We’ve had some time to rest but this weekend brings us the finale of the 2018 D-King Grand Prix. I think the tournament has been a success and the match quality has drawn in some new eyes to DDT this month so hopefully this will stick around as an annual tournament. Scheduling it after Wrestle Kingdom is mostly a good idea. The wrestling scene over in Japan calms down a little when that show is over so the space is there to put on a bunch of easy to watch straightforward shows. Maybe just don’t run three to four Korakuen Hall shows in a row beforehand. That was overkill and the attendance numbers showed. Anyway, let’s get to the final.

HARASHIMA and Shuji Ishikawa have known each other for a long time. They represent the same generation of DDT wrestlers and they’ve beaten each other to win the KO-D Openweight Championship. No matter how far they split off and drift apart, their paths will always meet again inside the DDT ring. Ishikawa’s goal for 2018 is to beat his 2017 accomplishments and winning the D-King is exactly what he needs to start that plan. HARASHIMA wants to avenge his losses to the champion Konosuke Takeshita but he is putting all of his attention into beating Ishikawa first. Ishikawa thinks that winning the tournament and then going on to win the championship at Sumo Hall will raise the value of the Grand Prix. He also thinks his extra experience from wrestling in other companies while HARASHIMA has stayed put inside the DDT walls is the difference maker between them. Ishikawa has the better record against HARASHIMA in singles matches. He has won 3 out of their 4 previous singles matches together. HARASHIMA won their last match back in December 2016. Plus he also beat him one time as HERO! way back in 2003, although he broke his foot during the match.

If Ishikawa wins he wants to invest the 1,900,000 yen of the 2,000,000 prize money in bitcoins because it is the fashionable thing to do now. The remaining 100,000 yen will be given to Daisuke Sasaki and Tetsuya Endo. HARASHIMA hasn’t thought about what he would do with the money but the amount on the line does excite him.

To celebrate 10 years in pro wrestling Ryuichi Sekine took on his Cavalry buddy Ryota Nakatsu in a 60 minute Ironman match. Sekine came out on top thanks to the Let’s Combine crab hold. The submission hold was used to make Nakatsu submit three times throughout the match. Nakatsu was only able to beat Sekine twice, once by countout after beating him up too much outside the ring. Both wrestlers were exhausted by the end and collapsed when the time expired. Sekine told Nakatsu he had nothing left after that. Nakatsu asked Sekine if he was still alive then congratulated him on his anniversary. Sekine pointed out that it wasn’t just his 10th anniversary. Today is also the 2nd anniversary of BASARA’s debut show! It irks him that BASARA is seen as Isami Kodaka’s promotion. Sekine just main evented the 2nd anniversary show in an hour long match. It should be him standing at the head of BASARA!

Since Takumi Tsukamoto is teaming with Yasu Urano for this year’s IRON FIST TAG TOURNAMENT, Isami Kodaka had to find another partner in order to enter the competition. After beating Takato Nakano, Kodaka decided that Nakano is just the guy he is looking for. But before he could confirm it, Yoshihisa Uto from Big Japan entered the ring. Uto teamed with Kodaka at the New Year’s Eve tag tournament, an experience Kodaka would like to forget. Kodaka & Uto will be entering the tournament. Nakano felt left out and asked what would happen to him. Kodaka told him that he will be teaming with Akiyori Takizawa in the tournament.

Last November Guts Ishijima went to pro wrestling court accused of breaking the Labour Standards Act. Today he was back in court accused of perjury in regards to comments he made from the previous case. Ishijima previously said that he was doing what he could to keep GUTS World alive. Hercules Senga claims this is false and Ishijima had talked to him about folding the company months before it happened. Senga also accused a bunch of GUTS World wrestlers of assaulting him and others when they all got drunk one time. Ishijima denied having memory of either situation and demanded proof. SAGAT was called in and he said he suffered a head injury during the brawl. Gouma Ryu objected and said SAGAT got that injury from a wrestling match he took part in that same day. Takumi Tsukamoto came out claiming the same injury. Senga then accused Ishijima of kissing women when he was drunk but Ishijima denied taking part in any kind of masochistic behaviour. Ryu openly regretted representing the same client twice and started a fight with Senga to progress the segment. Ishijima gave both of them a Double Lariat and pinned them. He was declared innocent as a result. Again.

Gota Ihashi is now at a crossroads in his life. He has asked DDT and Ganbare☆Wrestling to be removed from their upcoming shows for the time being. The cause of this happened after the Riki Choshu produced “POWER HALL 2018” show two days ago. Ihashi wrestled in the main event teaming with Choshu and Kota Ibushi to beat Tatsumi Fujinami, TAKA Michinoku & Daisuke Sekimoto. That sounds like a great thing for Ihashi. But afterwards he read the show reports and found comments from Choshu saying that Ihashi should not be doing pro wrestling. This has led to a crisis in confidence for Ihashi and he is considering leaving the business. Ken Ohka wants to get Ihashi out of his depression and he thinks a match between them is just what Ihashi needs to prove Riki Choshu wrong. Ohka wonders why Choshu even put Ihashi in his main event if he didn’t know what to expect from him? (*cough*so he could book Ibushi*cough*) Ihashi Vs Ohka will happen but not until 3rd February due to Ohka’s busy schedule. Ihashi is not looking forward to it.

