BIG “G” BANG Title Shot, Olé Yankee, GENTARO’s Family Grudge

April 19, 2012

UNION “GOLDEN UNION 2012”, 04/05/2012
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

0. Union League Experiment: Madoka, SAGAT
1. Handicap Match Of Love: Hiroshi Fukuda Vs Rion Mizuki & Rumi Kazama
2. Goro Tsurumi, El Hijo del Goro & Goro Jr Vs Big Rude, Black Spider Clutch & GENTARO
3. Age Contra Makeup: Cherry Vs Mio Shirai
4. New Sanshiro Takagi Vs New Keizo Matsuda
5. Hiro Tsumaki Triumph: Hiro Tsumaki & Kengo Ohka Vs Isami Kodaka & El Generico
6. BJW Tag Team Title: Yoshihito Sasaki & Shinobu (c) Vs Shuji Ishikawa & Shigehiro Irie
7. DDT Extreme Title – ??? Match: Yuko Miyamoto (c) Vs Ken Ohka

As DDT Extreme Champion, Yuko Miyamoto gets to decide what match he and Ken Ohka will have for the belt. He will announce it sometime before the show takes place.

Back at the Big Japan/Union joint show, BIG “G” BANG defeated Yoshihito Sasaki & Shinobu in a hotly contested match-up. Since then, Sasaki & Shinobu have become the BJW Tag Team Champions. Due to their victory over the new champions, Shuji Ishikawa & Shigehiro Irie have now been given a title shot that will take place in Union. This match takes place a day before Ishikawa faces Abdullah Kobayashi for the BJW Death Match Title at Big Japan’s biggest show of the year. So Shuji could wind up with two Big Japan titles in two days.

Isami Kodaka is looking forward to teaming with El Generico for the first time. After their battles over the Extreme Title, he now thinks they will have a lot of fun tagging together. However, Isami does not have the same views on Kengo Ohka. He doesn’t exactly hate Kengo, it’s more of a strong dislike of the man. The wild card of the match is Hiro Tsumaki, who has been absent from Union for several months. Turns out he spent his time away from Union by wrestling for Okinawa Pro. Kodaka does not know what Tsumaki has learned during his time in Okinawa or what to expect from his return. Even though the match is titled “Hiro Tsumaki Triumph” Isami also wants the match to be called “Union Next Stage.”

Big Rude abducted GENTARO in an attempt to have him wrestle against the Tsurumi family. During the press conference for the event, Big Rude brought in a blindfolded GENTARO into the room and over to the table before revealing what he wanted from him. GENTARO has a bad history with Goro Tsurumi and his two sons. Their grudge began over an incident involving vegetable oil that took place in Mexico many years ago. GENTARO agreed to help Rude fight the Tsumaki clan and Black Spider Clutch has also been added to their team. GENTARO said he heard a rumour that Clutch once ate a baby. That’s probably not the most reassuring thing to tell someone who will be tagging with the guy.

The Union League Experiment continues with at least Madoka and SAGAT involved in the latest offering. It has not been decided yet if anymore wrestlers will be involved on the night.

2. Handicap Match Of Love: Hiroshi Fukuda Vs Rion Mizuki & Rumi Kazama
3. Age Contra Makeup: Cherry Vs Mio Shirai
4. DDT Extreme Title: Yuko Miyamoto (c) Vs Ken Ohka

On his 35th birthday, Ken Ohka became the No. 1 Contender for the DDT Extreme Championship. The eternal underdog is now getting the rest of Union cheering him on when he goes up against Yuko Miyamoto. But all of Ohka’s momentum and enthusiasm might be dashed once Miyamoto announces what sort of match they will have for the DDT Extreme Title.

Cherry’s age is at risk of being revealed yet again. Mio Shirai is determined to have Cherry reveal her secret and has challenged her to a match over it. Cherry accepted but turned the tables by daring Mio to go out without makeup should she lose. This will be a match where the greatest stakes are on the line. Neither will want to lose.

Hiroshi Fukuda’s relationship problems continue to get worse. Not only did Rumi Kazama ditch him for Rion Mizuki, now Hiroshi has to face both of them in a Handicap match. Will his feelings for Rumi get in the way or will he be able to move on with his life and defeat Rion Mizuki.

