TGS Exhibition Matches, Abadon Off TJPW Show, This Is Not Meant To Be An AEW Blog I Swear

AEW “TOKYO GAME SHOW 2022 EXHIBITION MATCH”, 16/09/2022
Chiba Makuhari Messe Hall

1. AEW: Fight Forever Exhibition Match: Christopher Daniels Vs Chris Brookes
2. AEW: Fight Forever Exhibition Match: Ryo Mizunami Vs Hikari Noa
3. AEW: Fight Forever Exhibition Match: Konosuke Takeshita Vs Winner Of Match #1

There’s the confirmation over what I was talking about from yesterday’s post. AEW are holding exhibition matches at the Tokyo Game Show with DDT and Tokyo Joshi Pro also involved. There will be matches held over three days with a variety of wrestlers from the promotions already mentioned plus a few more names in store. On Day 1 the first two matches will be held at 1:00 pm. Match #3 will be at 3:00 pm.

Other names advertised to appear during the weekend are Riho, Michael Nakazawa, Yuka Sakazaki, Maki Itoh, Hagane Shinno and Yuki Ueno. Itoh I’m surprised by because she has a match in Canada on Friday and a match in America on Saturday. Does the time difference work out for her to make it back on Sunday? There are also a few big name omissions given who is also in the country this weekend. Earlier today Hikaru Shida starred in the latest Makai performance and Emi Sakura was running a Gatoh Move event. And of course there is all the talk surrounding Kenny Omega. He is currently suspended from AEW related business due to investigations over the incident that is now referred to online as “Brawl Out”.

The latest gossip is Omega will not be involved with the promotion for AEW’s video game at TGS. News has since come out that both Nakazawa and Christopher Daniels have been cleared of any wrongdoing so their suspensions have been lifted and they can go ahead with their duties. Omega however is over in Japan on his own volition working on personal projects with Sega and Capcom. He visited Sega’s office and posted pictures of himself getting scanned, presumably to become a character for one of the upcoming Yakuza/Like A Dragon games in production. The Capcom connection is an upcoming panel appearance to talk about Street Fighter 6. Oh yeah and he reunited with Kota Ibushi too. As much as that tugs on my heartstrings I won’t go any further with that unless The Golden Lovers reunion makes its way over to DDT. Don’t hold your breath with that one.

Once every match from all three days is completed I will gather them all together for a results post along with video links should they be filmed on any of THQ Nordic’s social channels. Normally I would save AEW results for my Around The World posts but this is all happening in Japan with more direct involvement from DDT and TJPW than usual. So I may as well give the results their own post.

TOKYO JOSHI PRO “TJPW AUTUMN TOUR ’22”, 16/09/2022
Shinjuku FACE

1. 3 Way Match: Hyper Misao Vs Yuki Kamifuku Vs Haruna Neko
2. Moka Miyamoto Vs Mei Suruga
3. Rika Tatsumi Vs Mahiro Kiryu
4. Hikari Noa, Nao Kakuta & Kaya Toribami Vs Yuki Aino, Raku & Pom Harajuku
5. Shoko Nakajima & Arisu Endo Vs Yuka Sakazaki & Mizuki
6. International Princess Title Next Challenger Match: Miu Watanabe Vs Suzume

Sadly Abadon could not get a visa ready in time to travel and cannot be in Japan this weekend. Their appearance at tomorrow’s TJPW show has been cancelled and Mei Suruga is being called in to be Moka Miyamoto’s new opponent. Abadon was meant to be at TGS first and foremost. The TJPW booking was made after the fact but visa troubles with the “event organiser” happened shortly afterwards. Attempts were made to solve the problem but the booking was cancelled in the end. This is not a problem exclusive to AEW contracted wrestlers (see Timothy Thatcher and NOAH last month) but I’m worried this happening so close to Willow Nightingale’s cancelled booking is revealing a trend.

