Almost the entire Tokyo Joshi Pro roster will get to say goodbye to Marika Kobashi all at once. She has to go through a team of 20 wrestlers before she can graduate so any loose ends involving her can get to be tied up. These kind of graduation matches have been done before and sometimes have extra stipulations or rules added to them but at the moment it looks to be a straightforward Handicap match where Kobashi takes on the world by herself.

If you notice someone is missing that is because Kaya Toribami is not here. She has something else scheduled that day and won’t be on the show.

This week Hisaya Imabayashi was invited over to the SAWAKI GYM for a special training session with AKIRA. Imabayashi made a promise to stand up for himself against Pheromones so his children will think he is cool. Although Imabayashi is not a physical specimen of any sort, his passion and determination was on show while he worked out with AKIRA. However when AKIRA briefly left the room to take a phone call, Pheromones creeped into the gym. They approached Imabayashi from behind and pulled his shirt over his head so he wouldn’t notice who they were. They then tricked him into doing lewd workouts in his underwear. It wasn’t until AKIRA returned and stopped them when Imabayashi realised he’s been embarrassed again! After Pheromones left, Imabayashi apologised to AKIRA but AKIRA told him he has to continue training if he wants to win. The DDT GM agreed and they finished their workout as intended, all so his kids think he is cool!

Daiki Shimomura beat Nakatsu the last time they fought each other but it was in a 2 Count Rules match. He is confident he can pin Nakatsu for a 3 Count and take the MAX Title from him.

2. 3 Way Match: SAGAT defeated Gouma and Lil Kraken when SAGAT pinned Gouma with the Goregrind (7:18).
3. Masahiro Takanashi & Chris Brookes defeated Takumi Tsukamoto & Yasu Urano when Brookes pinned Urano after the OATH At The Peach Garden (15:08).
4. Tsutomu Oosugi & Banana Senga defeated Takato Nakano & Masato Kamino when Oosugi pinned Nakano with a Cradle (9:40).
5. Union MAX Title: Ryota Nakatsu (c) defeated FUMA with a Back Roll Clutch (16:40).
*V4 for Ryota Nakatsu.

Ryota Nakatsu beats FUMA by the skin of his teeth to retain the Union MAX Title. Nakatsu thanked FUMA for the challenge and FUMA admitted the champion’s judo was stronger than his own kung fu. Daiki Shimomura walked out and reminded Nakatsu he beat him in the first round of last year’s Heaven Summit tournament. It was in a 2 Count match and even so, Tsukamoto claims he kicked out at 1.9. Shimomura said he can beat him with a three count so he challenged him to a title match next month.

Speed Of Sounds praised their opponents for becoming a stronger tag team, one that could beat them the next time they wrestle each other. Takato Nakano took their word and demanded a rematch with the IRON FIST Tag Titles on the line. If it is true that he and Masato Kamino have even a tiny percent chance of beating SOS then they want to take it. Tsutomu Oosugi tried to explain he only said that as a compliment but he & Banana Senga had to accept the challenge in the end. Nakano & Kamino want to win the belts and stand at the forefront of BASARA!

The OATH At The Peach Garden used by CDK is a Super Kick from Masahiro Takanashi into a Back Clutch Hold from Chris Brookes.

5. Union MAX Title: Ryota Nakatsu (c) defeated Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi with the V Slider (18:21).

The long delayed Union MAX Title match between Ryota Nakatsu and Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi finally took place. Nakatsu had a visual pin on Hiroshi with the V Slider but the referee Yuya Okada was knocked out earlier and couldn’t count it. Hiroshi did his best to fight back but Nakatsu hit another V Slider and this time Okada was there to count the pin. Hiroshi admitted he was overconfident but Nakatsu called him the best genius in BASARA.

Suddenly, FUMA ran in and gave Nakatsu a judo throw. He then revealed something he kept secret from everyone all this time. The leader of Asian Kung Fu Revolution is not a Chinese kung fu master! He is in fact Japanese and spent 6 years in a judo club during junior high and high school. Watching the title match made his heart go wild so he wants to challenge Nakatsu for the MAX Title. Nakatsu accepted the challenge but was in for a surprise. For you see, FUMA actually does know kung fu. He just lied to trick Nakatsu into giving him a title shot. FUMA promised he will use the 4,000 years of Chinese history found in his kung fu techniques to beat Nakatsu!

Yusuke Kubo kept yelling at Chicharito Shoki to go back to Chiba while they were fighting. Shoki refused because he wanted to wrestle in front of all the fans in Shin-Kiba 1st RING.

A dangerous request was put in HARUKAZE for Ganbare☆Pro’s return to Korakuen Hall. She demanded a Hardcore Match and threw the challenge out to both Shunma Katsumata and Akane Fujita! Those two already have tension between them over accusations of weapon plagiarism but they have to team together for this match. HARUKAZE found Mizuki Watase to be her partner and make the match an intergender tag.

There has been little follow up to the rumours of CyberFight wanting to sign Maya Yukihi to a contract. She has her story with Saki Akai in DDT going on until March so once that finishes up we may find out what she wants to do next. But before that, she will show up in Ganpro again for a tag match highlighting the Ganbare☆Joshi division.

Seeing Ken Ohka positioned this low on a major Ganpro card is weird. I welcome it because the rest of the group has stepped up over the last two years but it’s still weird.

DDT “MEGA MAX BUMP 2022 TOUR IN YOKOHAMA”, 01/05/2022

The next KO-D Openweight Title defence will be held at DDT’s next big show after their 25th Anniversary celebration. Either Konosuke Takeshita or Tetsuya Endo will defend the title at the Yokohama Budokan against an opponent to be determined.