Also taking part in this show are Hiro Tsumaki, El Generico and American wrestler Barking Spider Clutch (or Kurokumo Clutch as some Japanese sites call him).

2. Kana & Mio Shirai Vs Hikaru Sato & Michael Nakazawa

DDT’s promise to produce more shows throughout Japan will come to fruition with the Road To Budokan tour starting in April. So far there are six shows that are part of the tour.

The Triple Tails.S team of Kana & Mio Shirai have a nasty surprise ahead of them in Yokohama. Hikaru Sato & Michael Nakazawa, aka Do Hentai Dan will be waiting for them. Last time Nakazawa was in the ring with Kana he tried all he could to get his hands on her. Last time he was in the ring with Mio Shirai, she and her sister stripped him naked. So yeah, this match could get perverted real quickly.

The big stories coming from today’s show in Korakuen Hall may sound like something out of an April Fool’s joke, but DDT really does have some big plans in store for the future. Not only that but we got two surprising title changes, both involving the came championship.

The main event saw Sanshiro Takagi lift the KO-D Openweight Title for a record sixth time. But after defeating Danshoku Dino in a hard fought battle, he was in no way, shape or form ready for the sudden cashing in of the Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere contract won by Masa Takanashi earlier in the night. Masa told Takagi he would make him the shortest champion in history and when the show finally ended,  Masa Takanashi was left standing as the most unlikely KO-D Champion in recent memory. But now that Masa has the gold, a huge threat already has him in his sights.

Yuji Hino won the Battle Royal portion of the Right To Challenge series. He now gets to face Masa for the KO-D Title on 4th May. Masa won the first of two Right To Challenge contracts for the KO-D Title. He is the first wrestler in DDT to cash it in successfully. The other KO-D Title contract was won by DJ Nira of all people! Tomomitsu Matsunaga has the KO-D Tag Team Title contract and will get to choose whoever he wants to cash it in with. Keita Yano has the contract that allows him to set up a DDT show wherever and whenever he likes (DDT still gets a big cut of the earnings). That left the Ken Ohka Anytime, Anywhere contract as the last prize to be fought over. Except nobody wanted it. However, Makato Oishi didn’t keep track of which contracts were taken and he dashed up the ladder when the opportunity arose. Everyone else just stood around the ladder and let him grab the contract. So now Makoto can become the next Ken Ohka whenever he wants.

Kota Ibushi returns to the ring on May 4th and his big comeback match is against the lucha phenom that has taken DDT and Union by storm over the last year… El Generico!!! With both wrestlers famed for their high action matches that often spill outside the ring, this match could be insane.

Kyohei Wada was the referee for the AJPW Jr. Title match. Shigehiro Irie made his entrance wearing Road Warrior shoulder pads that matched his wrestling gear. Even though he could not defeat Kenny Omega, he was highly praised by the champion. Kenny said that Irie will someday be the biggest star in DDT. Kenny also asked the audience to support himself and Michael Nakazawa when they enter the All Japan Jr. Tag League in April.

Hard Hit will hold its next show on 3rd June.

Kana will return to DDT on 8th April along with the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title.

DDT’s strategy presentation for the rest of the year included several pieces of information:

1. DDT wants to add more local shows to their schedule. They will now go to Sopporo twice a year, Hakata three times, hold a big show in Osaka in September, hold two Street Pro Wrestling events and have the annual Beer Garden series take place from 29th July to 4th August. There will also be other shows in smaller towns.

2. Kota Ibushi, HARASHIMA & KUDO are now on Twitter. You can follow them at @ibushi_kota, @HARASHIMA_DDT and @KUDO_DDT.

3. DDT will also be releasing their own video app for the iPhone in the coming months. First release will be a trilogy of Bookstore Pro Wrestling matches which will be available in April.

4. The Budokan Hall show will feature the debut of their latest rookie, a 16 year old high school student named Konosuke Takeshita (竹下幸之介). He is from Osaka, born 15th May 1995, height is measured at 186cm and he participated in shot put at high school.

