Bob Sapp Needs Your Help

January 31, 2011

Every year thousands of Bob Sapps are left abandoned in the streets of Japan. Hungry, homeless but most importantly alone whenever they step into the squared circle for a freak show fight, they need our time and generosity now more than ever. By donating just ¥4,000,000 a month you can reach out to Bob Sapps in their time of need. With your help we can get Bob Sapps like this one back on their feet and take part in a show at Sumo Hall where they might get molested by a rampaging homosexual. Please, give generously. Thank you.

*No Bob Sapps were hurt in the making of this video.

KO-D Title Plans, DDT On Youtube

January 31, 2011

A schedule of KO-D Openweight Title matches and contendership challenges from now until Sumo Hall has been posted. Not many wrestling companies plan out the schedule of title matches so far in advance but it benefits everyone wanting to keep track of the title race as DDT begins promoting its largest show of the year. The schedule goes as follows.

11th February: A Royal Rumble in Shin-Kiba 1st RING determines the next challenger for the KO-D Title.

27th February: Dick Togo defends the KO-D Title against the Royal Rumble winner in Korakuen Hall.

27th March: KO-D Title match in Korakuen Hall.

4th May: KO-D Title match in Korakuen Hall.

21st May: The first and second rounds of the KO-D Challenger Tournament takes place in Shin-Kiba 1st RING.

29th May: The Semi-Final and Final rounds of the KO-D Challenger Tournament takes place in Kyoto KBS Hall.

24th July: KO-D Champion takes on the Tournament winner in the main event of Sumo Hall.

DDT now has an official Youtube channel set up with one video posted so far. The video is of Bob Sapp falling on hard times until he discovers DDT and goes to meet Sanshiro Takagi and Ken Ohka. The meeting doesn’t end well for DDT. I’ll post it when I’m done with a few updates.

Order Of Eliminations: Hoshitango (3:16), Minoru Fujita (5:04), Michael Nakazawa (5:51), Tanomusaku Toba (5:57), Danshoku Dino (4:49), Makoto Oishi (7:02), DJ Nira (9:21) and Yukihiro Abe (12:13).
5. DDT Tokyo Beginning of Fight 2011 Special Tag Match: Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega defeated HARASHIMA & KUDO when Omega pinned KUDO with the Croyth’s Wrath (16:55)
6. KO-D Openweight Title Unification Match: Dick Togo (c) defeated Antonio Honda (i/c) with the Diving Senton (26:24).
*Dick Togo becomes the 35th KO-D Openweight Champion.

With the injury setback now behind him, Dick Togo reclaimed his place on top of the DDT landscape by defeating Antonio Honda to unite the KO-D Openweight Championship with its unified version. In a correction to what I wrote a while back, Togo is officially the 35th KO-D Champion and now a 4-time holder of the title.

A Royal Rumble will take place at the 11th February Shin-Kiba 1st Ring show to determine the next challenger for Togo. The confirmed challengers so far are HARASHIMA, KUDO, Kota Ibushi, MIKAMI, Keisuke Ishii and Daisuke Sasaki. Also set to take place on the night is Dick Togo Vs DJ Nira in a non-title match and Kenny Omega Vs Michael Nakazawa.

Kota Ibushi had to go to the hospital for a CAT Scan after he suffered a mild concussion after a High Kick by HARASHIMA. He is likely to recover quickly and not miss any of the upcoming shows.

Keisuke Ishii was victorious in the Battle Royal. He will now get to produce his own show for the DDT Brand tripleshot at Shin-Kiba 1st Ring on 6th March. An extra rule was added to the match. The Suzumiya Haruhi theme song was played for almost the entire match. Whenever the song reached its chorus, everyone in the ring had to do the “Hare Hare Yukai” dance or be eliminated. Yukihiro Abe spent the match dressed as the main character from the series.

The disqualification in match #2 led to Hikaru Sato challenging Takao Soma to a match at the 27th Fabruary Korakuen Hall show. The match was accepted and will be Hair Vs Hair!

