The new King Of DDT is not from DDT at all. After a strong singles run in Big Japan, Union’s very own Isami Kodaka has now scored success in DDT and will be one half of the main event at “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2014”. Kodaka earned that spot by beating two of DDT’s most decorated wrestlers. In the semi-finals of the tournament KUDO defeated Shigehiro Irie and Kodaka beat Kota Ibushi. The latter match featured a crazy moment where both Kodaka and Ibushi fought each other on top of the entrance gate. In the final Kodaka attempted to use El Generico’s Brainbustaaaaahhhhh!!!!! but KUDO escaped. Kodaka then tried the European Clutch he used to beat Ibushi but that also did not work. KUDO fought back with Spin Kicks and High Kicks but Kodaka countered it into a Brainbuster and finally won with the Zan Isamu Leg. Kodaka dedicated the win to Union and will go on to face the KO-D Openweight Champion.

But who the champion will be on 17th August is the question. HARASHIMA found out who his next challenger is before Kodaka and also came close to losing the title at the same time. Kenny Omega pinned Yasu Urano in the 3 Way Tag Match to win his Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere Contract. Kenny said he wants to be in the main event at Sumo Hall and the only way he can do that is to win the championship from HARASHIMA. Kenny then challenged HARASHIMA to a title match at the final Korakuen Hall show before Sumo Hall on 20th July. And then Super Sasadango Machine’s music started playing…

Sasadango came out with the other remaining Right To Challenge Contract and said he wanted to be the KO-D Champion. He spent the past few months researching what it would take for him to become champion. He then showed a PowerPoint presentation of his research. He concluded that he needed a powerful special move in order to win so he came up with what he calls the Vertical Drop Lehman Shock (imagine Prince Devitt’s Bloody Sunday but without hooking the arm). According to Sasadango, hitting the Lehman Shock three times is all he needs to deplete all of his opponent’s HP. He was going to prove it right away because he then cashed in his contract! Sasadango hit the Lehman Shock over and over (and got the crowd to chant “One More Time!” after every one) but HARASHIMA just kept kicking out. The champion recovered and hit Sasadango with a High Kick and the Somato. That was all it took for a successful title defence. After the match HARASHIMA identified Sasadango as Muscle Sakai and said his research was interesting but forgot something very important. HARASHIMA can recover up to 80% health from the support of his fans and tonight he was restored to 90%. He still thought it was a fun match though.

takeshita-tanahashi

Tsurumi Amon announced a big match that he believed would attract a lot of attention for “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2014”. DDT’s rookie phenom Konosuke Takeshita will take on New Japan superstar Hiroshi Tanahashi! The star made his entrance, played his air guitar, unbuttoned his shirt and introduced himself as the once in a century talent. He then told Takeshita he was looking forward to their match. Takeshita’s response was that he is a one in 200 million million years including the Jurrasic Era talent and his ability outweighs all!

takagi-kasai-suzuki-nakazawa

Michael Nakazawa was the sole survivor of the Elimination Match but not without the surprise help of his new ally. Nakazawa had a surprisingly good showing in the match, eliminating everyone in Sanshito Takagi’s team. When the match came down to Nakazawa and Takagi, Nakazawa used referee Daisuke Kiso as a shield from a Takagi Lariat. Then he wiped out replacement referee Yukinori Matsui with the Ultimate Venom Arm. Nakazawa called out the next replacement referee, Minoru Suzuki! Tsurumi Amon complained about Suzuki’s appearance but immediately backed down when Suzuki looked at him. Takagi pinned Nakazawa but Suzuki counted slowly until there was a kickout. Nakazawa rolled over Takagi and Suzuki did a fast count but Takagi kicked out. Takagi got angry at Suzuki and got put in a Sleeper Hold for his troubles. Suzuki then planted him with the Gotch-Style Piledriver and Nakazawa covered Takagi to win the match. Nakazawa taunted Takagi after the match and told him to quit before he faces himself and Suzuki at Sumo Hall. Takagi said they will have a Street Wrestling match and his partner is Jun Kasai! The Crazy Monkey appeared and stood face to face with Suzuki. He simply told him “Nice to meet you”.

ibushi-10

Kota Ibushi will celebrate his 10th anniversary in wrestling during July. He has two DVDs coming out featuring his best matches for DDT and New Japan respectively. There will also be a 10th Anniversary show in Osaka on 13th July. Ibushi gets to decide the card for the show but fireworks will be prohibited.

