6. KO-D Openweight Title: Shigehiro Irie (c) Vs Keisuke Ishii

Current Right To Challenge Contract Holders: Keisuke Ishii (cashes in at this show), Daisuke Sasaki and Yuji Okabayashi.

The Monster Army are launching the counter attack to reclaim the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles. This time they have added heavy artillery in the form of Hoshitango taking Daisuke Sasaki’s place. Could Sasaki’s absence on the card be a hint that he will cash in his contract?

The 2013 KING OF DDT tournament will take place on three shows. Round 1 will be held at Shinjuku FACE on 28th June, Round 2 will be in Nagoya Telepia Hall on 6th July and the remaining rounds will be held in Umeda Nasci Hall the day after. The winner of the tournament will get a main event KO-D Title shot at DDT’s biggest event of the yeat, the 18/8 Sumo Hall show. The entries this year are Sanshiro Takagi, Kota Ibushi, Kenny Omega, HARASHIMA, KUDO, MIKAMI, Danshoku Dino, Yasu Urano, Makoto Oishi, Masa Takanashi, Takao Soma, Akito, Konosuke Takeshita, Antonio Honda, Hikaru Sato and Yukio Sakaguchi. The first round draw will be held straight after the 23/6 Korakuen show.

5c. Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere 3: HARASHIMA (16:40).
5d. Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere 4: DJ Nira (19:34).
6. KO-D Openweight Title: Shigehiro Irie defeated Kenny Omega (c) with the Vertical Drop Back Flip (24:29).
*Kenny Omega fails in V4. Shigehiro Irie becomes the 45th KO-D Openweight Champion!

The torch has been passed, Shigehiro Irie is the first in his generation of DDT wrestlers to win the KO-D Openweight Title! Over the last two years, Irie has taken big steps towards the top beating such DDT and Union alumni like Kota Ibushi and Shuji Ishikawa. One person he could never get the best of was the champion Kenny Omega. Almost a year ago Irie went through rigorous weight loss training in order to wrestle Kenny for the AJPW Jr. Heavyweight Title. Today there was no weight limit handicapping the Teddy Bear. It wasn’t easy, Omega fought tooth and nail to keep his title but Irie’s heart was just that little bit bigger. A Vertical Drop Back Flip attempt was rearranged into a Thunder Fire Driver, knocking Omega silly and leaving him vulnerable to another Vertical Drop Back Flip. That one connected and three seconds later Irie was swamped by his Team Dream Future stablemates and handed the KO-D Title belt.

Irie couldn’t believe he won. He couldn’t believe he beat Kenny Omega. He thanked the audience for chanting his name and he thanked his friends for supporting him. Tsurumi Amon dampened the celebrations by telling Irie that there are now four wrestlers with Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere contracts and Keisuke Ishii is one of them. Ishii stepped in and said he won’t be cashing in his contract until the time was right for him and Irie. Sanshiro Takagi awkwardly congratulated Irie, clearly resisting temptation to cash in his contract there and then. Irie’s first challenger Yukio Sakaguchi appeared on the ring apron and simply stuck out his fist. Irie placed his elbow against the fist in response as if to say “Challenge accepted,”

The Royal Rumble Ladder match had 5 prizes in total on the line. Literally. Four envelopes hung from a cable above the ring. Two of the envelopes had a smiley face on them. The other two had the skull and bones symbol. It was up to the competitors to climb up ladders and fight amongst each other to reach them. When somebody pulled down an envelope they played no further part in the match. Meanwhile, Battle Royal rules were also in effect with the overall winner getting a KO-D Title shot on 13th April. Yukio Sakaguchi won the Battle Royal portion. With the title shot in his grasp, Sakaguchi now feels like he is part of the DDT family.

