One of them is Takatoge, the supernatural alter ego of Takashi Sasaki that existed around a decade ago. Sasaki dusts off the gimmick to bid farewell to Sawada.

DDT, Big Japan, FREEDOMS, K-DOJO and Ice Ribbon will be hosting the “NEW YEAR YOKOHAMA WRESTLING FIESTA” in the Red Brick Warehouse on 5th and 6th January. Big Japan last held the Yokohama Wrestling Fiesta in April 2007. This time around there are several promotions teaming together using the same concept as the annual Sapporo Wrestling Festival in October.

Poison Sawada Announces Plans To Retire

September 18, 2012

DDT “WHO’S GONNA TOP? 2012 ~ DDT48 GENERAL ELECTION LAST DAY”, 30/09/2012
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. Poison Sawada Retirement Road – First Leg: Sanshiro Takagi & MIKAMI Vs Poison Sawada JULIE & Client Snake
2. KO-D Openweight Title: Kota Ibushi (c) Vs El Generico

Atsuo Sawada, aka Poison JULIE Sawada, aka Poison Sawada JULIE, aka Poison Sawada today held a press conference to announce his impending retirement. Sawada explained that a combination of nerve root damage in his neck plus cervical disc disease has led to this decision. He said that ever since his match with Masahiro Chono in 2009, his neck felt more and more funny as time went on. The symptoms never healed and he has finally reached the point where he cannot continue to wrestle even on a part time basis as he had been doing.

Sawada was accompanied by Sanshiro Takagi & MIKAMI for the conference. Takagi said it is important for DDT to support the next generation of wrestlers and the time has come for Sawada to step aside. He also said Sawada created a great impact in DDT. MIKAMI spoke of his rivalry with Sawada during the early days of the promotion and called Sawada his companion both inside and outside the ring.

Tsurumi Amon was also there to announced Sawada’s remaining matches before he calls it a day. Amon originally wanted Sawada to compete as much as he could but to limit the risk of injury, Sawada will only wrestle three more times. His matches will take place in Korakuen Hall on 30/9, Shin-Kiba 1st RING on 28/10 and his retirement match will ba back in Korakuen on 25/11. For the first leg of his retirement tour, Sawada will use his Poison Sawada JULIE gimmick to team with one of his loyal minions Client Snake (Shuji Ishikawa) and face Sanshiro Takagi & MIKAMI.

Poison Sawada has had a long and storied relationship with wrestling going back to 1981. Sawada joined New Japan and served as a ring attendant until he resigned in 1983. He reappeared on the indie scene a few years later and went through several different gimmicks and promotions including the original Union Pro Wrestling which was where he became Poison Sawada. He eventually found his way into DDT where he among other things created the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Championship, founded a snake themed religion that resulted in him becoming Poison Sawada JULIE, been beheaded, turned into stone, time travelled, came back as Poison Sawada, re-established Union, feuded with a Karate Dojo that led to death matches involving real live scorpions, somehow turn into a thing that had troll hair and a giant hand, fought Masahiro Chono in Sumo Hall and forced hundreds of people to raise their hands against their will to the sound of rattling.

And if that isn’t worthy of an induction into the Wrestling Observer Hall Of Fame, I don’t know what is…

Poison Sawada JULIE has been having nothing but bad luck since his return to the ring. After losing to MIKAMI at Sumo Hall and then getting dismantled by Daisuke Sasaki during Beer Fight week, Sawada visited a fortune teller to search for a solution to his problems. The fortune teller told him that the name ‘Poison Sawada JULIE’ is filled with bad vibes. If he was to change his name, it could lead to a new golden age for Sawada. So now Sawada is currently searching through his scrolls and studying his ancient scripts in the hopes of discovering a name that will lead to a new chapter of his life. He will debut his new moniker at Korakuen Hall.

“WHO’S GONNA TOP?” Matches Added, DDT48 Standings, Sawada Injured, Ibushi Returning

August 31, 2010

Two matches have been announced for “Who’s Gonna Top? 2010” set to take place in Korakuen Hall on the 26th September. Our new KO-D Tag Team Champions already have their first defence lined up and it couldn’t be against a tougher team. Disaster BOX are the challengers with HARASHIMA looking to add another title to go along with the KO-D Openweight Title currently around his waist while another Tag Title reign would be just peaches for Toru Owashi. Probably the kind he can wear on his head. However, the odd couple of Shiro Koshinaka & Danshoku Dino were able to defeat two highly regarded teams in the DDT roster to become the champs. A successful first defence here will clear the highest profile challengers off the table for the time being.

The second match will be Muscle Sakai’s final appearance on the main DDT brand, and could there be any better choice than Sanshiro Takagi to be his opponent? With his retirement coming just over a week later, I look forward to seeing Sakai provide a lot of entertainment here before he’s gone for good.

DDT “WHO’S GONNA TOP? 2010”
26/09/2010
Tokyo Korakuen Hall
1. Muscle Sakai Last DDT Match: Sanshiro Takagi Vs Muscle Sakai
2. KO-D Tag Team Championship: Shiro Koshinaka & Danshoku Dino (c) Vs HARASHIMA & Toru Owashi

As of 29th August 2010, the DDT48 Election standings are as follows:

01. HARASHIMA (117 votes)
02. Danshoku Dino (111 votes)
03. Kota Ibushi (92 votes)
04. MIKAMI (84 votes)
05. Sanshiro Takagi (81 votes)
06. YOSHIHIKO (78 votes)
07. Hikaru Sato (77 votes)
08. Dick Togo (74 votes)
09. Shigehiro Irie    (66 votes)
10. Kenny Omega (60 votes)
11. Yasu Urano (53 votes)
12. Michael Nakazawa    (51 votes)
13. KUDO & Antonio Honda (48 votes)
15. Toru Owashi & Daisuke Sasaki (39 votes)
17. Yukihiro Abe, Shuji Ishikawa & Cherry (33 votes)
20. Takao Soma (32 votes)
21. Keisuke Ishii (30 votes)

The top three have received a huge boost in votes and it’s expected that DDT’s three most known names would be on top. Shigehiro Irie is the most notable drop and languishes in the middle of the pack. It’s becoming clear that the fight for the 18th spot will be the most frantic. A tie for the final spot at the end is starting to look likely.

Turns out Poison Sawada JULIE is injured. He’s gone into hibernation after receiving elbow surgery. No more rattling snake magic for a while then.

Kota Ibushi will make his return for the Campsite Pro Wrestling show on 12th September. So far only he and Sanshiro Takagi have been announced to compete.
