Omega & Sato Vs All Japan, Ibushi Vs KUSHIDA

August 16, 2011

This September, Kenny Omega and Hikaru Sato are both crossing over to All Japan to compete in this year’s AJPW Jr. Heavyweight League. Omega has stated that he wants to win a singles title in Japan. Since his fellow Golden Lover is currently king of the New Japan Jr Heavyweight scene, Omega has set his sights on All Japan for his search of glory. Omega’s opposition in his group are the current AJPW Jr. Heavyweight Champion KAI, aswell as Kaz Hayashi, Minoru, BUSHI and BLACK BUSHI (who I assume is BUSHI’s non-union Canadian equivalent). Hikaru Sato returns to the tournament after a luke-warm win-loss record from last year. This time Sato’s opponents in his block are Shuji Kondo, Hiroshi Yamato, MAZADA, Jimmy Yang and New Japan’s Koji Kanemoto.

Now just five months after he joined New Japan full time, KUSHIDA gets his first shot at the belt.

The Golden Lovers returned to New Japan Pro Wrestling to battle with Apollo 55 once more over the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Titles. It was the fourth time these two teams faced each other with the belts on the line. This time Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi were victorious when Devitt pinned Kenny Omega with the Black Sunday double team finisher. Apollo 55 and The Golden Lovers both have two wins each in their series but surely it will be a long time until they wrestle each other again.

Now Ibushi will team up with Kenny Omega to battle Apollo 55 once more, this time with the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Titles at stake. That match will take place on 14th August at the final show of the G1 tour.

Kids Fight ~Haruka’s Pro-Wrestling Story Summer Vacation Chapter~: Haruka Vs Kenny Omega ended in a Time Limit Draw (3:00).

On the same day DDT held the “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2011” show, Kenny Omega made an earlier appearance for the new Stardom joshi promotion at Korakuen Hall. Omega was there to take on Stardom’s youngest wrestler, a nine year old girl named Haruka. Kenny tried to be a good sport before the match by offering a handshake, but Haruka kicked his hand away. The two fought to a 3 minute draw with the bell ringing right when Omega was about to use his Croyt’s Wrath finishing move. Afterwards Omega offered another handshake to the little girl but got a slap across the face instead. Haruka won over the crowd and Omega once again learned that Japanese children are violent little brats.

Another title match was announced for the 28/8 show. Danshoku Dino & Kota Ibushi will team up to challenge Masa Takanashi & Daisuke Sekimoto for the KO-D Tag Team Titles.

Sanshiro Takagi was in attendence scouting for wrestlers to join his TKG48. He announced that member No. 38 will be revealed at Union’s “BEER FIGHT 2011” event on 7th August.

Kenny Omega has declared war on All Japan! He has announced his new goal is to follow Kota Ibushi and win a Jr. Heavyweight Championship in Japan. Kenny is happy teaming with Kota Ibushi and Michael Nakazawa in DDT. Outside DDT, Kenny wants to go after the AJPW Jr. Heavyweight Title that is currently held by KAI.

Daisuke Sasaki brought a crystal ball into the ring during his Tag Team match. The mysterious crystal ball had a powerful effect on Posion Sawada JULIE, weakening him enough for Sasaki to defeat him. Sawada has challenged Sasaki to a match at the “BEER FIGHT 2011 ~ DDT DAY” show on 13th August.

The Campground Pro Wrestling show will return on 4th September. While last year’s show was supposed to be the last time DDT would go to Yamanashi Natureland Om, the event proves to popular to ignore.

Kenny Omega Interview Over At Dirty Dirty Sheets

The Dirty Dirty Sheets web page has a pretty good interview with Kenny Omega posted on their site. Find out what is the source behind Kenny’s power, how much he enjoys his time in PWG and JAPW, what makes him and Kota Ibushi so successful as a team, why he would be a good Joshi wrestler, how he rates his Hadouken and who he would like to face in the future.

7. KO-D Openweight Title: Shuji Ishikawa (c) defeated Takao Soma with the Splash Mountain (13:59).
*V2 for Shuji Ishikawa.

