ddtelection-2014

The results of this year’s DDT Dramatic General Election was announced to a full Shinjuku FACE crowd of 520 fans. Samurai! TV cameras followed the briefcase as it made its journey towards Shinjuku. Smile Squash won the Unit Election, narrowly beating Shuten-dōji by 9 votes. Team Drift weren’t that far behind either. Nira Federation, the one man unit led by DJ Nira somehow got more votes than Nira did in the singles portion of the election.

Kota Ibushi wins the DDT Election for the second time and he is now guaranteed a KO-D Title shot at Saitama Super Arena next year. Ibushi felt happy that the fans are not sick of seeing him because of his dual contract with DDT and New Japan. When asked what he will do with the cash prize, Ibushi simply said “Yamanote Line Wrestling”. He wants to travel through an entire loop of the Yamanote Line and wrestle somebody at every stop. Sanshiro Takagi said afterwards he’ll talk to Japan Railway about it.

Isami Kodaka finished in 2nd place, losing out to Ibushi by just 4 votes! It was the closest result ever for the contest and a much needed one since most of them have been won by landslides. Despite that, Kodaka still gets a KO-D Title shot later this month and some cash as a reward. HARASHIMA finished 3rd and said he’s looking forward to the Kodaka match. Kodaka said the same but promises he will crush HARASHIMA.

Yukio Sakaguchi now wants to finish his career wrestling for DDT so he will now be affiliated with the company.

3. Glistening Mixed Match: Hamuko Hoshi & Hiroshi Fukuda defeated Yumi Ohka & Mitomi Masayuki when Fukuda pinned Masayuki with a School Boy (13:14).
4. Heavy Match: Dynamite Kasai & Aja Kong defeated Shuji Ishikawa & SAGAT when Kong pinned SAGAT with the Backfist (12:37).
5. Barbed Wire Board Death Match: Mayumi Ozaki, Shu Shibutani & Yuko Miyamoto defeated Mio Shirai, Maki Narumiya & Isami Kodaka when Ozaki pinned Shirai with the Diving Rolling Senton through lighttubes (23:35).

Today was all about Mio Shirai. The new Fly To Everywhere Champion brought together the four companies she is under contract with to joint host an event highlighted by a mixed gender Barbed Wire Board Death Match. Shirai teamed with Isami Kodaka and Maki Narumiya to face Yuko Miyamoto, Mayumi Ozaki and Shu Shibutani in a match that featured light tubes, a football, a guide light, a paddle, a chain, and a whip as well as the aforementioned barbed wire boards. Shirai’s face wound up becoming a crimson mask but Narumiya probably took the worst bump, Miyamoto gave her the Fire Thunder Driver through a table. Despite the violence, Shirai and Ozaki joked with each other after the match. Shirai thanked each of the wrestlers and said she wanted to show everywone how awesome Union, Oz Academy, WAVE and Ice Ribbon all are.

Hiroshi Fukuda complained about having to team with Hamuko Hoshi instead of Yumi Ohka before their tag team match. When Ohka rejected his advances after the match and kicked him away, he called her an old hag and ran off.

Shirai wrestled twice on the show, competing in the opening match as well as the main event. The opener was a 3 Way match between Shirai and her two WAVE partners, Tsukasa Fujimoto and Misaki Ohata. The bout could be won by either pinfall, submission or throwing an opponent over the top rope and out of the ring. In WAVE the three women often use a football, a guide light and a pole as foreign objects. So it was no surpise that they used the weapons on each other. Shirai snuck away with the win when she cut into a series of nearfalls between the other two and pinned them at the same time.

*World Men’s Club fail in V3. Isami Kodaka & FUMA become the 19th UWA World Tag Team Champions!
7. Union MAX Title: Hikaru Sato (c) Vs Shuji Ishikawa ended in a Time Limit Draw (30:00).
*V2 for Hikaru Sato.

Thirty minutes was not enough for Hikaru Sato and Shuji Ishikawa to settle their differences. The main event for the Union MAX Title ended in a time limit draw although Ishikawa hit the Splash Mountain seconds before the time expired. Ishikawa asked for a time extension so a winner could be decided. Naomi Susan explained that as champion it was up to Sato to decide if the match should restart. A draw counts a successful defence but she recommended to Sato that the match should continue. Sato hated the idea and rejected the plea. Ishikawa asked Sato how could he call himself the stronger man but Sato replied that he will have to try another day.

Daichi Kazato interrupted Sato with a Missile Dropkick from out of nowhere. He challenged Sato to a title match. If Ishikawa can’t get another chance then he will get one instead. Ishikawa respected Kazato’s plan but he wasn’t sure if he had what he takes. Ishikawa Headbutted Kazato to test him. Kazato took the hit and passed the test. Ishikawa told Kazato to work hard and he gave him his blessing to get the next title match. Members of the Union Sekigun then lined up and one by one struck Kazato with chops and kicks to transfer their power into him.

Hiroshi Fukuda will be going into All Japan with one less belt in his collection after today. He and MEN’S Teioh lost the UWA World Tag Team Titles to Isami Kodaka & FUMA. The Union team worked very well as a team, FUMA even wore wrestling gear similar to Kodaka’s. FUMA scored the pin with the Sole Butt on Fukuda to win his first ever championship.

