Togo Gets Ready For Shuji, Shit Happens

March 28, 2011

Dick Togo may have eliminated Kota Ibushi from the title chase, but he still has a busy time ahead of him. The main event for DDT’s return to Shinjuku FACE on 13th April has Togo teaming with New Japan wrestlers Gedo & Tomohiro Ishii to take on Ibushi, Antonio Honda & Daisuke Sasaki.

Shuji Ishikawa is next in line for a crack at the KO-D Openweight Champion after winning the Battle Royal from the 14th Anniversary show. Their match is set for 4th May in Korakuen Hall. That’s not all, as Togo’s GRANMA stablemate GENTARO has the “Anytime And Anywhere” title shot, which allows him to cash it in at any show from now until Sumo Hall. GENTARO has claimed he will challenge the winner of Togo Vs Ishikawa, but he hasn’t exactly said when he will face them.

GENTARO has enough on his plate already. He and Yasu Urano are currently the KO-D Tag Team Champions and they now have the Shit Heart ♥ Foundation on their heels. Takao Soma and the Super Shit Machine are next in line to challenge for the belts. Two singles matches involving both sides will happen on 13th April. GENTARO better not take Takao Soma lightly as the young SHF leader has been on a role this year. Meanwhile Yasu Urano faces the Super Shit Machine, who has already made his presence felt in DDT with his SHIT Down Power Bomb finisher (Best move name of 2011 so far). The Tag Team Title match will take place four days later in Nagoya.

Danshoku Dino was able to defeat the first of Bob Sapp’s assassins, American indy wrestler Jonathan Gresham. Another assassin will battle Dino in Shinjuku FACE. Just the thought of Bob Sapp training pro wrestlers to be ninjas fills me with great joy.

There are plenty of questions to ask about tomorrow’s DDT show. Can Kota Ibushi dethrone Dick Togo? Who will get the “Anytime and Anywhere” Title Shot? What other participants and prizes will be part of the Battle Royal? Who is the assassin sent by Bob Sapp to fight Danshoku Dino? Has Antonio Honda stepped up enough of his game to match HARASHIMA? What does Poison Sawada JULIE have in store for the fans when he brings in the Snake Corps? All this and more will be answered in what will be an important stop on the road to Sumo Hall.

DDT’s next DVD release will be “BEST OF THE SUPER Street Wrestling King – Kota Ibushi”, a collection of DDT’s infamous “Anywhere Pro Wrestling” matches featuring the Golden Star. It was originally supposed to be released in time for tomorrow’s 14th Anniversary show but production was delayed due to the recent disasters in Japan. The new release date for the DVD is 13th April.

New Union Matches, Yago Explains The SS Susan

March 25, 2011

UNION “SCHOOL ENTRANCE CEREMONY”, 03/04/2011
Shin-Kiba 1st RING

1. Best Of The Super Junior Celebration: Ken Ohka Vs Tatsuhito Takaiwa
2. Top 10 Idol Death Match: Cherry Vs Miyako Matsumoto Vs Tsukasa Fujimoto
3. Seiya Morohashi Vs Yoshiaki Yago
4. Tag Team Gauntlet: Isami Kodaka & Yano K Data Vs Kengo Ohka & Madoka Vs Choun-Shiryu & Cao Zhang (w/ Princess Makoto)
5. Sanshiro Takagi, Genichiro Tenryu & Shigehiro Irie Vs Shuji Ishikawa, Tsuyoshi Kikuchi & Hiro Tsumaki

Cherry takes on two of the best women to come out of Ice Ribbon. Miyako Matsumoto and Tsukasa Fujimoto have both achieved the Triple Crown of titles to win in Ice Ribbon. Matsumoto just edges ahead for holding all titles simultaneously at one point. But if this does turn out to be some sort of hardcore match, Fujimoto has the advantage. You can thank Jun Kasai for that.

Yoshiaki Yago has posted a message on the DDT website explaining why he formed the SS Susan (or Susan Guard) with Kengo Ohka & Madoka. Yago has not been impressed by Union, finding it a promotion filled with unspectacular wrestlers who have no talent. He would get no benefit signing with the Union Sekigun as the sub-brand would only be “drifting the bottom of the world of professional wrestling” for the rest of time. He also laughs at Sanshiro Takagi’s attempts at running the TKG48 stable.