Because of Ihashi’s situation, his Ganpuro match against Yukihiro Abe has been called off. Abe will take on a new opponent to be announced.

Tsukamoto is one half of last year’s winning team. The other half Isami Kodaka has yet to pick his new partner.

Everyone in BASARA is now getting ready for the 2nd annual IRON FIST TAG TOURNAMENT set to take place next month. Cavalry is the first team to announce their entry. Ryuichi Sekine told Isami Kodaka that he didn’t like him calling Fuminori Abe his rival in Osaka last week. Sekine wants to be Kodaka’s rival! Kodaka accepted Sekine’s challenge but they are still on good enough terms to close out the show together with Ryota Nakatsu.

Two other teams threw their names into the hat. Takumi Tsukamoto won last year’s tournament with Kodaka but this year he was asked by Yasu Urano to team with him. The two of them got to wrestle each other one on one today for the first time in around seven years. Also Best Stretchman V3 & Tsutomu Oosugi will enter as Team Best Stretch.

6. IRON FIST TAG TOURNAMENT – Final: Isami Kodaka & Takumi Tsukamoto defeated FUMA & Yusuke Kubo when Kodaka pinned FUMA with the Isamuashi Zan (23:07).

The final rounds of the IRON FIST TAG TOURNAMENT were the focus for today. IRON PRIEST defeated Hiroshi du Soleil in the first semi-final. Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi & SAGAT apologised for losing the match. Hiroshi said SAGAT would take time off to rest and will return at next month’s Tavern Wrestling show. This was news to SAGAT. In the other semi-final Isami Kodaka & Takumi Tsukamoto defeated Cavalry. In the final Kodaka & Tsukamoto won to become the first winners of the IRON FIST TAG TOURNAMENT! They were given a giant golden fist trophy as their prize. Kodaka looked at the trophy and admitted it was probably a stupid decision to have this thing made. He then brought up the upcoming BASARA show in Korakuen Hall on 25th December. Every day he is anxious over that show but he is putting forth all his effort to get a sell out crowd. One idea he has is to be a champion. So he and Tsukamoto are challenging Ikuto Hidaka & Hayato Jr. Fujita to an NWA International Lightweight Tag Team Titles match!

Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi interrupted the victory celebrations so he could confront Kodaka. Hiroshi brought up him beating Kodaka to win Heaven Summit ~Itadaki~ back in June. Since then Hiroshi has been undefeated in BASARA singles matches and is currently on a 12 match streak without being pinned or submitted. He thinks that makes him deserving of being a champion. He demanded a championship match. Kodaka didn’t understand until Hiroshi jogged his memory. Kodaka then remembered he still has the Union MAX Championship kept in storage next to the front door of his house! The belt was originally retired on the same night as Union Pro’s final show. They both agreed to revive the championship and have a match to determine the new champion on Christmas Day!

The IRON FIST TAG TOURNAMENT 1st Round was the focus of this show. Team BASARA defeated Team ZERO1 in the main event. Isami Kodaka wanted to give Ikuto Hidaka & Sean Guinness a chance to soak in the applause after a really fun match. The hosts of the tournament IRON PRIEST won their match against the Sportiva Combination. FUMA thinks he and Yusuke Kubo will effortlessly win the tournament. Hiroshi du Soleil went through over Daichi Kazato & Tomoya Kawamura. The result continues SAGAT’s recovery from his current slump. Finally Cavalry defeated Gouma Ryu & Masamune when an Masamune swung Gouma’s lawbook at Ryuichi Sekine but hit Gouma instead.

The semi-final matches on 29th October are Hiroshi du Soleil Vs IRON PRIEST and Cavalry Vs Kodaka & Takumi Tsukamoto. The final takes place on the same show. The four teams met in the ring at the end of the show to talk about who will win. Sekine reminded Kodaka that he beat him in the Heaven Summit ~Itadaki~ tournament earlier this year and he will do it again here.

Also Yumehito Imanari wants to put his match with Viper on the DVD even though that has nothing to do with the Tomodachi-gun feud.

Two changes to the Tokyo Joshi Pro roster has been announced. First, Marika Kobashi will be taking six months off from wrestling at the end of October. During that time she will finish her junior high school term and then prepare for her high school entrance exam. She is expected to return next spring, either March or April.

Secondly, Yuka Sakazaki will also take a leave of absence from Tokyo Joshi. Due to her recent performances she decided to travel to Magic Country and begin warrior training to become stronger. It is unknown how long this will take. In the meantime Yuka is sending her previously unacknowledged twin sister from Magic Country to take her place in Tokyo Joshi. Yuka’s sister is a masked luchadora named Mil Clown. She cannot speak any human language so she carries a teddy bear called Kumaun to talk on her behalf.

The Dai Ichin Pa-Lien Seiha was a series of bizarre deathmatches that took place in DDT throughout the 2000s. Previous match stipulations had the challengers wrestling blindfolded, wrestling with both of their arms covered in black paint and wrestling while wearing helmets with plates of curry on top of them.
