2b. MIKAMI defeated DJ Nira with the Volcanic Bomb (6:03).
3. Takao Soma & Tomomitsu Matsunaga defeated HARASHIMA & Michael Nakazawa when Soma pinned Nakazawa with the Diving Guillotine Drop (10:40).
4. KUDO & Makoto Oishi defeated Antonio Honda & Daisuke Sasaki when KUDO pinned Honda with the Buzzsaw Kick (10:55).
5. The Great Sasuke & Kesen Numajiro defeated Sanshiro Takagi & Danshoku Dino when Sasuke pinned Takagi with the Danshoku Driver (15:46).
6. Dick Togo, GENTARO & Yasu Urano defeated Kota Ibushi, Kenny Omega & Keisuke Ishii when Togo pinned Ishii with the Diving Senton (17:22).

Dick Togo gave his thanks to those in attendence. He told a story about the Odate Citizen Gymnasium being the building where he saw his first live wrestling event. He was very happy to perform there one last time before he retires.

A bouquet of flowers were given to The Great Sasuke before his match, but Danshoku Dino grabbed them off him and threw them to the floor in an act of jealousy. Late in the match, Sanshiro Takagi had Sasuke in a Full Nelson. Dino saw his chance to take advantage and he pulled down Sasuke’s trunks. He was shocked to discover that Sasuke wears the same kind of rainbow colored thong that he does! Sasuke broke free and stunned Dino with a big kiss. He did the same to Takagi and then gave him the Danshoku Driver to win the match!

HARASHIMA & Michael Nakazawa joined forces to fight the Shit Heart ♥ Foundation. However, while HARASHIMA was a lot to handle for Takao Soma & Tomomitsu Matsunaga, Nakazawa didn’t pose as much of a threat. During the match, Matsunaga and Nakazawa fought in the stands and up to an empty section of the arena. Matsunaga got the upper hand and threw Nakazawa from the balcony to the floor. It wasn’t that much of a big drop though.

DJ Nira told MIKAMI before their match that he was a stronghold that could not be destroyed and he was ready to start the battle. Then MIKAMI instantly pinned him with a School Boy. Nira challenged him to an immediate rematch. So MIKAMI instantly pinned him with the School Boy again. Nira challenged for one more rematch and this time he avoided the School Boy. Unfortunately for him, MIKAMI survived his never lethal Rocket Punch and brought out a ladder so he could win with the Volcanic Bomb.

12. King Of DDT – Round 2: HARASHIMA defeated Super Shit Machine with the Somato (4:38).
13. King Of DDT – Round 2: Shigehiro Irie defeated Kota Ibushi with Mounted Elbows (8:02).

The King Of DDT semi-finals set for Kyoto KBS Hall on 29/5 are Kenny Omega Vs KUDO and HARASHIMA Vs Shigehiro Irie. The big upset in the tournament is Irie defeating Kota Ibushi in the main event, knocking him senseless with Elbow Smash after Elbow Smash.

King Of DDT shows are different from the usual DDT events as the card is filled with tournament matches that are mostly played straight with little comedy involved.

Kenny Omega brought along the JAPW Light Heavyweight Title belt and carried it to the ring for his matches. Makoto Oishi tried to counter the Croyt’s Wrath into a Rolling Cradle but Kenny overpowered him and was able to lift him back up and use his finisher to win.

Antonio Honda wore a Rocky style robe to the ring for his match with Seiya Morohashi.

KUDO and Yasu Urano shook hands before their match. The two were on and off tag team partners for years, culminating with a KO-D Tag Team Title run in 2009. The two went their seperate ways when Urano joined the GRANMA unit while KUDO kept to himself. They had the longest match in the First Round with KUDO getting the well earned win.

Hikaru Sato defeated Tomomitsu Matsunaga, getting a little measure of revenge on the Shit Heart ♥ Foundation. Sato and Matsunaga shook hands afterwards but Matsunaga then gave Sato a Back Drop. Takao Soma ran in and the two SHF members attacked Sato with a pair of scissors.

Takao Soma interfered in the next match, helping Super Shit Machine defeat Daisuke Sasaki after a ref bump. The plan almost backfired when Sasaki ducked Soma’s Super Kick, leaving Machine to take the blow. Sasaki rolled over Machine with a La Magistral but the ref was still out cold. Machine avoided the NOW OR NEVER and pushed Sasaki into the ropes. Soma leapt up and smashed a steel can over Sasaki’s head. Machine then hit the Lariat and the ref recovered in time to count the pin.

