A big challenge for Shuji Ishikawa in the main event but one that could send shockwaves over the Japanese wrestling scene if he defeats Manabu Nakanishi.

The Captain’s Fall Six Man Tag will be Kim Nun Pun’s first defence of the DDT Extreme Championship. I’m not entirely sure if the title is awarded to whoever gets the fall over Pun or if it is just captain Isami Kodaka who becomes champion if his team wins. Yano K Data is Keita Yano in Joker make up for those of you who need reminding.

Cao Zhang and Princess Makoto are the Chinese wrestlers who requested to compete in Union after meeting Chou-un Shiryu. Cao is said to have trained at a wrestling dojo that has been in existence since the Han Dynasty (206 BCE – 220 CE) and is also said to be a descendant of the warlord Cao Cao. Princess Makoto is part of New Beijing’s Diva division.

Let’s see how El Generico fares with the Union fanbase. A win against the debuting Shinichiro Tominaga is certain. Either way it will be great to see El Generico wrestling in Japan again.

TKG48 began its rampage of Union during the week but the next line of defence put up against them is a tough one. Should be a great match between Sanshiro Takagi & Munenori Sawa against Kengo Mashimo & Madoka.

Ken Ohka will return after a seven month absence nursing a fractured left knee. There to meet him in his first match back will be former NOAH wrestler Tsuyoshi Kikuchi who has had brief appearances for DDT and Union the last couple of months.

Nori da Funky Shibire-sasu (Real name Satoru Takahashi) is a member of the Hip Hop group nobodyknows+. He has been in a wrestling match before, making his debut on 5th May, 2010.

Congratulations go out to the Golden Lovers for winning the Best Bout category in the 2010 Tokyo Sports Awards. Their match with Apollo 55 at NJPW “DESTRUCTION ’10” won by a pretty big margin and caps off a Dramatic year for the BFFs Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega. Next they will look forward to clashing with Gedo & Jado on the day after Christmas (Boxing Day, St. Stephen’s Day, etc) in order to survive 2010 as IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champions.

Hikaru Sato is set to pack his bags and head off to Germany in January to compete in the WXW “AMBITION 2” tournament. The first “AMBITION” tournament, won by Bryan Danielson (or as he is now known in another Universe, Daniel Bryan), caught attention from wrestling fans for featuring a more hybrid shoot fighting style of wrestling in its matches. It is a style that Sato is more than familiar with and he will surely become one of the favourites to win the tournament when the entire lineup is announced.

We’re Back (A Dinosaur’s Story) – DDT December Schedule

Holiday’s over with, I’m almost snowed in and I have some catching up to do. The results for the recent DDT and Union shows are posted and now I move onto the schedule for the rest of the month. We have DDT going on a shopping spree, a trip to Hakata Star Lane, the monthly dose of Young Communications, a brief stop in Ushiku Sports Park and then finish off the final week with a big show in Korakuen Hall followed by an even bigger party held on the final day of 2010.

Yago, Isami, Dino & HARASHIMA Go Round The Indys

November 24, 2010

There has been some DDT and Union involvement in other promotions this month. Over in SMASH, Yoshiaki Yago was defeated by Akira Shoji while Isami Kodaka fought on the winning team in the semi-main event. A day earlier, Danshoku Dino made an appearance for the NEO Joshi promotion and defeated 5-Time former Ironman Heavymetalweight Champion, Tanny Mouse. Finally HARASHIMA was in Big Japan earlier in the month to take on Shinya Ishikawa in Shinya’s return match from injury. HARASHIMA earned the victory with the always reliable Somato.

R.I.P. Gran Naniwa

November 21, 2010

It is with much sadness to report the death of Yoshikimi Kimura, who was known to many wrestling fans as Gran Naniwa of Michinoku Pro fame. Gran Naniwa passed away at the age of 34 due to a myocardial blockage on October 6th.

One of his last known matches took place in DDT on 27th September 2009, where Naniwa teamed with Gran Hamada & Michael ‘Gran’ Nakazawa in a losing effort against Choun Shiryu, Poison Sawada JULIE & Tanomusaku Toba.

New Year’s Eve Indy Celebration Card

November 21, 2010

DDT will be part of the big indy wrestling get together at Korakuen Hall for New Year’s Eve. Last year’s event was remembered for the 108-Man Battle Royal that begun in 2009 and ended in 2010 plus matches presented by each promotion involved. This time around there will be an inter-promotional, inter-gender one night tournament featuring Sanshiro Takagi, TAKA Michinoku (K-Dojo), Great Kojika (Big Japan), Takashi Sasaki (Freedoms), Yuki Ishikawa (BattlArts), Guts Ishijima (GUTS World), Command Bolshoi (JWP) and Kana (Triple Tails). Every match in the tournament will have a three minute time limit so every contender will have to be on their toes from the second the bell rings.

The main event will be another large Battle Royal, this time a 30 Organisation Battle Royal. I guess this means there are only 30 participants involved with one wrestler representing each promotion, but you never know with this bunch running the show. Now would be a good time to brush up your knowledge on the Japanese indy scene over at the Puroresu Central website.

DDT In NEVER.4, HMV, Union News

November 19, 2010

DDT had three wrestlers involved in the latest NEVER event from New Japan. Keisuke Ishii now has two wins in two appearances for the brand, defeating Hiromu Takahashi with the Kneel Kick. Daisuke Sasaki however is at two losses in two appearances when he was defeated by Tomohiro Ishii. Finally Antonio Honda was involved in the match that attracted the most attention, losing to the returning Hiroyoshi Tenzan.

NJPW “NEVER.4”, 11/18/10

Sanshiro Takagi, Toru Owashi & DJ Nira are now a faction. The new stable is called HMV, which stands for Hagure Metal Vampire.

On the Union side of things, the brand is looking for foreign wrestlers who are interested in working for the promotion. Those interested can find the contact information over at the Union website.

Isami Kodaka will be in the semi-main event of SMASH.10. He will be feeling right at home by taking part in a Hardcore 6-Man Tag Team match with KUSHIDA & Super Crazy versus the Fight Club Finland trio of Hajime Ohara, Häijy-Heimo Ukonselkä & Jessica Love.

Cherry will be promoting her fourth Fantasy Illusion show on the 23rd December with the main event being an hour long Ironman match between herself and Yuki Miyazaki from the NEO promotion. This match comes just over a week before Miyazaki’s retirement from wrestling.

This is the final set of matches in the Young Drama Cup before the grand final. The top two wrestlers in the Young Drama Cup go through to the final. I think DDT is using the “direct confrontation” rule where if there is a tie between two wrestlers, the result from their previous tournament match decides who finishes on top. If that is the case then Shigehiro Irie has already qualified for the final and Takao Soma Vs Keisuke Ishii will be for the other spot. However a draw between Soma and Ishii will mean both wrestlers qualify for the final and their rematch will be for the Cup. To use a rugby term, Rion Mizuki and Kazuki Hirata are fighting over who gets the Wooden Spoon.

Yasu Urano Strikes It Big In K-DOJO

November 10, 2010

Yasu Urano won some gold over in his old stomping ground of K-DOJO today, winning the UWA Middleweight Championship from Kaji Tomato in the main event of the promotion’s Shin-Kiba 1st RING show. This is Urano’s second reign as champion, his first run taking place in May 2003. This title win comes after his run in the NOAH NTV Cup Jr. Heavyweight Tag League, where Yasu & Dick Togo missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals.
