6. Daisuke Sasaki & Tetsuya Endo defeated HARASHIMA & Yasu Urano when Endo pinned Urano with the Sky Twister Press (19:50).

DAMNATION were given 10kg of rice divided into three bags as a reward for winning the main event. One of the bags were handed over to Yukinori Matsui and he ran off with it. Daisuke Sasaki said beating HARASHIMA’s team was no big deal because he and Tetsuya Endo were always going to win the KO-D Tag Team Titles at Korakuen Hall. They will now spend their time eating all of their rice until the title match on 25th September.

Super Sasadango Machine said he was destined to give Yoshihiro Takayama the Lehmann Shock. Makoto Oishi told him his chances of winning was 100%. However he backed off whenever Takayama was tagged in. Takayama ended up chasing him around ringside yelling. Sasadango eventually hit the Lehmann Shock but Takayama kicked out at one. Takayama then hit a Running Knee Lift for the win. Aftwards Oishi admitted Sasadango had 0% chance of winning.

Today was Mike Bailey’s last match in Japan for September. He will be back in October for the DNA Grand Prix. He gave Konosuke Takeshita and Antonio Honda plenty of praise, calling Takeshita DDT’s #1 and Honda an important person. He himself wants to win the Grand Prix so he can become DDT’s future.

Danshoku Dino and Joey Ryan argued over the status of Niigata City before their tag match. Dino said Niigata was a Gay Town but Ryan thought the city should be a Porn Town instead. Their match now determined what kind of town it will be. Dino’s team won and he triumphantly declared Niigata is now a Gay Town. However he appreciated Ryan’s desire to fight for what he believes in and declared Niigata can also be a Porn Town too.

peterpan2016-kodtitle

In the main event Konosuke Takeshita put his KO-D Openweight Title on the line against DAMNATION’s big dog, Shuji Ishikawa. Takeshita quickly knocked his opponent outside the ring with a Lariat and followed up with a Plancha. The tables turned when Ishikawa Power Bombed Takeshita onto the ring apron. He was badly hurt but managed to break the countout in time. Ishikawa continued the attack by standing on him, applying a Bearhug and hitting a Knee Lift. There was also a Double Stomp from the second rope. Takeshita avoided the Fire Thunder and fired back with a Dropkick to get some time to recover. However Shuji Ishikawa brought out a big Missile Dropkick when he stopped a Superplex attempt. Takeshita did a Missile Dropkick of his own after a Dragon Suplex. The Blue Thunder Bomb only got a two count. Takeshita couldn’t lift Ishikawa for the Deadlift German Suplex so Ishikawa got to do a Back Drop into a Backstabber instead. The two soon traded Lariats and Headbutts until Takeshita caught Ishikawa with a German Suplex for a nearfall. Ishikawa avoided the Cross Arm German Suplex by blindly Headbutting Takeshita behind him. He then hit the Fire Thunder that left both men down on the canvas. When they got up Takeshita went for a Lariat but was blocked with a Knee Lift. Ishikawa hit the Splash Mountain but Takeshita kicked out! Unfortunately that was the last of his fighting spirit spent as Ishikawa then hit the Giant Slam to become the new KO-D Champion! Ishikawa acknowledged Takeshita’s strength in his victory promo but he is even stronger. Ishikawa welcomes another challenge in the future. He then said his heyday isn’t now but tomorrow. Daisuke Sasaki took the mic and demanded applause for the new champion. He said this was the happy ending and Takeshita is only a B grade wrestler who should study in school. From now on it’s the era of the Large Giant! So who should challenge him? The ringside area filled up with the DDT roster but Sasaki wasn’t impressed. He called all of them B grade garbage wrestlers. At the next show DAMNATION themselves will decide who the No. 1 Contender should be. Ishikawa tried to thank the crowd for their support but Sasaki cut him off. Sasaki introduced every member of DAMNATION and said they are the best, they are not married and they are DAMNATION!

peterpan2016-kodtag

Bad times have come for Bad Comi. Their first defence of the KO-D Tag Team Titles was a failure, losing out to Smile Yankee. Things went south pretty quickly when a Plancha from KAI only hit Ken Ohka and Shota but not their opponents. A brawl around the arena followed and KAI took the time to do some commentary on the Samurai! TV broadcast. HARASHIMA & Yuko Miyamoto took control back in the ring until a Double Spear from the champions laid them out. Ohka gave HARASHIMA a Dragon Suplex for a two count but Miyamoto blocked his Spear Of Flame afterwards. The distraction allowed HARASHIMA to hit the Somato from out of nowhere. KAI Buckle Bombed HARASHIMA and Ohka stood in place ready to Spear Miyamoto. That’s where it all fell apart. Miyamoto leap frogged out of the way and Ohka accidentally Speared KAI instead! Miyamoto hit the Fire Thunder on Ohka and HARASHIMA followed with another Somato to crown new tag team champions!

peterpan2016-damnation-togo-bailey

Poor Mike Bailey got busted open in his match and by his own partner no less. Dick Togo stopped Tetsuya Endo from pinning Bailey by whacking Endo over the back with a chair. Unfortunately a part of the chair caught Bailey in the temple and cut him open. Bailey valiantly fought on but missed the Shooting Star Double Knee Drop. He was struck again with the chair, this time by Endo and a Sky Twister Press ended the match. An angry Togo threw the chair out of the ring at DAMNATION and he ranted about Sasaki backstage. This isn’t over by a long shot. Bailey meanwhile had to get six stitches over his eyebrow. Next for Sasaki & Endo is a chase for the KO-D Tag Team Titles.

peterpan2016-yukio-koshinaka

Unfortunately there was no Terry Funk for Match #7. Shiro Koshinaka took his place to help Sanshiro Takagi & NOSAWA Rongai take on Shuten-dōji & The Great Kabuki. “Battle Without Honor or Humanity” began playing but it was suddenly switched with “Yankee Station”. Both Yukio Sakaguchi & Kota Umeda entered the arena with half of their faces covered in Great Kabuki facepaint. Takagi and NOSAWA both had sudden knee problems late in the match but gutted through them to win. The Shuten-dōji wrestlers apologised to Kabuki for their “bastard performance” after the match. They hope to team with him again one more time. Takagi and NOSAWA spent their interview reminiscing over DDT’s early years. Memories of the late Super Uchu Power were brought up.

peterpan2016-extreme

Two important things were on the line for LiLiCo and Danshoku Dino. The DDT Extreme Title and love. Maybe love is more important. That’s up for debate. But hey, a shiny championship is a shiny championship. Oh and there’s also the fate of Mizuki Watase who would either end the match as LiLiCo’s boyfriend or getting pulled out of the closet (allegedly) by Dino. Watase did what he could to help LiLiCo, he was legally allowed to. LiLiCo even played effective mind games by mocking the size of Dino’s manhood. They delivered a Double DDT of love to down Dino but an unconscious referee meant the pin didn’t count. Dino recovered, gave LiLiCo a face full of his backside and drove her into despair by giving Watase a Lip Lock. A furious LiLiCo charged right into a Brainbuster and she was then pinned with the Danshoku Driver. Dino told LiLiCo to accept the stipulation, give him Watase and leave the ring. However Watase pushed Dino away and wouldn’t leave his girlfriend’s side. Dino couldn’t understand it. Is Watase really in love with LiLiCo? It’s not like they’re getting married on 25th September… That’s when Watase went down on one knee and pulled out a little box. Watase was ready to propose right there in the ring when Suguru Miyatake suddenly appeared. Miyatake was originally LiLiCo’s bodyguard before he got injured. He wanted to be the one in newspaper photos with her. He wanted to go on the trip to Sweden to meet her parents. He wants the recognition of being her boyfriend so he too will propose to her! “Wait a minute!” Bernard Ackah (where the hell has he been?) approached the ring. He said he was LiLiCo’s very first bodyguard and he wants the fame of being LiLiCo’s boyfriend. He also proposed. Makoto Oishi then joined in. If he is going to be a major idol then being married to LiLiCo will help him greatly. If there weren’t already enough proposals Super Sasadango Machine showed up and proposed too. Dino had an idea. Everyone except Miyatake (because he’s injured) should wrestle in a match and the winner gets to be LiLiCo’s fiance. Everyone agreed, Miyatake broke down into tears. Dino finished the segment by telling everyone that as long as DDT is around, so is he.