MIKAMI Vs HARASHIMA almost ended in an instant when MIKAMI countered a Big Boot into a School Boy. MIKAMI also survived the High Kick, Reverse Huracanrana and Somato combo to use another School Boy for a nearfall. MIKAMI even busted out the Suicide Bomb but it wasn’t enough. HARASHIMA got the best of his opponent by sliding out of one last School Boy, drilling MIKAMI with a Buzzsaw Kick and rolling over him with a Jackknife Hold for the pin.

Shigehiro Irie defeated Keisuke Ishii with the Locomotion Back Flip, which is two consecutive Vertical Drop Back Flips done without Irie letting go of Ishii.

Kota Ibushi used the Orange Crush to defeat Michael Nakazawa. Only this version was a direct vertical drop, spiking Nakazawa right on his head for a nasty finish to the match.

When the first round was over, DJ Nira entered the ring and sat down in the centre, telling everyone that he had nothing to do tonight. He was eventually joined by Danshoku Dino, Rion Mizuki and Kazuki Hirata. Since all four had nothing to do they decided to hold their own tournament which Nira named the Queen Of DDT. Takao Soma entered the ring to make it a 5-Way to decide who would win the C Block in the tournament. The A Block and B Block are presumably the two finalists in the King Of DDT. Kazuki Hirata was seconds away from submitting DJ Nira when Soma landed the Diving Guillotine Drop to break the hold. Soma then applied a Cross Armbreaker on Nira and immediatly submitted him.

In the Quarter Finals Kenny Omega defeated Seiya Morohashi, KUDO obliterated Hikaru Sato with his High Kicks, HARASHIMA survived SHF interference to eliminate Super Shit Machine and in the biggest shock of the night, Irie knocked out Ibushi with Elbow Smashes and pinned him for the three count.

6. DDT Extreme Title: Isami Kodaka (c) Vs MIKAMI

Seiya Morohashi will officially change his ring name to Big Morohashi on this show.

Shinichiro Tominaga and El Generico will cross paths once again, this time in a tag match. Generico and his partner for the night Yano K Data can make a big splash by grabbing the win over the KO-D Champion, Shuji Ishikawa.

Two thirds of the Triple Tails joshi faction will show up on the show. The Shirai Sisters will take on Cherry and Ken Ohka. The last time Mio Shirai & Io Shirai were in a DDT/Union ring was during last year’s Beer Garden Pro Wrestling shows. It wasn’t a pleasant experience when they fought Kenny Omega & Michael Nakazawa in a match where the losers had to strip naked. Nakazawa cheated to win but the Shirai Sisters decided to strip him of his dignity instead. Like I said, not pleasant.

American Balloon’s Story

May 16, 2011

Former DDT wrestler American Balloon posted an update on the Death Valley Driver message board about what he has been up to since his retirement from pro wrestling. It’s a pretty heartwarming read so I posted his message below. The thread he created can be found here.

———————————————————————–

So, perhaps you remember me from DDT, Zero-One, Chikara, or if you’re really into Japanese wrestling, perhaps to the point of perversion, you know me from Hokuto Pro Wrestling, Toryumon Mexico, or DEP.

Regardless of whether or not you know who I am, I always had a great time posting here, and I greatly enjoyed all the support from you guys. I hope you’ll support me in reading this long-winded and very loosely wrestling-related summary of the going-ons in my life.

About a year ago, I had my retirement match with KUDO.  The reason I decided to retire is, sadly, not very complex.  I had moved to the Japanese countryside, and was working as a teacher for kids, which I loved.  I actually hadn’t even realized I worked well with kids until I started, but I enjoyed working with kids as much or more than working as a wrestler.  Both jobs are actually quite similar, in fact.  Both of them involve childish craziness (especially in DDT,) pranks, and a lot of fighting.

So, shortly after my retirement match, I saw a documentary in Japan, called ‘Manhole Children.’  It was about street children living in Mongolia.  I think it would be possible for you to find it, or a similar documentary, on youtube, but the one I saw was in Japanese, and was horribly eye-opening to the conditions such young kids, like those I was teaching, had to face.  I instantly wanted to research volunteering in Mongolia, thinking about perhaps going for a summer and volunteering at an orphanage.