DDT “STERNNESS 30TH ANNIVERSARY ~JUN AKIYAMA 30TH ANNIVERSARY~”, 18/09/2022
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. Yusuke Okada Vs Yuya Koroku
2. Yuki “Sexy” Iino, Danshoku “Dandy” Dieno, Yumehito “Fantastic” Imanari & Koju “Shining Ball” Takeda Vs Sanshiro Takagi, Toru Owashi, Antonio Honda & Kazuki Hirata
3. HARASHIMA & Yukio Sakaguchi & Hideki Okatani & Soma Takao & Yukio Naya
4. Kazusada Higuchi, Yuki Ishida, Yuji Hino & Makoto Oishi Vs Daisuke Sasaki, Minoru Fujita, MJ Paul & KANON
5. Special 6-Man Tag Match: Yuki Ueno, MAO & Toi Kojima Vs Cara Noir, Chris Brookes & Masahiro Takanashi
6. Naomi Yoshimura Vs Takeshi Masada
7. Jun Akiyama Debut 30th Anniversary Match – Special 6-Man Tag Match: Jun Akiyama, Tetsuya Endo & Yoshinobu Kanemaru Vs Yuji Nagata, Konosuke Takeshita & Shunma Katsumata

Jun Akiyama gave a few comments on the card for DDT’s website. He made some DDT to All Japan comparisons, saying Sanshiro Takagi is DDT’s Giant Baba. He also named Konosuke Takeshita, Tetsuya Endo, Kazusada Higuchi and Naomi Yoshimura as DDT’s Four Pillars. Because Takagi is like Baba, Akiyama describes Takagi’s tag match against Pheromones as something like the Family Gundan Vs Akuyaku Shokai comedy bouts that AJPW held throughout the 90s. Does that make Antonio Honda this generation’s Rusher Kimura?

Kenta Kobashi will be a special guest commentator on the show. He was Akiyama’s debut opponent.

GANBARE☆PRO “NERAWARETA GAKUEN 2022”, 02/10/2022
Tokyo Itabashi Green Hall

1. England x Makai x GanJo! Special 6-Woman Tag Match: Nightshade, Moeka Haruhi & HARUKAZE Vs Ram Kaichow, YuuRI & Yoshiko Hasegawa
2. Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Title: Hartley Jackson (c) Vs Yuna Manase

A big shift in Ganbare☆Pro’s main event scene was made after Hartley Jackson won the Spirit Of Ganbare Title from Yumehito Imanari. The first person to challenge him for the belt is Yuna Manase! The two have been in the ring together before over at ZERO1. Manase thinks Jackson does not know the meaning of Ganbare so she won’t let him extinguish its flame.

Nightshade won’t just be working with TJPW when she returns to Japan next month. She will be at Ganpro for the first time in 3 years too. Her match is a chaotic mix of joshi talent including the Ganpro debut of Ram Kaichow!

TOKYO JOSHI PRO “SUMMER SUN PRINCESS ’22”, 09/07/2022
Tokyo Ota Ward Gymnasium
1,130 Fans

1. Moka Miyamoto defeated Juria Nagano with the Rashomon (4:58).

3. Ryo Mizunami defeated Miu Watanabe with the Hot Limit (11:53).
4. Hikaru Shida & Hikari Noa defeated Yuki Kamifuku & Mahiro Kiryu when Shida pinned Kiryu with the Arawashi Driver (13:32).
5. Mei Suruga & Suzume defeated Riho & Arisu Endo when Suzume pinned Endo with the Ring A Bell (14:21).
6. International Princess Title: Alex Windsor defeated Maki Itoh (c) with the GTF (13:22).
*Maki Itoh fails in V5. Alex Windsor becomes the 8th International Princess Champion!
7. Special Single Match: Miyu Yamashita defeated Thunder Rosa with a Cradle (13:39).
8. Princess Tag Team Titles: Saki Akai & Yuki Arai defeated Yuka Sakazaki & Mizuki (c) when Akai pinned Mizuki after the Double Rookie Awards (24:28).
*The Magical Sugar Rabbits fail in V6. Reiwa AA Cannon become the 10th Princess Tag Team Champions!
9. Princess Of Princess Title: Shoko Nakajima (c) defeated Rika Tatsumi with the Diving Senton (19:23).
*V4 for Shoko Nakajima.