Tokyo Women’s Wrestling members Miyu Yamashita and Erin announced a special Tokyo Joshi show on 11th July in Ichigaya for the injured Ririko Kendo. Kendo is currently out of action with injuries to both her left and right arms. Afterwards Shigehiro Irie and Akito announced DDT will be part of “KENGO TAKAI AID” in Sportiva Arena on 6th July. Freelance wrestler Kengo Takai fractured his ankle and several wrestlers from around the scene are coming together to raise money for him. KUDO and Yukio Sakaguchi will also be on the card.

DDT will do another photobook with photographer Leslie Kee. The book will be called Super DDT.

1. Kenny Omega & Daisuke Sasaki defeated Keisuke Ishii & Soma Takao when Omega pinned Takao after the Freedom Call (7:50).
2. 4 Vs 3 Handicap Match: MIKAMI, Yukio Sakaguchi, Tetsuya Endo & Michael Nakazawa defeated Hideki Shiota, Sanshiro Takagi & Gota Ihashi when Sakaguchi pinned Shiota with the PK (8:38).
3. King Of DDT – Round 2: Shigehiro Irie defeated Antonio Honda with the Beast Bomber (14:56).
4. King Of DDT – Round 2: KUDO defeated Tomomitsu Matsunaga with the Diving Double Knee Drop (16:11).
5. HARASHIMA, Yasu Urano & Akito defeated Danshoku Dino, Makoto Oishi & HAYATA when Urano pinned Oishi with the Tombstone Piledriver (13:24).
*Yasu Urano wins Makoto Oishi’s Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere Contract.
6. King Of DDT – Round 2: Kota Ibushi defeated Masa Takanashi with the Sit Down Last Ride (12:53).
7. King Of DDT – Round 2: Isami Kodaka defeated Konosuke Takeshita with the Brainbustaaaaahhhhh!!!!! (20:05).

The King of DDT semi-finals are now set. Shigehiro Irie will face KUDO while Kota Ibushi will face Isami Kodaka. Irie’s Beast Bomber has become a very effective finisher in recent months and here it was used to put away Antonio Honda. KUDO made sure that Tomomitsu Matsunaga would not beat him like he did Kenny Omega. Despite losing, Matsunaga now has a new attitude based on his strong performance in the tournament and will make it to the top one step at a time. Ibushi fought against a spirited performance from Masa Takanashi to win his match. Finally Kodaka took a page from El Generico’s book and defeated Konosuke Takeshita with the Brainbustaaaaahhhhh!!!!!

A lottery was held to determine the semi-finals. Each qualifying wrestler had to pull a ball out of a box and whoever picked the same colour would face each other. Oddly enough the resulting matches would have happened anyway if the tournament was organised with a playoff bracket from start to finish.

Makoto Oishi must now regret pulling out of the King of DDT. He left the tournament after winning one of the two remaining Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere Contracts. But he waited too long to cash in and wound up losing the contract to Yasu Urano when Urano pinned him in a Six-Man Tag Team match. As a contract holder, Urano now has to worry about whether or not he should cash in on his friend and team mate HARASHIMA. The other contract holder at the moment is Super Sasadango Machine who has done the smart thing and stayed away from the wrestling often, reducing the risk of him losing the contract. When he decides to get his KO-D Title match, only he knows.

The Handicap Match was originally billed as Shiota-gun Vs DDT Sekigun. But Sanshiro Takagi told Hideki Shiota he never had permission to add him to his new unit. So Shiota instead renamed the match the Shiota New Organisation Raising An Army Assessment Match. When asked what the name of his new organisation was, Shiota called it Salt Japan Pro Wrestling.

4. Kikutaro defeated Guanchulo with the Shining Kikuzard (14:31).

*Daisuke Sasaki wins Kazuki Hirata’s Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere Contract.
6. Keisuke Ishii & Shigehiro Irie defeated Antonio Honda & Tomomitsu Matsunaga when Ishii pinned Honda with the High Angle Double Arm DDT (10:40).
7. KUDO, Masa Takanashi & Yukio Sakaguchi defeated Danshoku Dino, Makoto Oishi & Akito when KUDO pinned Oishi with the Buzzsaw Kick (13:55).