In September, a family emergency had me quitting my job and returning to America.  I was extremely sad to say goodbye to all the great people I worked with, and the kids took it even harder than I did.  My school was furious at me for not being able to finish the school year (Japanese school years end in March,) but without getting into specifics, the emergency was severe enough that my parents insisted I go to America immediately.  The situation passed, and I had become free.  I had money saved up from my work, no obligations in the US or Japan, and a chance to start something new.  Whatever I did, I couldn’t forget the documentary I had seen, and I decided I would go to Mongolia and start something.  I got in contact with a Mongolian woman who runs an NGO, as well as an English School, who wanted to found a new non-profit project with me.  In January, I set off with no idea exactly who I’d be helping or what I’d be doing, but a strong feeling that I was likely to find the happiness that comes from helping someone in need.

After interviewing several projects, interviewing the directors of schools in poor areas, and talking directly with street children, we found out a few things about the situation in Mongolia.  There are orphanages, but the kids who are on the streets feel that they would rather work collecting bottles and making a few dollars a day than live in an orphanage and go to school, and not make any money.  They weren’t interested in education, as they already considered themselves employed.  Furthermore, we found that there is a huge divide in the quality of education between rich children and poor children.  Rich families could afford private schools with classes that run from 8-5, small class sizes, foreign language education, and all the things they need to be successful.  Although many poor children don’t attend school, the ones who do have only 2 hours of lessons per day, due to the school being overcrowded, with substandard, underpaid teachers and only basic lessons.

After our research, we found that there is a lack of resources for the poor children who live with their families.  They wear dirty clothes, don’t bathe, either don’t go to school or don’t get a good enough education, are often abused due to the alcoholism problem here, and all too often grow up to repeat the cycle with their own families.  We started a center that allows them to come whenever they need to, take classes to give them education/job skills, have a place to relax, get support entering university, and eat, bathe, and wear clean clothes.  Our center has, so far, been funded by our savings, but those are running out, and we hope to receive donations to keep our center going and provide the kids with the things they need.

My project’s web page is http://www.cocoonproject.org/.  Definitely check out our introduction video!  I’d greatly appreciate your letting people know about us.  If you can, please donate or come to Mongolia to volunteer!

Apart from the project, it’s been four months, and I can finally communicate in Mongolian decently.  To promote my project, I appeared on the Mongolian equivalent of American Idol, called Universe Best Songs, and made it to the semi-finals before getting dropped.  I’ve had crazy people jump into my car to tell me they’ve seen me on TV… it’s much harder than it was in Japan at the height of my popularity 😛

Anyway, in a nutshell, I’m happier than I’ve ever been, and I feel that I’m doing really good things here.  I plan to stay here and run this project for the rest of my life.  And as a special present for you guys, I’ll let you in on something I have going on.  I’m training the Mongolian kids in puroresu, just as I was trained by Kendo Kashin.  It’s good exercise for them, and they absolutely love it.  Potentially, you may see an influx of Mongolian pro wrestlers in 6 or 7 years, as there are a few kids who are doing really great.  You can see a video of them doing hindu squats here and here.

Wishing you guys all the best,

American Balloon

Togo’s Final DDT Match, Union To Get A Lot Of People

May 16, 2011

DDT “WHAT ARE YOU DOING 2011”, 19/06/2011
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

0. Dark Match: Gorgeous Matsuno Vs DJ Nira
1. Masa Takanashi Comeback – Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title: Masa Takanashi (c) Vs Keisuke Ishii
2. Dick Togo DDT Last Match: Dick Togo & Antonio Honda Vs Yasu Urano & Daisuke Sasaki
3. KO-D Openweight Title: Shuji Ishikawa (c) Vs GENTARO
4. KO-D Openweight Title: Shuji Ishikawa or GENTARO (c) Vs Takao Soma

Dick Togo will make his final appearance for DDT on this show before his retirement. He will team with Antonio Honda to face Yasu Urano & Daisuke Sasaki. Togo has connections with all three wrestlers, teaming with Honda and Sasaki when they were part of the Italian 4 Horsemen. He is also currently sided with Urano as part of the GRANMA stable.

UNION “I’LL GET A LOT OF PEOPLE IN TOYAMA 2011”, 05/06/2011
Tomiyama Takaoka Ekuru

1. Shinichiro Tominaga Vs Hiroya Fukuda
2. Seiya Morohashi & Hiroyo Matsumoto Vs Cherry & Hiro Tsumaki
3. Triple Threat: Isami Kodaka Vs El Generico Vs Cao Zhung (w/ Princess Makoto)
4. SS Susan Vs TKG48: Yoshiaki Yago, Kengo Ohka & Madoka Vs Sanshiro Takagi, X & X
5. Shuji Ishikawa Vs Ken Ohka

On paper this sounds like a one-sided main event, and it probably will be. But you can’t fault Ken Ohka’s enthusiasm when facing against far more established wrestlers. There is a history of Ohka being jealous of Shuji Ishikawa being the ace of Union. Many end of show speeches in the ring have seen Ohka trying to blindside Shuji, only to be swatted away like a bug.

