Some of the results from today’s Shin-Kiba 1st RING event has led to the card for next week’s Osaka show being reshuffled. The rivalry brewing between Crying Wolf and certain members of the DDT roster will continue with Yasu Urano facing Masa Takanashi and Daisuke Sasaki taking on the bug brute Yuji Hino. This is all setting up the KO-D Tag Team Title match which is mentioned below. Meanwhile the “First 4 Way Match Of The Year” is now the “First 3 Way Tag Match Of The Year” with Tomomitsu Matsunaga & Takao Soma representing DDT, Antonio Honda & Keita Yano representing Crying Wolf and Michael Nakazawa & Shoichi Uchida representing a DDT and Osaka Pro alliance.

With Daisuke Sasaki scoring the pin on Yasu Urano at Shin-Kiba, he and Masa Takanashi get the first shot at the new KO-D Tag Team Champions.

As the winner of the 2012 New Year Rumble, DJ Nira now has to face Jaki Numazawa from Big Japan. Will his Rocket Punch be able to take down the “Black Angel”?

Sanshiro Takagi’s call for wrestlers wanting to join his new “anti-establishment” unit has been answered by Takao Soma. The two are no strangers to each other as Soma was a part of Takagi’s TKG48 unit.

Homoiro Clover Z is doing pretty well for itself so far. Win or lose, they will still hold possession of the KO-D Openweight Title after the main event. If KUDO beats Danshoku Dino, he will set the record for most KO-D Title defences. However, now that they are being pitted against Crying Wolf a more threatening challenge could be just around the corner for them.

MIKAMI appeared at the show to announce he was having surgery on his right shoulder next month to repair a torn rotator cuff. He will be gone from the ring for at least 6 months.

DJ Nira won a special prize for winning the New Year Rumble. The prize is a match against Big Japan death match wrestler Jaki Numazawa.

Kenny Omega Vs HARASHIMA and Yuji Hino Vs Keisuke Ishii are booked for the 29/01 Korakuen Hall show. Also El Generico will return to DDT for the 11th and 19th February shows in Nagoya and Korakuen.

The special rule for the Hoshitango Vs Poison JULIE Sawada match was that whenever a wrestler was knocked out of the ring, a fan from the audience would be allowed to draw graffiti onto the wrestler’s face, arms or body. Whichever wrestler had the least amount of graffiti on him after the 10 minute time limit would become the winner. Hoshitango just about won the match by having one less piece of graffiti written on his body than Sawada. One of the fans drew the Kinnikuman mark on Hoshitango’s forehead.

Sanshiro Takagi noticed there is a lack of anti-establishment in DDT at the moment. “Too many guys are kissing the ass of Tsurumi Amon,” he said. He will be forming a new unit to cause some trouble and is inviting anyone interested in joining him to face him in a tryout match at the 22/01 Chiba show.

Omega In AJPW: Here Comes A New Challenger!

AJPW World Jr. Heavyweight Title: Kenny Omega (c) Vs Kaz Hayashi

Kenny Omega has a big name in place for his third defence of the AJPW Jr. Heavyweight Title next month. In fact it is the man who holds the most successful Jr. Title reign in All Japan history, Kaz Hayashi! Both champion and challenger met at a press conference where the match was announced for the 2nd February event in Korakuen Hall. Omega was accompanied by Michael Nakazawa but was able to spend a lot of time speaking in Japanese by himself. Kenny explained that Nakazawa was there to make sure no one was taking advantage of him as champion and to protect him from any unprofessional behaviour by the All Japan wrestlers. Kenny also tried to rile up Hayashi by saying the people in charge of All Japan love him because he is a “cool champion”. So much so that Kenny believes they secretly want him to beat Kaz.

“Everybody wants a cool champion,” says Kenny. “Let’s just look at the matches in general. Everyone has to agree that my matches… are always, ALWAYS, not sometimes, the best match not just in All Japan. These are the best Junior matches in all of Japan.”

Some big claims by Omega and he’s ready to back them up when he faces Hayashi next month.

Iron Man Title Tours Osaka Pro

January 5, 2012

For those wondering where the infamous Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title has been for the last couple of weeks, the belt is currently making its way around the Osaka Pro locker room. When we last left the the title, Shigehiro Irie was the champion. He travelled down to the Osaka Minami Move On Arena on 29th December to compete on one of the small weekday Osaka Pro events to face Kanjyuro Matsuyama in the main event. Irie won that match but afterwards was pinned by Matsuyama in a sneak attack, losing the Iron Man Title to the Prima Donna kabuki wrestler.