Not even a White Dragon going crazy can stop the Big Kaiju right now. In front of over a thousand fans allowed to cheer, Shoko Nakajima defeated Rika Tatsumi to defend the Princess Of Princess Title. Tatsumi promised to be more determined than ever to win and proved it by doing the Missile Hip from the top rope to Nakajima outside the ring. However her attempt to lean back with the Dragon Sleeper for leverage backfired when Nakajima rolled out to free herself from the move. The champion turned the tables from there, used a Double Arm DDT and pinned Tatsumi with the Diving Senton. She called her opponent strong after the match and looks forward to meeting her down the road again. Nakajima then thanked the fans for their cheers because it gives the wrestlers more energy than we think. She praised the roster for being great and wants Tokyo Joshi Pro to grow even more. While Tatsumi is upset over losing, she feels strange because it hasn’t broken her heart. Instead it made her love pro wrestling again.

The supernova rise of Yuki Arai continues with the “genius girl” winning her first championship in TJPW! Her team with Saki Akai was the force that finally broke The Magical Sugar Rabbits and ended their Princess Tag Team Titles reign. At first Arai looked to be out of her depth against the champions but once she got to show off her teamwork with Akai it turned out they had MagiRabi well scouted. Together they blocked one of the Toy Story double team attacks and Arai threw Mizuki off the top rope with the Full Nelson Buster. Akai was also too tall for Yuka Sakazaki to give the Magical Merry-Go-Round to. Mizuki tried to intervene until she was struck in the back of the head with Arai’s Finally kick. Arai went for the move a second time and Sakazaki took the bullet after pushing Mizuki out of harm’s way. Reiwa AA Cannon then took inspiration from the one achievement they both share by performing a Double Rookie Award to Mizuki. Akai then pinned Mizuki for the title change while Arai held Sakazaki back.

Akai admits that they wouldn’t have been able to beat MagiRabi 99 times out of 100. It was Arai’s luck that made today the 1 time they were going to win. Akai thought she was going to be leading the team but her tag partner supported her more than she realised. Now they have the Princess Tag Titles there will be many teams chasing after them. Akai tells Arai this is the hard part because they now have to run further ahead of everyone else. Arai said she feels the weight of carrying the title belt because she is also carrying the history of the previous champions. She wants to be somebody who won’t be ashamed of holding this title. She also can’t wait to show the belt to all the fans of SKE48.

In the days leading up to the show, Thunder Rosa sent a message to TJPW saying if Miyu Yamashita could beat her today then she will give her a AEW Women’s Title shot back in America. The new stakes added more to Rosa’s anticipated return to TJPW for the first time in two and a half years. Yamashita hit the Skull Kick but she couldn’t get the three count with a rope break. She then went for the Attitude Adjustment but Rosa countered it into a Cradle. Yamashita suddenly reversed the Cradle and got a three count out of nowhere to win the match! Rosa said she now knows what to do because she isn’t going to let the AEW Women’s Title be taken away from her like the International Princess Title was. Whenever Yamashita is back in America, she knows where to find Rosa to get her title match. Yamashita said having the home field advantage was why she won today. She would like to have the rematch against Rosa in America but wants to fight that match for herself, not as a representative for TJPW.

England’s Alex Windsor had some bad luck travelling to Japan because she lost her gear and luggage on the way over. However she must be all smiles after today because she beat Maki Itoh to become the new International Princess Champion! Itoh fought big by using an Avalanche DDT but missed the Flying Big Head. Windsor fought back with her own big moves by using a Liger Bomb and another Power Bomb as a counter. She then put Itoh away with a Modified Fisherman Buster called the GTF to win the title. Windsor says she is taking over the world and will take the IP Title where ever she wants to. Meanwhile a sad Itoh is left asking herself why is she always so weak? She has an overseas tour coming up in August so she knows she has to fight more different wrestlers from around the world. She is also upset she couldn’t live up to the expectations of the fans who could now cheer for her today.