peterpan2016-ajpwjr

Soma Takao is now 8-0 in “PETER PAN” matches and he won the AJPW Jr. Heavyweight Championship too! Takao went into the match with new red wrestling gear. His opponent Hikaru Sato came out to “Electro World” by Perfume, the same song he used when he won the KO-D Title back in 2010. All Soma needed to do was hit the Gin And Tonic but Sato made it difficult. However Takao hit Thrust Kick after Thrust Kick to weaken the champion. By the end Sato couldn’t avoid the Gin And Tonic anymore and that was all she wrote. Takao thanked Sato for the match and welcomed him to a rematch down the line. Kazuki Hirata interrupted the victory speech and challenged Takao for a title shot. Fans may think he is useless but his desire to win the title is genuine. Amon Tsurumi tried to give an answer but Hirata cut him off, wanting to hear only from Takao. The champion wants to defend the belt in DDT but isn’t sure Hirata is prepared. He will give him a shot if Hirata’s desire is true. Takao offered a handshake but slapped Hirata afterwards. Hirata slapped back and the two stood off forehead to forehead. In the post-match interview Takao said he wants to defend the title against Atsushi Aoki. He thinks Aoki is the current symbol of All Japan’s Jr. Division and he won’t be satisfied with his reign until he can beat him.

peterpan2016-nwa

Class was in session for NωA. Before their match could take place Super Sasadango Machine set up a PowerPoint presentation to explain today’s mission. NωA need to get 50,000 Twitter followers in order to qualify for a spot in “DDT FES 2016” in November. They only have 1,200 followers. Sasadango came up with PDCA: Plan, Do, Check and Action. He had four steps for NωA tofay. 1) Perform live. 2) Wrestle the match 3) Use your opponent’s technique to trick them. 4) After winning the match go sell CDs at the merch table. So NωA performed “Never Give Up☆I LOVE YOU” live, wrestled the match and tried to attack Antonio Honda with the Bionic Elbow. Honda’s partners kept getting in the way and powered up Honda by singing “We Are The World”. They got so engrossed in singing that they forgot about Honda and allowed him to get overwhelmed by his opponents. MAO hit the Cannonball 450 and got the win for NωA. After the match there was the reveal of all the talent confirmed for “DDT FES 2016”. NωA were not announced but Kota Ibushi was! Backstage Sasadango told NωA not to worry about it and just focus on selling CDs. Honda meanwhile accused his teammates of poor singing because it did not power him up as much as they thought it would. Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi cheered him up by saying the four of them should go out and have sex with everyone.

peterpan2016-kudo

KUDO’s return was a triumphant one. He picked up the win and celebrated afterwards with some drinks. Masahiro Takanashi said the wine tasted great because he got to drink with his “big brother” again. KUDO said he felt anxious having his first match in so long but his confidence helped him. He also said this was just the start of his big return. With important shows in Osaka and Saitama happening in the next 8 months, KUDO is aiming to win a championship.

peterpan2016-ironman

Joey Ryan was barely back in Japan for ten minutes before he lost the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title at the airport. Guanchulo tricked him into tapping out to win the title. The belt switched a few more times between them, Toru Owashi and Sanshiro Takagi’s daughter Rei Takagi until the day of the show. Owashi went into Sumo Hall carrying the title tired from fighting off attackers. He ate some Yakitori chicken and fell asleep. Unfortunately he dropped the chicken on his chest and it counted as a pin. So a piece of chicken went into the Battle Royal as the defending champion. Ryan, Kazuki Hirata and Cherry fought over the chicken and Cherry became the champion by eating it. Gota Ihashi’s crush on Saki Akai briefly ended when he saw Reika Saiki for the first time. She eliminated herself to avoid being in the ring with him. Keisuke Ishii won the title when he violently submitted Cherry with a stomp assisted Half Crab Hold. Mad Polley (Polly? Paulie? Help me out here DDT!) went on a rampage and was very difficult to eliminate. Yoshihiko was the last entrant and locked on a Rear Naked Choke to Ishii, making him tap out. Jun Kasai was all set to do the Pearl Harbour Splash when Hirata stole his goggles. Kasai instead put on a pair of HIRATA GO! glasses but the power of the music was too much to resist. Kasai and Hirata danced together and eliminated several wrestlers while doing so. Yoshihiko pinned Kasai with the Reincarnation and went to fight Hirata. Owashi caught both of them with La Magistral Cradle to win the match and leave as champion. That is until Ryan snuck in a School Boy on the entrance ramp. Ryan thought he was safe until Guanchulo shoved another Yakitori chicken down his mouth backstage. Ryan tapped out from the choking and the chicken was declared champion. The chicken survived the rest of the show until the very end when comedian Ryota Yamasato ate it, blissfully unaware of what it went through. So Yamasato is now champion.

peterpan2016-dna

In preparation for the DNA Grand Prix in October four of the wrestlers entering the tournament were put into a tag team match to open the show proper. Daiki Shimomura was meant to wipe out Mizuki Watase with a Quebrada but almost crippled himself with a bad landing. Thankfully he was okay. Back in the ring Kazusada Higuchi got the win over Kouki Iwasaki. Higuchi said the match was a good opportunity to measure everyone’s strength. He even warned Shimomura that they will be rivals in the Grand Prix. Shimomura thanked him for the warning.

peterpan2016-joshi

Tokyo Joshi Pro provided one of the two pre-show matches. Miyu Yamashita, Yuka Sakazaki & Akane Miura worked well together. While Yamashita took care of Hyper Misao, Miura held Shoko Nakajima in a Torture Rack and Yamashita tightrope walked over to do the Magical Girl Kick. Yamashita then pinned Misao with the Attitude Adjustment. Yamashita now has a TOKYO Princess Of Princess Title match with Yuu to worry about.

peterpan2016-dark

The day began with father and son teaming up in the dark match. Chikara had a King Of Dark Title defence lined up and his dad Mitsuo Momota was there to help get rid of the cursed championship. Nobuhiro Shimatani was also teaming with them but it didn’t matter. Chikara got pinned by Tomomitsu Matsunaga after Momota accidentally Clotheslined his pride and joy. Still, Chikara was amazed he got to wrestle in Sumo Hall. Momota wants to wrestle a proper match in DDT and hopes Chikara will work hard to lose the title.

peterpan2016-takayama-yuni

During intermission there was news for DDT’s next major show in December, “OSAKA OCTOPUS 2016”. First there is the debut match of Yuni, an eight year old child. Yuni hopes to win the KO-D Title. In even bigger news it was announced that from September onwards Yoshihiro Takayama will be regularly wrestling for DDT! Takayama said he is coming in for DDT’s 20th anniversary to destroy everyone on the roster. He is No. 1, No Fear! Both Yuni and Takayama want to face Konosuke Takeshita.

DDT had a few announcements for their Taiwan debut this November. They will be sponsored by a bed company called Nitori. As part of this sponsorship a masked superhuman named Mask De Nitori will make his debut. Also Antonio Honda and Super Sasadango Machine will face off in a Sleep Deprivation Death Match!

DDT returns to Sumo Hall on 20th August, 2017 for “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2017”! There is also a special deal in place for the 20th Anniversary show in Saitama Super Arena next year. There will be 20 VIP seats available for 200,000 yen. There will also be another 20 VIP seats available for only 20 yen.

Muscle Sakai and director Tetsuaki Matsue are making DDT’s third movie called “Our Culture Of Pro Wrestling DDT”.

10. KO-D Openweight Title – Good Com Asset Presents: Konosuke Takeshita (c) Vs Shuji Ishikawa

Bloody right it’s been a hot summer. DDT is back in Sumo Hall for the ninth time in the the company’s existence. It is also the eighth “PETER PAN” show and the seventh “PETER PAN” held in this building. Throughout 2016 DDT was focused on the rivalry between Happy Motels and DAMNATION. The main event and the road leading to it reflects this as the youngest ever KO-D Openweight Champion takes on The Big Dawg~! of DAMNATION. The KO-D Tag Team Titles are on the line in a match where Bad Communication is fatal. The Wrestling Master teams up with a Speedball to fight a charismatic protege and a young man who feels robbed of his future. A samurai steps in when a planned foreign exchange with Funk University was cancelled. Title matches, idols, injury comebacks and plenty more are also planned for DDT’s biggest show of the summer.