Sanshiro Takagi, Keisuke Ishii, HARASHIMA & DJ Nira were the four wrestlers who grabbed the envelopes. They were called into the ring after the match to open the envelopes and reveal their prizes. It turns out all four envelopes contained Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere contracts that allowed the holder to challenge the KO-D Champion to a title match at any DDT show from now until 3rd August. However, to even the playing field a new rule was added. The contracts can now change hands if the contract holder is pinned, submitted or knocked out at any wrestling show in Japan! Hiroshi Fukuda suddenly ambushed Takagi and pinned him with a School Boy but as he celebrated with Takagi’s contract, Tsurumi Amon told him the rule was not 24/7 and only comes into play during actual wrestling matches.

K-1 fighter Kizaemon Saiga had a successful debut in DDT teaming with his friend Kota Ibushi to defeat Yasu Urano & FUMA. They won by using a Doomsday Spinning Heel Kick with Saiga performing the kick. During the backstage interview afterwards Saiga said he had fun but was in a huge amount of pain. He hopes to do both MMA and wrestling. Ibushi was nervous for his friend but Saiga’s performance proved how compatible he is with pro wrestling. In regards to the Doomsday Kick, Saiga said it was the first time he ever did a Jumping Kick from that height. He called Ibushi his teacher and wants to fly and bounce around the ring like he does.

The 2013 King Of DDT tournament will begin at Shinjuku on 28th June. Round 2 will be held in Nagoya on 17th July. The semi-finals and final will take place in Umeda later that month. The winner will earn a KO-D Title shot at the 18/8 Sumo Hall show.

Danshoku Dino is getting his own show on DDT’s Nico Douga Channel. The show is called Danshoku Matchmaking. If this does not turn out to be DDT’s version of Blind Date with Dino playing the role of Cilla Black, I will be disappointed.

7. King Of DDT 2012 – Final: Kenny Omega defeated Danshoku Dino with the One-Winged Angel (20:18).

Kenny Omega is your King Of DDT for 2012! Omega survived two hard fought battles with HARASHIMA and Danshoku Dino to win the tournament and earn the big prize of a spot in the main event of Budokan Hall next month. What is even more exciting is that Omega’s match will be against his B.F.F. Kota Ibushi for the KO-D Title. It will be their first singles match against each other since 2008. The only thing that can ruin this now is DJ Nira cashing in his “Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere” contract and somehow beating Ibushi (or Low-Ki being a prick and injuring Ibushi during their upcoming New Japan match, which is more likely).

During Kenny’s victory speech, he said that even thought not everyboy are fans of him, they are all fans of DDT. There are people in Osaka that are DDT fans. There are people in Japan that are DDT fans. There are even people worldwide that are fans of DDT. Kenny promised that he will bring his best performance for his match against Ibushi and that match will be the best performance of the Golden Lovers.

Ibushi responded by saying he had mixed feelings about now having to face Omega. He is glad that Omega won but there will now be tension building between the two the closer they get to the big show. He has exceptional respect for Kenny’s ability and he nows how dangerous he can be. Ibushi feels the pressure but he is also looking forward to the match and promises it will be great.

The semi-finals began with Omega defeating HARASHIMA. The former KO-D Champion expressed disappointment and frustration that he was now unable to compete in the Budokan Hall main event. He also praised Kenny for his strength. Danshoku Dino beat KUDO in devastating fashion with the brand new Danshoku Drivaaaaahhhhh!!!!!, the top rope Danshoku Driver that spikes the opponent’s head into the top turnbuckle. When KUDO recovered he was also disappointed in losing. However, he had no regrets an was impressed with Dino for twice creating a new move in order to beat him in the last year. He is also looking forward to new challenges including those that involve his KO-D Tag Title run with Makoto Oishi.

The show began with Yasu Urano, Antonio Honda, Masa Takanashi & Daisuke Sasaki all entering the ring to announce the formation of a new unit. They along with Hoshitango and Yuji Hino were now known as the Monster Army (no, not the one from HUSTLE). To show their unity and sudden rise of power, the Monster Army demanded that the 4 Way Tag Team match be changed into an 8-Man Tag Team Elimination match. Tsurumi Amon was confused by the sudden change of events but reluctantly gave in and made the match. Unfortunately for the Monster Army, theit first match ended in failure thanks to Keisuke Ishii & Shigehiro Irie. Although the Army were able to eliminate Tomomitsu Matsunaga & Tetsuya Endo to create a 4-on-2 advantage, Ishii & Irie defeated the entire side one after the other until they were the only ones left standing.

