BASARA “BASARA 206 ~RYU TOKOTO~”, 11/12/2022
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. Ryuichi Sekine Vs X
2. Union MAX Title: Isami Kodaka (c) Vs Fuminori Abe

Over two years ago Fuminori Abe won the Union MAX Title under unfortunate circumstances when the champion Masahiro Takanashi suffered a bad injury during their match. Abe became the new champion as a result but he never really accepted the reign as being fully legitimate. After winning the Chouten ~Itadaki~ tournament this week he thinks now is the time for him to challenge for the belt again and prove to himself he deserves to be the champion. Doing that against Isami Kodaka, the man who has held the MAX Title the most would definitely prove it.

Ryuichi Sekine returns to the ring after spending almost two years away from pro wrestling to take care of his mental health. While he was away, Abe won the rights to become Ryuichi Sekine II but he purposely never used the gimmick knowing the original would one day return.

Now that Pheromones have won the war against Sanshiro Takagi, it is up to Akito to protect DDT from their scandalous ways. Takagi has “graduated” from the feud and selected Akito to take his place as Captain of the Pheromones Subjugation Squad. Akito feels like he’s been in that position for a while anyway but agreed to the idea. He’s not wrestling on this show but will be accompanying the opposing team to make sure Pheromones don’t fall out of line.

The new rookie Kazumi Sumi impressed with his debut match. Jae over at Dragongate revealed in a tweet that Sumi originally came from the dojo over there but dropped out. And that is how DDT is getting some of their new trainees. They start training at other companies, leave for whatever reason and end up over in DDT. Might be a little awkward if he bumps into Naruki Doi in the locker room then.

Doi’s next appearance in DDT will be in Kyoto where he’s teaming with Tetsuya Endo & Akito against three of DDT’s younger wrestlers.

One of the non-tournament matches will feature Joey Janela against Rickey Shane Page on opposite sides. Not sure if there’s still bad blood between the two over the GCW Vs 44OH! feud from not so long ago but they don’t even need that excuse to do something crazy together. They’ll be facing each other in the D-Ou GP a few days later anyway so plenty of chances for them to wreck each other.

Last we heard from Gorgeous Matsuno he was in the early stages of preparations donating a kidney to his partner Junko Tashiro. He gave an update during the week that the kidney transplant has been delayed until next Spring. He explained in an interview that Tashiro’s recent blood tests showed she is in good health and her doctors suggested it might not be a good idea to get a transplant right away while her own kidneys are still functioning. The operation will have to happen eventually but right now Matsuno has been given extra time to go back to his different entertainment activities, including pro wrestling.

It’s very likely that the D-Ou winner will challenge Kazusada Higuchi for the KO-D Openweight Title at the end of the year. Or if Higuchi wins the tournament then he will likely nominate his challenger.

Two outsiders have come to challenge Reiwa AA Cannon. The duo of Saori Anou & Riko Kawahata both have histories with Saki Akai but they are completely brand new opponents for Yuki Arai.

D-Ou Grand Prix 2022

October 5, 2022

The annual D-Ou Grand Prix has been date corrected back to its proper year so the 2022 edition is in fact taking place in the year 2022. A new direction has been given to this year’s tournament. Every entrant is under the age of 40 because DDT is currently building up their younger roster. The format is a two block round robin with the winners of each group meeting in the final. Both blocks contain 6 wrestlers so everybody will compete in 5 matches, each with a 30 minute time limit. The final itself has no time limit. Wins are worth 2 points and draws (time limit or double knockout) are worth 1 point. 0 points will go toward losses, double countouts and any match that is ruled a No Contest or gets cancelled because both wrestlers are unable to compete. In the case of ties for first place, the match result between the wrestlers involved will be used as the tiebreaker. Kenta Kobashi remains in his role as the chairman of the tournament committee.

A Block

Tetsuya Endo (6th Appearance)
Daisuke Sasaki (5th Appearance)
Yuki Ueno (4th Appearance)

7. D-Ou Grand Prix 2021 II – A Block: Yuki Ueno (4) defeated Yuji Hino (4) with the WR (16:25).

A Block

1. Tetsuya Endo (6)
2. Yuki Ueno (4)
-. Yuji Hino (4)
-. Jun Akiyama (4)
5. Bodyguard (2)
-. Naomi Yoshimura (2)

B Block

1. Konosuke Takeshita (5)
-. Yuji Okabayashi (5)
3. MAO (4)
-. Kazusada Higuchi (4)
5. Chris Brookes (2)
6. HARASHIMA (0)

We are now long past the halfway point and approaching the home stretch of the D-Ou Grand Prix. The races for 1st place are getting tighter at the top. In the A Block Yuki Ueno has caught up after an upset win over Yuji Hino. He slipped out of the Fuckin’ BOMB and pinned Hino with the WR to score what he thinks is the most important win of the tournament. It’s a good thing too because Hino left his mark on Ueno’s chest anyway.

Also in A Block was a must win match for both Jun Akiyama and Naomi Yoshimura. The winner would remain in the chase for first while the loser would be eliminated from contention. In the end it just wasn’t to be for Yoshimura. Akiyama stopped the Throwaway Power Bomb with a Jackknife pin to get the three count. He describes Yoshimura like he is still a junior high school student. If Yoshimura understands what he means then he will get closer to beating him.

While all of that is going on below, Tetsuya Endo is currently standing at the top. He is two points in the lead after beating Bodyguard. This time the Shooting Star Press did not fail him. In fact he thinks today’s one was the best he ever hit. His last opponent is Yuki Ueno and he isn’t worried about him. If Ueno couldn’t beat Daisuke Sasaki then what hope does he have against Endo? But first Ueno has to face Bodyguard tomorrow in Osaka. Bodyguard said if he loses in his hometown then thousands of fans will be sad over it.

