Another year has come and gone as several Japanese wrestling companies joined together for the annual New Year’s Eve Wrestling show at Korakuen Hall. This year’s selling point was a one night tournament featuring wrestlers from DDT, Big Japan and K-DOJO. Each match that ended in a 10 minute time limit would go into sudden death where pinfalls only had to last a second for the match to declare a winner. HARASHIMA ended a strong year for himself by winning the tournament, defeating KAZMA SAKAMOTO, Yasu Urano, Shiori Asahi and finally Kengo Mashimo throughout the night. Abdullah Kobayashi made an appearance and congratulated HARASHIMA for winning. He joked “I’m the next challenger!” He then said he will wait until the summer for his return from illness.

Danshoku Dino provided a change of pace with an “Insanely Funny Game” Battle Royal. He had invited Sanshiro Takagi, Amon TsurumiEiji TosakaNikkan Lee, TAKA Michinoku and Tank Nagai down to ringside for a challenge. Takagi, TAKA and Tosaka had to sit down at ringside while Tsurumi, Nagai and Lee had to stand beside them with their mouths full of milk. It was up to Tsurumi, Nagai and Lee not to laugh and spit out milk onto the people sitting beside them. Needless to say, there milk was everywhere by the end as all of the different wrestlers in the match did what they could to make the milk drinkers laugh. Nagai still had some milk left in his mouth when the match was over. Dino asked him if he “liked TAKA’s milk?” and Nagai spat it out in laughter.

During the show, Samurai! TV announced their Occupation Of The Indies Awards for 2013. Isami Kodaka was the big winner, grabbing the MVP Award, Best Match Award with Shuji Ishikawa in Big Japan and Best Tag Team Award with Yuko Miyamoto. Kodaka beat out Kota Ibushi and Daisuke Sekimoto to win the MVP Award. DDT won the Best Event Award for “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2013”. Sanshiro Takagi was in the middle of having a shower during the ceremony and accepted the award with just a towel around his waist. He said he will continue to dominate that award every year. Masaya Takahashi from Wrestling New Classic was Best Rookie. He was surprised to win it so suddenly.

A one night tournament is the main focus of the annual New Year’s Eve super show. Five wrestlers from DDT, five from Big Japan and five from K-DOJO fill up the brackets. The final spot will be awarded to the winner of a mini tournament dedicated to the younger wrestlers. The Young Tournament will consist of two matches to be held in K-DOJO on 30/11. The matches will be Tetsuya Endo Vs Hiroshi Fukuda and Kazuki Hashimoto Vs Tank Nagai. The final will take place in DDT the next day. Yuji Hino was originally entered into the tournament but he has pulled out since he is still recovering from elbow surgery and will not be ready in time. Kaji Tomato takes his place.

The early rounds up until the quarter final will all have a ten minute time limit. The semi finals will have a 15 minute time limit and the pairings will be decided by a lottery. Sudden Death will be used for time limit draws. Wrestlers only need to pin their opponent for one second to win during Sudden Death. These rules were used by K-DOJO for a tournament they held earlier this year. The final will have no time limit.

G1 Climax – Block B: Kota Ibushi [8] defeated Hiroyoshi Tenzan [6] by forfeit.
Special 6 Man Tag Match: Kazushi Sakuraba, Akebono & Kota Ibushi defeated Takashi Iizuka, Tomohiro Ishii & YOSHI-HASHI when Sakuraba submitted YOSHI-HASHI with the Sakuraba Lock (13:25).

Kota Ibushi has completed the busiest two weeks of his life and came out of it with a wealth of new opportunities. His first set of matches as a heavyweight in the famous G1 Climax tournament won him plenty of praise as well as a few matches. Ibushi started off as strong as possible, winning his first three matches against Toru Yano, the eventual G1 winner Tetsuya Naito and Karl Anderson. But his run ended there as he lost the next five against Shinsuke Nakamura, Yuji Nagata, Shelton Benjamin, Yujiro Takahashi and Minoru Suzuki. His final match against Hiroyoshi Tenzan was cancelled when Tenzan suffered an injury halfway through the tournament. Instead, Ibushi spent the final night teaming with MMA legend Kazushi Sakuraba and Ribera’s favourite son Akebono, forming possibly the weirdest 3-man team in Japan since the days of WAR. And he probably got a future match against Tomohiro Ishii out of it. Ibushi ended the tournament with 8 points and although he didn’t qualify for the final, he proved he can go with some of the best New Japan has to offer. Next up… Kazuchika Okada!