Another championship changed hands when Mio Shirai beat Ladybeard to win the Fly To Everywhere Title. Ladybeard fought dirty, pulling Mio’s hair while yelling “This is women’s wrestling!” But Shirai avoided the Nutcracker and pinned the champion with the Tsuchigumo. Shirai said it was the first title she won since she signed her four company contract and then thanked Ladybeard for being a great opponent.

Union’s new masked wrestler is called Daichi. A former DDT wrestler in a previous life, he has come to Union after a long absence in the ring to restart his wrestling career. He had a successful Union debut as part of the winning side of a 6-Man Tag Team Match.

7. KO-D Openweight Title Challenger Tournament – Final: Keisuke Ishii defeated Tetsuya Endo with the High Angle Double Arm DDT (17:57).

The next challenger for the KO-D Openweight Title has been decided. Keisuke Ishii defeated Tetsuya Endo in the final of the Young Wrestler Tournament. Ishii had been saying he was statisticly the favourite to win the tournament and he was proven right. However, Ishii’s stats against the champion HARASHIMA are not so good. He waves this off and says he does not care because he has gained a lot of experience and is now confident he can win the title.

Kota Ibushi dropped Gota Ihashi right on his head for the finish of the semi-main event. The match celebrated Ibushi’s 10 years in wrestling but was constantly delayed due to injuries to Ibushi and original participant Taiji Ishimori. The match finally happened today with HARASHIMA in Ishimori’s place. Tsurumi Amon was worried that Ibushi didn’t like the match but Ibushi said it was fun. The Combat Bike from Sumo Hall was used here, Konosuke Takeshita used it to run over Ihashi outside the ring.

Smile Squash scored an upset victory over Team Dream Futures. Tension is building between the two sides when Akito & Yasu Urano attempted to steal Drift’s KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles after the match. An angry Shigehiro Irie was able to stop them from doing so.

DJ Nira won a match! In a result that came out of nowhere, Nira tricked Daisuke Sasaki into letting go of the Crossface Lock and then pinned him with a modified La Magistral Cradle. Earlier in the match Sasaki had Nira trapped in the Crossface Lock but rather than tapping out, Nira instead Rocket Punched the referee.

In Match #3 Antonio Honda stole Kazuki Hirata’s  Magnum HIRATA mask from him and even danced to “Tokyo Go” before hitting the Diving Fist Drop to win.

Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega Vs Michael Nakazawa & Yoshihiko will take place in Osaka on 13th September as part of Ibushi’s 10th Anniversary celebration.

Shun Miyatake (Trainee) announced that he is scheduled to return from injury in October.

7. KO-D Tag Team Titles: Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega (c) Vs Shigehiro Irie & Soma Takao

With “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2014” in the bag it is time to look ahead for DDT’s future. A mini tournament for DDT’s young wrestlers is going ahead to determine the No. 1 Contender for the KO-D Openweight Title. The semi finals take place in Kasukabe Hall when Tetsuya Endo faces Konosuke Takeshita and Keisuke Ishii faces Akito. The two winners will take part in the final on 31st August in Shinjuku. The KO-D Title match will happen in Osaka on 13th September.

Ishii counts himself as the favourite. He is unbeaten against both Akito and Endo in singles matches. He has never faced Takeshita one on one. Regardless, Ishii is so confident he will win that he wonders why there is even a tournament to determine the next title challenger when it should be him. Takeshita felt he learned a lot from wrestling Hiroshi Tanahashi. He hopes to win the tournament so he can have the title match with HARASHIMA in front of his home town Osaka crowd.

HARASHIMA’s comments coming out of the Sumo Hall main event are about what you’d expect to hear from him. His opponents were strong, he was glad he was able to win and he wants to be the defending champion again at next year’s show.

For now the Golden☆Lovers’ main priority is to keep the KO-D Tag Team Titles around their waists. Kenny Omega said he has no choice but to win at any cost to keep his title with Kota Ibushi. They defend the belts against two thirds of the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Champions. The Drift duo of Shigehiro Irie & Soma Takao challenged the Golden☆Lovers and it was accepted. With Ishii in the tournament and this title match happening soon, Drift are aiming to add the KO-D Openweight and Tag Team Titles to their collection. Kenny says he and Ibushi are an S-Rank team. Irie’s response is he and Takao are an A-Ranked team, then he got confused and corrected himself, calling him and Takao a T-Ranked team instead.

Former DDT wrestler Daichi Kakimoto is now with Union. Kakimoto wrestled in DDT from 2003 to 2008 when a cervical spine injury forced him into retirement. He returned to wrestling in 2012 and made sporadic appearances since then. He now wants to wrestle on a regular basis and signed with Union. He chose Union for two reasons. The first is Kakimoto being inspired by how much Shuji Ishikawa and Isami Kodaka have grown the last couple of years. The other reason is Union’s schedule is easy enough for his body and non-wrestling career to handle. Kakimoto also wants to re-debut under as a masked wrestler and will use a new ring name to represent how he is starting again from scratch. He hopes fans will not reveal his identity or update his Wikipedia page when he appears under the mask.
