1. Miyu Yamashita defeated Mirai Maiumi with a Backspin Kick (7:57).
2. Nodoka Tenma & Yuki Aino defeated Yuki Kamifuku & Haruna Neko when Tenma pinned Neko with the Killswitch (10:00).
3. Hyper Misao defeated Mahiro Kiryu with the Hipami Returns (7:36).
4. Hikari Noa defeated Sena Shiori with the Uranage (6:25).
5. 3 Way Match: Maki Itoh defeated Mina Shirakawa and Pom Harajuku when Itoh submitted Harajuku with the Itoh Special (8:17).
6. Rika Tatsumi & Miu Watanabe defeated Yuna Manase & Raku when Watanabe pinned Raku with the Tear Drop (11:!5).
7. Yuka Sakazaki & Mizuki defeated Shoko Nakajima & Suzume when Sakazaki pinned Suzume with the Magical Girl Splash (8:51).

Everybody in Tokyo Joshi Pro was excited to wrestle again. Yuka Sakazaki admitted after the main event that everyone was nervous to have their first PPV match so there was a lot of trial and error for today’s show (such as everyone cutting pre-match interviews). The good news is Tokyo Joshi can begin to run shows in front of audiences again starting in June. However Mizuki said she would like TJPW to do more PPV shows alongside the return of a more normal schedule. The Magical Sugar Rabbits were also pleased that the show registered 155,040 stream Yells from the OPENREC audience.

Hikari Noa said she has been friends with Sena Shiori for about five years. Their match today was not between friends but to show that Noa is Shiori’s senpai in the ring.

Hyper Misao came out wearing sunglasses and a leather jacket. She called herself Max Pasa and talked about taking over Tokyo Joshi from “TK” (Tetsuya Koda but it would be just as funny if it was Tony Khan). She told Koda she will find the next generation diamond in the rough to turn this company around. She tried to make Mahiro Kiryu audition for her but it turned into a match instead.

News Comes As Restrictions Get Lifted

May 26, 2020

I hope everybody out there is feeling well and finding ways to cope with the sad news about Hana Kimura. Dylan from the Eastern Lariat podcast tweeted a magazine photo of the time when an 8 year old Kimura won the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title, which I think was her only connection to DDT. There would have been a working relationship between her and Sanshiro Takagi in WRESTLE-1 as well back when Takagi was part of its management.

There’s a quick story I want to tell. When I last went to Tokyo in 2016 I got to see a Sendai Girls show with a group of friends in Korakuen (the 8th April one). Kyoko Kimura was wrestling in the opener and Hana was there as her ringside attendant. This was only a few weeks after her pro debut and it was her only role on the show. I didn’t think anything of it at the time. The next day I spoke to an American expat and talked about the show. Before I even finished a sentence he cut me off and asked “Was Kyoko Kimura’s daughter there? She is going to be a star!”

1. Jun Akiyama Vs Hideki Okatani
2. Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title: Danshoku Dieno (c) Vs Antonio Honda
3. DAMNATION VS ALL OUT!: Daisuke Sasaki & Soma Takao Vs Shunma Katsumata & Yuki Iino
4. Yoshihiko & Akihiro Vs Konosuke Takeshita & Akito
5. #DAMNHEARTS Vs DISASTER BOX!: Tetsuya Endo, T-Hawk & El Lindaman Vs HARASHIMA, Yuki Ueno & Naomi Yoshimura

Figures from past and present are returning as Japan opens up again. The #STRONGHEARTS pair of T-Hawk & El Lindaman rejoin Tetsuya Endo to protect him from losing before his big title match. Yuki Ueno has spent all of this time during the pandemic looking after the Dropkick Bar. He gets to wrestle again for the first time in almost two months.

The second battle doll Akihiro came back in Yoshihiko’s time of need to defeat ALL OUT. The feud isn’t over yet when revenge is on offer.

Third time’s the charm for Danshoku Dieno Vs Antonio Honda.

Two thirds of the next DDT UNIVERSAL Title match face off in tag action.

Hideki Okatani showed his stuff by fighting Seigo Tachibana to a time limit draw in the match that took place after the last episode ended. Jun Akiyama should have lots to teach him.

GANBARE☆WRESTLING “HIMITSU 2020”, 03/06/2020
???

1. 4 Vs 4 Survival Tag Match: Keisuke Ishii, Yumehito Imanari, Shinichiro Tominaga & Kouki Iwasaki Vs Shuichiro Katsumura, Shota, Washi Sakurai & X

At last Ganbare☆Wrestling gets to have a go at an empty arena match. Here’s a neat concept for the match. We have two teams with 4 wrestlers each. When the match begins two wrestlers from each side are selected to wrestle a tag team match. When a wrestler is defeated by normal means they are replaced by a new teammate and the tag match continues. To win the match, a team must eliminate three of their opponents.