Over in the B Block, Chris Brookes is now out of the running. Kazusada Higuchi pinned him with the mighty Brain Claw in a match where both felt like they switched nationalities. Before the match Brookes said he would use his Yamato Spirit to win. Higuchi after the match said he felt like a British knight. He duels with Yuji Okabayashi tomorrow.

HARASHIMA continues to be winless in his block while MAO’s use of the Clothespin continues to pay off for him. MAO feels like he grows after every match he has with HARASHIMA and today continued that. Meanwhile HARASHIMA has accepted the reality of his tournament run. The only thing he can do to save face now is to finish with some points. That is why he will fight Konosuke Takeshita and Okabayashi with everything that he has.

2. 3 Way Match: Hyper Misao defeated Suzume and Haruna Neko when Misao pinned Neko with La Magistral Cradle (8:32).
3. Nodoka Tenma defeated Pom Harajuku with the Killswitch (8:56).

6. Miyu Yamashita & Yuki Arai defeated Shoko Nakajima & Arisu Endo when Arai pinned Endo with the Finally (14:31).

Today was Yuki Arai’s big return home to Kyoto. She made her day even better off winning in the main event by giving Arisu Endo the Full Nelson Buster and then pinning her with the Finally. Then to cap it off, Arai challenged Miyu Yamashita to a singles match in Nagoya on 18th December. The two have previously talked about doing that match and today was Arai’s official challenge. They agreed that Arai has improved since the last time they were in the ring together in Nagoya. Yamashita warned Arai that she will show her no mercy as long as they fight. Arai admits she isn’t ready to be involved with any championship matches yet so her interest is just in fighting Yamashita.

I think this will be one of the first wrestling shows in Japan to get loud fans back but it is on a very small scale. BASARA have kept their attendance numbers private throughout the entire pandemic for a reason. It’s progress towards getting a good atmosphere back in Japanese wrestling shows but it won’t be a big crowd to begin with.

D-Ou Grand Prix 2021 II

September 29, 2021

The D-Ou Grand Prix 2021 already happened at the end of last year. From 2019-2021 DDT held a big arena show early in the year which did not give them much time to organize a round robin tournament to determine who gets a KO-D Openweight Title shot at said show. The solution they came up with was to hold the Grand Prix during the previous winter, giving them ample time to get their plans together. That is how they ended up with the annual sports game franchise naming convention. So to synchronize the tournament name back to the right year, DDT is doing the 2021 Grand Prix again. It’s time for D-Ou Grand Prix 2021 II! Both blocks have six wrestlers and the winner of each block advances to the final. 2 points for a win, 1 points for a draw and 0 points for a loss. Block matches have a 30 minute time limit and the final has no time limit.

A Block

Jun Akiyama (2nd Appearance, 2021 Winner)
Tetsuya Endo (5th Appearance)

5. Japanese English Handsome King No. 1 Decision Match: Chris Brookes defeated Makoto Oishi with the Praying Mantis Bomb (9:43).
6. DAMNATION Vs ALL OUT!: Tetsuya Endo, Soma Takao & Mad Paulie defeated Konosuke Takeshita, Akito & Shunma Katsumata when Endo pinned Katsumata with a Swan Dive Firebird Splash (16:22).
7. Saki Akai, The 4th Local Triumph! Kyoto Specialty Special Tag: HARASHIMA & Saki Akai defeated MAO & Asuka when HARASHIMA pinned MAO with the Somato (17:44).

Saki Akai got to join in with HARASHIMA’s usual show closing speech.

A Lariat from Konosuke Takeshita was meant to be for Tetsuya Endo but he dodged it and Akito took the hit instead. Endo then took over with Shunma Katsumata and pinned him with the Spinning Torture Rack Bomb followed by a Swan Dive Firebird Splash.

The debuting Chris Brookes got to mess around with Makoto Oishi as the two tried to one up each other with little tricks and holds. Brookes said the match was just him adjusting himself so he can get ready for “WRESTLE PETER PAN 2019”. He has seen Takeshita and Endo’s matches before and thinks he can beat either of them for the KO-D Openweight Title. But first he wants to concentrate on tomorrow’s 3 Way Tag Match with Masahiro Takanashi as his partner.

Both Yuki Ueno & Naomi Yoshimura are so sick of being kicked in the balls by Daisuke Sasaki that they figured out when he sets up the move. Sasaki pulled Daisuke Kiso into Yoshimura’s way but when he went for the Low Blow, Yoshimura had him scouted and struck Sasaki down with a Lariat. He hit the Throwaway Power Bomb and Ueno recovered Kiso to count the pin. Ueno said he and Yoshimura will definitely win the KO-D Tag Team Titles and bring the belts to DISASTER BOX.

The battle of the DDT mascots saw Yukinori Matsui somehow getting the brunt of the attacks. With the ref down, Pokotan brought in a chair but couldn’t use it because Matsui was about to get up. So instead Pokotan took off its head, made a dent in it, put it back on and passed the chair over to Doradori-kun. The trick worked and Matsui disqualified Doradori-kun, thinking he attacked Pokotan with the chair. This match was booked by Kazusada Higuchi. He said he couldn’t be in the venue to see it but somehow he showed up at the end of the show to lead the audience to the exit…

Yukio Naya gets his first direct win in DDT. He wants to gradually release his strength as time goes by. Tomorrow in Nagoya he will be even stronger.
