Please Welcome Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling

June 4, 2012

Today at a press conference in Shinjuku, Sanshiro Takagi was joined by former NEO president Tetsuya Koda and retired Joshi wrestler NOZAMI (formerly Nozomi Dai) to announce the establishment of Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling.

Sanshiro Takagi told the story of how Tokyo Joshi Pro came to be. When Takashi Dai joined DDT and made his debut back in March, Takagi thought his name sounded familiar. Takagi asked Dai if any of his relatives were involved in wrestling and Takashi said his sister Nozami was a wrestler for NEO but she retired in 2010. From there Takagi made contact with Nozami and also with Tetusya Koda to discuss the possibility of forming a new joshi promotion with some backing from DDT. From there Tokyo Joshi Pro was born.

The aim of Tokyo Joshi Pro is to find and nurture new female wrestlers as well as to create a new joshi culture for them to follow. Koda said that even though he wants to do new things, there are problems that always pop up to prevent anything really new from being created. With DDT, he hopes to avoid those problems and is eager to discover new talent.

Takagi mentioned that all trainees will be following the “Forbidden Three” rule. That means all trainees are forbidden from having three things: men, liquor and tobacco. These rules have been used ever since the days of All Japan Women’s Pro Wrestling. Takagi said he wants to have a professional attitude going into this and denies that anyone caught breaking the rules will be immediately dismissed, as was the case in past promotions. However, this is going to be different from DDT and the rules are set up to protect the wrestlers. They expect good morals to be on show from the new roster.

The schedule for shows has not been set up at the moment. Right now they are focusing on finding new talent and rookies to fill up the roster before holding their first show. In order to avoid conflict with the “Forbidden Three”, training is being done in a separate location away from the DDT School. In preparation for the new promotion, NOZOMI will make her return to the ring for the first time in almost two years on 17th June to compete for Union in Kitizawa. She does not see this as her return but as the re-debut of NOZOMI.
