Sanshiro Takagi appeared at the end of the show to announce that all four members of the Tokyo Joshi Pro roster will make their official pro wrestling debut in a dark match at DDT’s 17/8 Sumo Hall show.

Anime Idol Chick Minami Momochi (an idol who wears a big creepy anime doll mask over her head) approached Takagi and kindly asked him if she could do anything to help Tokyo Joshi Pro. Takagi decided that she will be the new ring announcer for the brand and her first day begins at Sumo Hall.

As the 2013 King of DDT winner, HARASHIMA gets a main event KO-D Title shot at Sumo Hall. It is a title shot that has alluded the challenger ever since February when HARASHIMA fought and lost to Kenny Omega. All that is left to figure out now is who the champion will be. Shigehiro Irie defends the championship against Big Japan’s Yuji Okabayashi in Korakuen Hall on 21st July. If Okabayashi wins, it will bring back memories of “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2010” when HARASHIMA challenged Daisuke Sekimoto for that very championship. A victory for Irie however will continue what is now arguably the most successful KO-D Title reign in DDT history.

Meanwhile a co-main event has been signed and I am so excited to see it happen. It will be the Independent Genius taking on the Rainmaker when Kota Ibushi faces the current IWGP Heavyweight Champion, Kazuchika Okada from New Japan. This will continue Ibushi’s move up to heavyweight status along with his recent weight gain (it is currently 88kg). What’s interesting to note is the match will take place one week after the final of the G1 CLIMAX, which both men have entered. Ibushi thinks he will win the G1 and is interested, is highly motivated to wrestle Okada and wants to challenge for the IWGP Title. However, since there has been no mention of the championship during the announcement, I believe that Ibushi Vs Okada will be a non-title bout if Okada is still the champion when “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2013” takes place.

Speaking of Ibushi and the G1 CLIMAX, his group match with Shinsuke Nakamura in Osaka on 4th August will be shown live on Ustream iPPV.

HARASHIMA wins the 2013 King of DDT and will challenge for the KO-D Openweight Title in the co-main event of “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2013”. It took two Somatos and a Swan Dive Somato for HARASHIMA to beat Kenny Omega in the final. HARASHIMA defeated the rookie phenom Konosuke Takeshita in the semi-final while Omega took care of Yukio Sakaguchi. Now we to see who the champion will be, Shigehiro Irie or Yuji Okabayashi?

The “super important” announcement was the reveal of Kazuchika Okada competing at “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2013”. But that’s not all, it was announced Okada will take on Kota Ibushi in the co-main event! Ibushi thanked the crowd for the support they will give him in the upcoming G1 Climax and he promised he will do his best against the Rainmaker.

Danshoku Dino & Makoto Oishi announced that Kensuke Sasaki will be the third member of their team when they challenge the Monster Army for the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles on 21/7. GM Tsurumi Amon was completely unaware of this and now has to contact Sasaki and negotiate with him to actually appear at the show.

Antonio Honda and Daisuke Sasaki both wrestled in Kushinbo Kamen costumes along with the gear they stole from Masa Takanashi & Akito. I guess they are Kamen’s spare costumes and the Monster Army stole them too.

The Shigehiro Irie title reign rolls on after an emotional challenge from his mentor Sanshiro Takagi. It’s daunting enough to take on your teacher, but for him to name a new finishing move after your favourite AV idol just to play mind games? That takes things to another level. But Irie was able for the task and defeated Takagi to score a seventh KO-D Title defence. Both men were in tears after the match and Irie thanked Takagi for helping him become stronger in his hometown.

Takagi suffered a whiplash from a Fire Thunder Driver just before the end of the match.

The King of DDT 2nd Round provided the other big stories today. Kenny Omega defeated Daisuke Sasaki in the first match. Omega praised Sasaki afterwards for his growth as a good wrestler. Yukio Sakaguchi countered Antonio Honda’s Anaconda Vice into a Reverse Cross Armbreaker to grab the submission victory. Sakaguchi called Honda a formidable opponent and he is now confident he can win the tournament in his first try. HARASHIMA went through another hard fought battle with Hikaru Sato and won with the Swan Dive Somato.

The big surprise of the tournament has been Konosuke Takeshita. The rookie who hasn’t even had a full year in DDT is now two matches away from a main event title match at Sumo Hall. Takeshita defeated Yasu Urano and left a message that his Touchdown finisher can defeat anyone. Urano said his loss was embarrassing and a mistake.

