It wouldn’t be a New Year’s Eve puroresu indie show without a giant clusterfuck in the main event. The Ken Ohka Vs Ryuichi Sekine team challenge turned out to be a massive 74 person tag team match to close out the show. Ohka’s team won out in the end.

The Danshoku Dino Produce was weird. The match itself was a Royal Rumble match. But before it begun, a Samurai TV! assistant director (who oddly enough looked a lot like Tsurumi Amon) invited DDT President Sanshiro Takagi, K-DOJO founder TAKA Michinoku and Big Japan executive Eiji Tosaka down to the ring. The director challenged them not to laugh during the match. If anyone of them did laugh, either Michael Nakazawa or Tomomitsu Matsunaga would run down to the ring and spank them with a paddle. The director then called in DDT’s Kazuki Hirata and BJW’s Kazuki Hashimoto to try and make them laugh. Hashimoto was only able to make Hirata laugh, which caused him to get spanked with a paddle. That made Hashimoto laugh, which caused him to get spanked. The director said a joke and made TAKA laugh, so he got paddled too. Highlights (for a lack of a better word) from the match include Yuji Okabayashi refereeing the match while wearing a referee shirt with a midriff, Karate Brahman performing a song, Mio Shirai introducing herself as a lesbian, Atsushi Ohashi entering the match tied up in bondage rope, Kaji Tomato dancing with more and more wrestlers as they entered the match, (including CZW’s Sabian), Kaji Pot-au-feu (Ivan Markov) eliminating himself with a Tornado DDT, Okabayashi being unable to count above the number 6 and Takagi, TAKA and Tosaka getting constantly paddled for laughing at the nonsense directed at them.

Let’s have a look at the DDT and Union involvement here so far. Takao Soma and Akito will be among the pretty boys taking part in the opener. Hiroshi Fukuda then takes part in the young lion Six Man Tag. Danshoku Dino will produce some sort of competition that will no doubt disturb everyone in attendance. HARASHIMA follows that with a Six Man Tag Team Challenge bout. Poor Ken Ohka drew the short straw for his match, as he is involved in a Lighttube death match with some of Big Japan’s most violent wrestlers. Shuji Ishikawa teams up with Daisuke Sekimoto to form a brick wall of a tag team. Finally, the gauntlet will contain Daisuke Sasaki, Sanshiro Takagi, Antonio Honda, Masa Takanashi and Chou-un Shiryu, with possibly one or two more winning the last vacant spot reserved for a fan vote that will take place on an upcoming episode of Occupation Of The Indies.

The annual New Year’s Eve Pro Indie Wrestling event in Korakuen Hall will be extra special this year. FIGHTING Samurai TV!, the home of DDT Dramatic Fantasia, BJW Deathmatch Wars, Occupation Of The Indies and other programming dedicated to pretty much every single active Japanese wrestling company you can think of, will be celebrating its 15th Anniversary this year and the big New Year’s Eve event will be hosting the celebrations. Mita Sayoko and Carlos The Mexican Mole, the hosts of Occuptation Of The Indies, will be responsible for looking over the card.

One of the early stories set up for the show is a conflict building up between Ken Ohka from Union and Ryuichi Sekine from K-DOJO. It has led both men forming seperate teams to face each other in a big challenge (or series of challenges) at the show. Both Ohka and Sekine have been told to go look for wrestlers from all across the Japanese indie scene and get them to join their respective side. The captain of the winning team will be rewarded with a special segment dedicated to him on a future episode of Occupation Of The Indies.

Quite the hectic night for the Indy Wrestling scene as Big Japan, DDT, K-DOJO, Freedoms, Ice Ribbon and a Hell of a lot of other promotions (including Pro Wrestling NOAH!) joined together to bring in 2011 with style, energy and craziness.

