Sato & Sawa’s German Adventure, Kenny Goes To Ice Ribbon

January 17, 2011

Both Hikaru Sato and Munenori Sawa were in Germany during the weekend for two Westside Xtreme Wrestling shows. On the same night Daisuke Sekimoto became the new wXw Unified World Champion, Sato & Sawa teamed up to challenge Bad Bones & Carnage for the wXw World Tag Team Titles. The BattlArtsPancrase pair worked well together but failed to win the belts from the duo known as the Oberhausen Terror Corps.

The next night both Sato and Sawa competed in the second annual Ambition shoot style tournament. Both men got past the first round and faced each other in the semi-final where Sawa got the better of Sato. Unfortunately for Sawa, he was defeated in the final.

Speaking of wXw, the company will be holding its major 16 Carat Gold tournament in March. Several Japanese talent will be competing both in tournament and seperate matches. So far the puro scene is represented by Yoshihito Sasaki, Kotaro Suzuki and Go Shiozaki, with Sekimoto taking part in non-tournament bouts. There are still some announcements left to make, so if any DDT related talent get announced I will post it here.

Omega Out Of HP, Ibushi & Co Join Kana

December 16, 2010

Kenny Omega suffered a dislocated ankle while training during the week. The injury will put him off this weekend’s big Ring Of Honor iPPV event and may also remove him from the last DDT show of the year on 26th December. He and Kota Ibushi are supposed to defend the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Titles against Jado & Gedo on that show. The match might have to be delayed until 2011 to allow Omega to properly recover. This means he may also have to miss wrestling at the Tokyo Dome for New Japan on 4th January aswell.

I don’t follow that much of the joshi scene but I do know there is a split of opinion when it comes to the wrestler Kana. Some joshi enthusiasts are fans of her only because they fancy the woman. Others criticise her for wrestling a wreckless Bati style and having little regard for the safety of her opponents in matches, among other things. I’m not ashamed to admit I am part of the former. Hey, I’m a sucker for an Asian girl with short hair and a cute face.

Anyway, the reason I bring this up is because the lovely Kana will be holding her next produce show in January and it will have some DDT and Union alumni involved. Kota Ibushi and Hikaru Sato are no slouches when it comes to the Bati Bati style of fighting which I am sure the show will be built around while Isami Kodaka will take part in another Hardcore match. He’s used to them by now. At least he should be.

Union, 03/01/11
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. Ken Ohka Comeback Match: Ken Ohka Vs Tsuyoshi Kikuchi
2. Sanshiro Takagi & Munenori Sawa Vs Kengo Ohka & Madoka
3. Shinichiro Tominaga Debut Match: Shinichiro Tominaga Vs El Generico
4. DDT Extreme Title – Captain’s Fall Six Man Tag: Kim Nun Pun (c), Chou-un Shiryu & Cao Zhang (with Princess Makoto) Vs Isami Kodaka (c), Yano K Data & Survival Tobita
5. Shuji Ishikawa Vs Manabu Nakanishi

A big challenge for Shuji Ishikawa in the main event but one that could send shockwaves over the Japanese wrestling scene if he defeats Manabu Nakanishi.

The Captain’s Fall Six Man Tag will be Kim Nun Pun’s first defence of the DDT Extreme Championship. I’m not entirely sure if the title is awarded to whoever gets the fall over Pun or if it is just captain Isami Kodaka who becomes champion if his team wins. Yano K Data is Keita Yano in Joker make up for those of you who need reminding.

Cao Zhang and Princess Makoto are the Chinese wrestlers who requested to compete in Union after meeting Chou-un Shiryu. Cao is said to have trained at a wrestling dojo that has been in existence since the Han Dynasty (206 BCE – 220 CE) and is also said to be a descendant of the warlord Cao Cao. Princess Makoto is part of New Beijing’s Diva division.

Let’s see how El Generico fares with the Union fanbase. A win against the debuting Shinichiro Tominaga is certain. Either way it will be great to see El Generico wrestling in Japan again.

TKG48 began its rampage of Union during the week but the next line of defence put up against them is a tough one. Should be a great match between Sanshiro Takagi & Munenori Sawa against Kengo Mashimo & Madoka.