With the 2nd Round over, the Semi-Final draw took place. The results is HARASHIMA Vs Takeshita and Omega Vs Sakaguchi taking place in Osaka tomorrow along with the big final.

Michael Nakazawa set up the NAKAZA-1 CLIMAX for some of the King of DDT 1st Round losers to compete in. Kota Ibushi won the Battle Royal and the prize was an immediate match against Nakazawa. Ibushi easily beat him in under a minute.

Ibushi Enters G1 CLIMAX 23!

Kota Ibushi surprised everyone by being announced as a participant in this year’s G1 Climax tournament in New Japan. He made an appearance at today’s New Japan iPPV in Korakuen Hall after the reveal. His message was brief and polite. “I am Kota Ibushi from DDT Pro Wrestling. I decided to enter the G1 Climax for the first time. Thank you!”

Ibushi had previously competed in New Japan as a Jr. Heavyweight, winning the Best of the Super Jr. tournament and holding both IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championships. Now he has moved up to Heavyweight and the decision may not be as sudden as you think.

During an interview on the DDT website last year, Ibushi said one of his dreams was to compete in the G1 Climax. Ever since Ibushi returned to active competition, he has toned down his high flying moves a little bit while adding some power to his repertoire. These changes might have helped Ibushi adapt his style to be more compatible with heavier opponents. Could it be that Ibushi’s entry was planned a long time ago?

Kota has been added to Group B where he will have matches against Yuji Nagata, Shinsuke Nakamura, Minoru Suzuki, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Tetsuya Naito, Toru Yano, Yujiro Takahashi, Shelton X Benjamin and Karl Anderson. The tournament will take place in the first two weeks of August.

4a. Kota Ibushi and Kenny Omega were both eliminated by Ring Out (10:10).
4b. Takao Soma eliminated Keisuke Ishii with a Sorarina (12:43).
4c. KUDO eliminated Takao Soma with the Diving Double Knee Drop (13:45).
4d. Masa Takanashi eliminated HARASHIMA by Ring Out (15:36).
4e. Isami Kodaka eliminated Masa Takanashi with the Isamu Leg (17:33).
4f. KUDO eliminated Isami Kodaka by Ring Out (19:20).

Kota Ibushi and Kenny Omega accidentally eliminated themselves with the Cross Rush Moonsaults onto each other’s team mates outside the ring.

Everyone gave a group dance performance at the end of the show. Yukio Sakaguchi refused to do it but was eventually persuaded to join in.

2. Tanomusaku Toba defeated Yumehito Imanari by Knockout with a Straight Right (5:50).
3. Osamu Namiguchi & Kazuhiko Ogasawara defeated Shinichiro Tominaga & Tomohiro Otani when Namiguchi pinned Otani with the Lanakila-N (9:30).
4. Ken Ohka defeated Ganbare Tamagawa with the Flame Spear (14:10).

Even in defeat, Ganbare Tamagawa has been inspired by Ken Ohka to become stronger. Osamu Namiguchi & Kazuhiko Ogasawara confronted the two wrestlers after their match but was then cut off by Tanomusaku Toba. Toba challenged Ogasawara to a match and offered a handshake. Ogasawara accepted both. Tamagawa however charged at Namiguchi and the two had to be pulled apart. Both Toba Vs Ogasawara and Tamagawa Vs Namiguchi will take place in Saitama on 21st July.

Suddenly, Survival Tobita made a dramatic entrance. He does not take kindly to Ganbare☆Pro coming into his territory. Ohka and Yumehito Imanari challenged Tobita to a tag team match on 21/7. Tobita accepted and said his partner will be a Phantom!

Tomohiro Otani, the failed SMASH trainee was the person with the amateur wrestling background chosen to team with Shinichiro Tominaga to take on Osamu Namiguchi & Kazuhiko Ogasawara. Unfortunately for Otani, Namiguchi was too strong for him.

Lady Steel appeared demanding to know why she wasn’t booked for the show. She wants to be the Cinderella of Ganbare☆Wrestling and will beat anyone for the title. Ken Ohka gave her a new name, Gorikiko (meaning “Herculean Strength Steel”) and announced she will face Tsukasa Fujimoto on 21/7.

Even though Yumehito Imanari was knocked out, he told Tanomusaku Toba after their match that he had fun and wanted to wrestle him one more time. He even began to cry when he asked for the rematch.

Fumihito Kihara injured his left elbow during the opener.

Shota Vs Crusher Takahashi will happen at the 21/7 event.