Sanshiro Takagi has promised to team with two “elite” members of the TKG48. Will we see some new additions to the supergroup?

El Generico returns to Union after his impressive victory over Shinichiro Tominaga at “1…2…3…UNION!” back in January. This time he sticks his head into the feud between Isami Kodaka and Cao Zhang for a Triple Threat match.

There will be one more match taking place on the show featuring DDT wrestlers. The participants will be announced soon.

Beer Garden Pro Wrestling 2011

May 10, 2011

Mark it down on your calendars. The week of 7th to 13th August will be the dates for the 2011 edition of “BEER GARDEN PRO WRESTLING”! For the 7th year in a row, DDT will host a week’s worth of shows at Shin-Kiba 1st RING. Each show will be produced by part of the roster. Whatever matches take place is entirely up to them. Meanwhile fans get to grab a bite to eat from many food stalls set up by the wrestlers themselves. And of course there is plenty of beer on offer too. It’s a week of fun wrestling shows and a chance for the wrestlers to let their imaginations run loose.

DDT announced that they have raised ¥614,035 for the Red Cross so far this month. The money came from the entire proceeds of the “FACTORY PRO WRESTLING AGAIN” event, the 4th May double bill at Korakuen Hall and donations sent to their offices. They will continue accepting donations at future events for the time being.

Two KO-D Title Matches, Official Masa Comeback

DDT “WHAT ARE YOU DOING 2011”, 19/06/2011
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. Masa Takanashi Comeback – Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title: Masa Takanashi (c) Vs Keisuke Ishii
2. KO-D Openweight Title: Shuji Ishikawa (c) Vs GENTARO
3. KO-D Openweight Title: Shuji Ishikawa or GENTARO (c) Vs Takao Soma

Shuji Ishikawa has a tough challenge ahead for his title reign. He will defend the KO-D Openweight Title against GENTARO on 19th July when GENTARO cashes in his “Anytime And Anywhere” contract. But that is not all for the championship on that night. There will be not one but two KO-D Title matches taking place in Korakuen Hall with the winner of Shuji Ishikawa Vs GENTARO taking on Takao Soma afterwards. Takao Soma has seen his profile in DDT rise ever since he won the Young Drama Cup. Since then, he has taken over the Shit Heart ♥ Foundation and revamped it to be a threat instead of a joke. Now he will have the advantage of being the fresh man in his title match.

We had the surprising return of Masa Takanashi at “MAX BUMP 2011” to announce his comeback match at the 19th June Korakuen Hall show. He will take on Keisuke Ishii in his first match since injuring his right knee last May and it will be for the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Championship. When Masa and Keisuke had a faceoff at “MAX BUMP 2011”, Ishii used the 24/7 rule to his advantage by rolling over Masa with a Small Package to win the title when Masa least expected it. However, Masa quickly did the same to Ishii to win the belt back. Now they will meet in a proper match with the title on the line.

UNION “NIMOMAKEZU RAIN”, 02/06/2011
Shinjuku FACE

1. Tsuyoshi Kikuchi Vs Genichiro Tenryu
2. Dick Togo & Yasu Urano Vs Seiya Morohashi & Hiro Tsumaki

MIKAMI earned a shot at the DDT Extreme Title when he and Jun Kasai defeated Isami Kodaka & Yano K Data at “GOLDEN UNION 2011”.

KING of DDT 2011

May 5, 2011

With Sumo Hall approaching on the horizon, DDT has turned to its annual KING of DDT tournament to determine who will challenge for the KO-D Openweight Title on 24th July. The bracket is filled with wrestlers who are hungry for the chance to headline DDT’s biggest show of the year. The two previous winners HARASHIMA and Kota Ibushi are favourites to win, but this is by no means a two horse race. Antonio Honda and Hikaru Sato would love to reclaim the title they both held for the briefest of moments, Kenny Omega wants to have his best memory of Sumo Hall not be of that time Naomichi Marufuji dumped him on his head, KUDO and Makoto Oishi have both seen their games improve since the formation of Man’s Club and Michael Nakazawa is willing to “Bring It” just like his role model, The Rock.

The first two rounds will take place on 21st May at Shin-Kiba 1st RING. The Semi-Finals and Final will be held eight days later at Kyoto KBS Hall. Also on that show is Danshoku Dino’s latest battle with Bob Sapp’s Assassins.
