Iron Man Title Hijacked And Bolivia Bound!

July 12, 2012

The unpredictable nature of the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title has struck again! During today’s press conference announcing the remaining card for the DDT 15th Anniversary Show, champion Choun-Shiryu made an appearance to be interviewed about the title being defended in a Royal Rumble match at the show. The interview was disrupted when an anonymous note was passed over to Tsurumi Amon. The note said:

Hello DDT Pro Wrestling,

Today I heard there is an open press conference for DDT. I will take the Iron Man belt from you. Thank you in the future.

SATO

Amon sat there wondering which Sato wrote the letter. Was it Hikaru Sato? Was it Akio Sato from the Orient Express? If it was Akio, does that mean he was sending Hakushi after the champion? All of a sudden, a voice interrupted his train of thought.

“Please excuse me.”

It was independant wrestler Yuki Sato. He entered the room and admitted the letter was from him. Sato told Shiryu that he wanted the title. Shiryu stood up to face him but Sato told him his shoelaces were untied. When Shiryu bend down to tie his shoes, Sato grabbed an object and whacked the champion over the head with it. Sato then pinned Shiryu and officially became the 922nd champion.

Sato then suddenly said he was taking the belt with him to Bolivia, where he was going to defend the belt against none other than Dick Togo!

Tsurumi Amon was shocked but quickly came up with a plan. If no one can get the belt back before the 15th Anniversary Show, then the winner of the Royal Rumble at the event will be declared the No. 1 Contender for the championship. The winner will then be sent to Bolivia (at their own expense) to challenge the champion, no matter who it is.

Interviews: Kenny Omega, Dick Togo

November 3, 2011

There are two pretty good interviews that appeared online today. Kenny Omega is this week’s guest on the Art Of Wrestling podcast, hosted by the one and only Colt Cabana. The episode can be heard over at We Love Colt website and will also be available on iTunes tonight.

The other interview features Dick Togo and it was filmed during his recent trip to England. Togo talks about his retirement show in Japan, his time wrestling in Australia and Europe afterwards, his match with Fit Finlay and more. Unfortunately there is some heavy background noise at parts of the interview but hopefully it will not distract you too much. The interview is split into 4 videos and was done in Japanese but there is the option of English subtitles if you click on the CC section of each video. Credit goes to YujinWrestling for the interview. Enjoy.

Dick Togo American Vacation, Hard Hit Card

October 28, 2011

“THE INDIE SUMMIT 2011”, 03/12/2011
Asylum Arena, Philadelphia, USA

1. Yoshihito Sasaki Vs Sami Callihan
2. Dick Togo Vs KUDO
3. Jun Kasai & Jaki Numazawa Vs Ryuji Ito & Danny Havoc

Some matches have finally been announced for The Indie Summit 2011, a joint show produced by Combat Zone Wrestling featuring Japanese wrestlers from DDT, Big Japan, Freedoms and K-DOJO. Dick Togo will also be involved as his global retirement tour stops by the United States during December. Togo returns to the infamous Asylum Arena for the first time since the Chikara King Of Trios weekend back in April. KUDO will be one of DDT’s representatives, the most important one if he is still the KO-D Openweight Champion by the time the show takes place, and will be the one facing Togo in the former ECW Arena. Danshoku Dino is the only other DDT wrestler confirmed for the show so far. Kengo Mashimo from K-DOJO and Takashi Sasaki & Kamui from Freedoms will also be wrestling at the show.

PWG “FEAR”, 10/12/2011
American Legion Post #308, California, USA

El Generico Vs Dick Togo

One week later, Dick Togo will travel to Reseda, California for a highly anticipated Pro Wrestling Guerrilla event. While all the attention for this show is on the return of Super Dragon, the big highlight of the undercard is Togo’s clash with the current DDT Extreme Champion, El Generico.

Hard Hit “ATLANTIS”, 13/11/2011
Shin-Kiba 1st RING

1. Kazuki Hirata Vs Hiroshi Fukuda
2. Tanomusaku Toba Vs Kotaro Nasu
3. Isami Kodaka Vs Ryuichi Sekine
4. Madoka Vs Kengo Mashimo
5. Shuji Ishikawa Vs Takaku Fuke
6. KUDO & Kenny Omega Vs HARASHIMA & Mitsuya Nagai
7. Hikaru Sato Vs Daisuke Sekimoto

Hard Hit evens sort of lean more towards the kind of wrestling matches you would find in old shoot-style promotions such as UWF-I. Hard Hit matches can be won via pinfall, submission, knockout, disqualification and count out. There is also a points system in place that can determine when matches can end by TKO. In singles matches both wrestlers begin the match with 5 points each. For tag team bouts both teams start off with 8 points each. A wrestler loses a point when he is knocked down or uses a rope break. He also loses a point if he is called for a foul more than once. When a wrestler’s points tally reaches zero, he automatically loses the fight by TKO.