The very next day, Tigers Mask won the belt by pinning both Matsuyama & Naoki Setoguchi at the same time in a 3 Way Match. The day after that was New Year’s Eve and the title switched hands yet again when Takoyakida defeated Tigers Mask in an impromptu challenge before that day’s show began. New Year’s Day was a break in the daily title changes as Takoyakida was on the winning side of a tag team match. The 2nd January however saw Ebessan defeat Takoyokida in the main event to win both the Iron Man Title and the Osaka Owarai Title. That title reign only lasted three days as Apple Miyuki defeated Ebessan on another weekday show.

Miyuki is still in possession of the belt as of this post and is Iron Man Champion #883. Her next match in Osaka Pro will be against Kushinbo Kamen on the 7th. Osaka Pro are holding 7 more shows until DDT visits Osaka on the 14th so there is a strong chance we will see many more title changes from now until then. However, both shows on the 14th January take place at the same time in different parts of Osaka, so chances of a DDT wrestler bringing the belt home looks slim at the moment.

Thanks to Extreme Party and Osaka Hurricane for the updates.

MIKAMI is now on the injured list with a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder. He will miss the 8th January show in Shin-Kiba and the 14th January show in Osaka at the very least.

Kenny Omega returns to DDT action after a successful 2nd defence of his AJPW Jr. Heavyweight Title over Hiroshi Yamato over in All Japan. He has his sights set on Shigehiro Irie for Osaka but before that, he is teaming with the master of the Rocket Punch, DJ Nira to face HARASHIMA & Gorgeous Matsuno in Shin-Kiba. One could only imagine the destruction that would be caused by a combined Hadouken-Rocket Punch attack

7. DDT Extreme Title – TLC (Tonkachi, Ladders & Chairs): Isami Kodaka defeated El Generico (c) with the Rasengan (19:27).
*El Generico fails in V4. Isami Kodaka becomes the 17th DDT Extreme Champion!

Union had plenty to celebrate at the beginning of 2012 with Isami Kodaka winning back the DDT Extreme Title from El Generico in a Tonkachi, Ladders & Chairs match. After the hard fought match, Isami told Generico how fun it was to beat him in such an extreme battle. He then wished Generico farewell but was interrupted by Ken Ohka. Generico was challenged by Ohka to a match on 10th February, so the Generic Luchador will be sticking around in Union for at least a little while longer. Meanwhile Isami took centre stage and told the fans he now shared a bond with Kengo Mashimo from K-DOJO, KUDO from DDT and Abdullah Kobayashi from Big Japan. They are all champions who love to wrestle for their companies. Generico then congratulated Isami and said he is a true warrior deserving of the championship as the show drew to a close.

The first match for BIG “G” BANG was a rousing success. Shuji Ishikawa & Shigehiro Irie overcame the Strong BJ side of Daisuke Sekimoto & Kazuki Hashimoto. With this victory they gain momentum towards their future challenges.

Sanshiro Takagi & KENSO faced off for the first time since their No Rope Exploding Barbed Wire match at “WRESTLE EXPO 2006”. Takagi teamed with the brand new NWA World Jr. Heavyweight Champion Tsuyoshi Kikuchi to defeat KENSO and Yoshiaki Yago. The aftermath was very eventful as Kikuchi announced he was joining Union as a full-time wrestler. Takagi joked that Kikuchi had been thinking over his decision since last February. Takagi also talked about how he is so busy now that there needs to be a new Sanshiro Takagi to help take some of his workload. Takagi’s music hit and out came Keizo Matsuda of IWA Japan fame dressed as Takagi and performing his signature entrance.

NOSAWA Rongai & Io Shirai made a successful first defence of their Americas Mixed Tag Titles over the tsundere team of Ken Ohka & Mio Shirai. Despite their defeat, Mio admitted that she and Ken were starting to gel as a team. But she was adamant that it doesn’t change the dynamic of their “master and servant” relationship.

Big Morohashi has taken inspiration from the late, great Rick Rude and changed his ring name to Big Rude. After winning the 3 Way Tag match with Masao Orihara, the former Seiya Morohashi told his opponents “If you want to become the world’s best villain, you have to be rude!”

The gratuitous Twitter battle between Hiroshi Fukuda and RG opened the show. RG sang to Fukuda’s mentor and valet Rumi Kazama before the match began but the lyrics were about how overweight she was. Rumi tried to get revenge during the match with a steel chair, but RG ducked and Fukuda took the chairshot instead. As a result of his defeat, Fukuda and all of his 611 followers must now follow RG’s Twitter account.