Ken Ohka will return after a seven month absence nursing a fractured left knee. There to meet him in his first match back will be former NOAH wrestler Tsuyoshi Kikuchi who has had brief appearances for DDT and Union the last couple of months.

Union “NEW YEAR DRAGON”, 16/01/11
Nagoya Kanayama

1. Isami Kodaka & Yano K Data Vs Yasu Kubota & Hide Kubota
2. Sanshiro Takagi Vs Nori da Funky Shibire-sasu
3. Shuji Ishikawa Vs Shigehiro Irie

Nori da Funky Shibire-sasu (Real name Satoru Takahashi) is a member of the Hip Hop group nobodyknows+. He has been in a wrestling match before, making his debut on 5th May, 2010.

Congratulations go out to the Golden Lovers for winning the Best Bout category in the 2010 Tokyo Sports Awards. Their match with Apollo 55 at NJPW “DESTRUCTION ’10” won by a pretty big margin and caps off a Dramatic year for the BFFs Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega. Next they will look forward to clashing with Gedo & Jado on the day after Christmas (Boxing Day, St. Stephen’s Day, etc) in order to survive 2010 as IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champions.

Hikaru Sato is set to pack his bags and head off to Germany in January to compete in the WXW “AMBITION 2” tournament. The first “AMBITION” tournament, won by Bryan Danielson (or as he is now known in another Universe, Daniel Bryan), caught attention from wrestling fans for featuring a more hybrid shoot fighting style of wrestling in its matches. It is a style that Sato is more than familiar with and he will surely become one of the favourites to win the tournament when the entire lineup is announced.

6. Rion Mizuki (0)

Hikaru Sato is the brand new KO-D Openweight Champion after a whirlwind period that saw his value grow higher and higher. Along with finishing second in the DDT48 Election, a shocking win over Kota Ibushi earned him a shot at HARASHIMA. Sato did to the champion what he did to Ibushi and that was rip his God damn arm off! The build up running up to the show was focused on Hikaru Sato. A video promo had Sato ask himself “What do I dream about? My dream wrestling match.” He came out to new theme music (“Electro World” by Perfume) and was showered in paper streamers from the Osaka fans. He was even accompanied by both the members of the Shit Heart ♥ Foundation and the former Belt Hunter X Hunter stables. HARASHIMA was accompanied by his fellow DISASTER-BOX teammates. Sato targeted the arm with Cross Armbreakers, a Keylock and Triangle Chokes including one hanging from the ropes. After 21 minutes, the Cross Armbreaker was too much for HARASHIMA to take and Yukinori Matsui had to call for the match to end. Afterwards, Sato told the fans  that his victory “…was a dream of mine. It was a dream for everyone!” He admitted that he will still be a fool from time to time and hoped that fans will continue to support him in DDT and also wrestling in Osaka in general. After his speech, Sato called Dick Togo to the ring in order to say he is prepared for their match on the 28th November. Togo congratulated the new champion but said he will let his actions in the ring do all the talking.

The Golden Lovers no longer have to worry about Apollo 55 chasing after their IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championships for now. Kota Ibushi pinned Ryusuke Taguchi with the Phoenix Splash in a turbo paced title match that went full speed from the beginning. The Lovers’ next challengers look to be Gedo & Jado and there is no love lost between these two teams.

Antonio Honda & Daisuke Sasaki won the KO-D Tag Team Championships from the Butt Samurai team of Shiro Koshinaka & Danshoku Dino. Honda & Sasaki stole the belts from Dino during the Shin-Kiba 1st RING 5th Anniversary show. The plot was created by Honda to get revenge on Dino for a traumatising event that happened when the two shared an apartment together two years ago. What happened was one day Honda brought home a pudding that he was saving for later and he left it in the fridge. He even labelled the pudding so Dino would know it was for Honda. However, while Antonio was taking a bath, Dino became hungry and found the pudding in the fridge. He never noticed the label and ate the entire pudding. When Honda found out he tried not to get upset about it. However, as each day passed Honda’s anger grew like thorns stabbing in his heart until it finally reached it’s breaking point. So Honda joined up with his “true friend” Daisuke Sasaki to plan his revenge. They stole the belts, got Dino to accept their challenge for a title match and, most gratifying of all, Honda pinned Dino to win the belts. However, Honda & Sasaki already have a target on their backs. GENTARO & Yasu Urano challenged them to a title match for 28th November. DDT GM Tsurumi Amon accepted their request so the match is set for Korakuen Hall.