Sanshiro Takagi bowed to Togo, handed over a giant bouquet of flowers and was given the Pedigree one last time. He hopes to see them again when he finishes his tour of the world. After that, Togo thanked the audience and the show ended.

Dick Togo will spend one more year wrestling around the world before he retires for good. But for now, his wrestling career in Japan is over.

*V1 for Shuji Ishikawa.
7. KO-D Openweight Title: Shuji Ishikawa (c) defeated Takao Soma with the Splash Mountain (13:59).
*V2 for Shuji Ishikawa.

DDT now has their main event set for their biggest show of the year. Shuji Ishikawa successfully defended the KO-D Openweight Title not once, but twice on one of the final stops on the road to Sumo Hall. Ishikawa defeated both GENTARO and Takao Soma back-to-back to earn his first two title defences. Now he will face KUDO, who has been on a roll since winning the “King Of DDT”. At the end of the show, the DDT locker room joined KUDO in the ring and put him through a trial by fire to get him ready for Sumo Hall. One by one, the DDT wrestlers each gave KUDO one of their trademark moves in the hopes that they transfer their strength to him. However when Danshoku Dino was about to give KUDO the Danshoku Driver, Shuji Ishikawa booted him in the head and gave KUDO the Splash Mountain instead. Shuji yelled at KUDO and said that he will beat him at Sumo Hall.

The Shit Heart ♥ Foundation is going through some changes. Due to Takao Soma’s failure to capitalize his golden opportunity of beating a weakened Shuji Ishikawa and become KO-D Champion, Tomomitsu Matsunaga & Super Shit Machine took matters into their own hands and kicked Soma out of the group. Matsunaga then announced that the SHF has joined forces with the Susan Guard from Union. The new unit is now called the Susan Shit Heart Superstars!

The unlikely team of Kenny Omega & Michael Nakazawa surprised everyone by winning the KO-D Tag Team Championships! The TKG48 duo of Munenori Sawa & Shigehiro Irie only had the belts for 15 days until they lost it in their first defence. HARASHIMA & HERO! came out to challenge the new champs. Omega accepted and planned out a special show at Shin-Kiba 1st RING on the 24th June. At this event will be just one match, and that match will be Omega & Nakazawa Vs HARASHIMA & HERO! for the KO-D Tag Titles! Omega then told everyone that he sees Nakazawa’s true potential and he just wants to help his friend.

Only a few more days until Dick Togo calls an end to his illustrious career in Japan. He had his final match for DDT today, teaming with Antonio Honda to defeat Yasu Urano & Daisuke Sasaki. The day before, Togo showed up at the K-DOJO show at Korakuen Hall for one last Kaientai*DX reunion where he again won the match for his team with the deadly Diving Senton.

It was announced that Kota Ibushi will have his first defence of the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title against Prince Devitt on 27th August at Sumo Hall.

The final Assassin sent from Bob Sapp to fight Danshoku Dino was Canadian indy wrestler Sexxxy Eddy. Before the match began, Eddy told the crowd that he always has the most beautiful woman in the arena strip him of his clothes. So he brought out Emi Sakura and performed a striptease for her. Dino was able to overcome this last obstacle and is now qualified to fight Bob Sapp at Sumo Hall. That was not the end of the night for Sexxxy Eddy, however. He briefly won the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title from Masa Takanashi and then lost it to Keisuke Ishii.

The Special Dark Match between Gorgeous Matsuno and DJ Nira was interrupted by the announcement of DDT’s next “Anywhere Pro Wrestling” event taking place on 2nd July. The show is titled “Luggage Material Wrestling”. The match still went on while Tsurumi Amon was making the announcement and continued when he was finished. However, the match ran out of time just when DJ Nira hit the Rocket Punch on Matsuno.

