G1 Climax – Block B: Kota Ibushi [8] defeated Hiroyoshi Tenzan [6] by forfeit.
Special 6 Man Tag Match: Kazushi Sakuraba, Akebono & Kota Ibushi defeated Takashi Iizuka, Tomohiro Ishii & YOSHI-HASHI when Sakuraba submitted YOSHI-HASHI with the Sakuraba Lock (13:25).

Kota Ibushi has completed the busiest two weeks of his life and came out of it with a wealth of new opportunities. His first set of matches as a heavyweight in the famous G1 Climax tournament won him plenty of praise as well as a few matches. Ibushi started off as strong as possible, winning his first three matches against Toru Yano, the eventual G1 winner Tetsuya Naito and Karl Anderson. But his run ended there as he lost the next five against Shinsuke Nakamura, Yuji Nagata, Shelton Benjamin, Yujiro Takahashi and Minoru Suzuki. His final match against Hiroyoshi Tenzan was cancelled when Tenzan suffered an injury halfway through the tournament. Instead, Ibushi spent the final night teaming with MMA legend Kazushi Sakuraba and Ribera’s favourite son Akebono, forming possibly the weirdest 3-man team in Japan since the days of WAR. And he probably got a future match against Tomohiro Ishii out of it. Ibushi ended the tournament with 8 points and although he didn’t qualify for the final, he proved he can go with some of the best New Japan has to offer. Next up… Kazuchika Okada!

Unfortunately Tetsuya Endo had to pull out of both Sumo Hall shows after he dislocated his left elbow during his match against Konosuke Takeshita at the 3rd August Beer Garden show. Endo will be gone for a couple of months at least. Kazuki Hirata replaces Endo on Yukio Sakaguchi’s team in Match #6.

Guanchulo crashed a press conference held by Sanshiro Takagi to promote the two Sumo Hall shows demanding he be entered into the All Night Nippon GOLD Battle Royal. Guanchuro claimed he listened to All Night Nippon on the radio in Chile ever since he was in elementary school. He proved this by humming “Bittersweet Samba”, the theme song of the show.

The final battle between Union and the Nazo Fukumen takes place at Beer Garden Fight week. The Nazo Fukumen revealed their true leaders at the last event, one of them being Fukumen Queen. The Nazo Fukumen treat her like a god and have demanded that Union put their “god” Naomi Susan into the match! The challenge was accepted by Isami Kodaka and the main event is now an 8-Person Tag Team match. Susan’s response was she does not see a bright future inside the ring for herself, but she will do her best.

The double date Hiroshi Fukuda & Menso~re Oyaji agreed to have with Riki Seibi & Tsubasa Amami at the last show never happened. So another Idea Pocket sponsored match was booked with the winner getting the services of Seibi straight away followed by Amami’s services at the Union Shin-Kiba show on 24/8. Mio Shirai added herself into the match because she thinks having two sexy idols working for her will boost her merchandise sales.

Kaori Yoneyama is out of action with a “left inner collateral ligament rupture” according to the DDT website. Sayaka Obihiro from Gatoh Move takes her place in the Rock ‘N’ Roll Death Match.

Mitomi Masayuki requested Shuji Ishikawa to be his opponent for his debut match.

Sanshiro Takagi has inserted himself into the Idol Lumberjack Match by convincing singer Eri Nitta to be in his corner. As mentioned before, the role of the idols is to attack anyone who leaves the ring during the match. However, if any of the wrestlers attack an idol they will be immediately disqualified.

Kenny Omega Vs Konosuke Takeshita will also feature Saki Akai and Ayumi Goto. A half Swedish half Japanese singer named LiLiCo will be the special ring announcer.

I don’t know if Match #2 is a wrestling match or a musical contest, since Pour Lui is a J-pop idol from the BiS group. Then again she has Jun Kasai in her corner so that evens things out.

Shigehiro Irie and Yuji Okabayashi both debuted in 2008 and were looked upon to fill up the strong heavyweight roles that were missing from the independent scene. DDT has found a new unlikely event to hold a pro wrestling match in. The Tokyo Big Sight exhibition centre is hosting the HandMade In Japan Festival later this week and a 5 Way Falls Count Anywhere match will take place in the Music & Play Area. Sanshiro Takagi’s reason for setting up the match is to show off the rich artistry and creativity of pro wrestling.