The first match for MeiBee Surprise was a success for Mei Suruga & Suzume. They were paired against two opponents who are very close to them. Suruga and Riho have a lot of history together while Suzume regularly teams with Arisu Endo as Daisy Monkey. The match came down to Suzume against Endo. Suzume came out on top after hitting the Ring A Bell on her friend. Riho said she was excited to have the match because it was her first time wrestling in Japan for 9 months. Suzume described the match as a red string getting all tangled up because she has attachments to everyone involved. She also said she will continue fighting to surpass Suruga. You’d think Suruga would see that as a threat but she just laughed it off.

Previous opponents Hikaru Shida & Hikari Noa were now teaming together on today’s show. Together they brushed off Toyo Mates even when they attempted to fight fire with fire. Mahiro Kiryu stopped Noa from using a chair but then tried using the same chair on Shida. That was blocked and Shida pinned her with the Arawashi Driver. Yuki Kamifuku gave encouragement to Kiryu afterwards, telling her life goes by fast and can be over in the blink of an eye. They can become strong people who can take a beating together. Noa said she had a lot of time to think about her previous match with Shida. She enjoyed today’s match more than anything and was happy to use weapons with Shida again. Shida thinks she made a good start in her quest to wreck havoc in TJPW with her appearances so far. She doesn’t know who she will face next but is looking forward to coming back here.

It doesn’t matter if her opponent was changed on short notice. Somebody was going to get a Giant Swing from Miu Watanabe! That somebody happened to be Ryo Mizunami. Watanabe had to work hard for it though because her veteran opponent put her through the wringer with Chops, slams and Lariats. Mizunami gained the upper hand with a Spear and never let go of the momentum, finishing off Watanabe with the Hot Limit. She praised Watanabe, saying she was blown away by her opponent’s power. It doesn’t matter if she is an idol with less experience in the ring, when Watanabe enters through those ropes she is a pro wrestler! Mizunami also appreciated the warm reception she got from the TJPW fans. Watanabe also gave credit to the fans for pushing her on. Even when she was hurt, the fans calling her name made her want to do her best. She achieved her goal to give Mizunami the Giant Swing. Her ultimate goal is to do that to Aja Kong!

Speaking of Kong, she was happy to be back in TJPW. Yuki Aino & Pom Harajuku in particular were surprised to see Kong give Raku a big hug during their entrance all together. Hyper Misao also welcomed Kong back and was nice to her. But that was because Misao wanted to swap teams and be on Kong’s side instead of being her opponent. Misao later sprayed Kong’s face but its effects didn’t last long. Kong wiped out Nao Kakuta & Haruna Neko with a Double Lariat, giving Aino the space to beat Kaya Toribami with the Venus DDT. Misao later said she would like to fight Kong again. Her tag partners are not as enthusiastic over the idea.

The opening match was special for Moka Miyamoto and Juria Nagano because it was the first time they got to experience wrestling in front of a cheering crowd. Nagano used a new combination of kicks but still went back to the Brazilian Kick late in the match. Miyamoto eventually got her in the Rashomon to earn the submission victory. She was glad to win because she knows she would lose to Nagano in a Karate bout. But this is pro wrestling and Miyamoto is more experienced than her here.

There will be a collaboration between TJPW and Idolmaster Cinderella Girls. Two of the characters in the game Akane Hino & Yuko Hori will receive costumes based on the ring gear Yuki Arai and Maki Itoh wore for their IP Title match from “GRAND PRINCESS ’22”. In return, Arai and Itoh will soon receive real life costumes based on Hino & Hori to wear for portraits and other related merchandise.

“GO GIRL 3” will be held at Korakuen Hall on 28th August. It is a show for only women in the audience and admission will be free. There will also be a brand new logo for Tokyo Joshi Pro unveiled at the show.

“The Non-Binary Nightmare” Max The Impaler will make their TJPW debut on the 13th & 14th August Korakuen Hall shows. If there is anything you need to know about Max it this. They hate idols!