Here is the card for Sumo Hall so far:

2. MIKAMI defeated DJ Nira with a School Boy (0:04).
2a. MIKAMI defeated DJ Nira with a School Boy (0:04).
2b. MIKAMI defeated DJ Nira with the Volcanic Bomb (6:03).
3. Takao Soma & Tomomitsu Matsunaga defeated HARASHIMA & Michael Nakazawa when Soma pinned Nakazawa with the Diving Guillotine Drop (10:40).
4. KUDO & Makoto Oishi defeated Antonio Honda & Daisuke Sasaki when KUDO pinned Honda with the Buzzsaw Kick (10:55).

6. Dick Togo, GENTARO & Yasu Urano defeated Kota Ibushi, Kenny Omega & Keisuke Ishii when Togo pinned Ishii with the Diving Senton (17:22).

Dick Togo gave his thanks to those in attendence. He told a story about the Odate Citizen Gymnasium being the building where he saw his first live wrestling event. He was very happy to perform there one last time before he retires.

A bouquet of flowers were given to The Great Sasuke before his match, but Danshoku Dino grabbed them off him and threw them to the floor in an act of jealousy. Late in the match, Sanshiro Takagi had Sasuke in a Full Nelson. Dino saw his chance to take advantage and he pulled down Sasuke’s trunks. He was shocked to discover that Sasuke wears the same kind of rainbow colored thong that he does! Sasuke broke free and stunned Dino with a big kiss. He did the same to Takagi and then gave him the Danshoku Driver to win the match!

HARASHIMA & Michael Nakazawa joined forces to fight the Shit Heart ♥ Foundation. However, while HARASHIMA was a lot to handle for Takao Soma & Tomomitsu Matsunaga, Nakazawa didn’t pose as much of a threat. During the match, Matsunaga and Nakazawa fought in the stands and up to an empty section of the arena. Matsunaga got the upper hand and threw Nakazawa from the balcony to the floor. It wasn’t that much of a big drop though.

DJ Nira told MIKAMI before their match that he was a stronghold that could not be destroyed and he was ready to start the battle. Then MIKAMI instantly pinned him with a School Boy. Nira challenged him to an immediate rematch. So MIKAMI instantly pinned him with the School Boy again. Nira challenged for one more rematch and this time he avoided the School Boy. Unfortunately for him, MIKAMI survived his never lethal Rocket Punch and brought out a ladder so he could win with the Volcanic Bomb.

2. Takagi Genjin & Tsubo Genjin Vs Jinsei Shinzaki & Kesen Numajiro
3. Tag Team Gauntlet: MEN’s Teioh & HANZO Vs GENTARO & Yasu Urano Vs Danshoku Dino & Kota Ibushi Vs KUDO & Masa Takanashi Vs HARASHIMA & Hoshitango Vs Shuji Ishikawa & Seiya Morohashi Vs X

5. Antonio Honda & Jado Vs The Great Sasuke & TAKA Michinoku

The latest additions to the card are a Six-Man Tag match featuring Ikuto Hidaka from ZERO1, Tomohiro Ishii from New Japan, Kaz Hayashi from All Japan and former WWE Superstar FUNAKI along with Daisuke Sasaki and Yuki Sato filling up the gaps.

The Tag Team Gauntlet is sure to have some highlights. MEN’s Teioh finds his place on the card teaming with a ninja spirit that goes by the name of HANZO while DDT and Union teams make up the rest of the contestants although there may be one or two more teams added on the night.

UNION “NIMOMAKEZU RAIN”, 02/06/2011
Shinjuku FACE

1. Hiroya Fukuda Vs Shigehiro Irie
2. Ken Ohka & Cherry Vs Mio Shirai & Io Shirai
3. Shuji Ishikawa & Shinichiro Tominaga Vs El Generico & Yano K Data
4. Tsuyoshi Kikuchi Vs Genichiro Tenryu
5. Dick Togo & Yasu Urano Vs Big Morohashi & Hiro Tsumaki
6. DDT Extreme Title: Isami Kodaka (c) Vs MIKAMI

Seiya Morohashi will officially change his ring name to Big Morohashi on this show.

Shinichiro Tominaga and El Generico will cross paths once again, this time in a tag match. Generico and his partner for the night Yano K Data can make a big splash by grabbing the win over the KO-D Champion, Shuji Ishikawa.

Two thirds of the Triple Tails joshi faction will show up on the show. The Shirai Sisters will take on Cherry and Ken Ohka. The last time Mio Shirai & Io Shirai were in a DDT/Union ring was during last year’s Beer Garden Pro Wrestling shows. It wasn’t a pleasant experience when they fought Kenny Omega & Michael Nakazawa in a match where the losers had to strip naked. Nakazawa cheated to win but the Shirai Sisters decided to strip him of his dignity instead. Like I said, not pleasant.