DDT announced the debut of another new rookie wrestler. Konosuke Takeshita is from Osaka, 186cm high and weighs 85kg. He and Ishii had an in-ring demonstration before Amon revealed that his debut match will be at the Budokan against El Generico. When asked to give comment, Takeshita said “I think this company is crazy, as expected.”

DJ Nira and Hideki Shiota fought each other for the brand new Osaka Omoroi Gate Title. The physical belt does not exist yet so Tsurumi Amon had to hold up and invisible belt as part of the usual pre-match championship presentation. The title would be won by the wrestler that was more interesting and entertaining during the match. However, Amon kept yelling at both competitors for being too boring as they fought each other. Shiota eventually won the match but the title wound up being vacated and disposed of because it wasn’t interesting enough.

6. KO-D Openweight Title: Kota Ibushi defeated Yuji Hino (c) with the Phoenix Plex (21:12).
*Yuji Hino fails in V2. Kota Ibushi becomes the 42nd KO-D Openweight Champion!

The Golden Star has completed his climb back to the top of DDT! After a 20 minute battle with the K-DOJO powerhouse Yuji Hino, the KO-D Openweight Title is now around the waist of Kota Ibushi for the second time in his career. Ibushi dug deep and defeated Hino with the Phoenix Plex, a move Ibushi had only previously used once before against HARASHIMA at Sumo Hall back in 2009. Now he waits for the KING OF DDT 2012 winner to meet him in Budokan Hall.

Or maybe not. Someone had to come in and spoil the party and that someone was DJ Nira. As Ibushi was celebrating with his title belt, DJ Nira stepped into the ring and told Ibushi that he is not the only person who is eligible to compete in the main event of Budokan Hall. Nira showed his “Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere” contract to Ibushi, shook his hand and then left the ring. Will Nira really cash it in at Budokan Hall?

This defeat continues the recent bad period Yuji Hino has had with championship matches. Not only has Hino lost the KO-D Title and the KO-D Tag Team Title, he also lost the STRONGEST-K Tag Team Title earlier this month in K-DOJO. Just goes to show how fickle a pro wrestler’s fate can be.

The nWJ shocked everyone when the fourth man turned out to be Yoshiaki Fujiwara! Tsurumi Amon could only watch on helplessly while his team were getting destroyed by Sanshiro Takagi and his group. After the mtch, Amon considered quitting his role as DDT General Manager. However, Katsuji Nagashima stepped in and encouraged Amon to stay in the job. With the war against Tsurumi Amon seemingly won, Takagi now gets to focus on his upcoming match against Minoru Suzuki in Budokan Hall. Takagi asked Fujiwara to coach him for the time being and Fujiwara accepted the offer.

Takagi was then joined in the ring by Masayuki Sato, the editor in chief of Weekly Pro-Wrestling to announce a special issue of the magazine will be released during the run up to the big show to celebrate DDT’s achievements.

A special opening video will be created for DDT’s 15th Anniversary show. DDT will be teaming up with manga artist Yoichi Takahashi, the creator of the famous football series Captain Tsubasa to make an animated video to open up the big event. If my translation is correct, the video will be about the DDT roster playing a game of football that leads them over to Budokan Hall. So imagine those Nike and Addidas advertisements but with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo replaced with Danshoku Dino and Michael Nakazawa.

Tensions are mounting between HARASHIMA and Shigehiro Irie. Even though HARASHIMA won the latest match between the two, they continued fighting after the bell. Fans won’t have to wait long for their next encounter as you will see below.

The joshi tour is over for the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title. Now it is going over to China. Tsukasa Fujimoto was able to make it to today’s show despite losing the belt yesterday to Tsukushi in Ice Ribbon, who then lost it to a ring mat. The title then went back to Fujimoto and after a few more title changes she survived the Battle Royal as champion. At least until Choun-Shiryu snuck up on her, pinned her and then ran off with the belt.