DDT now has their main event set for their biggest show of the year. Shuji Ishikawa successfully defended the KO-D Openweight Title not once, but twice on one of the final stops on the road to Sumo Hall. Ishikawa defeated both GENTARO and Takao Soma back-to-back to earn his first two title defences. Now he will face KUDO, who has been on a roll since winning the “King Of DDT”. At the end of the show, the DDT locker room joined KUDO in the ring and put him through a trial by fire to get him ready for Sumo Hall. One by one, the DDT wrestlers each gave KUDO one of their trademark moves in the hopes that they transfer their strength to him. However when Danshoku Dino was about to give KUDO the Danshoku Driver, Shuji Ishikawa booted him in the head and gave KUDO the Splash Mountain instead. Shuji yelled at KUDO and said that he will beat him at Sumo Hall.

The Shit Heart ♥ Foundation is going through some changes. Due to Takao Soma’s failure to capitalize his golden opportunity of beating a weakened Shuji Ishikawa and become KO-D Champion, Tomomitsu Matsunaga & Super Shit Machine took matters into their own hands and kicked Soma out of the group. Matsunaga then announced that the SHF has joined forces with the Susan Guard from Union. The new unit is now called the Susan Shit Heart Superstars!

The unlikely team of Kenny Omega & Michael Nakazawa surprised everyone by winning the KO-D Tag Team Championships! The TKG48 duo of Munenori Sawa & Shigehiro Irie only had the belts for 15 days until they lost it in their first defence. HARASHIMA & HERO! came out to challenge the new champs. Omega accepted and planned out a special show at Shin-Kiba 1st RING on the 24th June. At this event will be just one match, and that match will be Omega & Nakazawa Vs HARASHIMA & HERO! for the KO-D Tag Titles! Omega then told everyone that he sees Nakazawa’s true potential and he just wants to help his friend.

Only a few more days until Dick Togo calls an end to his illustrious career in Japan. He had his final match for DDT today, teaming with Antonio Honda to defeat Yasu Urano & Daisuke Sasaki. The day before, Togo showed up at the K-DOJO show at Korakuen Hall for one last Kaientai*DX reunion where he again won the match for his team with the deadly Diving Senton.

It was announced that Kota Ibushi will have his first defence of the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title against Prince Devitt on 27th August at Sumo Hall.

The final Assassin sent from Bob Sapp to fight Danshoku Dino was Canadian indy wrestler Sexxxy Eddy. Before the match began, Eddy told the crowd that he always has the most beautiful woman in the arena strip him of his clothes. So he brought out Emi Sakura and performed a striptease for her. Dino was able to overcome this last obstacle and is now qualified to fight Bob Sapp at Sumo Hall. That was not the end of the night for Sexxxy Eddy, however. He briefly won the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title from Masa Takanashi and then lost it to Keisuke Ishii.

The Special Dark Match between Gorgeous Matsuno and DJ Nira was interrupted by the announcement of DDT’s next “Anywhere Pro Wrestling” event taking place on 2nd July. The show is titled “Luggage Material Wrestling”. The match still went on while Tsurumi Amon was making the announcement and continued when he was finished. However, the match ran out of time just when DJ Nira hit the Rocket Punch on Matsuno.

Here is the card for Sumo Hall so far:

Kota Ibushi – Super Junior… Or Superior Junior?

1. Kenny Omega, Daisuke Sasaki & TJP defeated KUSHIDA, Mascara Dorada & Hiromu Takahashi when Omega pinned Takahashi with the Croyt’s Wrath (9:12).
3. Best of the Super Jr. – Semi Final: Kota Ibushi defeated Davey Richards with the Firebird Splash (11:17).
8. Best of the Super Jr. – Final: Kota Ibushi defeated Ryusuke Taguchi with the Phoenix Splash (20:22).