After scoring the pin in the main event, KUDO called out for any of the Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere Contract holders to come out and challenge him. When none of them came out he then turned his attention to his next confirmed challenger Akito and talked about their upcoming match KO-D Openweight Title match. Akito told him it was going to be a war and he is the future of DDT.

Keisuke Ishii is utterly focused on getting an All Asia Tag Team Title shot. He yelled out “Akiyama!” before he delivered an Exploder Suplex to Tomomitsu Matsunaga in their tag match. He and Shigehiro Irie also have a new double team move called the Go 2 Irie Sleep. It involves Ishii lifting up his opponent in the Go 2 Sleep position while Irie kneels down beside them. Ishii then throws the victim face first into Irie’s head. After the match Ishii showed a video of himself confronting Jun Akiyama and Yoshinobu Kanemaru demanding a title shot. Both of them rejected the challenge and walked off. The video then showed Ishii approaching Akiyama in a public toilet only for Akiyama to yell at him “I’m pissing, go away!” Back in the building Ishii said he will got to Akiyama’s dojo to ask again and he will record the meeting to show at next week’s show in Kawasaki.

With the Monster Army disbanded both Daisuke Sasaki and Antonio Honda decided it was time for a fresh start. Sasaki asked if he could team with the Golden Lovers (but not with Gota Ihashi). Both Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega said he could but they were then interrupted by Sanshiro Takagi, Toru Owashi & Kazuki Hirata. Takagi challenged them to a Lucha Libre 6-Man Tag match. Sasaki worked well with the Golden Lovers, he even pulled off the PK Mind with Omega to win the match. Amon Tsurumi granted the new trio a KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Title shot for the 12th April Kasukabe Hall show. Omega said he was reluctant to have Sasaki on his team instead of Ihashi but admitted they were a powerful team regardless.

Guanchulo cashed in his Right To Face Your Favourite Wrestler Contract to get a match with Kikutaro before he returns to Chile on 28th May. Kikutaro used his tricks to get Yukinori Matsui involved in the match and they proved to be the deciding factor. Afterwards Kikutaro thanked Guanchulo for choosing him to be his opponent.  Danshoku Dino announced the return of Danshoku Ranch Classic will happen on 20th May and it will be a farewell show for Guanchulo. He will also put his DDT Extreme Title on the line against Guanchulo in Kasukabe Hall on 12th April.

The DDT trainees Shunma Katsumata and Shun Miyatake pleaded with Amon Tsurumi to let them have another exhibition match. They were both unhappy that their bout at “JUDGEMENT 2014” ended in a draw. Miyatake also wants to prove he is ready to debut properly. Tsurumi allowed the match to happen with the stipulation that Miyatake will earn his debut match if he wins. Miyatake wasn’t able to capitalise on his oppotunity and lost to Katsumata in 91 seconds.

HARASHIMA and Yasu Urano will continue to team together under the name UraShima. They are willing to team with other wrestlers but have no plans to recruit a third member.

DDT held two late night shows in Shin-Kiba 1st RING. The second show was dedicated to a one night arm wrestling tournament called the GO-1 CLIMAX. The winner would get a ¥50,000 cash prize. The final turned out to be a preview for the 13th April main event as Kota Ibushi and Konosuke Takeshita took each other on, with Ibushi winning. Takeshita told Ibushi he beat his right arm but his left arm is stronger.

After losing his Right To Challenge Contract earlier in the night, Kazuki Hirata quickly replaced it with Masa Takanashi’s contract after he pinned him in a 10-Man Tag match. Hirata spent the night wearing a Magnum TOKYO mask in between his matches.

The night ended with a performance of Hulk Hogan Gymnastics by Antonio Honda.

6. KO-D Openweight Title: KUDO defeated HARASHIMA (c) with the Diving Double Knee Drop (19:54).
*HARASHIMA fails in V7. KUDO becomes the 47th KO-D Openweight Champion!

DDT celebrates its 17th Anniversary with a new KO-D Openweight Champion! After seven months of dominating the main event scene, HARASHIMA was finally knocked off his throne by his former ally KUDO. The new champion gloated about how his win was the result of him leaving UraShimaKudo and he would wait for a rematch anytime. HARASHIMA and Yasu Urano glared at KUDO but both left. With the former champion out of the way, KUDO now has a whole host of new challengers ahead.