0. King Of Dark Title – 6:30 Man Is Now A 1:30 Family: Chikara (c), Mitsuo Momota & Nobuhiro Shimatani Vs Tomomitsu Matsunaga, Hoshitango & Rekka

The day starts off with the King Of Dark Championship, DDT’s “Misfortune Title” that punishes the champion by forcing them to only wrestle in dark matches until they win. The title currently belongs to Chikara. No, not that one. I mean the grandson of Rikidozan and the person who finds more joy out of Chopping people than anyone else in the world. It’s all he’s good at and that’s me being veeeerrrrrrrrrry generous. Sadly for Chikara his first match in Sumo Hall involves defending this championship at 1:30pm. An upside to this is his father Mitsuo Momota wants to help him out. The three times Momota has wrestled in the building for All Japan have all been in the opening match so it’s fitting he gets to do it again this time with his son.

0. Tokyo Joshi Pro Offer Match: Miyu Yamashita, Yuka Sakazaki & Akane Miura Vs Shoko Nakajima, Hyper Misao & Yuu

Tokyo Joshi Pro is still going along four years into its existence. This year they introduced their first championship, the TOKYO Princess Of Princess Title. The first and only champion is Miyu Yamashita who won the belt when the promotion held its first Korakuen Hall show in January. She hasn’t been impossible to defeat but her wins come when they count. Her big challenge coming up is Yuu. This woman debuted at the Korakuan show and has been undefeated ever since. Her experience level in Judo helped her progress quicker than most if not all of the other girls who have wrestled for the promotion since its inception. This match here will give a little preview of their title match in September. Also keep an eye on Hyper Misao. She’s a super hero but this year has resorted to cheating and fighting dirty to win her matches.

1. DNA FIGHTS ~BATTLE OF LAST SUMMER~: Kazusada Higuchi & Daiki Shimomura Vs Kouki Iwasaki & Mizuki Watase

DDT’s development brand opens up the show proper. The match sees a step down for Kazusada Higuchi. He won the Right To Challenge Battle Royal in March but lost his the KO-D Title match a month later. Since then he’s been up and down the card teaming with other wrestlers who have similar sumo backgrounds. In DNA he is still unbeatable and is the early favourite for the DNA Grand Prix scheduled for October. Daiki Shimomura had a bad debut in March, getting injured and missing three months of ring time. He has some catching up to do but we at least found out during Beer Garden week that he can do a Shinsuke Nakamura impression. Maybe that can rub off on him. Kouki Iwasaki found some success in the DNA team that won the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles and he’s developing into a competent wrestler. Meanwhile Mizuki Watase found love and the dangers that comes with it. But that’s another story for another part of this preview.

2. Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title – Battle Royal: Joey Ryan (c) Vs Reika Saiki Vs Toru Owashi Vs Keisuke Ishii Vs Saki Akai Vs Kazuki Hirata Vs Cherry Vs Guanchulo Vs Mad Paulie Vs KENSO Vs Gota Ihashi Vs Jun Kasai Vs Yoshihiko

If you notice the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title now has a tan that’s because it spent the summer travelling across the United States, mainly California. Joey Ryan left Japan as the champion back in June and since then the belt has had quite an adventure, capturing a lot of attention along the way. Let’s look at what the list of champions during this period: a WWE Hall Of Famer, half of the Lucha Underground roster, Spider-Man, the Beyond Wrestling fanbase, Joey Ryan’s fiance, their pet cat, Vince McMahon’s star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, three entrants from this year’s WWE Cruiserweight Classic, a man with a box of cereal for a head and comedian Ron Funches. And this does not include all of the wrestlers who have previously held championships in WWE, TNA, ROH, ECW, EVOLVE, SHIMMER, PWG, CZW, PROGRESS and God knows where else. Sadly it’s time for the belt to come home to Japan where Joey Ryan is expected to defend it in the usual Battle Royal. It’s fitting for this championship that I treat its return to Japan as a chance to calm the gimmick down.

Anyway the usual cast of misfits fill up the match. KENSO who exists to annoy me has spent all summer fighting Sanshiro Takagi for a spot on this show, Mad Paulie is one of DAMNATION’s “pets”, the “Muscle Idol” Reika Saiki is this year’s eye candy and Jun Kasai is back after causing havoc at DDT’s last visit to Sumo Hall.

3. KUDO Comeback ~YELLOW DRAGON COME BACK!!~: KUDO & Masahiro Takanashi Vs Akito & Yasu Urano

KUDO finally makes his return after a bad injury to his right ACL discovered in September 2015 put him out of action. While he was gone Shuten-dōji added Kota Umeda to take his place. Masa Takanashi also changed his ring name to Masahiro Takanashi because he felt it was time to start a new chapter of his career. KUDO’s first match back is against familiar opponents. Smile Squash and Shuten-dōji wrestle against each other often so he should feel at home here.

4. NωA Road To DDT Fes 2016 ~ Sasadango Teaches The Way To Survive Showbiz: Makoto Oishi, Shunma Katsumata, MAO & Super Sasadango Machine Vs Antonio Honda, Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi, Lady Beard & Gorgeous Matsuno

DDT is working with a music festival in November and to capitalise on the event they created New Wrestling Aidoru (Idol) or NωA for short. Makoto Oishi, Shunma Katsumata and MAO were selected for the wrestling idol group and quickly recorded their first record “Never Give Up☆I LOVE YOU”. Their goal is to be good enough for a spot on the music festival but the only way they will qualify is if they get over 50,000 followers on Twitter. They thought things were going well when they forced Dick Togo to join NωA but it only took a few hours for him to graduate from the group. Some good news happened though. Masked wrestler, marketing genius and PowerPoint extraordinaire Super Sasadango Machine offered to be their manager. His latest idea is to pit NωA against another team of wrestling idols and singers. Antonio Honda and Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi were both members of a band called DPG (Dramatic Perfect Group), pro wrestling is just a side project for Lady Beard outside of his music career and Gorgeous Matsuno is an old crooner. Expect musical numbers.

5. AJPW World Jr. Heavyweight Title: Hikaru Sato (c) Vs Soma Takao

When Team Dream Futures decided to split up in May all three members went their separate ways. Two of them have struggled and since gone to do very different things. Shigehiro Irie is currently on an excursion in America to develop as both a wrestler and a grown up. Keisuke Ishii formed Fantastic Memories with Danshoku Dino hoping to recapture their success back when they were part of Belt Hunter X Hunter. The one who avoided the post-Drift slump is Soma Takao. He has beaten both of his former teammates in singles matches and has an impressive win-loss record throughout DDT. With this success came an opportunity to get what he wants most: the AJPW World Jr. Heavyweight Title. The challenge was sent to All Japan and it was accepted. After all, the champion has some history with the challenger.

Hikaru Sato has done well for himself since leaving DDT in 2014. A short stay in Union Pro saw him dominate as a big fish in a small pond. Then he went on to All Japan where he is a regular contender in the Jr. Heavyweight division. He won the Jr. Title in June and is going into Sumo Hall for his second defence but there is more to this than just a title match. In February 2011 Takao beat Sato in a No DQ Hair Vs Hair Match and shaved him bald in the middle of the ring. Soma thinks history gives him the edge over Sato. The champion is happy to wrestle at Sumo Hall for DDT again. He has fond memories of the first “PETER PAN” from 2009. Even though he wrestled in the dark match, Sato remembers being excited because everyone worked so hard to put the show together. He is reminded of that everytime he wrestles in Sumo Hall.

One last thing. Soma Takao is 7-0 at “PETER PAN” shows. Slowly but surely this is approaching an Undertaker at WrestleMania level of winning streak.