Also on the show will be the return of Hikaru Sato to DDT for the first time since 2019. Sato was a DDT mainstay from 2008 to 2014 and even held the KO-D Title one time. He makes some one-off appearances here and there but those times were for spin-off shows or special occasions.

TJPW x Prestige, Covid Updates

Yesterday Prestige Wrestling announced they have begun a working relationship with Tokyo Joshi Pro. They tweeted “Over the coming months & years we will bring many of their top stars to the United States!” Prestige has been around since 2017 but had not run any shows since 2019 because of the pandemic. 2022 is their re-launch and they have several shows booked in Oregon and California throughout springtime.

I don’t have much thought on this at the moment. The gap of time between Prestige’s last show to now is long enough that this may as well be a brand new indie so I have no idea what matches to think could happen. At least it’s a potential sign of international travel opening up for the TJPW roster and there might be more work in America available for them than just AEW. Fingers crossed it works out for both sides if it goes ahead.

Daiki Shimomura tested negative and has since returned to his normal activities. Yuya Okada had already tested positive last week and is at home getting treatment. BASARA will make decisions on upcoming shows based on medical advice once everyone is caught up on their current situations.

Both Yukio Naya and Yusuke Okada were recently identified as close contacts with Covid and have to pull out of tomorrow’s show. Neither have shown any illness but will both stay home to avoid any possible spread of the virus. Changes are made to the card because of this. Yuya Koroku no longer has a singles match (Okada was his original opponent), instead he will replace Naya in what is now Match #2.

On New Year’s Eve Ryota Nakatsu won a Battle Royal to determine the No. 1 Contender of the Union MAX Title. Since he is already the champion his reward was to choose his next opponent. He picked Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi, the person he last eliminated to win the Battle Royal.

The first IRON FIST Tag Champions have a chance to reclaim the belts. Look BASARA is a small promotion they can only cycle through the same teams for title matches over and over. IRON PRIEST lost the titles to Speed Of Sounds the first time around too. So maybe winning them back will bring some closure to the rivalry on their end.

1. SAGAT defeated Lil Kraken with the Goregrind (8:28).
2. Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi & Daichi Kazato defeated Tsutomu Oosugi & Gouma when Hiroshi submitted Gouma with the Kesagatame (11:11).
3. FUMA & Yusuke Kubo defeated Takato Nakano & Masato Kamino when Kubo pinned Kamino with the Death Metal Roll (14:00).
4. Takumi Tsukamoto, Fuminori Abe & Masahiro Takanashi defeated Isami Kodaka, Daiki Shimomura & Minoru Fujita when Tsukamoto pinned Shimomura with the O-Cannon Bomb (16:19).
5. Union MAX Title: Ryota Nakatsu (c) defeated Banana Senga with the V Slider (16:47).
*V2 for Ryota Nakatsu.

Ryota Nakatsu jokingly made sure he didn’t break Banana Senga’s jaw this time and kept asking him if his chin was ok after the main event. Senga was angry over losing to Nakatsu and had to be held back by Tsutomu Oosugi. He was told he was getting hot headed before their next match where this time the IRON FIST Tag Titles will be on the line. After Speed Of Sounds left, Nakatsu said he & SAGAT will win the belts on 26th December and he will become a double crown champion! Sparky and SOS later had another confrontation backstage after the show.

Earlier this year Takumi Tsukamoto was a triple crown champion holding the Union MAX Title, the BJW Death Match Title and the obscure CCW Canadian Heavyweight Title. He eventually lost the first two but still has the CCW Title in his possession. Little is known about the origins of the title but Tsukamoto was told it was brought to Japan by Bad News Allen around 20 years ago and other former champions include Shigeo Okumura and Kazuhiko Matsuzaki. It was revived five years ago and Tsukamoto was even part of the tournament to crown the new champion. Daichi Kazato told him he never defends the title so he dared him to put it on the line against him. It took some convincing but in the end Tsukamoto agreed to a title match on 26th December.

This was Minoru Fujita’s first match in BASARA since August. Masahiro Takanashi paused the match to congratulate him on his return from illness. He then hit him with the Rocket Punch.

During Match #2 Kazato and Oosugi got into an endless cycle of Tombstone reversals along the entrance ramp that took them away from ringside and out of their match. They returned to the ring still doing the reversals after Match #4. Oosugi won out by hitting the Tombstone on Kazato and left. Kazato then grabbed a microphone while prone and made his CCW Title challenge to Tsukamoto.

Since Kenta Kobashi will be in attendance to see the D-Ou Grand Prix final, Tetsuya Endo decided to visit him at his gym during the week to get some feedback on his tournament performance. Endo also brought up his plans to create a new unit. He asked Kobashi for advice, citing Kobashi’s experience leading units such as GET and Burning. Kobashi said a unit needs a strategist so Endo’s position would improve if he finds a councilor. Endo immediately asked Kobashi if he could take that role in the unit. Kobashi declined because he is not interested in returning to the ring. He did however invite Endo back to his gym again after the Grand Prix so they could talk more about potential members for Endo’s new unit.

While I’ve been writing up this blog post, all of a sudden DDT sends out a tweet in English hyping up a big mystery name. “That BIG NAME that everyone’s talking about recently will be at DDT 12.26 NEVER MIND 2021 in YOYOGI! The name will be announced at DDT 12.5 Korakuen Hall! Stay tuned LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE!” I’m out of the loop on this one.

Around five years ago Nakatsu broke Senga’s jaw in a match and while he accepts the blame over the injury, he doesn’t think he is responsible now to pay for any compensation towards Senga. Instead he is willing to defend the MAX Title against him.
