D-Ou Grand Prix 2021

The 14 entries for D-Ou Grand Prix 2021 have been revealed. This year’s tournament will last for eight shows. The field is split into two blocks of seven wrestlers and the winner of each block advances to the final. 2 points for a win, 1 points for a draw and 0 points for a loss. Block matches have a 30 minute time limit and the final has no time limit. If there is a tie for first place then a tiebreaker match will be held to determine who advances. That means no direct confrontation rule for the tiebreaker this year.

D-Ou Grand Prix Schedule Changes

October 12, 2020

An emergency press conference was held today announcing changes to the D-Ou Grand Prix 2021 schedule. The two dates reserved for DDT TV SHOW tapings (28/11 & 5/12) are now taking place in Narimasu Act Hall and tickets will be free for fans to attend. The changes were made when fans requested the shows be held at venues they can go to see live instead of having them inside an empty studio. The free ticket campaign in the past has brought in new people to see DDT for the first time so it is being attempted again for the two replacement shows. Sanshiro Takagi admits it is a difficult idea to be running free shows while the business has been impacted by COVID-19. But it is a risk he is willing to take in order to make new fans.

The list of participants entering the D-Ou Grand Prix will be revealed during “ULTIMATE PARTY 2020” on 3rd November.

In sudden news, Natsumi Maki and Mina Shirakawa will be finishing up with Tokyo Joshi Pro at the end of the month. That means this show will be their final matches with the promotion. Both of their contracts are expiring on 30th September but TJPW made the decision not to re-sign them. Both of them have thanked the fans for supporting them and would be grateful if they continue to do so wherever their wrestling careers take them. Maki said her year and 8 months in TJPW were very important and gave her big steps to climb. Shirakawa said she will continue to devote herself every day to grow as a wrestler.

Mizuki added a new Rolling Body Attack to her arsenal. She hit the move on Nodoka Tenma to set up Yuka Sakazaki’s Magical Girl Splash. Mizuki then followed up with the Diving Foot Stomp to get the three count. After the match Sakazaki said didn’t see the move in its complete form. She’d like to know what it is Mizuki did. Mizuki asked everyone to keep the move a secret from Sakazaki. She also asked the Osaka fans to come support her at “WRESTLE PRINCESS”. Sakazaki sounds certain she will remain on good terms with Mizuki until the day of that show.

Yuki Kamifuku & Mahiro Kiryu made their entrance carrying the Toyo University flag. They have bonded together in the past as tag partners and opponents over going to the same college.

Hyper Misao discovered a pendant that she claimed could only be worn by a superstar. It was made up of four colours the represented the elements of a superstar: Yellow for dancing, green for singing, red for star quality and blue for humanity. Only one person deserved to wear it and Misao knew who it was. Pom Harajuku! She placed the necklace onto Harajuku… then began choking her with it. At least Misao gave it back to Harajuku after the match as a kind gesture.

It’s been a while since Yuki Ueno got to wrestle in his hometown of Osaka again, eight months to be exact. In that time he has gotten stronger and became the KO-D Tag Team Champion with Naomi Yoshimura. Since Ueno won the fall in the main event, HARASHIMA gave him the spot in closing out the show. He said the next time he will wrestle in Osaka will be for Yukinori Matsui’s produce show next month.

Jun Akiyama heard that Keiko Takeshita was in attendance today. He greeted her before the show and joked he would tease her a little bit by bullying her son in the ring. Konosuke Takeshita spent too much time fighting Akiyama during the match. He couldn’t make it to the ring in time to save Shunma Katsumata from submitting to Makoto Oishi. They will face off in another tag at Korakuen Hall this Monday before facing off again in Nagoya two weeks later. All of this is preparation for their big singles match at “ULTIMATE PARTY 2020”.

From the beginning Chris Brookes didn’t want to team with Maku Donaruto. He walked out on the match when he got fed up with getting involved in Donaruto’s lewd spots. Sanshiro Takagi tried to keep the match going but he ran off when the back of his tights were pulled down. Danshoku Dieno had Donaruto beaten with the Danshoku Driver when Brookes returned dressed like Donaruto! Takagi also came back wearing Donaruto gear too. The three Donarutos attacked Daisuke Kiso forcing the match to be called off.

Yukio Naya immediately pinned Kazuki Hirata in the opening match. Hirata got a rematch confirmed because he didn’t want the first DDT show in 8 months to start this way. Naya pulled out the penlights and danced with them to counter Hirata. However he got too focused on dancing while Hirata pinned Keigo Nakamura.

Ueno & HUB Vs Takeshita & Billy Ken Kid along with Masato Tanaka & Shigehiro Irie Vs Kazusada Higuchi & Yukio Sakaguchi were both announced for Matsui’s show on 18th October.

Yuki Iino’s back pains were discovered to be caused by a spinal epidural haematoma. He had a successful surgery to get it removed a few days ago and will leave the hospital this week. It’s more important than their 6 or 7 years of friendship. Parker thinks success in Japan has gone to Brookes’ head.