The annual free for all that is the Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere Contract Battle Royal returned with six prizes on the line. A KO-D Title shot at Korakuen Hall on 29th April was the prize to the winner of the Royal Rumble portion of the match. The other portion was a Ladder Match with five contracts hanging above the ring, four of them with smiley faces and one with a skull on it. Tetsuya Endo, Masa Takanashi, Kazuki Hirata and Super Sasadango Machine each grabbed a smiley face contract, giving them a KO-D Title shot whenever they want. Guanchulo got the skull contract which turned out to be the right to challenge his favourite wrestler to a match. Akito last eliminated Konosuke Takeshita to win the Rumble match and get next month’s title shot. At the end of the show Akito told KUDO that there will be no more HARASHIMA’s challenging him because he will win the belt. The current generation on top in DDT will not last forever and he is here to be the future.

Guanchulo cashed in his contract and decided to have a match with Kikutaro. The match will take place on 29th March. The other contracts can be cashed in at any show until 2nd August. But just like last year, contracts can change hands if the holder is pinned or submitted in any match held inside Japan. Amon asked if anyone was going to cash in their contract before the April Korakuen show. Endo said he wants to cherish the contract because it’s his first time, so he will not cash it in yet. Sasadango also declined because he wants to train for his title match. Takanashi said he will not betray his “big brother” and will not challenge KUDO. Hirata was the only person who said he will cash in his contract at Korakuen next month.

Retired DDT wrestler Atsuo Sawada was a guest at the show and spoke about the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title that he originally created 14 years ago. He said it was amazing that the championship is close to crowning its 1,000th champion. The 999th champion Sanshiro Takagi knew all too well about this since he was chased by Gorgeous Matsuno and Gota Ihashi throughout the show. During his speech celebrating DDT’s 17th Anniversary, Takagi announced he was sealing the Iron Man Title. Takagi said 999 was a nice number for the title lineage to end and he was also sick of wrestlers constantly attacking him. Sawada protested because he created the title to be defended all the time and to be won by any wrestler or thing. Takagi tried to convince Sawada to accept the decision by comparing the number of title reigns to Galaxy Express 999 but eventually gave up. Amon Tsurumi then announced that the title will be defended in Kasukabe Hall on 12th April.

Despite losing all three matches in their trial series, Michael Nakazawa & Tomomitsu Matsunaga finally impressed Amon Tsurumi with their performance. Their KO-D Tag Team Title defeat to the Golden Lovers got Tsurumi to say “Michael & Matsunaga did real good!” Kota Ibushi called both wrestlers strong in the post-match interview but he and Kenny Omega also pointed out that there are no immediate challengers for them to face next.

The Monster Army had its final battle and for the occasion Antonio Honda asked the opposing team if they could drop their guard so the entire Army could do a surprise attack one more time. After the match Honda said the unit will live on in his breast. His nipple to be exact.

Keisuke Ishii has been left feeling depressed after he and Soma Takao failed to win the All Asia Tag Team Titles in All Japan last Tuesday. That match was Ishii’s second chance to win the belts and he came up short again. He considered giving up the challenge and no longer chase after the belts. Amon Tsurumi encouraged Ishii to not give up and if Ishii couldn’t win the belts with Takao then he should try again with Shigehiro Irie. He instructed Ishii to record a video of himself asking for another title match and to send the video to Jun Akiyama.

New trainees Shunma Katsumata and Shun Miyatake fought to a five minute draw in a pre-show exhibition. Afterwards Tsurumi announced that Katsumata will have his debut wrestling match on the next Korakuen show on 29th April. Miyatake asked when he was going to debut. Amon was surprised by the question and told Miyatake that he is 100 years too early to even talk about having a debut.

DDT will get a new show on Samurai! TV soon. The show is called DDT Wrestling Banzai \(^o^)/.

– KO-D Openweight Title: Shigehiro Irie (c) defeated Daisuke Sasaki with the Vertical Drop Back Flip (10:58).
*V6 for Shigehiro Irie. Daisuke Sasaki cashes in his Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere Contract.