6. DDT Extreme Title – Watase Contra Watase: LiLiCo (c) Vs Danshoku Dino

Love’s precious, isn’t it? Who would have guessed when LiLiCo found a few DNA wrestlers to be her bodyguard earlier this year she would hit it off with one of them. Mizuki Watase and LiLiCo fell in love and became an item. They sought inspiration from Titanic to help LiLiCo win the DDT Extreme Title and since then the power of their love has kept the title in their possession. But now comes a man who is a big threat to LiLiCo. Not just for her championship but for her boyfriend too! Danshoku Dino is the No. 1 Contender and he thinks Watase is only in a relationship with LiLiCo to hide the fact that he’s gay. To prove it the match will be Watase Contra Watase, the winner gets Watase, the loser can never touch him again! If that’s not enough Watase is freely allowed to get involved in the match. So he can prove his love with LiLiCo is real by helping her win… Or he can prove Dino is right by helping him win? Is Dino’s claims about Watase true? Is Watase’s romance with LiLiCo nothing more than a sham? Is this a better love story than the Overwatch shipping of Pharah and Mercy I found on NeoGAF? We’ll soon find out.

7. Special 6-Man Tag Team Match: Sanshiro Takagi, Shiro Koshinaka & NOSAWA Rongai Vs Great Kabuki, Yukio Sakaguchi & Kota Umeda

Well this match fell apart. It was all supposed to be about Terry Funk. Unfortunately a hernia prevented ol’ Funker from travelling to Japan and he had to cancel his appearance. Shiro Koshinaka is bring brought in on short notice to be his replacement. Koshinaka has history in DDT by being a former KO-D Tag Team Champion with Danshoku Dino under the team name Butt Samurai. Koshinaka gets to be in the ring again with his old Heisei Ishingun stablemate The Great Kabuki. He says he is also looking forward to wrestling Yukio Sakaguchi for the first time.

8. Special Tag Match: Daisuke Sasaki & Tetsuya Endo Vs Dick Togo & Mike Bailey

There is one man I can point to as the centrepiece of DDT’s storylines this year and that man is Daisuke Sasaki. He played a role in many of the main event angles that have gone on and developed into a dangerous competitor in the process. And to think it all began with a crush. 2016 began with Sasaki all alone. The Golden☆Storm Riders had to break up when Kota Ibushi quit DDT and Suguru Miyatake blew out his shoulder. It was around this time that Candice LeRae had her first tour with DDT and Sasaki was instantly smitten with her. Like a lovesick puppy Sasaki proposed to her several times, mostly to be his tag team partner but it eventually became an offer of marriage. LeRae’s rejection left him feeling devastated but the real shock came when news of LeRae’s engagement to Johnny Gargano reached Japan. This is where you can pinpoint Sasaki’s tragic origin story if he was a supervillain. Sasaki snapped and went into a jealous rage, constantly demanding to fight Gargano at DDT shows even though Gargano was never going to get booked. He also wanted tag team title shots despite having no tag partner. Eventually Sasaki solved his problems by getting a pet dog and it is a very big dog. When “Adrian” was introduced it turned out to be Shuji Ishikawa in a giant mascot dog outfit. While the imagery of a big dog beating up wrestlers is funny (and it was) the new team were no joke and they quickly became tag team champions. Sasaki grew a mean streak and got his hands on a Right To Challenge Anytime Anywhere Contract. He used it to win the KO-D Title from HARASHIMA in April and became king of the DDT world until Konosuke Takeshita knocked him off his perch. Sasaki got a small measure of revenge though when he convinced Takeshita’s best friend to switch sides.

Tetsuya Endo saw himself as the bridesmaid of Happy Motels. This time last year he returned from an injury to face his best friend and tag team partner Takeshita at Sumo Hall. Endo lost that match but no matter, most wrestlers lose their first bout back from injury. He and his buddy soon became the KO-D Tag Team Champions and everything was great until Sasaki & Ishikawa came along. Sasaki made Takeshita pass out to the Cross Facelock at the 19th Anniversary Show but no matter, they were caught unprepared and they could get their rematch a month later. Sasaki made Takeshita pass out again in the but no matter, now Endo can chase after Sasaki’s KO-D Title. Takeshita gets the title shot first and goes on to finally beat Sasaki, becoming the youngest KO-D Champion ever. No matter, Endo got a Right To Challenge Contract around the same time. He cashes in for a fair and square title match against his best friend to prove who is truly better. Takeshita won. That’s when Endo cracks and has enough of being in his friend’s shadow. Seeing an opportunity, Sasaki crashes Takeshita’s post-match victory speech and offers Endo to join his new unit DAMNATION. Endo shocked everyone when he pushed his best friend aside and accepted the DAMNATION T-shirt! Since then Endo has found new success by embracing his dark side. Can there be anybody out there to stop DAMNATION? How about somebody from Sasaki’s past?

Four years ago Dick Togo called time on his legendary career. After saying his goodbyes in Japan he spent his final 12 months wrestling around South America in countries like Chile and Bolivia. They were his second homes and he wanted to help establish their wrestling scenes. Fast forward to 2016 and Togo is back in Japan with a burning desire to return to the ring. He still has plenty left in him and he wants to fight the new generation of wrestlers that have appeared during his absence. Everybody was happy to have him back. Everybody that is except for Sasaki. Togo’s protege was pissed off that this old man is back on the scene when it should be known to everyone that the student has surpassed his master. A welcoming hug became a low blow. Sasaki made his intentions known, he is better than Togo and will prove it. Endo also thinks that Togo should stay out of DAMNATION’s way. Togo disagrees and wants to put both of these punks back in their place. But he needs help. Togo demanded a tag team match but foolishly did so without having anyone to back him up. Luckily there was a new Canadian sensation brought in to save the day.

“Speedball” Mike Bailey has only been wrestling in Japan for a month but he is quickly winning over fans with his rapid strikes and agility. So we currently have a Canadian wrestler making waves in DDT in short time? Sounds familiar. Sounds doubly familiar actually. Anyway, Bailey was picked as Togo’s partner and he could not be more excited to wrestle with such a legend. While he holds no grudge with DAMNATION you can be sure Sasaki & Endo aren’t going to let him steal their spotlight. Sparks will fly in this one.

9. KO-D Tag Team Titles – Uchikomi! Presents: Ken Ohka & KAI (c) Vs HARASHIMA & Yuko Miyamoto

Mandatory listening for this part of the preview.

I see this as two pairs of brothers from other mothers fighting over the KO-D Tag Team Titles. Ken Ohka had a stressful year over in his home base Ganbare☆Wrestling. He had been betrayed so often that it must felt crushing to him. Thankfully a kindred spirit came along and they caught on like a house on fire. KAI from Wrestle-1 offered to help his problems. They wrestled in identical vests and jeans which in pro wrestling terms is the closest bond two people could ever make. They also like B’z which is another thing a lot of Japanese wrestler seem to bond over. So they named their team Bad Comi after the song “Bad Communication” (Did the song above end? Keep playing it) After their one match together they somehow convinced DDT to give them a title shot. An injury scare put their chances in doubt but they surprised everyone by winning the belts from DAMNATION.

Their challengers are HARASHIMA & Yuko Miyamoto, together known as Smile Yankee. The two originally tagged together for the 2015 New Year’s Eve tournament and they reached the final. A few more appearances in the summer convinced them to team more. Miyamoto even decided to join Smile Squash for the upcoming DDT Dramatic General Election. Much like their opponents, Smile Yankee have a habit of wearing identical gear during their matches. They swap between HARASHIMA’s gear and Miyamoto’s gear. Ohka doesn’t care that Yankee Smile has only ever lost once, Bad Comi are the hottest tag team in the world!

10. KO-D Openweight Title – Good Com Asset Presents: Konosuke Takeshita (c) Vs Shuji Ishikawa

This makes up the other part of the Happy Motels Vs DAMNATION feud. Since his debut at 17 years old, Konosuke Takeshita was first labelled as DDT’s Rookie Supernova and later simply “The Future”. It only took four years for him to reach the top and become the KO-D Openweight Champion, the youngest wrestler to ever do so. Losing over and over to Daisuke Sasaki in the tag team division was a tough hurdle to overcome but in May he finally did it. Since then he defended the belt against a veteran outsider (Yuko Miyamoto), a former KO-D Champion with one last golden opportunity to get the belt (Toru Owashi) and his best friend (Tetsuya Endo). Now he has to fight The Big Dog.