As you can see, one team has a mystery wrestler advertised. I’m surprised to see Ken Ohka or Moeka Haruhi aren’t involved. Haruhi being there would have meant all members of THE HALFEE were in the match on the same side. This is the only match of the show too.

3. DDT Yuru-chara No. 1 Battle In Niigata: Super Sasadango Machine Vs Pokotan
4. DDT UNIVERSAL Title – Hardcore 3 Way Match: Daisuke Sasaki (c) Vs Isami Kodaka Vs Shunma Katsumata

The new plan for “WRESTLE PETER PAN 2020” is to hold it under the DDT TV SHOW format across two days. It’s not the mega show it is going to be but under the current circumstances it keeps DDT chugging along as light appears at the end of the tunnel.

Daisuke Sasaki wanted his next title defence to be easy and violent. That is why he nominated Shunma Katsumata to be his next challenger. The twist is the sudden appearance of Isami Kodaka getting involved. Kodaka heard about DDT’s new UNIVERSAL Title and wanted to add it to his ever growing list of accomplishments.

I bet the DDT roster are happy to see Saori Anou again.

3. Super Sasadango Machine Remote Produce Match: Toru Owashi Vs Antonio Honda
4. DDT Extreme Title – Celebration! Release Restriction Rules: Shinya Aoki (c) Vs Yukio Naya
5. KO-D Openweight Title: Masato Tanaka (c) Vs Tetsuya Endo

Endo is so close to his final goal. He tripped up once before but reclaimed the KO-D Challenger Sword and just has to avoid a direct defeat one more time. Once he does that, Masato Tanaka will be there waiting for him with the KO-D Openweight Title held tightly in his grip.

The state of emergency in Tokyo has been lifted and the restrictions across Japan are easing off. Shinya Aoki will use the uplifting news as inspiration for his next DDT Extreme Title defence. Yukio Naya is stepping up as the challenger.

This show is taking place on Nodoka Tenma’s birthday! She is happy to spend the day fighting against the three strongest wrestlers in Tokyo Joshi Pro. Her team with Yuki Aino & Rika Tatsumi is called Bakuretsu Dragon.

BASARA “BASARA 129 ~BANQUET~”, 14/07/2020
Shin-Kiba 1st RING

1. IRON FIST Tag Titles: Tsutomu Oosugi & Banana Senga (c) Vs Gouma Ryu & Ryuji Ito
2. Union MAX Title: Fuminori Abe (c) Vs Isami Kodaka

BASARA are playing it safe and have cancelled their last remaining show in June. Instead their first show back will be in July at Shin-Kiba 1st RING. Normally this is the Banquet all you can drink show but that system will be suspended and the seating rearranged to accommodate social distancing. For now they are numbering the show #129. The last BASARA show that took place was #126 (I’m amazed I’ve been able to keep track of the chapter numbers for so long). If that sticks then it means #127 & #128 are forever lost to the cancellations.

The two title matches that were originally going to take place in April are now finally going to happen in July. Fuminori Abe must be chomping at the bit to prove his worth as Union MAX Champion by now.

1h. Maki Itoh Vs Yuki Aino ended in a Time Limit Draw (5:00).
1i. Miyu Yamashita defeated Sena Shiori with a Low Kick (2:42).
1j. Miyu Yamashita defeated Mahiro Kiryu with a High Kick (1:46).
1k. Hyper Misao defeated Miyu Yamashita with a School Boy (3:58).
1l. Miu Watanabe defeated Hyper Misao with the Tear Drop (3:26).
1m. Raku Vs Miu Watanabe ended in a Time Limit Draw (5:00).
1n. Shoko Nakajima defeated Mina Shirakawa with a Cradle (2:57).
1o. Shoko Nakajima defeated Mirai Maiumi with a Hurricanrana (3:41).
1p. Rika Tatsumi defeated Shoko Nakajima with the Missile Hip (3:42).

Each bout in the Gauntlet match had a 5 minute time limit with 2 Count Pins needed to win. Time limit draws eliminated both wrestlers. It went down to the team captains so no Hunter’s Chance match was needed. Rika Tatsumi defeated Shoko Nakajima in the final match to win the Genghis Khan Kirishima prize for her team. Another fight broke out among the girls when Tatsumi received the prize and she tried to give it to Mizuki. The chaos stopped when Miyu Yamashita made everyone dance to end the show.

Yuka Sakazaki was taken off the show because she had a mild fever on the day of the show. She did recover in time to compete but was stayed at home as a safety precaution. The competition became an even 10 Vs 10 series instead of the planned 11 Vs 10 handicap.

