*Kota Ibushi fails in V3. Low Ki becomes the 65th IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion!

Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi both lost their title matches in the space of 24 hours at the beginning of the week. Omega went to All Japan to challenge for the AJPW Jr. Title held by Hiroshi Yamato and all he left with was a broken ear drum and some stitches. Meanwhile Kota Ibushi lost the IWGP Jr. Title to Low Ki over in New Japan, marking his second title loss in two weeks.

Here we have a multi-promotional tag match between DDT and Wrestling New Classic against All Japan and ZABUN (a WAVE affiliated brand). This is a kind of match that I like to call Fire Pro Wrestling match making.

Daisuke Sasaki has been entered into a tournament to crown New Japan’s newest champion. The NEVER Openweight Title is the prize everyone will be fighting for and Sasaki will face 8 year veteran Tomohiro Ishii in the first round on 15th November in Tokyo SHIBUYA-AX. Is Sasaki defeats Ishii he will face YOSHI-YASHI or Ryuichi Sekine in the next round four days later.

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Kota Ibushi (c) defeated KUSHIDA with the Sit Down Last Ride (25:10).
*V1 for Kota Ibushi.

Kota Ibushi’s first defence of the IWGP Jr. Title took place today against the man he was originally supposed to face during his first title reign a year ago. Despite what was described as a spirited challenge by the young KUSHIDA, Ibushi was the last one standing. Now he is being challenged for the championship by both Ryusuke Taguchi and Low Ki.

When asked about his thoughts on the match after the show, Ibushi’s first reply was “My arm is sore” (in reference to KUSHIDA targeting his arm during the match). The interviewer asked him about Taguchi and Low Ki, Ibushi said he will “win more and more” and said that the 25 minute match was a “short-term battle.” When asked if he would rather face Taguchi or Low Ki, Ibushi said Taguchi because Low Ki has a scary voice. However, Ibushi hasn’t made his decision yet and he will defend his title at anytime.

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Kota Ibushi defeated Low Ki (c) with the Phoenix Splash (19:30).
*Low Ki fails in V2. Kota Ibushi becomes the 64th IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion!

Kota Ibushi returned to New Japan today to challenge Low Ki for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship, the title he had to vacate back in September 2011 after a shoulder injury. With Kenny Omega, Daisuke Sasaki and Michael Nakazawa in his corner, Ibushi fought tooth and nail with Low Ki. The champ dodged Ibushi’s Quebrada outside the ring and later applied an upside down Dragon Sleeper hanging from the top rope. Ibushi recovered and hit the Quebrada a second time. Feet were flying from both wrestlers as their kick heavy offence came into play. Low Ki avoided the Sit Down Last Ride and tried to finish the match with the Phoenix Splash. But Ibushi rolled out of the way and struck Low Ki with the Cartwheel Overhead Kick. Ibushi landed his own Phoenix Splash to pin Low Ki and win the IWGP Jr. Title for the second time. Afterwards, KUSHIDA came out to challenge the new champion.

The big victory continues Ibushi’s path of success since returning from injury. His next big challenge is Kenny Omega at the DDT 15th Anniversary Show in Budokan Hall.

One year after teaming together, Danshoku Dino returned to New Japan to team up with the pink mohawked Luchador Maximo once again for the New Japan & CMLL co-production of “FANTASTICA MANIA”. Before their match with TAKA Michinoku & Taichi even began, Dino tried to kiss Milano Collection AT at the commentator’s table. Milano avoided Dino by dragging another commentator in his place for the kiss. Even though Dino and Maximo got along fabulously and recieved chants of “Maxi-Dino” from the fans, their efforts could not defeat TAKA & Taichi. Dino & Maximo let bygones be bygones and both kissed the referee at the same time after the match. Dino then chased Taichi into the locker room.

A correction on yesterday’s update. The TKG Rogue Army and Russia’s KGB48 were actually joining forces, not declaring war on each other. Instead, Sanshiro Takagi is bringing together representatives of many international 48-strong Wrestling Idol groups to fight Homoiro Clover Z. This has created a 10-Man Tag Team match for New Year’s Eve in Korakuen Hall. On one side is the Homoiro team of Danshoku Dino and Makoto Oishi plus new Z members Gran Hamada, Akito & Hiroshi Fukuda. On the other side is Sanshiro Takagi (TKG Rogue Army), Vladamir Nagai (KGB48), Ivan Markov (KGB48), Poison JULIE Sawada (PJS48) and Hoshitango (SUMO48). Hikari Minami and Bonnie will both be at ringside cheering for their respective sides.

After his recent visit to Union, Katsuhiko Nakajima will now show up in DDT with his fellow Kensuke Office pal Satoshi Kajiwara. HARASHIMA & Takao Soma will be the DDT team for this match.

Kota Ibushi Vacates Titles!

September 12, 2011

Kota Ibushi’s niggling shoulder injury returned to haunt him this week and it has cost him the title he values most. Ibushi dislocated his left shoulder during an indy wrestling event in Osaka yesterday and will be out of action for an undisclosed amount of time. Unfortunately, this means his scheduled IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title defence against KUSHIDA at the 19th September New Japan event at Kobe World Hall. As a result, Ibushi has forfeited the title and is no longer the IWGP Jr. Champion. The title will now be awarded to the winner of KUSHIDA Vs Prince Devitt at that show.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, the injury has also forced Ibushi and Danshoku Dino to vacate the KO-D Tag Team Titles they won just last month. This is a major blow at a time when Ibushi was at the peak of success as a DDT pro wrestler.

Omega & Sato Vs All Japan, Ibushi Vs KUSHIDA

August 16, 2011

This September, Kenny Omega and Hikaru Sato are both crossing over to All Japan to compete in this year’s AJPW Jr. Heavyweight League. Omega has stated that he wants to win a singles title in Japan. Since his fellow Golden Lover is currently king of the New Japan Jr Heavyweight scene, Omega has set his sights on All Japan for his search of glory. Omega’s opposition in his group are the current AJPW Jr. Heavyweight Champion KAI, aswell as Kaz Hayashi, Minoru, BUSHI and BLACK BUSHI (who I assume is BUSHI’s non-union Canadian equivalent). Hikaru Sato returns to the tournament after a luke-warm win-loss record from last year. This time Sato’s opponents in his block are Shuji Kondo, Hiroshi Yamato, MAZADA, Jimmy Yang and New Japan’s Koji Kanemoto.

Kids Fight ~Haruka’s Pro-Wrestling Story Summer Vacation Chapter~: Haruka Vs Kenny Omega ended in a Time Limit Draw (3:00).

On the same day DDT held the “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2011” show, Kenny Omega made an earlier appearance for the new Stardom joshi promotion at Korakuen Hall. Omega was there to take on Stardom’s youngest wrestler, a nine year old girl named Haruka. Kenny tried to be a good sport before the match by offering a handshake, but Haruka kicked his hand away. The two fought to a 3 minute draw with the bell ringing right when Omega was about to use his Croyt’s Wrath finishing move. Afterwards Omega offered another handshake to the little girl but got a slap across the face instead. Haruka won over the crowd and Omega once again learned that Japanese children are violent little brats.
