My best wishes go out to Super Sasadango Machine for a healthy recovery. He was taken off last Sunday’s Korakuen Hall show with poor health as the reason. A few days later DDT announced that a check up in a hospital found out he is suffering from a mild heart disease. His physician said rest is necessary and he will not be able to wrestle again until further notice. Some of the card changes as the result of this can be seen below.

The folks at Ganbare☆Wrestling had some time to relax after their successful Korakuen Hall debut but now a familiar threat has returned in new clothing. Osamu Namiguchi suddenly announced this week he is creating his own pro wrestling group called Shin Ganbare☆Wrestling (シン・ガンバレ☆プロレス)! The use of Shin (シン) in this name does not mean “new”, it means “thin” as in “Thin Godzilla” from the new kaiju movie. Namiguchi thinks Ganpuro is fake like Hollywood’s Godzilla but Shin Ganpuro will be pure just like “Thin Godzilla”. Shin Ganpuro’s debut will take place on 12th November in Tokyo BASEMENT MON☆STAR at the same time as the normal Ganpuro’s scheduled show. It will only consist of one match and Namiguchi challenged Ken Ohka & Yumehito Imanari to a tag team match. Namiguchi has a mystery partner for the occasion. Ohka accepted and the match will also technically be the main event of the normal Ganpuro show.

DDT Universe Coming Soon!

DDT is the latest wrestling company to set up a video on-demand service. DDT Universe will be available on computers, phones and tablets from January 2017. The service gives subscribers unlimited access to shows from DDT, DNA, BASARA, Tokyo Joshi Pro, Ganbare☆Wrestling and other spin-offs such as Street Wrestling matches. The intention is to have all the shows from Korakuen Hall and Sumo Hall throughout the year be aired live on the service. Monthly subscriptions cost 900 yen which at the time of writing is about €7.95/$8.65/£7.05 per month.

So far so good but there’s a few things we don’t know about yet. DDT has been around for almost 20 years so they have a lot of matches and shows in their archives. The website trailer did show clips of old DDT gimmicks like Super Uchu Power and HERO! as well as early footage of Sanshiro Takagi. Music is already dubbed over with in-house songs on the official DVDs so I assume that is also how the website will handle entrances. Region locking shouldn’t be a problem. The price is in line with the other services out there and when you combine all the brands together the DDT family there should be a lot of new videos added every month. And if wrestling isn’t enough there are plans to do reality style shows for some of the DDT roster. No mention of compatibility with devices such as Chromecast which would be a bit of a downer. Still given how little of the spin offs make tape it’s great to see this service get set up.

Katsumata Pulls Out Of DNA Grand Prix, Nakatsu Takes His Place

Unfortunately Shunma Katsumata’s fractured right elbow will not recover in time for the DNA Grand Prix so he has to pull out of the tournament. He went for a diagnosis yesterday and found out he needs a few more weeks of recovery time. Ryota Nakatsu formerly of DNA and now with BASARA has been brought in to take Katsumata’s spot. A majority of the line-up appeared for a press conference and gave some comments. Kazusada Higuchi wants to win so he can show off his power. He thinks the Grand Prix is urging everyone in DNA to become serious. He also welcomes Nakatsu into the tournament. Kouki Iwasaki is determined to beat Higuchi when their A Block match happens on the final night. MAO wants to do his best not just for himself but also for Katsumata now that he is out of the tournament. He also feels confident that his new Chile Driver finisher will ruin his opponent’s chances to win the A Block. Yuki Ueno is ready to go through his first five days of matches. He requested to wear the standard plain rookie wrestling gear for his debut instead of choosing his own design like many of the other DNA wrestlers have done. Both Rekka and Royce Isaacs were not at the press conference.

Over in B Block, Guanchulo thinks he is the most energetic out of the four foreign wrestlers entering the Grand Prix. Daiki Shimomura wants to bring in and lead a new era for DNA. Nobuhiro Shimatani doesn’t want to lose to Shimomura. Mike Bailey is counting on his experience from wrestling in both North America and Europe to win. Meanwhile Mizuki Watase is motivated by his own experience from wrestling legends. He’s been told by some that he has a good Dropkick so he is looking forward to Dropkicking everyone in the face. Finally, Nakatsu isn’t impressed by DNA’s current state. Ever since he left two of their stars have gotten injured. He is going into the Grand Prix as a dirty character aiming to win for both BASARA and Cavalry.

DNA Grand Prix Full Schedule

The first ever DNA Grand Prix is set to take place this month. From 17th to 21st October the DNA roster will go through a round robin tournament with a one way ticket to New York on the line. Every group match has a 20 minute time limit, wins are worth 2 points and draws are worth 1 point. The winners of each group face each other in the final with no time limit set. Fans attending the shows are encouraged to film the matches (but not entrances or aftermaths, basically anything with theme music playing is a no go) and post footage online with the hashtag #DNA_GP.

Ken Ohka is feeling flustered after the Korakuen Hall seating chart for this show appeared on screen during Sunday’s DDT show revealing many unsold tickets. Ohka said Amon Tsurumi put that on the screen without his permission. Ohka has promised to retire if the show doesn’t sell out. Not only that but a lot of money was borrowed to put this show together. If that isn’t bad enough their T-shirt design for the occasion hasn’t been completed yet and the DVD team are too busy putting together a Ganbare Vs Tomodachi-gun release so they can’t immediately work on editing the Korakuen show as soon as it ends. Also Yumehito Imanari wants to put his match with Viper on the DVD even though that has nothing to do with the Tomodachi-gun feud.

The problem was in the end Miyatake wanted to marry for love not fame, so he declined to marry LiLiCo. Fearing a public relations disaster, Dino and some of the senior members of DDT are now scrambling to find a new boyfriend for LiLiCo. Whoever they turn out to be, they must fight for LiLiCo’s love.

Yuu thinks Rika Tatsumi has a cute look but that makes her soft. Tatsumi can’t put into words why she thinks she can win the title from Yuu but it isn’t luck.

Two changes to the Tokyo Joshi Pro roster has been announced. First, Marika Kobashi will be taking six months off from wrestling at the end of October. During that time she will finish her junior high school term and then prepare for her high school entrance exam. She is expected to return next spring, either March or April.

Secondly, Yuka Sakazaki will also take a leave of absence from Tokyo Joshi. Due to her recent performances she decided to travel to Magic Country and begin warrior training to become stronger. It is unknown how long this will take. In the meantime Yuka is sending her previously unacknowledged twin sister from Magic Country to take her place in Tokyo Joshi. Yuka’s sister is a masked luchadora named Mil Clown. She cannot speak any human language so she carries a teddy bear called Kumaun to talk on her behalf.