Bob Sapp was announced to appear at DDT’s Sumo Hall show on 24th August. Yes, that Bob Sapp. A video was shown of “The Beast” confronting Sanshiro Takagi and Ken Ohka at DDT HQ. Takagi came up with some suggestions on Twitter for Sapp’s opponent. So far he’s thought of Bob Sapp Vs Tsuyoshi Kikuchi, Bob Sapp Vs Tsurumi Goro and Bob Sapp Vs Ultraman Robin. A fun little fact that comes out of this is that in the space of a year, three former IWGP Heavyweight Champions have appeared in DDT so far: Genichiro Tenryu, Togi Makabe & Manabu Nakanishi. Bob Sapp will make it four if he does indeed show up and compete on the night.

Speaking of Takagi, he seems to be very pleased to be the “World’s Second Largest Promoter!” after the Wrestling Observer Awards came out.

Contract Renewal Time, SWEET DREAMS! Card

January 28, 2011

This part of the year in puroresu always brings bout the annual contract signing period where the promotions renegotiate the contracts of their signed wrestlers. DDT is no different when it comes to keeping tabs on its talent. January 28th was the final day of negotiations and the results have since been announced.

The DDT wrestlers who have signed new contracts are:

MIKAMI, HARASHIMA, Kota Ibushi, Danshoku Dino, KUDO, Yasu Urano, Masa Takanashi, Michael Nakazawa, Tomomitsu Matsunaga, Keisuke Ishii, Hoshitango, Gota Ihashi, Takao Soma, Rion Mizuki, Kazuki Hirata, Posion Sawada JULIE, Gorgeous Matsuno and Dick Togo.

The Union wrestlers who have signed new contracts are:

Shuji Ishikawa, Isami Kodaka, Ken Ohka, Seiya Morohashi, Cherry, Hiro Tsumaki and Shinichiro Tominaga.

Four wrestlers have declined offers to extend their contracts. They are Tanomusaku Toba, Futoshi Miwa and Yukihiro Abe for DDT aswell as 726 for Union. It’s likely that Toba and Abe will still wrestle part-time for DDT. Those two are still scheduled to compete in the Right To Produce Battle Royal at “SWEET DREAMS!” on Sunday. Miwa rarely wrestles nowadays and 726 had a light schedule with Union anyway so no big losses there. Again it’s possible that they could make some future appearances here and there.

Yusuke Inokuma also did not sign a new contract but in this case it was because he needed to return home to find his driver’s license. He has until February to find his license and sign the new contract.

Three of the wrestlers who signed new contracts are currently out of action with injuries. Masa Takanashi is recovering from his knee injury and is aiming to return in the summer. Poison Sawada JULIE is nursing his right elbow back to full health. Gota Ihashi was last seen in March but hasn’t wrestled since because of ligament damage in both knees.

Dick Togo is sticking with DDT up to his announced retirement. Can he end his career as the KO-D Champion?

Also notice that Michael Nakazawa signed his contract on time this year. The last time he delayed his contract renewal it led to Danshoku Dino assaulting him in his house and his car exploding with him inside it when trying to escape. He finally made it to the arena covered in burn marks while carrying the remains of his contract, only to inadvertently distract Sanshiro Takagi and cause him to lose the DDT Extreme Title to Hoshitango.

And The Award Goes To…

January 26, 2011

The 2010 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards were revealed today with the Golden Lovers having a few mentions here and there. Kota Ibushi won the “Best Flying Wrestler” award for the second year in a row as well as finishing fifth for “Best Wrestling Maneuver”. Kenny Omega got an honorable mention for the “Most Improved” award. Together, the Golden Lovers ranked 7th for “Tag Team Of The Year”. The Best Of The Super Juniors final between Ibushi and Prince Devitt aswell as the Golden Lovers’ IWGP Jr. Tag Team Championship win over Apollo 55 in October also got honorable mentions for “Worked Match Of The Year”.