However, Yago has found a cause worth fighting for in Union. He has found someone who has recently struggled to be heard over the ruckus between Shuji Ishikawa’s side and TKG48. Her name is Naomi Susan, the woman in charge of Union outside of the ring. It seems that Yago has fallen for Naomi. He wants to cheer her up and make running Union easier for the pretty lady. So rounded up Kengo Mashimo Ohka and Madoka to form his own team and purge the “non-atheltes” from Union, punish his arch-rival Sanshiro Takagi and bring the “beautiful smile” back to Naomi’s face. Whether or not Naomi actually approves of this and is on their side is not known at the moment.

More DDT & Union Goodness in NJPW

March 23, 2011

The Golden Lovers have been added to the 3rd April New Japan show at Korakuen Hall. Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega will be part of a tantalising Six Man Tag Team bout that could steal the show. Their exciting speed and teamwork is complimented by the Muscle Orchestra strength of Manabu Nakanashi. Will this combination be enough to defeat the Subconscious Strong Style of Shinsuke Nakamura and his CHAOS teammates Jado & Gedo?

Tokyo Korakuen Hall

Special 6 Man Tag Match: Manabu Nakanishi, Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega Vs Shinsuke Nakamura, Jado & Gedo

Meanwhile lesser established DDT and Union talent are getting ready to take part in NJPW’s NEVER tournament in April. The first round matches have been announced and the DDT/Union related matches are as follows:

NJPW “NEVER.6 ~ROAD TO THE SUPER JR. 2DAYS TOURNAMENT~”, 07/04/2011
Shin-Kiba 1st RING

1. ROAD TO THE SUPER JR. 2DAYS TOURNAMENT – Round 1: Hiromu Takahashi Vs Keisuke Ishii
5. ROAD TO THE SUPER JR. 2DAYS TOURNAMENT – Round 1: Madoka Vs Kazuki Hirata
6. ROAD TO THE SUPER JR. 2DAYS TOURNAMENT – Round 1: Daisuke Sasaki Vs Shinichiro Tominaga
7. ROAD TO THE SUPER JR. 2DAYS TOURNAMENT – Round 1: Tsuyoshi Kikuchi Vs Ken Ohka

Remember, a New Japan staff member half-heartedly-sort-of-kind-of-but-not-really-although-you-never-know promised Ken Ohka that Union talent will be allowed to take part in the undercards of this year’s Best Of The Super Jr Tour. A string of wins and great performances from the wrestlers during this tournament could mean New Japan will hold their end of the bargain. If they do then I expect Ken Ohka’s part of the deal will be to never talk to the New Japan staff ever again.

6. KO-D Openweight Title: Dick Togo (c) Vs Kota Ibushi

Poison Sawada JULIE returns and he is bringing back the Snake Corps for DDT’s 14th Anniversary. Over the years wrestlers such as Shuji Ishikawa, Takashi Sasaki, HARASHIMA, Yusuke Inokuma, Jun Inomata and Kaori Yoneyama have drunk Sawada’s poison and joined his side. Who knows what team Sawada and Naomi Susan will bring with them to Korakuen Hall to take on MIKAMI & Rojo Del Sol.

4. KO-D Openweight Title: Dick Togo (c) Vs Kota Ibushi

HARASHIMA Vs Antonio Honda has been added to the 14th Anniversary show. A year ago, the result would be obvious but now I am not so sure. Honda has recently held both the Interim KO-D Championship and the KO-D Tag Team Championship with Daisuke Sasaki. He has shown that he is capable of putting up a fight against anyone from Dick Togo to Hiroyoshi Tenzan. The match may prove to be more challenging for HARASHIMA than I would think. This is a chance for Honda to prove that he is at HARASHIMA’s level and start the road to becoming a fully fledged KO-D Openweight Champion.

The event will also feature the return of at least two names from DDT’s past, Rojo Del Sol and Tsunehito Naito. Rojo Del Sol showed up in DDT during the year 2000 and is a two time Ironman Heavymetalweight Champion. Former UWF fighter Tsunehito Naito wrestled for DDT in 1999 and went through the Malenko Dojo over in Florida.

Puro Aid, “JUDGEMENT 2011” Matches, Schedule Shuffle

March 16, 2011

Dramatic Dream Team has joined up with KAIENTAI DOJO, Big Japan Wrestling & FREEDOMS to help send aid and relief to the areas worst affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami disasters. They will also help out wrestling promotions Michinoku Pro and SENDAI GIRLS, which are both located in the badly damaged region. DDT and Union will accept aid and donations at the 27/3 Korakuen Hall show aswell as the 23/7, 6/3 & 6/4 events at Shin-Kiba 1st RING. Everybody in DDT gives out their sincere sympathies to all of those who have been affected by the earthquake.