That wasn’t the only story coming out of the Iron Man Title match. Before it began, video footage was shown of Danshoku Dino entering a bar owned by former DDT and Toryumon wrestler Toru Owashi. Dino met with Owashi and pleaded him to return to DDT. Owashi refused and kicked Dino out. The Battle Royal would then be interrupted by further video footage of Owashi looking depressed over his decision. Owashi’s mother slapped some sense into him and off he went to Korakuen Hall. When Owashi finally arrived, everyone in the ring gave him a Rocket Punch. Owashi then announced he will return to the DDT ring at Budokan Hall.

MIKAMI will return to action at DDT’s next Korakuen Hall show on 22nd July. DDT is also hoping to bring in Tatsumi Fujinami.

The lottery to determine the first round for KING OF DDT 2012 was held at the end of the show. The matches are as follows:

Tomomitsu Matsunaga Vs Masa Takanashi
Kenny Omega Vs Daisuke Sasaki
Michael Nakazawa Vs Hikaru Sato
Shigehiro Irie Vs HARASHIMA
Keisuke Ishii Vs Takao Soma
KUDO Vs Antonio Honda
Yasu Urano Vs Makoto Oishi
Akito Vs Danshoku Dino

No unexpected match-ups there. Each of the pairings are very familiar with each other by now. Akito was quick to leave a message on Twitter saying as much as he admires Dino, his goal is to win the tournament not just as a DDT wrestler but as a Sportiva Entertainment wrestler too.

7. King Of DDT – Final: KUDO defeated HARASHIMA with the Diving Double Knee Drop (18:07).

KUDO has won the King Of DDT tournament and will face the KO-D Openweight Champion at the main event of Sumo Hall on 24th July. KUDO and HARASHIMA battled long and hard for 18 minutes in the main event. In the end, it was KUDO who was left standing tall. Now he has the KO-D Openweight Title in his sights. Will Shuji Ishikawa still be champion by the time Sumo Hall comes or will either GENTARO or Takao Soma take his place?

KUDO’s trip to the final involved getting past Kenny Omega. He survived a Power Bomb into the turnbuckle aswell as a Thunder Fire Power Bomb and was able to avoid the Croyt’s Wrath. Omega attempted an Avalanche version of his finisher but KUDO escaped and trapped Kenny’s legs in the ropes, leaving him hanging in the air. KUDO then jumped onto him with a Diving Knee Drop. He drilled Kenny with Buzzsaw Kicks and despite a scare involving the Hadouken and a Backslide Pin, KUDO finally put Omega away with another combo of Buzzsaw Kicks.

HARASHIMA had a brick wall called Shigehiro Irie standing in his way. Irie hoped to beat HARASHIMA like he did Kota Ibushi and tried to end the match quickly with a barrage of Elbow Smashes. The plan didn’t work and HARASHIMA ended Irie’s chance to win the tournament. It took a few High Kicks to keep Irie off his feet but HARASHIMA was able to knock him down and then knock him out with the Somato.

Danshoku Dino was finally defeated by one of Bob Sapp’s Assassins. This time the assassin was Gaylon Summers, the American wrestler who has had a few Union appearances this year. Gaylon won with a modified version of the Choke Slam. This being a Danshoku Dino match, you can pretty much guess the modified move was a Crotch Slam. Dino was very upset after the match. His dream is to fight Bob Sapp but he cannot do it if he loses to Sapp’s assassins. Bob Sapp sent a tweet saying if Dino cannot fight him at Sumo Hall, then Gaylon Summers will take his place. Angry at the news, Dino suddenly kissed Gaylon and gave him the Danshoku Driver.

The winner of the Kyoto Royal Rumble would get to ask Tsurumi Amon for whatever they wanted. When Michael Nakazawa won the match, he asked Amon for a title shot. His request was denied for now and he was given a match for 4th June instead. If he wins, Tsurumi may give Michael what he wants.