1. 3 Way Tag Team Match: Antonio Honda & Daisuke Sasaki defeated Kushinbo Kamen & Michael Nakazawa and Masa Takanashi & Akito when Sasaki pinned Nakazawa with the Now Or Never (6:26).
2. Hikaru Sato defeated Tetsuya Endo with a Boston Crab (6:59).
3. King Of DDT Semi Final: Kenny Omega defeated Yukio Sakaguchi with the Croyt’s Wrath (9:59).
4. King Of DDT Semi Final: HARASHIMA defeated Konosuke Takeshita with the Somato (10:09).
5. Kota Ibushi & DJ Nira defeated Danshoku Dino & Makoto Oishi when Ibushi pinned Oishi with the Osaka Muscle Sakai Last Ride (10:07).
6. Shigehiro Irie, Keisuke Ishii & Takao Soma defeated KUDO, Yasu Urano & FUMA when Irie pinned FUMA with the Flying Sausage (13:11).
7. King Of DDT Final: HARASHIMA defeated Kenny Omega with the Swan Dive Somato (15:20).

HARASHIMA wins the 2013 King of DDT and will challenge for the KO-D Openweight Title in the co-main event of “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2013”. It took two Somatos and a Swan Dive Somato for HARASHIMA to beat Kenny Omega in the final. HARASHIMA defeated the rookie phenom Konosuke Takeshita in the semi-final while Omega took care of Yukio Sakaguchi. Now we to see who the champion will be, Shigehiro Irie or Yuji Okabayashi?

The “super important” announcement was the reveal of Kazuchika Okada competing at “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2013”. But that’s not all, it was announced Okada will take on Kota Ibushi in the co-main event! Ibushi thanked the crowd for the support they will give him in the upcoming G1 Climax and he promised he will do his best against the Rainmaker.

Danshoku Dino & Makoto Oishi announced that Kensuke Sasaki will be the third member of their team when they challenge the Monster Army for the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles on 21/7. GM Tsurumi Amon was completely unaware of this and now has to contact Sasaki and negotiate with him to actually appear at the show.

Antonio Honda and Daisuke Sasaki both wrestled in Kushinbo Kamen costumes along with the gear they stole from Masa Takanashi & Akito. I guess they are Kamen’s spare costumes and the Monster Army stole them too.

7. KO-D Openweight Title: Shigehiro Irie (c) defeated Sanshiro Takagi with the Vertical Drop Back Flip (14:18).
*V7 for Shigehiro Irie.

The Shigehiro Irie title reign rolls on after an emotional challenge from his mentor Sanshiro Takagi. It’s daunting enough to take on your teacher, but for him to name a new finishing move after your favourite AV idol just to play mind games? That takes things to another level. But Irie was able for the task and defeated Takagi to score a seventh KO-D Title defence. Both men were in tears after the match and Irie thanked Takagi for helping him become stronger in his hometown.

Takagi suffered a whiplash from a Fire Thunder Driver just before the end of the match.

The King of DDT 2nd Round provided the other big stories today. Kenny Omega defeated Daisuke Sasaki in the first match. Omega praised Sasaki afterwards for his growth as a good wrestler. Yukio Sakaguchi countered Antonio Honda’s Anaconda Vice into a Reverse Cross Armbreaker to grab the submission victory. Sakaguchi called Honda a formidable opponent and he is now confident he can win the tournament in his first try. HARASHIMA went through another hard fought battle with Hikaru Sato and won with the Swan Dive Somato.

The big surprise of the tournament has been Konosuke Takeshita. The rookie who hasn’t even had a full year in DDT is now two matches away from a main event title match at Sumo Hall. Takeshita defeated Yasu Urano and left a message that his Touchdown finisher can defeat anyone. Urano said his loss was embarrassing and a mistake.

With the 2nd Round over, the Semi-Final draw took place. The results is HARASHIMA Vs Takeshita and Omega Vs Sakaguchi taking place in Osaka tomorrow along with the big final.

Michael Nakazawa set up the NAKAZA-1 CLIMAX for some of the King of DDT 1st Round losers to compete in. Kota Ibushi won the Battle Royal and the prize was an immediate match against Nakazawa. Ibushi easily beat him in under a minute.

7. King Of DDT 2012 – Final: Kenny Omega defeated Danshoku Dino with the One-Winged Angel (20:18).

Kenny Omega is your King Of DDT for 2012! Omega survived two hard fought battles with HARASHIMA and Danshoku Dino to win the tournament and earn the big prize of a spot in the main event of Budokan Hall next month. What is even more exciting is that Omega’s match will be against his B.F.F. Kota Ibushi for the KO-D Title. It will be their first singles match against each other since 2008. The only thing that can ruin this now is DJ Nira cashing in his “Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere” contract and somehow beating Ibushi (or Low-Ki being a prick and injuring Ibushi during their upcoming New Japan match, which is more likely).

During Kenny’s victory speech, he said that even thought not everyboy are fans of him, they are all fans of DDT. There are people in Osaka that are DDT fans. There are people in Japan that are DDT fans. There are even people worldwide that are fans of DDT. Kenny promised that he will bring his best performance for his match against Ibushi and that match will be the best performance of the Golden Lovers.