5. DDT will also begin streaming their shows online with a service called Nico DDT Live and DDT Wrestling Hour. They will have a bi-weekly live broadcast and also air recorded footage every other Thursday with the videos available to watch over two days. First live broadcast will be the 8th April event in Shin-Kiba 1st RING. The streams will be free to watch, at least for the first few shows.

6. Last but not least, a pro wrestler audition has been set up by DDT with Seiya Morohashi (aka Big Rude from Union) in charge. He hopes to see a wide range of applicants coming through.

One last thing, there was an announcement for the official DDT 15th Anniversary theme song being created by J-Dance acts Sunplaza Nakano and DJ Yosshi. The song will be called “Under The Big Onion” and a music video will be created to go along with it. You know how Tokyo Dome is nicknamed the Big Egg? Well Budokan Hall is nicknamed the Big Onion.

Irie Makes Weight (Sort Of)

*Five contracts are on the line.
5. AJPW Jr. Heavyweight Title: Kenny Omega (c) Vs Shigehiro Irie
6. KO-D Openweight Title: Danshoku Dino (c) Vs Sanshiro Takagi

DDT held a weigh in for Shigehiro Irie that would decide whether or not he would qualify for an AJPW Jr. Heavyweight Title shot against Kenny Omega on Sunday. The weigh in was open to the wrestling media to avoid any suspicious results. However, when it was time for Irie to step on the scales he weighed in at 107kg! He was weighed again and the result was the same. They weighed him one more time and this time he came in at 101kg. I don’t know how Irie suddenly dropped 6kg but he is now officially eligable for the title shot.

Irie said he was happy to finally qualify for the title shot. Omega said that he wants the match to show the future of DDT. He thinks Irie will become the ace of DDT in the future but he is not the ace right now. When a reporter asked Irie how he lost all of the weight, Irie said he didn’t eat any rice for weeks. When asked if he is worried about losing strength due to the weight loss, Irie simply said “I’m happy.” Kenny was then asked to compare Irie with his previous challenger Shuji Kondo. Kenny said they are completely different. He will fight fair with Irie because DDT is family.

Tsurumi Amon today held a press conference to explain the rules for the Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere Contract Battle Royal. There is also some new information on what prizes are on offer. The rules are as follows:

– It is a Royal Rumble match with the bonus of having five seperate envelopes hanging above the ring. Inside each envelope is a contract. The first competitor to grab hold of an envelope will win the prized contract kept inside. Nobody knows which envelope contains which contract.

– The winner of the Battle Royal itself will earn a KO-D Openweight Title shot to be held on May 4th in Korakuen Hall. When a competitor wins a contract he takes no further part in the match.

– Elimination occurs by pinfall, submission, disqualification and being thrown over the top rope and having both feet the floor outside.

– A competitor only gains possession of the contract when the taking of the envelope is approved and confirmed by Tsurumi Amon. The General Manager’s decision is final.

– There are four different prizes on offer with a total of five contracts on the line.

1. “Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere”: The contract holder gets to challenge for the KO-D Openweight Title at any DDT event at any time until the 15th Anniversary show in Budokan Hall on 18th August. Two of these contracts will be on the line.

2. “Right To Challenge Tag Anytime, Anywhere”: The contract holder and a partner of his choice gets to challenge for the KO-D Tag Team Title at any DDT show, at any time until the 15th Anniversary show in Budokan Hall on 18th August.

3. “Performance Rights Anytime, Anywhere”: The contract holder gets to set up his own DDT show at anytime in any location. Of course, the holder is obligated to pay a fee to DDT based on box office earnings. There is no deadline in place for when the contract expires.

4. “Ken Ohka Anytime, Anywhere”: The contract holder can choose to become the next Ken Ohka at anytime. Being Ken Ohka will involve the person becoming a shop manager for DDT and hanging out with female wrestlers while having ulterior motives.

As you can see, there are many prizes on offer. Tsurumi Amon explained that he wants to give the DDT roster as many chances as possible to get involved in the Budokan Hall show.

The winner of the Royal Rumble itself gets a KO-D Title shot on 4th May.

While his tag team partner is competing in the main event, Takao Soma will be teaming up with Genba Hirayanagi from Pro Wrestling NOAH to take on the Do Hentai Dan team of Hikaru Sato & Michael Nakazawa.
