The annual contract renewals for the entire DDT roster took place this week. The sad news is Hikaru Sato did not renew his contract and will leave the company at the end of the month. Sato posted his comments on DDT’s site thanking them for his growth as a wrestler. He describes his transformation over the years as being able to survive the world of professional wrestling because he learned there is no single ideology needed to succeed. In DDT he was able to “rampage freely” with his ideas and Hikaru Sato would not exist without them. However he will not get many new opportunities if his career stays sterile. In Pancrase he was taught “The right of freedom is given only to those who played a duty of responsibility” and in order to fulfil his dream he needs to go out and do more.

He gained strength and jealousy from wrestling with Kota Ibushi, became friends with HARASHIMA as his equal and got to learn from Yukio Sakaguchi. Sato also had a lot of good things to say about Michael Nakazawa, who he had formed a very perverted team with over the years. Sato will continue to run Hard Hit but will no longer be involved with DDT’s day to day activities. He is unsure of where his journey will take him next and he may return to DDT in the future (he joked he could be back in three days time). But for now his final match will be himself and Sanshiro Takagi versus Yukio Sakaguchi & Akito on 26th January. Sato ended his message asking his fans to attend the show wearing the Pancrase Dead Or Alive t-shirt.

The other main change in contracts is Daisuke Sasaki becoming a full time member of the roster. He was previously wrestling for DDT as a freelancer. Konosuke Takeshita is in his final year of high school and his contract will be sorted out after his college entrance exam. Hoshitango is currently back home in Argentina but an agreement is in place for a contract when he returns.

Sato admitted he had no good excuse for losing to Ryo Kawamura in the main event. However, he now wants a rematch at Korakuen Hall.

Yukio Sakaguchi and Masaaki Mochizuki shook hands after their draw. They also appealed to fight each other one more time.

4c. Yukio Kubota eliminated Tetsuya Endo with a Front Neck Lock (10:40).
5. Hikaru Sato (2D/2E/0P) Vs Yukio Sakaguchi (2D/2E/0P) ended in a 4-4 Time Limit Draw (15:00).

The KO-D Tag Team Champions fought to a stalemate in the main event. Hikaru Sato and Yukio Sakaguchi went through 15 minutes battling each other in a match that would have fit in with UWF no problem.

Yukio Kubota won a future Hard Hit fight against HARASHIMA by beating Tetsuya Endo, Hoshitango and Tadaware in the Battle Royal.

Michael Nakazawa was allowed to change the rules in his favour to give him a chance against Tanomusaku Toba. In Round 1 Nakazawa banned Toba from using his boxing gloves because they were too dangerous. He also allowed himself to cover his body in oil. The plan backfired when he couldn’t apply any submissions on Toba because they both became too slippery. In Round 2 Michael ordered Toba to give him his training bag containing supplement pills and a bottle of tequila. In Round 3 a knockdown only counted when the dominant fighter drank the bottle of tequila. Toba convinced Nakazawa to just fight under normal wrestling rules for Round 4 and he was able to beat him.

6. Kota Ibushi, Kenny Omega & Kizaemon Saiga defeated KUDO, Yasu Urano & FUMA when Omga pinned FUMA after the Golden Impact (14:29).
7. Next KO-D Openweight Title Challenger Decision Match: Hikaru Sato defeated HARASHIMA with a Leg Trap Reverse Armbreaker (20:43).

Hikaru Sato will face Shigehiro Irie for the KO-D Openweight Title in Hiroshima on 26th May.

The Golden Impact is a Double Stacked Doomsday Spinning Heel Kick. Kenny Omega had Kota Ibushi sitting on his shoulders while Ibushi had the victim FUMA sitting on top of him. Then Kizaemon Saiga leapt high off the top rope and struck FUMA with the Spinning Heel Kick.

Daisuke Sasaki has discovered a loophole for the Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere Contract. Much like championships, the contract cannot change hands via disqualification. Sasaki was about to be defeated by MIKAMI when Shoichi Uchida grabbed Daisuke Kiso and pulled him out of the ring. Sasaki was DQ’ed but he did not lose his contract to MIKAMI.

“El Samurai” was really Kazuki Hirata wearing the former’s mask. Michael Nakazawa didn’t fall for the disguise and was able to unmask him but at the cost of being pinned by Hirata immediately afterward.

Mayu Iwatani, Lin Bairon, Kota Ibushi & Gota Ihashi defeated Eri Susa, Makoto, Michael Nakazawa & Hikaru Sato when Iwatani pinned Nakazawa with a Dragon Suplex (12:26).

Today was the big day for the Stardom joshi promotion. They ran an important show in Sumo Hall dedicated to the retirement of Yuzuki Aikawa. Miss Bouncy Bouncy received a lot of support from DDT during her pro wrestling career so it was fitting to see some of the wrestlers having a match on the undercard. The 8-Person Tag Team match had a crossover of talent from Stardom, DDT and Wrestling New Classic as Kota Ibushi & Gota Ihashi teamed with Stardom’s Mayu Iwatani and the new WNC Women’s Champion Lin Bairon to face Michael Nakazawa, Hikaru Sato, Eri Susa and the former WNC Women’s Champion Makoto. Nakazawa and Sato were in hentai mode with Nakazawa dressed as a nurse while Sato wore a women’s bathing suit. Ibushi and Makoto got to reignite their small rivalry when they paired off in the ring. Nakazawa was his usual creepy sense and attempted to apply the Ultimate Venom Arm on Iwatani. Makoto did not want her team to win that way and tried to stop him but got caught in the crossfire. Iwatani capitalised on the backfire and pinned Nakazawa with a Dragon Suplex in an impressive feat. Now, if someone from DDT is reading this could they please go console Sanshiro Takagi?