6. Special Single Match: MAO Vs Andrew “The Giant” Everett
7. Special Tag Match: Kazusada Higuchi & Naomi Yoshimura Vs Yuki Ueno & Toi Kojima

A press conference was held today for Kazusada Higuchi to address the King Of DDT aftermath. The new KO-D Openweight Champion thanked the fans for their support because he doesn’t think he won the tournament by himself. He praised both of his recent opponents Jun Akiyama and Naomi Yoshimura. He would be fine with Akiyama being one of his title challengers. He also suggested teaming with Yoshimura in a tag match because they did not interact often in DNA and it would be something new. DDT accepted his request for the tag match. They chose Yuki Ueno & Toi Kojima for their opponents because Ueno was also in the semi-finals and Kojima is from after the DNA generation.

Questions have been asked about Andrew Everett’s true size ever since his DDT debut took place. He was given a surprise height measurement during today’s press conference after he was told he would face MAO in a singles match this Thursday. Hisaya Imabayashi tried to measure him but Everett kept trying to cheat. He jumped in the air, stood on a chair and then accidentally pulled the measuring tape off the wall before Choke Slamming it. Imabayashi finally got to measure him when he wasn’t looking and discovered he is really only 170cm tall! Everett has been exposed as a fraud! However his high flying abilities during yesterday’s match was so impressive that DDT still wants to book him. So his match with MAO will go ahead.

Yumehito Imanari crashed the event and taunted Ohka by offering him a choice of chicken salad or sweetbread. Ohka chose the salad and took a bite out of it to prove he is taking his diet for the match seriously. Imanari approved and said he can see the shine in Ohka’s face returning. But then he tried to stuff the sweetbread into Ohka’s mouth. Ohka resisted and said he wouldn’t break his promise to be the best Ken Ohka he can be. Imanari backed off and again gave approval to Ohka’s serious attitude toward their match.

2. DDT Extreme Title – 3 Vs 1 Handicap Rule: Yuki “Sexy” Iino (c), Danshoku “Dandy” Dieno & Yumehito “Fantastic” Imanari Vs Akito

The match stipulations for DDT Extreme Title defences are usually decided by the champion so it is a little odd how little those rules get abused. This is one of those times. Yuki Iino is teaming with Danshoku Dieno AND Yumehito Imanari to face Akito in a 3 Vs 1 Handicap Match. However the rule may backfire because it is a one fall match and Akito will become the champion if he beats any member of Pheromones.

Takanashi is fighting to keep the title so he can bring it with him when he begins wrestling around the world after the summer.

42 days after his concussion, Tetsuya Endo will be cleared to wrestle again. He accepts the result of the DDT Vs NOAH match from “CYBERFIGHT FESTIVAL 2022” and wants to move on with a fresh start. Whether or not he quickly returns to the title picture remains to be seen but the path to take it would begin here.

Higuchi wants to nominate Endo as his opponent for “WRESTLE PETER PAN 2022”. It will all depend on how well Endo does in his return match on 27th July. If DDT or Endo himself does not think he is up to the task then Higuchi may have to nominate someone else.

The debut match of Shinichiro Kawamatsu is going to be more political than he anticipated. One of his opponents is Osamu Nishimura! The legendary wrestler is currently a Councilor on the Bunkyo Ward Council.

Konosuke Takeshita will be on the show. He is coming back to Japan for a little while before continuing his international excursion.

After a few days off the D-Ou Grand Prix was back in action today but one wrestler in particular continues to struggle out of the starting gates. HARASHIMA is now the only person in the tournament who is winless. Even worse is his defeat today was against Kazusada Higuchi, a rival who has not had the best of luck against HARASHIMA in singles matches until now. HARASHIMA did have Higuchi beaten with the Somato but was too slow to pin him. That allowed Higuchi time to fight back and hit the Doctor Bomb twice to win. Higuchi called HARASHIMA his wall and today he was able to climb over it! HARASHIMA gave credit to Higuchi for staying calm throughout the match. His mental strength has improved since their last match against each other and that was the difference maker.