Forget the part about Shuji Ishikawa being Daisuke Sasaki’s “pet”. This is still a big lad and former champion who smashed through the King Of DDT tournament to get this title match. Takeshita does have a 4 minute victory over Ishikawa that happened in May but don’t expect the same thing to happen here. Ishikawa has been wrestling in several different companies this year and has taken Chops, Lariats and German Suplexes from the best of them. He also has previous experience wrestling in the main event of “PETER PAN” when he headlined the 2011 show. Takeshita thinks he can summon the fighting spirit necessary for such a special show. Ishikawa doesn’t care, he’ll just crush that spirit while providing a great match for the crowd. Then when he wins the title he will hug Sasaki in the ring to celebrate.

He’s fighting HARASHIMA because he ultimately wants to surpass him. Keisuke Ishii is also there because of their close ties together in Team Drift. They were champions together but now go their separate ways.

takeshita-crossarm-german

On the day he turned 21 years old Konosuke Takeshita made history by becoming the youngest ever KO-D Openweight Champion! In a rivalry that has been going on since February Daisuke Sasaki has been a thorn in Takeshita’s side. He had taken the KO-D Tag Team Titles from him in Sumo Hall and then prevented him from winning the belts back two months later. Both times Sasaki rendered him unconscious with the Doppelgänger Cross Facelock. Since then Sasaki won the KO-D Title with the same move and proclaimed himself as the unstoppable charismatic king of DDT. Takeshita entered the ring wearing the special ZERO mask he was given by ZERO himself in Osaka last week. Sasaki was ready to ruin Takeshita’s day when he tricked his opponent to leave the ring. Sasaki then threw him into the front row and hit a Russian Leg Sweep onto the chairs at ringside. Back in the ring Sasaki targeted the neck and shoulders and got a nearfall with the Hitman Elbow Drop. The damage was taking its toll and Sasaki found counters to the Blue Thunder Bomb. Takeshita turned the tables though and hit a No Rope Tope out of the ring onto both Sasaki and Shuji Ishikawa. Sasaki survived a Dragon Suplex and locked in the Cross Facelock until Takeshita cradled him for a two count. Sasaki went into a fit and kicked both Takeshita and Yukinori Matsui between the legs. Daisuke Kiso ran in to replace Matsui but he was given the Vietnam Driver II for his troubles. Sasaki hit a Diving Elbow Drop but Matsui was still down and unable to count any pinfall. A weary Takeshita gave Sasaki the middle finger when he was dragged up to his knees! Sasaki sat Takeshita down onto a chair and hit the Super Diving Elbow. This time Matsui was able to count but Takeshita kicked out. Sasaki took a page out of his mentor Dick Togo’s playbook and hit a Pedigree. He placed his feet on the ropes for leverage but Takeshita again kicked out! Takeshita tried to fight back but was in danger when Sasaki did La Mistica with the intention of locking in the Doppelganger Cross Facelock. Takeshita escaped the lock in the nick of time. He then blocked an Avalanche Pedigree and instead gave Sasaki an Avalanche Brainbuster for a two count. Sasaki desperately hit his flash Hurricanrana but that couldn’t get the job done. Another La Mistica was stopped with a modified Tombstone Piledriver. Takeshita did the German Suplex but that wasn’t enough. He then hit the Cross Arm German Suplex and three seconds later was crowned the new KO-D Champion!

drift-disbands

In their 100th and final match together as a unit Keisuke Ishii, Shigehiro Irie & Soma Takao put the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles on the line in their first and only defence. Win or lose Team Dream Futures are going their separate ways. Smile Squash were in the position to spoil their last dance but that did not turn out to be the case. Irie blocked HARASHIMA’s Somato with the Traffic Accident Tackle while Ishii & Takao hit Yasu Urano with a Sandwich Enzuigiri. Urano fought back and tried to set up the Razor’s Edge on Takao but Irie caught him with the Beast Bomber. Takao picked up the pieces and pinned Urano with the Gin And Tonic. He thanked the fans for supporting Team Drift for all of its 100 matches and thanked Smile Squash for being their final opponents. Team Drift agreed to vacate the 6-Man Titles and handed the belts to Amon Tsurumi. A crying Irie hugged Tsurumi after he gave him his belt.

lilico-powerpoint

In a twist, Super Sasadango Machine’s regularly scheduled PowerPoint presentation was taken over by LiLiCo before their DDT Extreme Title match. During LiLiCo’s presentation she talked about the dangers of Sasadango’s finishing move the Lehmann Shock. She learned that the move is effective because of Sasadango’s size. In order to combat this she needed hit Sasadango hard enough to make him sink just like when the Titanic sunk from hitting an iceberg. Her goal was to turn this match into the movie Titanic. It will start with posh LiLiCo Winslet meeting the poor young Leonardo Watase and beginning their tragic love story, then an iceberg will hit Sasadango (ie Watase whacks him over the head with a chair) causing him to sink. Panic strikes everyone until LiLiCo hits the Titanic Cross Body to win the championship. She will then share a passionate kiss with Watase before their tragic farewell.

lilico-titanic

The match began and Sasadango easily overpowered LiLiCo. Makoto Oishi had Sasadango’s back and did what he could to prevent Watase from interfering, such as by taping him to the corner. Watase escaped and grabbed a chair only to be stopped by Oishi again. Oishi swung the chair at LiLiCo but missed and hit Sasadango instead. Suddenly “My Heart Will Go On” played on the sound system. LiLiCo and Watase reunited in the corner and did the Titanic pose together on the turnbuckles. She hit the Titanic Cross Body on Sasadango but that only got a two count. Sasadango went for a third Lehmann Shock but LiLiCo escaped and hit the Titanic Yoshi Tonic for the upset title change! The new champion was told her first defence will happen on 3rd July. LiLiCo demanded a handsome wrestler to be her opponent so she can kick the handsome out of him!

mad-polly-splash

Sasaki’s pets teamed together for the first time. The duo Shuji Ishikawa & Mad Polly are nicknamed “Eipo” (for Adrian & Polly) and made sure to make Tetsuya Endo’s night a difficult one. Ishikawa kept Kazusada Higuchi busy while Polly flattened Endo with a Reverse Splash for the win.

dino-hell-gate

The 4 Way Trios match had an extra ingredient of mayhem added by forcing each team to start the match in a different area at ringside. When the bell rang all four teams ran towards the ring and brawled around it. Saki Akai targeted Joey Ryan in an attempt to win back the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title but she wound up getting sucked into Danshoku Dino’s “Hell Gate”. That allowed Ryan to pin Shunma Katsumata with the Super Kick. Kazuki Hirata snuck up to Ryan after the match but his roll up was blocked. Instead he was pinned by Ryan for a successful title defence. Backstage Ryan said he will bring the Iron Man Title back with him to the United States and defend it around the world so he can bring it back to Japan as a global championship.

new-wrestling-aidoru

Sanshiro Takagi invited Makoto Oishi, Shunma Katsumata & Mao Inoue into the ring after Match #2. He announced the three of them were forming DDT’s first male idol group! The reason for this is DDT will be holding a show at a music festival this November and he thinks DDT should get involved in the music aspect too. The name of their group is NωA, New Wrestling Aidoru (Idol) and their songs will be written by the songwriter for the Up Up Girls. Oishi & Katsumata like the idea but Inoue is anxious about it. Their first song is expected to be ready in time for next month’s Korakuen Hall show.

kenso-cherry

A spot in King Of DDT 2016 was up for grabs in the opening match. It is the latest attempt by KENSO to worm his way into a permanent spot with DDT. Once again he had to fight his nemesis Sanshiro Takagi but this time KENSO had Cherry by his side. Cherry was dressed as a geisha girl for the occasion but was stripped down to her swimsuit and given a Stunner by Takagi. Cherry fled from ringside and the match continued. Takagi was on the verge of winning when suddenly Ultraman Robin entered the ring. Takagi did the “Destiny” pose with Robin until Robin unmasked. It was Cherry! She threw the mask at Takagi and the distraction allowed KENSO to finish him off with the Hagakure. Amon Tsurumi confirmed that KENSO now qualifies for the tournament. KENSO thanked Cherry for helping him and encouraged her to take off the costume. This time Cherry was happy to do so and they celebrated.

kai-ohka-brothers

Ken Ohka interrupted the opening ceremonies and brought a friend along to see Amon Tsurumi. It was the WRESTLE-1 Champion, KAI! KAI greeted Tsurumi by calling him Imabayashi. Tsurumi corrected him but KAI ignored it. Ohka asked Tsurumi if he and KAI could get a KO-D Tag Team Title shot. They recently won a match together in Ganbare☆Wrestling and he thinks that is good enough to earn them a championship match in DDT. KAI excitedly agreed. Tsurumi tried to calm both of them down while figuring out what to do. He told them he would think it over.