Spring Is Blooming But Everything Will Probably Get Cancelled Anyway

March 23, 2020

Who knows how much of this will stick in the next few days. I’m writing this while hearing the Olympics are likely to get postponed until next year. If that’s going down then no way does the pro wrestling schedule in Japan for the rest of the year remain unscathed.

Ryuichi Sekine Vs Minoru Fujita looks like a de facto No. 1 Contender’s match for the Union MAX Title. Don’t know why else two Sento Minzoku wrestlers would face off against each other. Then again I’ve been struggling to follow BASARA ever since the split so I have to be missing the context for it.

To keep Sakazaki from feeling lonely on top for much longer, a 4 Way Match will be held this week to determine her next challenger. The options are the previous champ Miyu Yamashita, Sakazaki’s regular tag partner Mizuki, superhero trickster Hyper Misao and breaking out of the pack Yuki Aino.

Team Yellow: Yuka Sakazaki, Rika Tatsumi, Natsumi Maki, Nodoka Tenma, Raku, Pom Harajuku & Suzume

A three team battle determined by costume colours was the theme for today’s dojo show. Tetsuya Koda kept the card a mystery outside of match formats until the start of the show. Shota announced each of the matches then revealed the prize for the winning team was tickets to Asakusa Hanayashiki, Japan’s oldest amusement park.

First up was Maki Itoh representing Team Red against Team Blue’s Sena Shiori. Itoh caught Shiori with a DDT off the ropes for the win. Itoh wants to stop wrestling in the dojo because nobody is there to answer her question “Who is the cutest in the world?”

Team Yellow then had their first match and got their first points when Rika Tatsumi beat Mina Shirakawa. Tatsumi tried to trap Shirakawa in the ring apron so she would get counted out but she made it back in at 19. Tatsumi countered the Implant DDT with the Twist Of Fate. She then got the three count with the Missile Hip.

Team Yellow continued their winning ways when Natsumi Maki beat Mahiro Kiryu. Maki pulled Kiryu’s hair to break out of a Crab Hold and did not let go until she was given a Spinebuster. Kiryu ran to the ropes but was caught in the Backlash to suffer another defeat for Team Blue.

Then it was time for something different. The 3 Way Match took place under 5 Rounds lasting 2 minutes each. Every wrestler would begin the match with 3 points. They lose 1 point if they are pinned for a 2 Count or if they submit. From the 2nd Round onward they can lose 1 point if they perform a banned action decided by a Twitter poll. Only the referee knows what the banned action is. The match ends when either all 5 rounds are done or if one wrestler is reduced to 0 points. The winner is whoever has the most points when the match ends. Hyper Misao and Pom Harajuku teamed up to pin Miyu Yamashita for a 2 Count. Yamashita then pinned Harajuku when she Body Slammed Misao on top of her. In Round 2 the banned action was “Speaking English”. Misao lost a point when she called for the Hero Correction System. She didn’t understand why she was penalised until the rule was revealed at the end of the round. In Round 3, Irish Whips off the ropes were illegal. Yamashita lost a point when she whipped Misao off the ropes. The banned move for Round 4 was never revealed because the match ended here. Harajuku lost a point for Irishi Whipping Yamashita off the ropes. Misao tried to strangle Yamashita with her cloak but Yamashita wrapped the cloak over Misao’s head and then kicked her with a High Kick. Yamashita went for the Attitude Adjustment but Harajuku suddenly rolled her over with a School Boy to take away Yamashita’s last point. The match ended and even though Harajuku got the final pin, Misao had one more point than her so she was the winner!

The show went back to normal with the tag match. Okay except for the part where Yuna Manase & Hikari Noa force fed Nodoka Tenma a banana. Noa pinned Suzume with the Uranage to give Team Blue a two match winning streak.

Mirai Maiumi wore similar makeup and clothing as Yuki Kamifuku so they could match together as a team. Shoko Nakajima purposely rubbed the makeup off Maiumi’s face while they wrestled. Kamifuku got revenge by drawing on her opponent’s faces with lipstick. In the end, Nakajima pinned Maiumi with the Northern Lights Suplex. She and Miu Watanabe laughed at each other’s messy faces after the match. Shota said they both looked like Princess Mononoke.

With Team Blue out of the running, the main event was down to Team Red and Team Yellow. Raku got rid of Mizuki, leaving Yuka Sakazaki to fight Yuki Aino. The two scrambled between the Magical Merry-Go-Round and the Venus DDT. Sakazaki took down Aino with a Low-Lying Lariat then hit the Magical Magical Girl Splash to make Team Yellow the overall winners!

The victory ceremony went a little off the rails. Tatsumi wanted to give her theme park pass to Mizuki. Sakazaki attacked Mizuki and suddenly everyone started fighting! Tatsumi yelled that the last ones standing would win the prize as the show finished. Team Yellow eventually got their prize back.