Togo’s Final DDT Match, Union To Get A Lot Of People

May 16, 2011

DDT “WHAT ARE YOU DOING 2011”, 19/06/2011
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

0. Dark Match: Gorgeous Matsuno Vs DJ Nira
1. Masa Takanashi Comeback – Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title: Masa Takanashi (c) Vs Keisuke Ishii
2. Dick Togo DDT Last Match: Dick Togo & Antonio Honda Vs Yasu Urano & Daisuke Sasaki
3. KO-D Openweight Title: Shuji Ishikawa (c) Vs GENTARO
4. KO-D Openweight Title: Shuji Ishikawa or GENTARO (c) Vs Takao Soma

Dick Togo will make his final appearance for DDT on this show before his retirement. He will team with Antonio Honda to face Yasu Urano & Daisuke Sasaki. Togo has connections with all three wrestlers, teaming with Honda and Sasaki when they were part of the Italian 4 Horsemen. He is also currently sided with Urano as part of the GRANMA stable.

UNION “I’LL GET A LOT OF PEOPLE IN TOYAMA 2011”, 05/06/2011
Tomiyama Takaoka Ekuru

1. Shinichiro Tominaga Vs Hiroya Fukuda
2. Seiya Morohashi & Hiroyo Matsumoto Vs Cherry & Hiro Tsumaki
3. Triple Threat: Isami Kodaka Vs El Generico Vs Cao Zhung (w/ Princess Makoto)
4. SS Susan Vs TKG48: Yoshiaki Yago, Kengo Ohka & Madoka Vs Sanshiro Takagi, X & X
5. Shuji Ishikawa Vs Ken Ohka

On paper this sounds like a one-sided main event, and it probably will be. But you can’t fault Ken Ohka’s enthusiasm when facing against far more established wrestlers. There is a history of Ohka being jealous of Shuji Ishikawa being the ace of Union. Many end of show speeches in the ring have seen Ohka trying to blindside Shuji, only to be swatted away like a bug.

Sanshiro Takagi has promised to team with two “elite” members of the TKG48. Will we see some new additions to the supergroup?

El Generico returns to Union after his impressive victory over Shinichiro Tominaga at “1…2…3…UNION!” back in January. This time he sticks his head into the feud between Isami Kodaka and Cao Zhang for a Triple Threat match.

There will be one more match taking place on the show featuring DDT wrestlers. The participants will be announced soon.

7. KO-D Openweight Title: Shuji Ishikawa defeated Dick Togo (c) with the Cross-Arm Splash Mountain (31:18).
*Togo fails in V3. Ishikawa becomes the 36th Champion!

It really did turn out to be a big day for Shuji Ishikawa. He now reigns supreme as the new KO-D Openweight Champion, defeating Dick Togo for the belt. This is Shuji’s third reign as KO-D Champion, twice as Shuji Ishikawa and once when he wrestled under the mask as Koo. Will we see a similar title run as last time when he was able to hold title defences in Union?

Shuji’s first defence was confirmed to be GENTARO, who kept his word that he would cash in his “Anytime And Anywhere” contract to face the winner of Togo Vs Shuji. The match has been set for 19th June at Korakuen Hall.

Takao Soma declared that he wants to be next in line for a KO-D Title shot after GENTARO gets his match.

Keisuke Ishii was the big winner of the Royal Rumble. His prize was a shot at the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Championship. This meant the surprise return of Masa Takanashi! The match between Takanashi and Ishii was set for 19th June but when the two shook hands, Ishii gave him a Small Package and won the title! However, Masa then gave Ishii a Low Blow and Small Packaged him to win the title back!

This time Bob Sapp sent three assassins after Danshoku Dino. Choun-Shiryu led the attack along with two fighters from Hong Kong Pro Wrestling but Dino was too manly beyond their wildest expectations to be defeated.

The always bouncy in a good way Yuzuki Aikawa announced that she will compete at DDT’s Sumo Hall show.

The 1st Round matches for the King Of DDT tournament have been announced. They will take place on 21st May at Shin-Kiba 1st RING. The matches are:

Makoto Oishi Vs Kenny Omega

KUDO Vs Yasu Urano
Hikaru Sato Vs Tomomitsu Matsunaga
Daisuke Sasaki Vs Super Shit Machine
HARASHIMA Vs MIKAMI
Keisuke Ishii Vs Shigehiro Irie
Kota Ibushi Vs Michael Nakazawa