Terry Funk and NOSAWA Rongai were announced to compete at “PETER PAN 2016” in Sumo Hall on 28th August.

DDT will return to the Handmade In Japan Festival at Tokyo Big Sight for a street wrestling match on 24th July. The event takes place on the same day as Big Japan’s Sumo Hall show so that might effect who could be available to participate in the match.

The gender-swapped characters of Akito, Ken Ohka and Soma Takao for Ring☆Dream was shown to the audience. Akito is pleased with his character because she was given the biggest bust by far in the game. It matches his desire to have the biggest pecs in DDT.

The Beer Garden Week schedule has come out. This year the series takes place inside Shinjuku FACE for six straight days of wrestling shows. The schedule is as follows:

3. HARASHIMA & Yasu Urano defeated Kazusada Higuchi & Hoshitango when Urano pinned Hoshitango with a School Boy (9:05).
4. Team Drift Goodbye Series – Monthly Young Communication Returns: Keisuke Ishii, Shigehiro Irie & Soma Takao defeated Akito, Kazuki Hirata & Yukihiro Abe when Ishii pinned Abe with the High Angle Double Arm DDT (15:30).
5. KING OF DDT 2016 Contestant Final: Kota Umeda defeated Kouki Iwasaki with the Umeda Driver I (13:57).
6. Daisuke Sasaki & Mad Polly defeated Antonio Honda & Konosuke Takeshita when Sasaki pinned Honda with La Mistica Crossface Lock (17:48).

At the beginning of the show Konosuke Takeshita told everyone that his KO-D Openweight Title shot on 29th May will also be happening on his 21st birthday. His goal is to become the youngest KO-D Champion in history. Daisuke Sasaki then entered the ring in a disguise to attack Takeshita. He kicked him below the belt but was then chased off by Antonio Honda. Sasaki Low Blowed Takeshita again in the main event. He then submitted Honda with La Mistica Crossface Lock. Sasaki tried to give Takeshita the Vietnam Driver II after the match but Takeshita escaped and knocked the champion out of the ring with a Lariat.

Kota Umeda is the first name entering the King Of DDT 2016 after he defeated Kouki Iwasaki in a qualifying match. Umeda was eliminated in the first round of last year’s tournament. He does not want a repeat of that.

Keisuke Ishii was glad to have wrestled with his Monthly Young Communication companions one more time. He was especially happy to be in the ring with Yukihiro Abe again since he wanted to wrestle him before Team Drift disbands. Abe said he would like to wrestle in DDT again if the opportunity is there.

The team of Danshoku Dino, Joey Ryan & Makoto Oishi has been described by Dino as the World’s Nudist Beach (now there’s an image to stick in your head). Late in the match Dino and Oishi positioned their bare asses selves on the turnbuckles and formed what they call the Rafflesia Flower. Ryan stuck his lolly pop into Dino’s ass and then ducked a Big Boot from Saki Akai. Her foot got trapped in between Dino & Oishi’s asses and Ryan stuck the lolly into her mouth. Ryan then rolled Akai into a pin to win the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title! After intermission Ryan talked with Amon Tsurumi and Guanchulo in the ring so he could understand the championship’s rules. Both Guanchulo and Akai tried to ambush him to win the belt but they ended up fighting each other. Akai knocked out Guanchulo with a Big Boot but Ryan then stuck another lolly into her mouth and Super Kicked her to escape with the title.

Dino & Oishi were told after their match that they will get an All Asia Tag Team Titles shot on 12th June. That is the same date as the King Of DDT 2nd Round. Oishi agreed to take the title shot and remove himself from the tournament. Dino decided to call his team with Oishi the Guname Express. He thinks it is a fitting name for them going after the All Asia Tag Titles.

Gota Ihashi’s challenger in the King Of Dark Title match wasn’t decided until right before the match. Both Tsurumi and Sanshiro Takagi were too busy to book a wrestler in the match. They both panicked and told Yumehito Imanari to be challenger. Imanari came down in his normal clothes and suddenly found himself wrestling Ihashi. He was on the verge of winning until a German Suplex went wrong. Ihashi was too heavy and landed on top of Imanari. Ihashi then hit a top rope Moonsault to win and transfer the dark match title to Imanari. Takagi handed Imanari the belt and congratulated him for a good match. He then told him to get back to work.

Tsurumi gave out details about this year’s King Of DDT tournament. It will be a 16-man elimination tournament featuring the DDT roster and the full line-up will be announced on the 29th May Korakuen Hall show. Daisuke Sasaki, Konosuke Takeshita, Danshoku Dino, Makoto Oishi and whoever holds the remaining Right To Challenge Contracts that day are not allowed to enter the tournament. Round 1 takes place on 5th June, Round 2 on 12th June and the remaining rounds on 28th June.

5. HARASHIMA & Tomomitsu Matsunaga defeated Kazusada Higuchi & Kouki Iwasaki when HARASHIMA pinned Iwasaki with the Somato (11:45).
6. MAX Lucha Libre Maximo Title & SPW South East Asian Title – Ironman Match: Daisuke Sasaki (MAX c) (2) Vs Masa Takanashi (SPW c) (2) ended in a Draw (30:00).
6a. Daisuke Sasaki (1) defeated Masa Takanashi (0) with the Vietnam Driver II (12:24).
6b. Daisuke Sasaki (2) defeated Masa Takanashi (0) with the Cross Facelock (18:45).
6c. Masa Takanashi (1) defeated Daisuke Sasaki (2) with a Cradle (22:09).

*V9 for Daisuke Sasaki. V2 for Masa Takanashi.
7. Konosuke Takeshita & Tetsuya Endo defeated Yukio Sakaguchi & Kota Umeda when Takeshita pinned Umeda with the German Suplex (14:29).

Daisuke Sasaki came out at the start of the show to announce he was defending the MAX Lucha Libre Maximo Title against Johnny Gargano. He was told that wasn’t happening and Masa Takanashi is his opponent. Takanashi came out and suggested a double title match with his SPW South East Asia Title also on the line. Sasaki accepted but only if they fought in a 60 minute Ironman match. Amon Tsurumi was worried they wouldn’t be able to fit a 60 minute match into the show but agreed to give it a 30 minute time limit after the crowd reacted positively to the stipulation. Sasaki took the first two falls with two of his finishing holds. But Takanashi scored a point when he countered the NOW OR NEVER into a Cradle. Sasaki tried to increase the lead by getting Takanashi counted out. He gave him a Brainbuster on the floor and also a Super Elbow Drop while Takanashi was sitting on a chair. Takanashi somehow found it in him to Cradle Sasaki again and even the score 2-2. The final minute had both wrestlers trying to roll up and cradle each other for a flash 3 count but the time expired with no winner determined. Both Sasaki and Takanashi had to be helped out to the back but they both yelled “Remember this!” to each other as they left.

HARASHIMA and Kazusada Higuchi had a staredown after Match #5. Tomomitsu Matsunaga stepped in between them to remind HARASHIMA he has a Right To Challenge contract.

The World’s Cutest Tag Team want a rematch with Sasaki & Shuji Ishikawa. Joey Ryan wants another shot at winning the KO-D Tag Team Titles while Candice LeRae just wants to beat the shit out of Sasaki.

Konosuke Takeshita will face HUB in Yodogawa on 22nd May. The match was put together by Yukinori Matsui when during an after show drinking party last December a drunk Takeshita told Matsui he became a pro wrestler so he could meet zero (HUB’s old gimmick). Matsui was moved by the story and wanted to make it happen.

7. KO-D Openweight Title: HARASHIMA (c) defeated Ken Ohka with the Somato (16:11).
*V1 for HARASHIMA. Ken Ohka cashes in his Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere Contract.

