Two worlds collided today when wrestlers from both DDT and Dragon Gate held a press conference for the joint “DDG COMES BACK” taking place in June.

Shingo Takagi & YAMATO said that they wanted to fight Kenny Omega because of his exciting style. Keisuke Ishii said he understands that his opponents do not know who he is but he will delight the DDT fans by scoring the win for his team. He also admitted to being a Dragon Gate fan.

BxB Hulk wasn’t too excited to hear he would be facing Kota Ibushi. Hulk wondered out loud if Ibushi was the same guy he fought back in 2007 and that he doesn’t know him much since them because he keeps getting injured. He then told Ibushi to be careful so he wouldn’t injure himself again. Ibushi pointed out that he won the match back in ’07. He will look forward to seeing how much both of them have improved since that match.

Super Shisa complimented Masa Takanashi for his ability to use the Yoshitonic/Takatonic finisher. However, he is insulted that Takanashi named the move after himself as if he was the one who invented it. He’ll show Takanashi what the original is like! Ken Ohka told the Shisa team that he will show them the greatness of a true lion. He then named his team with Takasnashi the Dropout Roses. This is in reference to both Ohka and Takanashi dropping out of the Ultimo Dragon Gym when they originally tried to get into wrestling (Ohka trained in the 7th class from 2000, Masa trained in the 9th class from 2002).

With the show taking place in Osaka, Shigehiro Irie is motivated to win the match in front of his home crowd. He also doesn’t want to lose to Cyber Kong. KUDO thinks that he, Irie and HARASHIMA are the strongest trio DDT can create to take on MAD BLANKEY. Akira Tozawa thinks otherwise.

Stalker Ichikawa had no idea the press conference took place today. In fact, Stalker had no idea the show existed and that he has a dark match against Michael Nakazawa. He only found out when he was called to the table! Special guest referee Gorgeous Matsuno said the match will take place under his rules, “Gorgeous Rules”.

Takagi challenged Tsurumi to face Hero Amon in a match. Gorgeous Matsuno has accepted the challenge and will wrestle on behalf of the General Manager.

Then we have what will be one of the big DDT shows of the year. Masa Takanashi has the seemingly impossible task of defending the KO-D Openweight Title against Yuji Hino. Masa would have to pull out a miracle performance similar to the one he pulled against Daisuke Sekimoto in 2009, and then some to beat the Crying Wolf powerhouse. We will also see who out of HARASHIMA, KUDO and Yasu Urano will be next to to challenge for the belt. Plus the wait is finally over. Kota Ibushi returns and faces El Generico in what everyone is hoping will be a match for the ages. Also Keisuke Ishii will be flying the flag for DDT and defending their honour against All Japan’s KAI. Finally we could see New World Japan unveiling their newest member, at least if Sanshiro Takagi is able to find one.

Mio Shirai suffered a fractured nose during the week and will be unable to compete in the long awaited Age Contra Makeup match against Cherry. Emi Sakura will be coming in as her replacement. However, Mio will be attending the show and she will still be forced to remove her makeup if Emi loses the match to Cherry. If Emi wins, then Mio still gets the satisfaction of forcing Cherry to reveal her real age.

Ayumi Kurihara Wins Iron Man Title!

The Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title changed hands over in Pro Wrestling WAVE yesterday when Kana lost the title to Ayumi Kurihara. The match was only advertised as a Catch The WAVE league contest but as champion, Kana was officially defending the Iron Man Title and DDT acknowledges the title change. Ayumi won the match with her Modified Uranage Suplex and is now the 905th champion. However, the title belt itself is currently located in DDT’s headquarters. The belt will be handed over to Ayumi (or whoever the champion will be at that point) on 6th May.

Yuko Miyamoto and Ken Ohka for the DDT Extreme Title now has its stipulation match chosen by the champion. Miyamoto originally said he wanted to have a Fluorescent Lighttube Death Match but Ohka said it was unfair because he has only ever been in two of those kind of matches. Both men made a compromise and decided to make it a Fluorescent Shop Death Match. That means that both fluorescent lighttubes and what I guess will be either items from the merchandise table or items associated with cooking (when not wrestling, Ohka works for DDT’s bar restaurant) are allowed to be used in the match. Miyamoto will not be 100% going into the match. He fractured the big toe on his left foot earlier this month after Moonsaulting from the top of a ladder during a match. Ohka said that he is jealous of Miyamoto because he is married and has a family. However, Ohka also said that Union is his family and he will win back the title for them.

The battle between New Sanshiro Takagi & New Keizo Matsuda will turn into a blast from the past for fans of indie sleaze wrestling. Both wrestlers have been told to invite notable indie wrestlers from the 1990s to help them in a Weapons Rumble style match. The idea is that as the match goes on, a different wrestler will enter the ring after a set period of time and interfere on behalf of the wrestler who chose them. Regular Sanshiro Takagi appeared at the press conference for this event and said he will be paying a lot of money to certain wrestlers to join his side for the match. He thinks his financial strength will be the key to defeating his doppelganger.

Hiroshi Fukuda gave some comments on his Handicap Match of Love against Rion Mizuki & Rumi Kazama. After defeating Mizuki at “MARCH OF THE UNION 2012” last month, he was shocked to find him and Kazama kissing each other afterwards. Now he is determined to defeat Mizuki with the Perfect Plex and rescue Kazama from his clutches. Fukuda also said that in this day and age the best way to indicate the value of a person is by looking at how many Twitter followers they have. Fukuda now has around 850 followers and he thinks he reached that milestone thanks to Kazama and her influences on his training.

For the first time in four years, DDT and Dragon Gate will get together again for their Dramatic Dream Gate joint show. This will be the third DDG show to take place and the first to happen outside of Tokyo. Notable moments that took place in the previous events include Danshoku Dino and Masaaki Mochizuki swapping bodies before their match, a dream face off between Kota Ibushi and BxB Hulk, Stalker Ichikawa and Gorgeous Matsuno building up a ridiculous rivalry where neither of them could get the upper hand, and CIMA getting way more of Dino and Akira Tozawa than he bargained for.

It is looking like Cherry will make a recovery from her injury suffered last week and be able to participate in her match with Mio Shirai. Cherry left some comments on the DDT website joking about how she has a weak waist. She’s even gone as far as to dare Mio to target her waist and hips during their match. Cherry also said she is looking forward to seeing Mio’s “pretty face under that heavy makeup!” With her secret age on the line, Cherry is determined not to lose no matter how hurt she is.

Cherry Hospitalised

April 20, 2012

Cherry was taken to hospital in Osaka today when she was unable to get up after a match for Pro Wrestling WAVE in the Osaka Minami Move On Arena. Cherry complained of having a strong pain in both her chest and neck and had to be stretchered out of the ring to an ambulance. A CT scan at the hospital showed she did not suffer any major injury. Cherry is currently in a stable condition and is able to speak normally. She will be released from the hospital soon and will be examined again over the next 21 days.
