As the 2013 King of DDT winner, HARASHIMA gets a main event KO-D Title shot at Sumo Hall. It is a title shot that has alluded the challenger ever since February when HARASHIMA fought and lost to Kenny Omega. All that is left to figure out now is who the champion will be. Shigehiro Irie defends the championship against Big Japan’s Yuji Okabayashi in Korakuen Hall on 21st July. If Okabayashi wins, it will bring back memories of “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2010” when HARASHIMA challenged Daisuke Sekimoto for that very championship. A victory for Irie however will continue what is now arguably the most successful KO-D Title reign in DDT history.

Meanwhile a co-main event has been signed and I am so excited to see it happen. It will be the Independent Genius taking on the Rainmaker when Kota Ibushi faces the current IWGP Heavyweight Champion, Kazuchika Okada from New Japan. This will continue Ibushi’s move up to heavyweight status along with his recent weight gain (it is currently 88kg). What’s interesting to note is the match will take place one week after the final of the G1 CLIMAX, which both men have entered. Ibushi thinks he will win the G1 and is interested, is highly motivated to wrestle Okada and wants to challenge for the IWGP Title. However, since there has been no mention of the championship during the announcement, I believe that Ibushi Vs Okada will be a non-title bout if Okada is still the champion when “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2013” takes place.

Speaking of Ibushi and the G1 CLIMAX, his group match with Shinsuke Nakamura in Osaka on 4th August will be shown live on Ustream iPPV.

HARASHIMA wins the 2013 King of DDT and will challenge for the KO-D Openweight Title in the co-main event of “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2013”. It took two Somatos and a Swan Dive Somato for HARASHIMA to beat Kenny Omega in the final. HARASHIMA defeated the rookie phenom Konosuke Takeshita in the semi-final while Omega took care of Yukio Sakaguchi. Now we to see who the champion will be, Shigehiro Irie or Yuji Okabayashi?

The “super important” announcement was the reveal of Kazuchika Okada competing at “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2013”. But that’s not all, it was announced Okada will take on Kota Ibushi in the co-main event! Ibushi thanked the crowd for the support they will give him in the upcoming G1 Climax and he promised he will do his best against the Rainmaker.

Danshoku Dino & Makoto Oishi announced that Kensuke Sasaki will be the third member of their team when they challenge the Monster Army for the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles on 21/7. GM Tsurumi Amon was completely unaware of this and now has to contact Sasaki and negotiate with him to actually appear at the show.

Antonio Honda and Daisuke Sasaki both wrestled in Kushinbo Kamen costumes along with the gear they stole from Masa Takanashi & Akito. I guess they are Kamen’s spare costumes and the Monster Army stole them too.

The Shigehiro Irie title reign rolls on after an emotional challenge from his mentor Sanshiro Takagi. It’s daunting enough to take on your teacher, but for him to name a new finishing move after your favourite AV idol just to play mind games? That takes things to another level. But Irie was able for the task and defeated Takagi to score a seventh KO-D Title defence. Both men were in tears after the match and Irie thanked Takagi for helping him become stronger in his hometown.

Takagi suffered a whiplash from a Fire Thunder Driver just before the end of the match.

The King of DDT 2nd Round provided the other big stories today. Kenny Omega defeated Daisuke Sasaki in the first match. Omega praised Sasaki afterwards for his growth as a good wrestler. Yukio Sakaguchi countered Antonio Honda’s Anaconda Vice into a Reverse Cross Armbreaker to grab the submission victory. Sakaguchi called Honda a formidable opponent and he is now confident he can win the tournament in his first try. HARASHIMA went through another hard fought battle with Hikaru Sato and won with the Swan Dive Somato.

The big surprise of the tournament has been Konosuke Takeshita. The rookie who hasn’t even had a full year in DDT is now two matches away from a main event title match at Sumo Hall. Takeshita defeated Yasu Urano and left a message that his Touchdown finisher can defeat anyone. Urano said his loss was embarrassing and a mistake.

With the 2nd Round over, the Semi-Final draw took place. The results is HARASHIMA Vs Takeshita and Omega Vs Sakaguchi taking place in Osaka tomorrow along with the big final.