Kota Ibushi has claimed his (and possibly DDT’s) greatest achievement to date by becoming to first wrestler outside of New Japan to win the Best Of The Super Jr. tournament. Ibushi survived a rocky start to defeat such established names as Mascara Dorada, TAKA Michinoku, Gedo, The Great Sasuke, Jushin Liger and Davey Richards (Hey! Stop laughing down at the back!) so he could reach the final to face the man who defeated him on the very first night of the tour, Ryusuke Taguchi. The situation brought back memories of one year ago when deep into his grand final match against Prince Devitt, a Firebird Splash gone wrong seriously injured Ibushi’s shoulder and killed his chance at winning the tournament. Without any hesitations, Ibushi was able to use the Firebird Splash to win most of his matches in the group stages. But in the final, Ibushi went one better and pinned Taguchi in 20 minutes with the Phoenix Splash.

Ibushi was presented with the trophy by Milano Collection AT and he also received the winner’s cheque of ¥5 million. During his backstage interview, Ibushi said it is his dream to become the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion and he has challenged Prince Devitt to a IWGP Jr. Title match for 18/6 in Osaka. He was then joined by Kenny Omega, Daisuke Sasaki, Michael Nakazawa & Yukinori Matsui for a celebration. Michael brought along beer for a toast but Ibushi drank a can of cola instead. When asked about what he wants to spend his prize winnings on, Ibushi couldn’t think of anything. He was happy enough to win the trophy.

For Kenny Omega it was a case of so close, yet so far. After an explosive run that at Kenny’s peak saw him winning his first five matches, he then dropped falls to his remaining opponents Prince Devitt, Jado and Davey Richards who slipped through to the semi-finals at Kenny’s expense. He managed to grab a win back for his final match of the tour, a Six-Man opening tag match that also included Daisuke Sasaki.

8. Best of the Super Jr. – Block A: Prince Devitt [10] defeated Kenny Omega [10] with the Bloody Sunday (12:08).

Kenny Omega has been on fire in the Best Of The Super Jr tournament. Up until the most recent show he achieved a five match winning streak. His first defeat was to Prince Devitt, who now ties with Kenny on the top of Block A. As you can see in the pic above, Kenny used the “Anywhere Pro-Wrestling” style for which he is infamous for to battle Devitt with. Kenny’s remaining matches are against Jado and Davey Richards.

In Block B, Kota Ibushi has recovered from his early setbacks to reach second place, sharing the position with a couple of rivals. Ibushi has dusted off the Firebird Splash as his finisher of choice for the tournament*. Ibushi’s final two matches are vital for Block B as he takes on the current leader Great Sasuke and fellow 2nd placer Jushin Liger. Wins over both men will guarantee Ibushi of qualifying for the Semi-Final and could also prevent both Sasuke and Liger from advancing.

Daisuke Sasaki however can kiss goodbye his chances of advancing past the block stage. The best he can do now is play the role of spoiler for his last opponent, TAKA Michinoku.

*For the love of Takagi, don’t injure yourself with it again!

5. Best of the Super Jr. – Block B: Kota Ibushi [2] defeated Mascara Dorada [2] with a Firebird Splash (7:28).

Kenny Omega is carving through the competition, winning all three of his matches so far. He has now defeated Koji Kanemoto twice in BOSJ match and can now add Fujita “Jr.” Hayato to the list of wins over big names in the Jr. Heavyweight scene. Omega is currently tied in first place along with Prince Devitt and Tiger Mask. Omega’s next opponent is American wrestler TJP.

Kota Ibushi on the other hand is hoping he has gotten over his poor start to the tournament. He lost to KUSHIDA in a big upset on the 28/5 event but finally grabbed his first points by beating Mascara Dorada on today’s show. Ibushi’s next opponent is TAKA Michinoku. Both Ibushi and Omega had their day off on 29th May and will have matches for the rest of the tour.

Daisuke Sasaki is having a similar run to Ibushi. Only one win in four matches. His sole victory came over the veteran Gedo, so at least he’s gotten something out of the tour. Sasaki’s next opponent is The Great Sasuke.