Turns out puroresu’s version of The Ultimate Showdown Of Ultimate Destiny was won by WWE. FUNAKI was the final wrestler to enter the match with the only man left in the ring being DDT’s own Danshoku Dino. Naturally, Dino set his sights, his hands and his lips on Smackdown’s No. 1 Announcer. He was able to get a deep kiss on FUNAKI but just like Beth Phoenix and The Great Khali at the 2010 Royal Rumble, FUNAKI used the kiss to pull Dino over the ropes and both men fell out of the ring. Dino’s feet hit the ground first and FUNAKI was declared the winner after a brief moment of confusion.

Dino was the ironman of the match, entering in at Number 1 althouh he spent a lot of the match being intimate with Shinobu. Dino made it to the point where the last four wrestlers in the ring were himself, the Brahman Brothers and Ice Ribbon’s littlest joshi, Chii TomiyaBrahman Shu & Brahman Kei bullied Chii with the severed head of Toru Owashi (it was really just a decapitated pig’s head, a real one a that). Dino came to rescue Chii, only to give the poor girl the Danshoku Driver and eliminate her from the match. For shame, Dino.

The Battle Royal even had a title change. Hikaru Sato brought out the World Sato Championship belt with him to the ring. When JWP ace Kaori Yoneyama eliminated Sato from the match, a title change was declared and Yoneyama was handed the newly renamed World Yoneyama Championship belt for the achievement.

Kikutaro recorded both in ring and behind the scenes footage on his cellphone and uploaded it to his Ustream page, which you can find the link to below. The 19 O’Clock Pro-Wrestling dark match was also streamed live on the web and was shown on their own Ustream page.

New Year’s Eve Indy Celebration Card

November 21, 2010

DDT will be part of the big indy wrestling get together at Korakuen Hall for New Year’s Eve. Last year’s event was remembered for the 108-Man Battle Royal that begun in 2009 and ended in 2010 plus matches presented by each promotion involved. This time around there will be an inter-promotional, inter-gender one night tournament featuring Sanshiro TakagiTAKA Michinoku (K-Dojo), Great Kojika (Big Japan), Takashi Sasaki (Freedoms), Yuki Ishikawa (BattlArts), Guts Ishijima (GUTS World), Command Bolshoi (JWP) and Kana (Triple Tails). Every match in the tournament will have a three minute time limit so every contender will have to be on their toes from the second the bell rings.

The main event will be another large Battle Royal, this time a 30 Organisation Battle Royal. I guess this means there are only 30 participants involved with one wrestler representing each promotion, but you never know with this bunch running the show. Now would be a good time to brush up your knowledge on the Japanese indy scene over at the Puroresu Central website.

New Year’s Indy Party Announced, UNION In Big Japan, Cherry Picking

October 2, 2010

The indy collection of DDT, Big Japan, K-DOJO, FREEDOMS and Ice Ribbon will get together this New Year’s Eve for a major show at Korakuen Hall that will count down to 2011. If it is anything like last year, expect each promotion to present its own match and the main event to be a giant Royal Rumble. Can it be as big as last year’s 108 Man Battle Royal? We have to wait and see.

Shuji Ishikawa has the chance to bring home some gold to UNION. He will be at Big Japan to take on Ryuji Ito for the BJW Death Match Heavyweight Title and possibly strike a vengeful blow to BJW. Last year when Shuji Ishikawa was the K-OD Champion, he often defended it in UNION. Big Japan’s Daisuke Sekimoto beat Shuji in his own promotion to become champion and reign over DDT. Now Ishikawa can give Big Japan a taste of its own medicine and bring its top title home to UNION.

Speaking of Big Japan, DDT’s Yasu Urano and UNION’s Hiroo Tsumaki will be on their next Dainichi Dash event in Yokohama on 16th October. Tsumaki will team up with Ryuichi Kawakami to take on Yoshihito Sasaki & Shinobu. Urano will be in the main event against Yuji Okabayashi (or Sekimoto 2.0 as I sometimes refer to him as). This will keep Urano on his toes before he and Dick Togo enter the NTV Cup Jr. Heavyweight Tag League over in NOAH later this month.

Cherry is on the lookout for women with martial arts training who want to become pro wrestlers. She also now has her own Ustream page at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/cherrypafe55