DDT got an honorable mention for “Promotion Of The Year”. Sanshiro Takagi himself got a look in too, finishing second place for “Promoter Of The Year” losing to Dana White for the second year in a row. However, if you see the glass as half full that means Takagi is the best pro wrestling promoter for two years in a row. 🙂

Add these accomplishments to the Golden Lovers winning “Best Tag Team” and “Best Match” in the Weekly Pro-Wrestling awards as well as “Match Of The Year” in the Tokyo Sports awards and you have a heck of a year for the Golden Lovers. Here’s looking forward to seeing what else they and DDT can accomplish in 2011.

Nakazawa In Ice Ribbon

January 26, 2011

Ice Ribbon, 26/01/2011
Ice Ribbon School, Saitama

Bra Match: Makoto defeated Michael Nakazawa when she stripped him of his bra (7:05).

Michael Nakazawa was the latest DDT wrestler to show up in Ice Ribbon. He was at today’s show in the Ice Ribbon School to take on the girl who’s ultimate goal in wrestling is to become a WWE Diva, Makoto. Nakazawa being the kinky type wore a bra and was somehow able to make a stipulation that in order to win the match, you had to remove the bra worn by your opponent. Whether or not this was an excuse for Nakazawa to perve over Makoto didn’t matter because in the end, Makoto stripped Nakazawa of his bra and his dignity to win. Nakazawa cheered himself up by sneaking into the Ice Ribbon office after the show and rummaging through Emi Sakura’s clothes, as shown in the picture above.

Golden Lovers Lose IWGP Jr Tag Titles

January 23, 2011

NJPW “NJPW PRESENTS CMLL FANTASTICA MANIA 2011”, 23/01/2011
Tokyo Korakuen Hall
2,005 Fans – Super No Vacancy Full House

1. Jado & Gedo defeated Máximo & Danshoku Dino when Jado submitted Dino with the Crossface Of Jado (10:39).
6. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title: Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi defeated Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega (c) when Taguchi pinned Omega after the Black Sunday (16:32).
*Golden Lovers fail in V3. Apollo 55 become the 28th Champions.

A bad day of results for DDT in New Japan. After a period of dominating their rivals in both promotions, Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega lost the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Titles to the previous champions Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi in the main event.

Meanwhile, Danshoku Dino found a kindred spirit in the form of CMLL luchador Máximo. Unfortunately they fell to Jado & Gedo in the opener, with Jado getting revenge for his Super J Cup 1st Round loss to Dino back in 2009.

New Beijing Match Details

January 22, 2011

NEW BEIJING “JAPAN TOUR 2011”
11/02/2011
Shin-Kiba 1st RING

1. The Decisive Battle!: Liu Bei Ito Vs Cao Zhang
2. Chinese Stars Gathered In Japan!: Dragon Achoooo! & Zhou Yu Vs Ranjei Lee & Jet Bar
3. Opium War!?: Queen Elizabeth & Statue Of David Vs Golden Horn & Silver Horn
4. National Scramble For The Imperial Seal!: King Andui Qin Vs Great Slave No. 643 Vs Megumi Shin Akira Ra Nuruhachi Vs Emperor Qin Vs Zen Liu
5. Rushi’s Last Play: Choun-Shiryu, Rushi Togo & Young Master Togo Vs Hazime Hutoshi, Somato & Giant Boshoku

I’m pretty sure I butchered most if not all of the names being used in the show.

Each match presents a different tale that takes place in the world of New Beijing Pro Wrestling.

1. The Decisive Battle!
Back in China, New Beijing has a popular feud between two factions, the Wei faction and the Shu faction. Every year, one wrestler from each faction is chosen to take part in a big match known as the “Northern Expedition Derby“. However, to commemorate China becoming the second largest economy in the world New Beijing decided to have the match take place on their Japan tour instead.

2. Chinese Stars Gathered In Japan!
Some of China’s biggest stars from the silver screen gather together in Shin-Kiba to enjoy a dream contest.