Konosuke Takeshita took a page out of Mike Bailey’s book by bringing out a new finishing move to win his first match in the Grand Prix. Takeshita has created the Fable, a Swanton Bomb from the middle of the top rope onto an opponent sitting in the middle of the ring. Masahiro Takanashi takes the “honour” of being the first victim of the move. Takeshita was inspired by CIMA’s Meteora to create a similar move. He would have used it in his first match against Bailey but the opportunity was never there. Takeshita now wants to change his style whenever he loses so nobody from the wrestlers to the fans can predict what he’ll do in the ring next.

In his second match of the tournament, Shinya Aoki again won in under five minutes this time against Mike Bailey. Aoki chased down his opponent and applied a deep Sleeper Hold, keeping it on while Bailey rolled them out of the ring and onto the entrance ramp. When he finally let go and went back into the ring, Bailey caught him with a High Kick and went for the Ultima Weapon. Aoki instead caught him in a Rotation Arm Lock and got the submission victory. Aoki later complained about his opponents not being a good fit for him so far. He thinks none of his tournament matches have meshed and he’s felt no danger.

The DAMNATION Vs DAMNATION match had the added bonus of being an Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title match. Despite being in the same stable, Tetsuya Endo and Soma Takao did not hold back against each other. Endo thought he had the match won with the Tetsuya In The Sky but Takao turned the pin into the Official Endless Waltz. With Endo left dizzy, Takao then applied La Magistral Cradle to win the match and the title! Takao apologised to Endo for taking his belt. He didn’t even want it. Takao then asked Nobuhiro Shimatani where Mad Paulie was. He’s having his food time. Shimatani then addressed the audience about DAMNATION’s performance today with Takao being the only one in the group to win. He accidentally called Takao “BIMA” and Takao knocked him out to shut him up. Takao also claims his official record in the tournament is 3 wins and 0 losses. Today is really his first win.

As mentioned above, DAMNATION didn’t have the most success today. Daisuke Sasaki lost his match to Akito in a match where Akito constantly targets Sasaki’s knees. The damage took its toll and Akito was able to escape from Sasaki’s Cross Facelock to drop Sasaki knees first onto the canvas. From there Akito got Sasaki to submit to the Perfect Figure 4 Leg Lock. Akito says this victory is bigger than anything he’s gotten before. He got valuable league points and more important than that, he’s beaten the reigning KO-D Openweight Champion! Sasaki was left in despair over the result. Backstage he begged reporters to give him scissors so he could cut his own hair as a forfeit. When he got no answers Sasaki instead decided to make Akito his challenger for the KO-D Title on 3rd January!

Husband and wife Makoto Oishi & Misaki Ohata got their wish to wrestle each other with Shiori Asahi & Ryo Mizunami also involved. Oishi & Asahi had Ohata beaten with the Cactus Flower but time ran out before they could get the pin. Oishi & Ohata embraced after the match before AvidRival left Oishi & Asahi in the ring. Oishi pointed out that he and Asahi are currently the STRONGEST-K TAG Champions in K-DOJO. Maybe they should go after the KO-D Tag Team Titles in DDT too! MAO entered the ring with both of the KO-D Tag belts to confront them but Oishi & Asahi instead decided to change their minds and leave him be.

The Muscle brand will provide a pre-show match on the 30th December Korakuen Hall show. Super Sasadango Machine, Antonio Honda, Choun-Shiryu, Pedro Takaishi, Yasu Urano and Makoto Oishi will be part of the match.

With Misaki Ohata’s retirement coming soon, she wants to leave her career with no regrets. That means before she quits she wants to have a match against her husband Makoto Oishi! Ohata says she only needs 10 minutes with Oishi and originally asked for a singles match. Oishi however wanted to team with Shiori Asahi in DDT again. Struck with inspiration, Oishi asked DDT to bring in Oishi’s friend Ryo Mizunami so they could team up as AvidRival one more time. That way the match will appeal to fans of DDT, K-DOJO and WAVE all at once.