Ken Ohka made several appearances throughout the show before the main event. Each time he demanded HARASHIMA to come out so they could begin their KO-D Openweight Title match. But whenever HARASHIMA appeared Ohka backtracked and instead claimed he was out to get advice from the other wrestlers in the ring. The match finally happened in the main event as originally scheduled. Ohka hit the Spear Of Flame but only got a two count. He surprised HARASHIMA with a Dragon Suplex but another Spear was avoided and HARASHIMA hit the Somato to win. The champion didn’t expect Ohka to be so driven to win and was impressed by how strong he has gotten. Ohka cried and thanked HARASHIMA before leaving.

Kazusada Higuchi was invited to the ring to set up HARASHIMA’s next title match on 24th April. Higuchi said he’s been disciplining himself ever since HARASHIMA handed him his first loss in Sapporo last year. He said he has youth on his side and that is what will make him win.

Love is over! Daisuke Sasaki had to put his feelings for Candice LeRae aside as the two duked over the KO-D Tag Team Titles along with Shuji Ishikawa and Joey Ryan. At one point the canvas was covered in candy and gave Sasaki the Ball Plex onto them. But it all fell apart for the challengers when Ishikawa gave LeRae the Fire Thunder onto the candy. Sasaki was in tears and told LeRae “I’m sorry, I love you!” before hitting a Super Kick. He then gave her the Vietnam Driver II for the victory. After the match Sasaki thought it was a good time to propose to LeRae one more time but he was turned down as usual. Sasaki wouldn’t take no for an answer and tried to leave the ring with LeRae over his shoulders. The New Gen Combo came to the rescue and then challenged the champions to a rematch. Sasaki instead demanded a match with LeRae and Johnny Gargano! Amon Tsurumi said there was no chance of it happening so the New Gen Combo are now the No. 1 Contenders.

Three more Right To Challenge contracts are now in play. A Battle Royal was held with a contract given to whoever could score an elimination by pinfall or submission. Saki Akai, Danshoku Dino and Antonio Honda won the remaining contracts. Kazuki Hirata once again failed to get one. At least he still has Aja Kong.

Team DNA just barely got out of Shinjuku FACE with the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles still in their grips. Shunma Katsumata caught Kota Umeda with a cradle but the two teams continued fighting after the bell rang. When they were kept apart Katsumata said their win wasn’t a fluke, it instead proved they can’t be stopped. Their goal as champions is to beat all of the senior wrestlers in DDT.

KENSO interfered in the opening match to again ask Sanshiro Takagi if he could join DDT permanently. Gota Ihashi got involved and got in a fight with KENSO. A missed Big Boot hitting Takagi allowed Ihashi to win the match via a roll up. KENSO ignored that and went back to asking about joining DDT. He will not give up because it his his dream to join DDT and wrestle for its amazing fans. Takagi said no. He instead brought out Taiwanese wrestler Rekka and asked him to join DDT and DNA. KENSO said he wanted to join more than Rekka but he was again told no. Takagi revealed he’s been in contact with New Taiwan Pro Wrestling and was impressed with Rekka’s hard work. DDT will hold its first show in Taiwan this November and DDT hopes Rekka will become a star in time for the show. KENSO yet again tried to get Takagi’s attention so a decision was made to have KENSO Vs Rekka in Saitama on 2nd April.

In a preview of their DDT Extreme Title match next week, Shigehiro Irie pinned Super Sasadango Machine. Sasadango didn’t even realise Irie was his next opponent until after the match. But he might have learned a few clues towards what Irie’s weaknesses are.

judgement2016-2

A lot happened at DDT’s 19th Anniversary show. I mean a lot. Three title changes, a mental Falls Count Anywhere match, bare asses, new challengers determined and a few announcements for DDT’s future too. DDT also had an entire seating setup of Sumo Hall available to them instead of having one side blocked off for the entrance stage like in previous years.

judgement2016-kodmain

In the main event HARASHIMA took the KO-D Openweight Title from Isami Kodaka to become an 8-time KO-D Champion. No amount of Isamuashi Zan kicks and Zeyyari knee strikes could keep the challenger down. Once again the Somato was the difference maker. During an intense back and forth HARASHIMA hit a short range Somato and followed up with a Swan Dive version to put Kodaka away. HARASHIMA said that little difference between him and Kodaka was needed to win and he will keep on winning. He said the scenery around him in Sumo Hall was amazing and when DDT returns in the summer he’ll be ready for whoever is thrown in front of him.

When HARASHIMA’s victory speech was over a message was shown on the video screen. On 20th March, 2017 DDT will hold its 20th Anniversary show in Saitama Super Arena! Previously DDT ran the Community Hub area of the building but this time the show takes place inside the main hall! Sanshiro Takagi said he wants to chase the dream with everyone and the show ended with the ring showered in cherry blossoms raining from the sky.

judgement2016-kodtag

The KO-D Tag Team Titles changed hands when Daisuke Sasaki & Shuji Ishikawa dethroned the New Generation Combination. The former champions went down fighting though. Ishikawa took out Tetsuya Endo with the Fire Thunder but Konosuke Takeshita never tapped out to Sasaki’s La Mistica Cross Facelock. Instead the referee had to call for the bell when Takeshita went motionless. After the match Sasaki said if the New Gen Combo can hear him then they should know the future is now in his and Ishikawa’s hands. In the post-match interview the former champions said they will go back to the drawing board but they also don’t know what their next step will be. Sasaki was quick to nominated The World’s Cutest Tag Team as the No. 1 Contenders. He still wants revenge on Candice LeRae for rejecting his marriage proposal earlier this year.

judgement2016-akebono-dino

We finally got to see what Danshoku Dino wanted to do with the collection of asses he gathered for Akebono. Dino had the turnbuckle pads removed from all corner posts and in their place was the bare asses of the DDT roster! Four corners and three asses per corner meant twelve asses surrounding the ring. However Akebono had his own trick up his sleeve. He put Dino in a Lip Lock then put on a pair of Danshoku tights. He used the power of Danshoku to deliver the Danshoku Yokozuna Impact to Dino and that was the end of that.

judgement2016-suzuki-sakaguchi

Minoru Suzuki didn’t care where he was or what company he is fighting in. It could be DDT or NOAH or some joshi promotion, as long as there was a squared circle to stand in Suzuki was ready for his match. It didn’t matter that his opponent Yukio Sakaguchi is a former KO-D Champion and somebody he never faced before. He was ready regardless. Sakaguchi had the rest of Shuten-dōji in his corner and tried to go hold for hold. His attempts to hit the Right Knee Of God were foiled but he was able to lock on the Modified Cobra Clutch. The big turning point came when Suzuki hit Sakaguchi with a Dropkick. By this point Sakaguchi barely had enough energy to fight off the Sleeper Hold and Gotch-Style Piledriver. But Suzuki was quick to catch him in another Sleeper Hold and choke him out to earn the victory. Suzuki showed good sportsmanship after the match and hugged Sakaguchi. Despite the loss Sakaguchi thinks he has grown stronger because of that match.

