Golden Lovers Unlock Mega Man, Union Prepares For The New Year

November 8, 2010

Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega (and Micheal Nakazawa too) visited the Capcom office this week to do an interview for the Rockman Unity blog and take some pictures with Mega Man and Servbot. Kenny is known to be quite the video game fanatic and it shows in his work in the ring. His connection to Mega Man is the remix of the Dr. Wily stage music he uses for his entrance music. He also has the “Flash Man Time Stopper” move where he yells “Stop!” to freeze his opponent and leave him vulnerable for an Enzuigiri. The interview also brings up Omega’s use of the Hadouken in matches.

I couldn’t figure out two of the names from the Battle Royal. One of the wrestlers was covered in blue bodypaint and his name is a reference to a character from an animated movie called “Record of Deathler’s War”. That’s all I know.

Golden Lovers Sign IWGP Title Match

November 5, 2010

The IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title match set for DDT on 14th November has been signed and made official. New Japan officials joined Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega at a river for the contract signing. The reason was Ibushi wanted to defend the titles on the riverfront. When that was denied, Omega suggested having the title defence take place inside NJPW HQ. That was denied too. The officials had the Golden Lovers sign the contract before they could suggest having the match take place in a field covered in snow. Can’t blame the champs for trying to be creative.

Both of the KO-D Tag Team Title belts went missing before the show. Danshoku Dino was convinced that MIKAMI & Tanomusaku Toba stole the belts and were keeping them hostage in order to get another title shot. This led to the main event being changed into an I Quit match where Dino could get the Suicide Boyz to confess to their crimes. He took advantage of the rules to interrogate his opponents in the usual Dino fashion. However, when Dino found out MIKAMI & Toba were innocent he was blindsided by his own partners Antonio Honda & Daisuke Sasaki, causing the match to be thrown out. Honda & Sasaki revealed that they were the ones who stole the belts! DDT General Manager, Tsurumi Amon was quick to react and made a KO-D Tag Title match for the Osaka show on the 14th. It will be the Butt Samurai (yes, that is the team name for Dino & Shiro Koshinaka) versus Antonio Honda & Daisuke Sasaki for the belts!

Speaking of belts, a large group of them changed hands during the show. The Shit Heart ♥ Foundation has finally found success and all it took was for them to beat up two kids and an old man defeat one of the most dominating trios in the history of professional wrestling. The Great Kojika, Mr. #6 & Riho were the fan favourites while the SHF, Michael Nakazawa especially were booed throughout the match. Mr. #6 sacrificed himself to protect Riho from a Nakazawa Lotion Backwash Attack but in the end Tomimitsu Matsunaga put the Great Kojika down for the count with the Tommy Bomber Lariat. The SHF now have 9 physical belts added to their trophy cabinet and some space is left for a certain Openweight title that Hikaru Sato has set his sights on for Osaka.

New DDT Extreme Champion!

November 3, 2010

I can’t find much information about it (currently on a computer where translation sites are blocked) but Danshoku Dino lost the DDT Extreme Championship to South Korean wrestler Kim Nun Pun at a show in Ulsun, South Korea on 28th October. Kim Nun Pun has become a regular gaijin for the SMASH promotion and even showed up at SMASH.9 with the belt two days later. With a relationship now forming between DDT/Union and SMASH, we may see the Extreme Title be defended in Tajiri’s promotion at some point in the future.

Yoshiaki Yago News

November 1, 2010

It’s been a while since we heard from Yoshiaki Yago, wrestler, guitarist, gym owner and frequent locker victim. Ever since his evil plan to destroy Sumo Hall was thwarted by Michael Nakazawa, Yago stepped away from the ring and spent some quality time with his guitar. He came out of the break with renewed energy and a brand new song called “Join.The.Revolution“. Yago then appeared at a SMASH press conference on October 13th to announce the Yoshiaki Yago Cup with the winner being allowed to use “Join.The.Revolution” as his new theme song. Hajime Ohara won what I guess was the only match in the tournament but he had no interest in the prize and rejected it. So instead, “Join.The.Revolution” was chosen to be the official theme song for the SMASH.10 show at JCB Hall. The first performance of Yago’s new song will take place on the 3rd November inbetween the DDT/UNION double header at Shin-Kiba 1st RING.