As of right now, DDT will still hold its 14th Anniversary show at Korakuen Hall on 27th March.

3. KO-D Openweight Title: Dick Togo (c) Vs Kota Ibushi

Danshoku Dino received a message from Bob Sapp during the week. I don’t think any attempt at giving a brief explanation of the message would do it justice, so here is the Google translation of the entire statement.

“Dear Japanese people, but Bob Sapp. Now, I hear that Japan is serious situation like my favorite, be worried about. And tell everyone I love in the first Japanese victims . And in July of this beast-like DDT out of the tournament the two countries, but show you the best fight. and I heard, saying that fighters like me and want to play is a gay boy Japanizu I do not. Give me a break. I fought like giants and many around the world. and have that show the Bisutopawa. No way I like it I like that person that gay boy. Now I’ll Dotakyan ! … I thought it would be business like I do in Japan. So what we have. In the world, like the head of my aim, and with a whole range fighters to fight me. So , the two countries before the convention in July, DDT and its fighters in the world of gay boy fighting or not fighting in the two countries do 勝Chi抜Itara July to the last man. I named “Bob game,” he . Bob Sapp can we fight this is the only one! DDT is really gay boy, you reach a point where I like? Good luck! Hahahahahaha!”

Bob Sapp isn’t convinced that Dino is the real deal. So Bob has sent an ‘Assassin’ over to DDT to test Dino’s abilities on 27th March.

1. Sanshiro Takagi defeated Great Kayser with the Sit Down Himawari Bomb (4:29).
2. Hikaru Sato & Kazuki Hirata defeated Keisuke Ishii & Akito when Sato pinned Akito with a Middle Kick (10:41).
3. DJ Nira Vs Hideki Shiota ended in a No Contest when the Shit Heart ♥ Foundation attacked both wrestlers (8:52).
4. Takao Soma, Super Shit Machine & Tomimitsu Matsunaga defeated HARASHIMA, MIKAMI & Daisuke Sasaki when Machine pinned Sasaki with the SHIT! Down Power Bomb (11:41).
5. Danshoku Dino & Makoto Oishi defeated Antonio Honda & Michael Nakazawa when Oishi pinned Nakazawa with the Miracle Ecstasy (9:40).
6. Yasu Urano defeated KUDO with an Inside Cradle (13:55).
7. Dick Togo & GENTARO defeated Kota Ibushi & Shigehiro Irie when Togo pinned Irie with the Diving Senton (20:58).

Michael Nakazawa was confronted by the Shit Heart ♥ Foundation in the ring, with group demanding that their former member shave his head bald for siding with Hikaru Sato during his No DQ Hair Vs Hair match with SHF leader Takao Soma. Nakazawa ended up gambling his hair on the DJ Nira Vs Hideki Shiota match. He picked Shiota to win the match but it didn’t matter as the SHF attacked both participants to cause a No Contest and then began to shave off Nakazawa’s hair. DJ Nira also got in on the action much to Nakazawa’s sadness. HARASHIMA, MIKAMI & Daisuke Sasaki ran in to make the save and kick start their Tag match against the group.

When Nakazawa finally reappeared for Match #5, he came out sporting a hairstyle similar to the Brahman Bros (as seen in the pic above). Tadasuke from Osaka Pro stood inside the ring for the entire match. By the time the match was over he couldn’t stop laughing at all of the comedy spots that took place.

Sanshiro Takagi made a surprise appearance for a bonus match against The Great Kayser to start the show. This was his first match in a full DDT show since his move to Union last year. After Sanshiro won with the Sit Down Himawari Bomb, he announced that DDT will donate some of the box office to charity in aid of the victims of the recent disaster.

At the end of the show, DDT referee Yukinori Matsui was given time to speak about his hometown in the Iwate prefecture, which was destroyed by the earthquake. Thankfully, he found out the day before the show that his family was safe and that everyone in the town was in his thoughts.

Due to the rolling blackouts and increased dangers happening in Tokyo right now, DDT has postponed tomorrow’s “NON-FIX” show that was supposed to take place in Shin-Kiba 1st RING.

At the moment, DDT’s “JUDGEMENT 2011” 14th Anniversary show is still going ahead on 27th March. Korakuen Hall suffered damage during the earthquake, most of it caused to the ceiling along with some electrical problems. SMASH has postponed its 18th March event at building but Big Japan and Ice Ribbon are still planning on having their Korakuen shows on 21st March take place.