Tetsuya Endo will announced his official opponent for “ULTIMATE PARTY 2020” on this show. More on this below but he has several candidates in mind. They’re probably all gravure models. If that doesn’t work he is also open to anybody he hasn’t considered yet to make their case.

The Independent World Jr. Heavyweight Title has been saved. The hard work begins now for the new champion Asuka because she already has somebody targeting her. Shinichiro Tominaga is the first challenger and his goal is to be the first Amateur pro wrestler (as in college club wrestling, not actual amateur wrestling) to win the Indy Jr. Title. He’s not afraid to attack from behind or cheap shot his way to victory either, as shown by his win over Ken Ohka and what he did to Asuka after challenging her.

The GWC 6-Man Tag Team Titles were last defended in February when THE HALFEE were a newly formed trio challenging for the titles. Ganpocha-gun defeated them and done nothing with the belts since then. A lot has changed since then and Moeka Haruhi wants her team to get another title shot. If THE HALFEE wins this time then they aim to defend the titles at Korakuen Hall in October.

Kouki Iwasaki and Ikuto Hidaka got into a fight after their tag match on the last show. The singles match is the obvious solution to this.

Ganbare☆Wrestling returns to Korakuen Hall to hold their third show in the building. Yumehito Imanari’s current infatuation with ZERO1 results in Shinjiro Otani returning to Ganpro after his match with Imanari last November. This time they’re teaming up against two thirds of the former Team Dream Futures. It looks like Keisuke Ishii is in a slump after losing the Indy World Jr. Title. Shigehiro Irie’s Ganpro appearances have all been him coming and going at his own leisure.

Months ago Yuna Manase tweeted a picture of Takumi Iroha making an entrance, commenting on how cool she looks. Fast forward to now and she will get to wrestle her! They’ve had one singles match against each other and a tag match teaming together over in Stardom but they were way back in 2014. Things are way different with both of them nowadays.

Kota Umeda emerges from the shadows again. He was last seen wrestling in BASARA back in January. He has a lot of history with Kouki Iwasaki when they were in DNA together so it will be fun to see the sparks fly when they fight each other again.

Here is the update to Endo picking Kenny Omega as his next KO-D Openweight Title defence. Omega is unable to enter Japan while the Coronavirus pandemic is happening so the match will not take place at “ULTIMATE PARTY 2020”. When Omega is able to travel to Japan again, that is when Endo Vs Omega will happen in DDT. Until then, Endo has to pick another wrestler to defend the KO-D Title against at Ota Ward Gymnasium in November. As already mentioned above, Endo will pick his opponent on 7th September.

Omega sent a video to Endo responding to the challenge. Omega said Endo is not on the same level as him no matter how much Endo models himself after Omega. He sees that Endo is the top superstar in DDT who got everything he wanted. But Omega has conquered wrestling all over the world. When he goes back to DDT he will be Endo’s teacher again and will give Endo a lesson he will never forget. He will spank Endo until he cries to Konosuke Takeshita, HARASHIMA, Sanshiro Takagi and Yukinori Matsui for help. And when Omega wins the KO-D Title, the fans will thank him for saving DDT from Endo.

Endo gave his response after watching the video. He said Omega hasn’t changed since anything since the time they lived in the same dormitory. Omega’s story isn’t interesting. If he can’t got to Japan then maybe Endo will go to America and quarantine himself for two weeks to make the match happen.

That was a long stretch of tournament shows we just had. There is a couple of days rest for Tokyo Joshi Pro before they hold the Tokyo Princess Cup quarter finals. Last year’s winner Mizuki faces the most recent Princess Title challenger Yuki Aino. The last remaining Up Up Girls member in the competition Miu Watanabe takes on Maki Itoh. Over on the other side of the bracket, Natsumi Maki and Shoko Nakajima promises to be frantic. Finally Miyu Yamashita’s meets the biggest reminder of her Princess Cup curse. Hyper Misao’s upset over Yamashita back in 2016 is what cemented this jinx in the first place. But did Misao use up all her luck knocking out Yuka Sakazaki?

The King Of DDT is down to Tetsuya Endo, Kazusada Higuchi, Akito and T-Hawk. The winner headlines “ULTIMATE PARTY 2020” at Ota Ward Gymnasium in November. Endo has different connections with the rest of the final four. He feuded with Higuchi throughout the DDT TV SHOW series earlier this year. He was beaten in the 1st Round by Akito but was rescued from elimination by winning the Dramatic Chance Battle Royal. And his partnership with T-Hawk is the origin of the DAMNHEARTS business alliance. Akito wants revenge on T-Hawk after he lost to him at “JUDGEMENT 2019” in Sumo Hall last February.

There is also the two unusual joshi offshoots Gake no Fuchi Joshi and Pocchari Joshi getting paired against each other.

Abe quickly bounced back from that result two days later by winning the BJW Tag Team Titles with Takuya Nomura so he is now a double champion.

Junretsu and ALL OUT are back to fighting each other. Jun Akiyama is only scheduled to wrestle on four DDT shows in September. This is the first date. He will also be on the two Korakuen Hall shows as well as an event in Nagoya.

Chris Brookes & Maku Donaruto now get the chance to be more friendly towards each other.