3. Opium War!?
Centuries ago, China was notorious for importing of opium across the world. It was a lucrative market for the nation, but as more and more of the global population fell ill or became degenerates due to opium addiction, China was banned from any further opium importing. However, opium was still smuggled outside of the country and a black market grew because of it. The illegal opium trafficking led to conflict between China and Great Britain, with a newly formed discipline committee deciding to solve tensions by having both countries compete against each other in a wrestling match. A wrestling match that happens to involve Queen Elizabeth and the Statue Of David. Why do I have the feeling that the Statue Of David will turn out to be David Beckham?

4. National Scramble For The Imperial Seal!
The Imperial Seal has been handed down from generation to generation as proof of the holder’s right to be master of the world. A state of emergency in 2010 took place when the Seal went missing. This led to the sudden collapse of New Beijing Pro Wrestling. Now leaders from around the world travel to China in search of the ancient artifact and claim the absent throne. In an unexpected turn of events, word spread that the Imperial Seal was found in Japan. Now an epic battle takes place as several warriors go to war over who the artifact belongs to.

5. Rushi’s Last Play
With his retirement on the horizon, Rushi Goto takes part in one last performance. But while one legend prepares to leave wrestling, a new generation of warriors are eager to rake his place.

From what I was able to understand, this is a list of who some of the wrestlers actually are.

Rushi Togo = Dick Togo
Young Master Togo = Kenny Omega
Hazime Hutoshi = GENTARO
Somato = HARASHIMA
Giant Boshoku = Shuji Ishikawa
Great Slave No. 643 = Sanshiro Takagi
Megumi Shin Akira Ra Nuruhachi = Michael Nakazawa
Dragon Achoooo! = KUDO
Zhou Yu = Konaka Pale One
Ranjei Lee = Lingerie Muto
Jet Bar = Tanomusaku Toba

Kenny In Ice Ribbon, Syuri You Can’t Be Serious

January 21, 2011

Normally I would start with the Kenny Omega news but this time the top post priority goes towards another cute Joshi girl I fancy (there’s not a lot of them, I swear!*).

UNION “FORTUNE DEMONS”, 03/02/2011
Shinjuku FACE

1. Ken Ohka Vs LuFisto
2. Shinichiro Tominaga Vs Tigers Mask
3. Cherry & Syuri Vs Seiya Morohashi & Hiro Tsumaki
4. Isami Kodaka & Yano K Data Vs Choun-Shiryu & Cao Zhang
5. TKG48 Vs Revolutionary Armed Forces: Sanshiro Takagi, Atsushi Aoki & Shigehiro Irie Vs Yoshiaki Yago, Kengo Mashimo & Madoka
6. Shuji Ishikawa Vs Tsuyoshi Kikuchi

The relationship between Union and SMASH continues with Tajiri’s promotion sending over their brightest prospect from their women’s division. Syuri began her wrestling career in 2008 as KG the Karate Girl in HUSTLE. When the promotion folded, Syuri had a few Shoot Boxing bouts for the Jewels MMA company before being one of the first names announced to join SMASH. Since its first show Syuri has been the focus for SMASH’s Joshi division. On Union’s 3rd February show, Syuri will be teaming with Union’s queen bee Cherry to take on Seiya Morohashi and Hiro Tsumaki. A little worried about this one to be honest. Seiya’s mental state has been a bit iffy ever since that time he suffered a decapitation during a Muscle House show…

Also announced was a Union Vs New Beijing Tag Team bout between Isami Kodaka & Yano K Data against Choun-Shiryu & Cao Zhang. With Princess Makoto yet to have a match in Union, maybe she will stick her nose in Cherry and Shuri’s business on the night. Meanwhile Isami has mentioned he would like to defend the DDT Extreme Championship against Sanshiro Takagi in a deathmatch sometime in the future.

Ice Ribbon, 19/01/2011
Ice Ribbon School, Saitama

Kenny Omega & Hikari Minami beat Kazuhiro Tamura & Chii Tomiya when Minami submitted Tomiya with a Half Crab (13:21).

Omega sent some comments about his latest appearance in Ice Ribbon over to the Ice Ribbon Europe Facebook page. They can be read by following the link here.

*Alright, alright, alright. Kana, Syuri, Makoto and Ayumi Kurihara. There, are you happy?