judgement2016-treasurehunt1

judgement2016-treasurehunt2

judgement2016-treasurehunt3

Before Kota Ibushi’s comeback match began a teaser trailer played for DDT’s next movie called Dai Kaiju Mono, directed by Minoru Kawasaki. He is behind such films as Calamari Wrestler, Executive Koala, Kabuto-O Beetle, Everyone But Japan Sinks and Crab Goalkeeper. The Treasure Hunt Match began with Sanshiro Takagi & Jun Kasai carrying a locker and barbed wire board to the ring before everybody walked out of Sumo Hall to the outdoor starting area. When the bell rang there was chaos. Takagi and KENSO went straight for each other, Kasai threw Ibushi into the crowd of people watching them, everybody went over to cardboard cutouts of sumo wrestlers so they could takes pictures then Ibushi kicked Michael Nakazawa down a flight of stairs. Nakazawa was then dragged indoors to a restroom and Ibushi gave him a Piledriver into a toilet! Back in the arena everyone fought throughout the crowd and a giant hammer was brought out. KENSO and Takagi fought in the lobby and eventually found their way down to ringside. They both got on bicycles and cycled around the ring until they crashed into each other. Meanwhile Ibushi did a Moonsault from an entrance onto Nakazawa and Gota Ihashi below. Kasai brought Ibushi over to a table and climbed the top rope. He put Ibushi through the table with the Pearl Harbour Splash but he only got a two count. Back in the ring Takagi got the better of KENSO and wanted to throw him into the locker. He opened the longer and inside was former DDT wrestler Tanomusaku Toba! The kickboxer popped out and attacked whoever got in his way. Ihashi entered the ring with boxing gloves and got immediately knocked out. Ibushi entered with gloves and faired much better. Ihashi was somehow knocked out again during this by Toba and then Ibushi. In fact Ibushi lost track of what was happening and decided to beat up his partner until Toba regained his attention. Toba knocked out Ibushi and decided to leave. KENSO hit a Diving Elbow on Ibushi but his pin was interrupted by Takagi spraying him with a fire extinguisher. Nakazawa tried to clear the ring but was stopped by Kasai and a piece of the broken table. Nakazawa was then thrown into the barbed wire board. Kasai climbed the locker and hit the Pearl Harbour Splash on KENSO but Ibushi stopped the pin. With encouragement from Ibushi, Ihashi hit a Running Body Press onto both Takagi & Kasai outside the ring. Ibushi prevented Nakazawa from doing the Ultimate Venom Arm and knocked him out with a straight right hand punch. Ibushi paid tribute to Hayabusa by doing his pose before climbing the turnbuckles and then hit the match winning Phoenix Splash.

judgement2016-takagi-ibushi

After the match Takagi and Ibushi shared an emotional moment in the ring. Takagi congratulated Ibushi for his return, called him crazy and said he can now do whatever he wants to do. He hopes the Ibushi Wrestling Institute will discover new and interesting ways to do pro wrestling. Ibushi thanked him and said he would like to come back to DDT in the future. He did some backflips for the fans and then left. But KENSO was still there and he wanted to talk to Takagi. He said he came to DDT to chase after Takagi but then discovered DDT is the best and their fans are the best. So he wants to join DDT! Takagi instantly refused and demanded his music to cut off KENSO’s mic. KENSO asked again and Takagi instantly refused again. KENSO asked one more time and this time Kasai stepped in to offer his opinion. Kasai thinks a psychopath like KENSO joining DDT wouldn’t be a bad idea. Takagi thought about it but said no and left the ring to his music while KENSO fainted.

judgement2016-ultimate

The Ultimate Royal Barbed Wire PowerPoint No Power Blast PWF Rules match began with Super Sasadango Machine doing a PowerPoint presentation on a laptop that was surrounded in barbed wire and rigged to explode in 5 minutes. Thankfully there was no explosion because Sasadango got to explain the rules of the match within the time limit. He was joined by four men wearing Machine masks and he called them the Sasadango Machine Army. During the match a wrestler can pull out one of three Ultimate Royal cards. Doing so would activate Ultimate Royale Mode and the Machine Army will attack their opponent to the music of Chocoball Mukai’s entrance theme. Oh and the cards have a drawing of The Ultimate Warrior on them. Sasadango pulled out a card while Kendo Kashin had him in an Indian Deathlock. Kashin stole the second card and used it to turn the Army against Sasadango. This time they and also Yukinori Matsui wore Kashin masks. Kashin tried to lock in the Cross Armbreaker when Sasadango pulled out the final card. Matsui switched the Kashin mask with a Machine mask and fast counted the pin to make Sasadango the new DDT Extreme Champion!

judgement2016-fujinami

There was really nothing that Antonio Honda & Hiroshi Fukuda could do to beat Tatsumi Fujinami & LEONA. Even Fukuda singing “Macho Dragon” to distract Fujinami so Honda could sneak attack him didn’t do much in the long run. Fujinami said wrestling in Sumo Hall again for the first time in years made him feel nostalgic. LEONA admitted to being nervous by teaming with his father in such an important building. LEONA was asked in an interview if he would like to wrestle in DDT again in the future and he answered “By all means, please.” Fujinami thinks it will be good experience for him to do it.

judgement2016-lilico

LiLiCo now stands triumphant over the Kawaii Connection. She escaped from Makoto Oishi’s Miracle Ecstasy and locked on a Manjigatame after Kota Umeda softened Oishi up with a Back Spin Kick. LiLiCo bragged about her success and credited it to being beautiful and eating good meat because she will forever be a carnivore. Saki Akai snuck up and gave her a School Boy to try and win the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title but LiLiCo kicked out. Umeda & Mizuki Watase then blocked off Akai from any further attacks. LiLiCo demanded revenge and said she will keep her schedule open for the 24th April Korakuen Hall show.

judgement2016-3waytag

Team Drift came out on top in the 3 Way Tag match. Joey Ryan’s penis got to do the voodoo that you do so well and Candice Lerae delivered a double Ball Plex as part of a Tower Of Doom spot but she was then taken out with a Black Hole Slam from Shigehiro Irie. Akito tried his best to stop Irie but the Beast Bomber put an end to him and the match. The World’s Cutest Tag Team were still happy to wrestle in Sumo Hall and noted that although they didn’t win, they didn’t take the fall either. Keisuke Ishii felt confident about the win and revealed his goal is to now main event Sumo Hall. Irie is also disappointed that he went from headlining Sumo Hall a few years ago to wrestling in an undercard tag bout although he is happy he won with his friend Ishii.

judgement2016-rtc-rumble

The show began with the first Right To Challenge Rumble to take place inside Sumo Hall. Kazuki Hirata entered at No. 1 hoping to grab a contract before anyone else could but someone was always there do stop him. Ken Ohka easily grabbed the first contract when he headbutted Hirata off of the ladder. Tomomitsu Matsunaga grabbed the second when he spat Lotion Mist at Hirata and he fell. Hirata was able to pull down the third contract when Soma Takao Dropkicked him off the ladder but the contract slipped out of his hands and Toru Owashi picked it up to win possession. One more was left and Hirata fought his heart out to claim it, escaping Kazusada Higuchi’s Canadian Backbreaker to step up the ladder and grab his prize. The Rumble part of the match continued and Higuchi outlasted both Takao and Ryota Nakatsu to win. Higuchi now has a KO-D Title shot on 24th April in Korakuen Hall. The contract holders returned to reveal their prize. Ohka, Matsunaga and Owashi all got Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere Contracts as expected. Hirata however got something different. His prize is a date with Aja Kong! She came out wearing HIRATA GO! glasses and she told Hirata they will go out dancing together. Hirata ran away and Kong chased after him. When that was done Ohka announced he will not wait long to cash in his contract. He wants his title match to take place on 26th March in Shinjuku FACE! Matsunaga and Owashi declined to say when they will cash in their contracts.

judgement2016-basara

Sumo Hall got a taste of heavy metal when FUMA’s team won the BASARA match. Although SAGAT is not a part of Kotetsu Gundan he fit in pretty well with his aggressive wrestling style. His GOREGRIND followed by Yusuke Kubo’s Goro Suplex left Daichi Kazato as an easy picking for FUMA’s HEAVY METAL ANTHEM Diving Elbow finisher.

judgement2016-dna

Mao Inoue’s return to action in the DNA match ended with him on the winning team. He wiped out Kouki Iwasaki and Rainbow Kawamura with the Alien Plancha allowing Guanchulo to set up Nobuhiro Shimatani for Shunma Katsumata’s Lightning Spiral.

judgement2016-joshi

Poison Sawada JULIE appeared in the Tokyo Joshi Pro Battle Royal with his protege Poison Miura. He tried to eliminate everyone with his snake magic but Hyper Misao stopped him and eliminated Miura. When the match came down to three girls the Fighting Comedians double-teamed Miyu Yamashita to eliminate the TOKYO Princess Of Princess Champion. Yuka Sakazaki then pinned her teammate with a Leg Clutch Backslide to score the biggest win of her career.

judgement2016-dark

DJ Nira won a match in Sumo Hall. This is the first sign of the apocalypse. Seiya Morohashi was pretty lackadaisical with a pin attempt and Nira capitalized by shifting his dead weight on Morohashi’s shoulders.

DDT announced plans of an overseas expansion for later this year. They will hold a show in Taipai, Taiwan this November at the ATT SHOW BOX. The show is being sponsored by Nitori, a brand of furniture stores.

After the dark matches were over Amon Tsurumi and Mita Sayoko announced the winners of this year’s Dramatic Awards.