Meanwhile a few other DDT wrestlers appeared at the the Makuhari Messe in Tokyo to attend the Nico Douga Conference. Antonio Honda put on his red and yellow tights and brought Hulkamania to life again with a Hulk Hogan Gymnastics performance. He was cheered on by Danshoku Dino, Tsurumi Amon, Daisuke Sasaki, Hiroshi Fukuda and Chikage Kiba. The video of the original performance is one of the more popular sport videos on the website. 6. Masayuki Kono (0D/0E/0P) defeated Hayato Mashita (0D/2E/0P) with a Cross Armlock (2:55).
7. Hikaru Sato (0D/0E/0P) defeated Yuji Sakuragi (0D/0E/0P) by Disqualification after an illegal closed strike to the face (0:38).

Hiromitsu Kanehara appeared to announce his retirement match at “U-SPIRITS Again” in Korakuen Hall on 9th March. The UWF Theme played during his entrance. He came to the show today and saw how UWF had evolved and wished both Hikaru Sato and Yuji Sakuragi to do their best in the main event.

Unfortunately the main event suffered a premature end before it ever got the chance to get going. When Sato dove in to grab Sakuragi’s leg, he took a punch to the face that fractured his nose. Even though the punch was unintentional, the referee called a foul on Sakuragi for the use of a closed fist and disqualified him. Sakuragi apologised to both Sato and the fans in attendance for the disappointing end to the match. Sato thanked the fighters who debuted as well as those who ended their Hard Hit careers today. He also apologised to the fans.

Masayuki Kono’s first trip to Hard Hit was quick and easy. The All Japan wrestler was dominant over Hayato Mashita and got the submission win in just under three minutes.

Yukio Sakaguchi was the final opponent for Asaki Honda since he was retiring on this show. When the fight ended in a draw, Honda told Sato that it was not a convincing result for someone who is about to retire. The fight was restarted per Honda’s request, this time with no time limit so a definitive winner would be decided. It only took a minute for Sakaguchi to knockout Honda with a Flying Knee. During the retirement ceremony, Honda gave Sakaguchi his T-shirt while Sakaguchi gave Honda his dojo towel.

Kamen Shooter Super Rider told NOSAWA Rongai they have been around since the beginning of DDT (Rider is Koichiro Kimura, aka Super Uchu Rider who was part of the DDT roster up until 2006). Rider would like to face NOSAWA again in a more orthodox wrestling match over in Real Japan Pro Wrestling.

7. KO-D Openweight Title & DDT Extreme Title: Kenny Omega (c) Vs Isami Kodaka (c)

Both Kenny Omega and Isami Kodaka had plenty of praise to give each other when they met to promote their KO-D Openweight & DDT Extreme Double Title match. Omega has a lot of respect for Kodaka due to his spirit and technique. As the DDT Extreme Champion, Kodaka was allowed to choose the stipulation for the match. He was tempted to make it a hardcore match so both men could do whatever they wanted in the ring. He decided to leave it as a normal match so if he beats Omega, it will prove without a doubt that he deservedly won the KO-D Championship. Kenny compared the match up to something like Street Fighter X Tekken or Capcom Vs SNK. He is 99% sure he can beat Kodaka but there is a chance a lucky punch will beat him. Kodaka said he has that punch but he acquired it from dedicated training instead of relying on luck.

The Monster Army have threatened to sell the KO-D 6-Man Tag Titles if they win them and use the money to buy tanks! Antonio Honda explained that after he and his teammates win the belts, he will go wrestle in Vietnam and become famous. That will somehow increase the value of the belts to the point where they can afford tanks. Honda also warned Keisuke Ishii that at 27 years old, Ishii is at the stage of life when a person has the worst luck. Many many musicians have died at the age of 27 and Ishii could join them. Ishii pointed out that Daisuke Sasaki and Yuji Hino are also 27 years old. Ishii’s 28th birthday will be around a week after the show and he promises he will still have the title when he celebrates it.

The show promoted free admission for students from the nearby elementary school, so there were many children who were at the show. During his end of show promo, MIKAMI encouraged the children to follow their dreams and thanked them for witnessing the “Triumph of DDT.”

New Hard Hit Rules

HARD HIT “ATLANTIS”, 22/03/2012
Shinjuku FACE

1. KEI Yamamiya Vs Ryuichi Sekine
2. Yukio Sakaguchi Vs Michael Nakazawa
3. Isami Kodaka Vs Tanomusaku Toba
4. HARASHIMA Vs Daisuke Nakamura
5. Hikaru Sato Vs Ryo Kawamura

Hikaru Sato has announced a new rule set to be used in Hard Hit going forward. The following changes have been made:

– Hard Hit matches will now have either a 10 or 15 minute time limit.

– Pinfalls are not in use.

– 10 minute fights will use a three point loss system. 15 minute fights will use a 5 point loss system.

– Closed fist strikes to the face, shins and knees are not allowed. However, strikes to the shins and knees will be allowed if the opponent wears padding on the affected area.

– Headbutts are banned.

– When on the ground, fighters are considered to be in a grounded state until they are standing on the soles of both feet.

– When fighting in a grounded state, the only strikes that are allowed to be used are open palm strikes.

– Leaving the ring during the fight, using weapons and attacking the referee are all grounds for immediate disqualifiction.

Everything else will be kept as usual. The last two matches will have a 15 minute time limit, the rest will be 10 minutes. There have been some comments that Sato is using the Hard Hit relaunch to prepare for a possible revival in the shoot-fighting style made famous by UWF and RINGS. Sato’s response is he does not know what is happening and he just wants to appeal to the fans of that style.