Dick Togo, GENTARO & Yasu Urano are now together as a stable. Yasu was seen with a t-shirt wrapped around his waist that said GRANMA. That might be the name of the new stable.

Sanshiro Takagi & Yoshiaki Yago teamed up for what was supposed to be a three match series in a bid to get rid of Yago’s ring rust aswell as to patch things up between the two before Takagi leaves for Union. In all three matches, Sanshiro accidentaly clocked Yago with a Clothesline that would lead to the team losing to the Suicide Boyz, the former Nuru Nuru Brothers and Toru Owashi & Hideki Shiota. A surprise fourth match then took place as Tsurumi Amon invited Takaku Fuke & Kuishinbo Kamen from Osaka Pro to take part in the series. Takagi once again Clotheslined Yago by accident but this time Yago avoided being pinned and trapped Kuishinbo in the Cobra Twist to finally win a match.

Yukihiro Abe’s cosplay for the day was from the anime series “K-On!

Golden Lovers Vs Apollo 55 Rematch Confirmed! Some Other News Too

October 25, 2010

DDT already has its top two matches booked for their return to the Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium next month and they are both something to really look forward too. The big one sees those two Golden Lovers, Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega defend their newly won IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Titles against the very team they won them from Apollo 55! The New Japan duo are heading into Dramatic territory in a bid to win those belts back. (Speaking of Golden Lovers Vs Apollo 55, we’re still waiting on that NJPW Sumo Hall show to come online. Come on Japan, what’s taking so long?)

Sticking closer to home is the other big match signed, HARASHIMA defending the KO-D Openweight Title against Hikaru Sato. The neko maid shoot fighter has seen his profile raise significantly over the past year and his recent win over Kota Ibushi was enough to earn him his chance at the title. If HARASHIMA defeats Sato, he will match his personal best of KO-D Title defences at 3 wins.

2. KO-D Openweight Title: HARASHIMA (c) Vs Hikaru Sato

In a surprising turn of events, DDT founder Sanshiro Takagi will be moving over to the UNION brand after his defeat to Toru Owashi. But before he leaves DDT for the time being he will have one more match at the next Korakuen Hall show. Takagi and a partner of his choice will take on puro legend Genichiro Tenryu! Oh, and Masao Orihara too but nobody cares about him (I know I don’t).

In business news, one of DDT’s restaurants will be getting a new name and new management. The Mitsuboshi Curry restaurant will have Cherry taking over as its manager and the new name will be introduced in two weeks. DDT currently runs three food and drink establishments in Tokyo, the Dropkick Bar and Ebisuku Bar & Grill which are both in Shinjuku and Mitsuboshi Curry in Mitaka. Many DDT wrestlers work in these places while pursuing their wrestling careers and the success of these businesses makes DDT is one of the more finacially healthy wrestling promotions in Japan today.

Shin-Kiba 1st RING
457 Fans – Super No Vacancy Full House

0. Pancrase Rules: Jushin Thunder Butter defeated Nasu Akira with a Rear Naked Choke (R2 – 2:11).
1. Mask Vs Bra Vs Panties Vs Condom 4 Way Match: Antonio Honda defeated Seiya Morohashi, Marines Mask II & sawako when Honda grabbed the condom (11:24).
2. Blindfolded Audience Match: Kana defeated Takaku Fuke by DQ when Fuke refused to break the Body Scissors Hold (6:21).
3. Costume Play Rumble: YOSHIHIKO defeated Yukihiro Abe with a Huracanrana (11:26). Other contestants: Daisuke Sasaki, Keisuke Ishii, Muscle Sakai, Kazuki Hirata & Cherry.
4. Sudou Sponsored Match: Kota Ibushi & Takao Soma Vs Danshoku Dino & Shigehiro Irie ended in a No Contest (10:12).
5. Brahman Shu & Brahman Kei defeated Michael Nakazawa & Hikaru Sato when Shu pinned Sato with the Zombie King (17:07).