Ibushi responded by saying he had mixed feelings about now having to face Omega. He is glad that Omega won but there will now be tension building between the two the closer they get to the big show. He has exceptional respect for Kenny’s ability and he nows how dangerous he can be. Ibushi feels the pressure but he is also looking forward to the match and promises it will be great.

The semi-finals began with Omega defeating HARASHIMA. The former KO-D Champion expressed disappointment and frustration that he was now unable to compete in the Budokan Hall main event. He also praised Kenny for his strength. Danshoku Dino beat KUDO in devastating fashion with the brand new Danshoku Drivaaaaahhhhh!!!!!, the top rope Danshoku Driver that spikes the opponent’s head into the top turnbuckle. When KUDO recovered he was also disappointed in losing. However, he had no regrets an was impressed with Dino for twice creating a new move in order to beat him in the last year. He is also looking forward to new challenges including those that involve his KO-D Tag Title run with Makoto Oishi.

The show began with Yasu Urano, Antonio Honda, Masa Takanashi & Daisuke Sasaki all entering the ring to announce the formation of a new unit. They along with Hoshitango and Yuji Hino were now known as the Monster Army (no, not the one from HUSTLE). To show their unity and sudden rise of power, the Monster Army demanded that the 4 Way Tag Team match be changed into an 8-Man Tag Team Elimination match. Tsurumi Amon was confused by the sudden change of events but reluctantly gave in and made the match. Unfortunately for the Monster Army, theit first match ended in failure thanks to Keisuke Ishii & Shigehiro Irie. Although the Army were able to eliminate Tomomitsu Matsunaga & Tetsuya Endo to create a 4-on-2 advantage, Ishii & Irie defeated the entire side one after the other until they were the only ones left standing.

DDT announced the debut of another new rookie wrestler. Konosuke Takeshita is from Osaka, 186cm high and weighs 85kg. He and Ishii had an in-ring demonstration before Amon revealed that his debut match will be at the Budokan against El Generico. When asked to give comment, Takeshita said “I think this company is crazy, as expected.”

DJ Nira and Hideki Shiota fought each other for the brand new Osaka Omoroi Gate Title. The physical belt does not exist yet so Tsurumi Amon had to hold up and invisible belt as part of the usual pre-match championship presentation. The title would be won by the wrestler that was more interesting and entertaining during the match. However, Amon kept yelling at both competitors for being too boring as they fought each other. Shiota eventually won the match but the title wound up being vacated and disposed of because it wasn’t interesting enough.

KUDO has won the King Of DDT tournament and will face the KO-D Openweight Champion at the main event of Sumo Hall on 24th July. KUDO and HARASHIMA battled long and hard for 18 minutes in the main event. In the end, it was KUDO who was left standing tall. Now he has the KO-D Openweight Title in his sights. Will Shuji Ishikawa still be champion by the time Sumo Hall comes or will either GENTARO or Takao Soma take his place?

KUDO’s trip to the final involved getting past Kenny Omega. He survived a Power Bomb into the turnbuckle aswell as a Thunder Fire Power Bomb and was able to avoid the Croyt’s Wrath. Omega attempted an Avalanche version of his finisher but KUDO escaped and trapped Kenny’s legs in the ropes, leaving him hanging in the air. KUDO then jumped onto him with a Diving Knee Drop. He drilled Kenny with Buzzsaw Kicks and despite a scare involving the Hadouken and a Backslide Pin, KUDO finally put Omega away with another combo of Buzzsaw Kicks.

HARASHIMA had a brick wall called Shigehiro Irie standing in his way. Irie hoped to beat HARASHIMA like he did Kota Ibushi and tried to end the match quickly with a barrage of Elbow Smashes. The plan didn’t work and HARASHIMA ended Irie’s chance to win the tournament. It took a few High Kicks to keep Irie off his feet but HARASHIMA was able to knock him down and then knock him out with the Somato.

Danshoku Dino was finally defeated by one of Bob Sapp’s Assassins. This time the assassin was Gaylon Summers, the American wrestler who has had a few Union appearances this year. Gaylon won with a modified version of the Choke Slam. This being a Danshoku Dino match, you can pretty much guess the modified move was a Crotch Slam. Dino was very upset after the match. His dream is to fight Bob Sapp but he cannot do it if he loses to Sapp’s assassins. Bob Sapp sent a tweet saying if Dino cannot fight him at Sumo Hall, then Gaylon Summers will take his place. Angry at the news, Dino suddenly kissed Gaylon and gave him the Danshoku Driver.

The winner of the Kyoto Royal Rumble would get to ask Tsurumi Amon for whatever they wanted. When Michael Nakazawa won the match, he asked Amon for a title shot. His request was denied for now and he was given a match for 4th June instead. If he wins, Tsurumi may give Michael what he wants.