Shigehiro Irie now has the record for the most KO-D Openweight Title defences in a single reign thanks to back to back defences in Korakuen Hall tonight. First off, Irie’s friend and Drift stablemate Keisuke Ishii cashed in his Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere Contract as scheduled. Takao Soma said in the pre-match video he was worried that his two friends knew each other so well something bad could happen because of it. He chose no side by standing in the neutral corner outside the ring for the entire match. Irie defeated Ishii but had little time to rest as Daisuke Sasaki (who according to himself was not scheduled to be on the show due to injury) suddenly appeared and cashed in his contract for an immediate title match. Irie showed he had the heart of a champion and was able to defeat Sasaki to keep the championship. Then Yuji Okabayashi arrived with his contract and told Irie to “polish the beautiful belt” because he will cash in his contract next month at the 21/7 Korakuen show. That’s if he does not lose the contract to somebody else before then of course.

That wasn’t the end of the KO-D Title planning. Irie requested a KO-D Title defence against his mentor Sanshiro Takagi and for it to be held in Nagoya. Irie noted that Takagi beat him in a singles match back in January and also beat him in a tag team match the last time they wrestled in Nagoya, the city where he began his wrestling career. Tsurumi Amon said it was impossible to book the match. Takagi wanted it and said he would forfeit his spot in the King Of DDT tournament to make the match happen. Amon backed down and booked the match for Nagoya Telepia Hall on 6th June. Once all of that stuff was over with, Keisuke Ishii reappeared to congratulate and shake hands with his friend Irie.

The Monster Army’s counter attack on the Golden Rendezvous was a success. They are once again the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Champions! Danshoku Dino & Makoto Oishi threw out a challenge to the new champions and gave a hint that their third partner is somebody who hates Antonio Honda. The title match is booked for the 21/7 Korakuen show.

Yukio Sakaguchi’s younger brother Kenji Sakaguchi will compete at “PROGRESS AND HARMONY OF WRESTLING” the first of DDT’s two shows in Sumo Hall this year on 17/8. Kenji is a former soccer player turned actor. The main event for the show will be Kota Ibushi Vs Danshoku Dino.

The newest Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion is a painting created by Akihiro Miwa. The Iron Man Battle Royal will be held again in Sumo Hall for the “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2013” show on 18/8.

The King of DDT 1st Round draw was held in the ring after the show. The matches are Kenny Omega Vs MIKAMI, Takao Soma Vs X (Takagi’s vacant spot), Konosuke Takeshita Vs Masa Takanashi, Kota Ibushi Vs Yasu Urano, Antonio Honda Vs Makoto Oishi, Danshoku Dino Vs Yukio Sakaguchi, Hikaru Sato Vs Akito and HARASHIMA Vs KUDO.

Not sure if it was curiosity or an insult but Guanchuro asked Tetsuya Endo if he is a virgin during the dark match. The bout was Aggressor’s last match in Japan for the time being.

Okabayashi defeated DDT’s contract holder Kazuki Hirata at a Big Japan show held today in Yokohama. Kazuki was overwhelmed by the power of his opponent and the results was no surprise. Yuji wasn’t quite sure what the rules of the contract was, but when it was explained to him he said he would like to challenge Shigehiro Irie for the KO-D Openweight Title someday.

2. KO-D Openweight Title: Shigehiro Irie (c) Vs Keisuke Ishii

The main event will change if Keisuke Ishii loses his Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere Contract at any show before then. The contract is the only claim Ishii has to a title shot and he has confirmed he will cash it in at Korakuen Hall. Between now and then he risks losing the contract to either a member of Ura-Shima-Kudo, a member of the Golden Rendezvous or Akito. If Akito beats Ishii, he will also cash it in at Korakuen Hall and take on Irie for the KO-D Title.

Isami Kodaka and Yuko Miyamoto are scheduled to wrestle on the show, most likely teaming together.

Meanwhile Sayaka Obihiro showed up with the intention of cashing in her contract. However, Emi Sakura advised her not to do it and instead challenge DDT wrestlers to win or buy back the contract at their next Gatoh Move show.

Kenny Omega and DJ Nira worked well together as a team but their moment of inspirational teamwork backfired spectacularly. Omega held up Nira into the Croyt’s Wrath and Nira would then launch a Rocket Punch from that position. However, Makoto Oishi snuck up behind them on his hands and knees. Omega tripped over Oishi and in the process hit Nira with the Croyt’s Wrath. Oishi then pinned Nira to win the match.

Guanchulo and Agressor appeared at ringside during the second match and sang the Chilean national anthem to the audience.
