IRON FIST TAG TOURNAMENT 2023

The IRON FIST TAG TOURNAMENT is back for the first time since 2020. It is also going to be the first time the reigning IRON FIST Tag Team Champions will be competing in the tournament. The 2020 tournament was held to determine the No. 1 Contenders and the 2019 edition was to crown the first champions. Every playoff match has a 30 minute time limit except for the final which has no time limit. If a match ends in a draw then both teams are eliminated. The teams taking part are:

With another title defence in the books, Speed Of Sounds think everything was easy-peasy today. Last time they held the IRON FIST Tag Titles they defended them for a year. This time they want to defend it for two years so it will feel like going from Normal difficulty to Hard mode. IRON PRIEST thought they had everything it took to win the titles today. Yusuke Kubo thinks their plan fell apart in the middle of the match. FUMA put everything he gained from the two years since the teams last fought each other into the match and felt he failed right at the end. They will not lose hope though and are ready for a rematch whenever and wherever Speed Of Sounds want it.

For the last time Isami Kodaka and Tank Nagai got to wrestle each other. After the match ended in a draw, Kodaka told Nagai that just because his wrestling career is ending does not mean his life is. No matter what Nagai does next, Kodaka wants him to remember this match and go for it. Nagai said he and his wife Mio Shirai are about to have their third child. The next time he comes to BASARA in some form, he’ll be able to show the power of all five members of his family.

On New Year’s Eve Ryota Nakatsu won a Battle Royal to determine the No. 1 Contender of the Union MAX Title. Since he is already the champion his reward was to choose his next opponent. He picked Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi, the person he last eliminated to win the Battle Royal.

The first IRON FIST Tag Champions have a chance to reclaim the belts. Look BASARA is a small promotion they can only cycle through the same teams for title matches over and over. IRON PRIEST lost the titles to Speed Of Sounds the first time around too. So maybe winning them back will bring some closure to the rivalry on their end.

Today BASARA bid farewell to The ★ Trans-Am (aka Trans-Am ★ Ji, aka Trans-Am ★ Ryuji, aka Trans-Am ★ Ryuichi, aka Ryuichi Kawakami). He is going back to America but his future lies elsewhere, some place GLEAT so I hear. For his final BASARA match, his opponent Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi appeared in his classic pre-yoga costume wearing a blonde wig to match the hairstyle he had at that time. The wig was accidentally pulled off during the match and Hiroshi reacted to it by reverting to his current yoga persona. The BASARA roster took part in the farewell ceremony for Ryuji after the match.

Takumi Tsukamoto is handling the double champion role well. He now has 4 Union MAX Title defences to his name, the latest coming from a submission win over Daichi Kazato. He said winning this match gave him a lot of confidence. Nobody came out to challenge him afterwards which he thinks is a good thing. It shows he has become so strong that everyone might now be scared of him!

Isami Kodaka wants to give Daiki Shimomura all of the credit for their successful IRON FIST Tag Titles defence against IRON PRIEST. According to Kodaka, he couldn’t get his engine running until late the very end of the match. But he isn’t going to dwell on that. Instead, Kodaka wants to defend the BJW Jr. Heavyweight Title on a BASARA show next month. He needs Big Japan’s permission first but hopes they will let him do a title match on 10th April.

What are the full rules for the Jacket Match? According to Gouma, nobody knows! It was made even more confusing when applied to a tag team match. Speed Of Sounds were able to beat Gouma & Fuminori Abe fair and square but the two sides kept fighting after it ended.

3. Jacket Match: Ryota Nakatsu defeated Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi with a Cross Heel Hold (R3 1:45).
4. Yasu Urano, Tsutomu Oosugi & Banana Senga defeated Takumi Tsukamoto, Fuminori Abe & Masato Kamino when Urano pinned Kamino with a Cradle (12:10).
5. IRON FIST Tag Titles: Isami Kodaka & Daiki Shimomura (c) defeated SAGAT & Akiyori Takizawa when Shimomura pinned Takizawa with the Swanton Bomb (13:38).
*V1 for Sento Minzoku.

Sento Minzoku were challenged by FUMA & Yusuke Kubo for the IRON FIST Tag Titles in a rematch from last year’s IRON FIST TAG TOURNAMENT semi-final. FUMA is convinced the result back then wasn’t right and that IRON PRIEST is the better team. Daiki Shimomura accepted and wants the match to happen on 23rd March.

Yasu Urano tried to lull Takumi Tsukamoto into a false sense of security with a handshake after their match. Tsukamoto knew what was coming and blocked a sneak kick Urano threw at him. Tsukamoto then pulled a plastic bag out of his pocket and tried to suffocate Urano with it until the others at ringside pulled them apart.

Ryota Nakatsu is getting invested in the Jacket Match concept. He is keeping a ranking and currently places himself in first. Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi went into the match ranked 7th and there was no change after Nakatsu tapped him out.

*Fuminori Abe fails in V5. Takumi Tsukamoto becomes the 15th Union MAX Champion!

In his third attempt, Takumi Tsukamoto has become the new Union MAX Champion! After the match the former champion Fuminori Abe admitted he never felt more frustrated after a loss. He was able to do so much as the MAX Champion and it today he was reminded there is somebody out there stronger than him. He remembered when he won the title from Masahiro Takanashi under unfortunate circumstances. The BASARA fans still supported him and still treated him like a deserving champion. He knows they will continue to support him so he will be 100 million times stronger when he fights Tsukamoto again in order to win the belt back! Tsukamoto said that BASARA is just about to become 5 years old. It is still an immature and developing promotion just like he is still an immature and developing human being. He burst into tears from the crowd cheering him and joked about being a crybaby. He promised to devote himself to being Takumi Tsukamoto in order to get even more stronger.

One of the IRON FIST TAG TOURNAMENT semi-finals is set. IRON PRIEST will take on Isami Kodaka & Daiki Shimomura for a spot in the final on 7th December. It is the rematch of last year’s final and Shimomura wants revenge!

In the week leading up to the show, FUMA announced the Iron Family was disbanding and a new unit will replace it. The new unit is called Asian Kung Fu Revolution because the roots of both yoga and heavy metal can be found in Asia. FUMA, Yusuke Kubo, Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi & Daichi Kazato are the members of this group.

IRON FIST TAG TOURNAMENT 2020

The 4th edition of the IRON FIST TAG TOURNAMENT will take place throughout the remaining months of the year. Last year’s tournament crowned the first IRON FIST TAG Champions.