This DDT show was based around a one night revival of Michael Nakazawa & Hikaru Sato’s Hentai team gimmick. That’s hentai as in acting perverted, not interests in animated porn. Their matches often included such debaucherous acts like handcuffs, blindfolds, gagged mouthpieces, dripping candle wax and leather whips. And this was stuff Michael and Hikaru would use on each other! Many of their matches would end in no contests as both their opponents and the officials would get sick of watching their S&M sessions in the ring.

And some of you thought Danshoku Dino was bad…

The show was only open to fans over 15 because of the perverted nature of the evening. And boy, was it perverted. The audience was treated to an opening video package which included footage of Nakazawa and Sato wrestling each other naked. The main event saw the Hentai team facing the Brahman Brothers in a match that featured Nakazawa tying and gagging himself to the ring post and Sato getting his backside smeared in miso. With that said, they did put up a tough fight against Shu & Kei but in the end it was the Brahmans that left victorious.

The semi-main was sponsored by a lotion company, so buckets of lotion were placed in each corner of the ring. Everybody involved were soaked in lotion during the match, which got so out of control it had to be called off. It didn’t stop an oily Dino from terrorising the fans afterwords though.

For the Cosplay Rumble, Yukihiro Abe wore a schoolgirl top, striped underwear, cat ears and a cat tail. Daisuke Sasaki was just a plain school girl. Keisuke Ishii was wearing the school girl uniform from Evangelion. Muscle Sakai wore factory clothing, but some translated reports say he was a character from a homoerotic manga. Kazuki Hirata was Super Strong Machine and recieved calls of “Hirata!” from the fans (get it?). I couldn’t tell what Cherry was supposed to be. Looks like her normal gear but she may have been wearing a mask to go with it. Abe thought he won when he was the last wrestler in the ring. However YOSHIHIKO came out as the final entrant wearing a maid costume and pinned Abe with a Huracanrana. By winning the match, YOSHIHIKO was rewarded with the title of “King Of Pro Wrestling Cosplay”. He is the second person to win this title. The previous winner was Kota Ibushi in a wedding dress.

Takaku Fuke and Kana fought in a mixed-gender match that had plenty of worked shoot elements. However, a lot of the audience were told to use their face masks as blindfolds for the match. Why? I don’t know. This match was made when Kana defeated Fuke with Mounted Punches at an Osaka Pro event last month. Here, Fuke originally won by submission by trapping Kana in a Triangle Choke. However, he was disqualified for refusing to let go of the hold after the match. For some reason, maybe as a forfeit, Fuke decided to strip down to his g-string. Kana begged him to stop. Fuke might have challenged Kana to a deathmatch in the future to settle the score.

The goal for match #1 was for the winning wrestler to remove a certain item of clothing worn by one of his opponents. Marines Mask had his mask, sawako (Munenori Sawa) wore panties, Antonio Honda wore a bra and Seiya Morohashi wore a condom under his regular wrestling gear. Late in the match, Seiya took off the condom and used it to give everyone Mandible Claws, even giving one to the ref. However, Honda was able to grab the condom off of Seiya while the ref was distracted with sawako’s panties over his head.

Last DDT48 Message, Hikaru Sato In ZERO1

August 25, 2010

The fifth and final video message for the DDT48 Election has been released on DDT’s Ustream channel.

http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/9129079

Toru Owashi, Yasu Urano, Shoichi Uchida, Hideki Shiota, Yoshiaki Yago (who deserves to get in just for the guitar solo alone), Kyosuke Sasaki (audio only), DJ Nira (audio and images only) and YOSHIHIKO (announced message).

With that, all 48 candidates have put forth their opening statements and will spend the next month campaigning for the fans votes.

Hikaru Sato will be travelling over to ZERO1 to take part in the annual Tenka-Ichi Jr. Tournament. This will be his second Jr. tournament this year, after a fair showing in All Japan’s Jr. Heavyweight League. The premise of the Tenka-Ichi is based on Dragonball, with each wrestler being given a special sphere to carry down to matches. The match winners take the balls from the losers and eventually the tournament champion has possession of all of them. The grand prize for winning the Tenka-Ichi and collecting all the spheres will be a special wish granted to the winner. Maybe Hikaru’s wish will be to open a maid cafe.