Michael Nakazawa set up the NAKAZA-1 CLIMAX for some of the King of DDT 1st Round losers to compete in. Kota Ibushi won the Battle Royal and the prize was an immediate match against Nakazawa. Ibushi easily beat him in under a minute.

Sanshiro Takagi has added a new move to his arsenal, an Argentine Backbreaker he calls the Seibi Killer. The move is named after Rika Seibi, who just happens to be Shigehiro Irie’s favourite gravure idol. The Seibi Killer was super effective on Irie and Takagi intends to use it again when they fight for the KO-D Openweight Title next month in Nagoya. Irie is furious that Takagi would tarnish his Seibi’s name.

Masa Takanashi & Akito appeared in the ring before their match complaining about their gear going missing backstage. They accused The Monster Army of stealing their stuff. Tsurumi Amon disagreed and said they couldn’t have stolen anything because they were rehabilitated by the TenKoji Police Force last year. Antonio Honda & Daisuke Sasaki then showed up wearing Masa’s shorts and Akito’s arm bands. The Monster Army then stole the victory when Honda placed his foot on the ropes while pinning Takanashi with a School Boy.

The role of MIKAMI was played today by Guanchuro. Everything about the portrayal was accurate from the clothing to the hand gestures.

Two big surprise early exits have happened in the King of DDT 1st Round. Kota Ibushi was caught with a flash pin and defeated by Yasu Urano while Masa Takanashi lost to the rookie Konosuke Takeshita. Meanwhile Daisuke Sasaki has become a force to be reckoned with, winning the dark match Battle Royal to enter the tournament and then making quick work of Takao Soma.

The matches for Round 2 are Kenny Omega Vs Daisuke Sasaki, Konosuke Takeshita Vs Yasu Urano, Antonio Honda Vs Yukio Sakaguchi and Hikaru Sato Vs HARASHIMA. The matches will take place in Nagoya on 6th July.

A new match was announced for “PROGRESS AND HARMONY OF WRESTLING” at Sumo Hall on 17/8. MIKAMI will be teaming up with The Hawtness himself, Yoshihiro Takayama to take on Tomomitsu Matsunaga & Michael Nakazawa!

Sumo Hall Update, It’s Madness

Danshoku Dino Vs Kota Ibushi is confirmed as the main event for Night 1. This event is more of a entertainment variety show rather than a typical pro wrestling show (which DDT doesn’t do that often at Sumo Hall anyway).

The Idol Lumberjack 3 Way Match is exactly what it sounds like. Each idol group will represent a wrestler and then surround the ring as the lumberjacks. They will be armed with weapons and are allowed to attack anyone who leaves the ring. Any wrestler who comes into physical contact with an idol will be immediately disqualified. Makoto Oishi and Yuko Miyamoto are two of the confirmed participants. The third will be decided in a match between Sanshiro Takagi and Isami Kodaka that takes place on 14th July. So far the idol groups involved are Sizukaze & Kizuna ～KIZUNA～ on Oishi’s side, LinQ on Miyamoto’s side and the Up Up Girls siding with the remaining wrestler.

The Battle Royal is sponsored by the All Night Nippon GOLD radio programme.

The opening contest involves two male music groups that Hiroshi Fukuda has some association with.

Mita Sayako from Samurai! TV and Ryota Yamasato from Nankai Candies are the two hosts for the show. Other artists and personalities scheduled to appear are Tetsu Watanabe (Antonio Honda’s father), Kenji Sakaguchi (Yukio Sakaguchi’s brother), Kenji Otsuki and Jun Retsu.

Komyo is a large framed autograph from artist Akihiro Miwa and it is currently the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion. Komyo is also currently in possession of a Research Institute Group and most likely won’t show up at another wrestling event before this show. So it’s probably safe to say the painting will stay as champion until the show takes place. Unless DJ Nira sneaks into the building with a hammer.

Last but not least, I assume many of you have seen the poster advertising the two shows? The nude photographs of the DDT roster were taken by professional photographer Leslie Kee and are part of a photobook DDT will release that weekend. Don’t worry, it won’t be exclusively nude photos.
