaki, with Sekimoto taking part in non-tournament bouts. There are still some announcements left to make, so if any DDT related talent get announced I will post it here.

Omega Wins Snowball Fight

January 17, 2011

Sportiva Entertainment “SPORTIVA ARENA WARS”, 16/01/2011
Sportiva Arena

Kenny Omega defeated Akito with the Croyt’s Wrath (15:02).

While DDT was over in Nagoya they brought in a few wrestlers from Sportiva Entertainment to take part in their event. Sportiva returned the favour by inviting Kenny Omega over to have a match against Akito. Well, the winter weather outside was too tempting for Omega and Akito and they fought out of the ring and left the arena to continue their match outside in the snow. Snowballs were thrown but a 20 count was still in place so the two had to return to the ring. Akito came close to beating Omega with an Anklelock and a Gutwrench Power Bomb but Omega tapped those buttons fast to break out of his groggy state. One Hadouken and Croyt’s Wrath later, Omega had his hand raised as the winner. Omega told Akito to “Please keep going, please keep running” and some day he too could become a champion.

Golden Lovers & Dino Return To NJPW

January 5, 2011

NJPW/CMLL “NJPW PRESENTS CMLL FANTASTICA MANIA 2011”, 1/23/11
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. Danshoku Dino & Maximo Vs Jado & Gedo
6. Double Main Event II – IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title: Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega (c) Vs Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi

DDT will have three wrestlers sent over to New Japan for the company’s co-promoted shows with Mexico’s CMLL. Kota Ibushi, Kenny Omega and Danshoku Dino will appear on Night 2 of “FANTASTICA MANIA 2011” in Korakuen Hall.

Can the Golden Lovers make it three for three over Apollo 55? With the IWGP Jr. Tag Title victory taking place in New Japan and victory in the rematch over at DDT, Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega will face Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi for the belts one more time. Both teams are usually really over with the Korakuen fans, so expect a really hot crowd for this match.

The idea of Danshoku Dino and Maximo teaming together is not that odd now that I think of it. I mean, if Maximo can handle teaming with Mr. Niebla then hanging out with Dino should be no problem for the exotico. Plus Dino will be reunited with Jado, who he had a wonderful time with at the 2009 Super J Cup. Gedo might be pissed off with Dino for using his patented move the Gedo Clutch and renaming it the Gay-do Clutch. But then again Gedo is always pissed off, so never mind that.

DDT and CMLL do have a previous connection. The KO-D Tag Team Championship was originally created in CMLL where Takashi Sasaki & NOSAWA became the first champions. To this day DDT still includes “CMLL” in their title’s name even though they haven’t been defended in the Lucha Libre promotion ever since.
