Martial Arts Open, Akai’s Okibariyasu Series, 1st IRON FIST TAG Defence

October 31, 2019

The “ULTIMATE PARTY 2019!” preview is almost finished but I found some time to squeeze in this news report. The preview will be posted in an hour or two.

YAROZ “YAROZ PART 8”, 12/11/2018
Shin-Kiba 1st RING

1. Cherry Vs Banny Oikawa
2. Sensual Novel Death Match: Naoki Tanizaki Vs Hiroshi Yamato

I get that Hiroshi Yamato is a lover, not a fighter. But Naoki Tanizaki? Really? Maybe back when he was a surfer.

Jiro Kuroshio will be on the show. Is he mean enough to fit in with YaroZ?

2. KO-D Openweight Title: Konosuke Takeshita/HARASHIMA (c) Vs X

Saki Akai is setting up a series of matches against joshi from outside of DDT. She wants to show off what she can do on her own while still presenting how interesting a place DDT is. It is called the “Okibariyasu” series because that word means “Do Your Best” when said in the Kyoto dialect. The first match is against Tsukasa Fujimoto from Ice Ribbon. Akai had wrestled her once before in an exhibition match five years ago back when she was training to be a wrestler.

Shinya Aoki, Chris Brookes, Jiro Kuroshio and Hiroshi Yamato will all be on the show.

D-Ou Grand Prix 2020 Schedule

October 29, 2019

The participants for the 3rd annual (I guess?) D-Ou Grand Prix was already revealed this month and now the block schedule has come out. The usual round robin rules apply: 30 minute time limits, 2 points for a win and 1 point for a draw. Tiebreakers are determined by the direct match result(s) between the tied wrestlers. Something to note is at the time of writing the prize for the winner has not been announced yet. Something like a KO-D Openweight Title shot is expected but where and when would be a mystery unless DDT announces a big arena show for next spring. I can’t see the winner holding onto the prize long enough for “WRESTLE PETER PAN 2020” in June.

A Block

Tetsuya Endo (3rd Appearance)
Keisuke Ishii (2nd Appearance)

Atsushi Onita demonstrated the power of the Current Blast to some of the wrestlers booked on the show. Yukio Naya, FUMA and Yumehito Imanari wanted to know what the blasts are like so Onita hit a pumpkin with a current blast baseball bat. Obviously the pumpkin did not survive. Even more scary is Onita told them the blasts will be twice as powerful on the show! He wants to use the most powerful explosions ever for a current blast death match!

A joshi match will be the last addition to the show.

A long time has passed since then but they are going to lock horns once more, this time with Kouki Iwasaki and Shigehiro Irie also involved. Speaking of Iwasaki and Irie, those two have clashed several times in Ganpro this year so their interactions are something to look out for too.

7b. Shoko Nakajima pinned Yuka Sakazaki with the Diving Senton (12:12).
7c. Konosuke Takeshita submitted HARASHIMA with the Walls Of Takeshita (19:40).

We are one week away from DDT hosting an Ultimate Party at Sumo Hall! Today’s show in Korakuen Hall was a massive preview of next week’s show with plenty of mixed matches between the DDT brands. The main event showed this off the most as some of the top names in DDT, BASARA, Tokyo Joshi Pro and Ganbare☆Wrestling took part in a Best 2 out of 3 Falls match. Despite the 6-Man Tag layout, the focus was split between Konosuke Takeshita Vs HARASHIMA, Shoko Nakajima Vs Yuka Sakazaki and Ken Ohka Vs Isami Kodaka. The first fall went to Kodaka’s team when he cut off Ohka’s Fire Spear with a Knee Strike and then pinned him with a Modified Samson Clutch.

Kodaka went for the same move again at the start of the 2nd fall but this time Ohka kicked out. It was here when the match-ups started to get more diverse. Nakajima and Kodaka fought each other and Takeshita wiped out Sakazaki with the Fable. Takeshita placed HARASHIMA in the Walls Of Takeshita by the ropes while Nakajima pinned Sakazaki with the Diving Senton to tie the match 1-1.

The final fall had HARASHIMA’s team all put their opponents in a Cobra Twist at the same time. Ohka was sent out of the ring and one by one Kodaka, Nakajima and Sakazaki dove onto everyone below. That left Takeshita and HARASHIMA alone in the ring. HARASHIMA hit the Somato but Takeshita rolled it into the Walls Of Takeshita! Sensing a repeat of Osaka two weeks ago, Naomi Yoshimura tried to throw in the towel. However this time Toru Owashi prevented that from happening and wanted HARASHIMA to keep fighting. Unfortunately HARASHIMA had no choice but to give up, making Takeshita’s team the ultimate winners.

When HARASHIMA was taken out of the ring, Takeshita had a message for him. It is not training that makes HARASHIMA stronger, it is losing. So at Sumo Hall Takeshita will be waiting for a HARASHIMA that is stronger than he was today. Even so, Takeshita will still beat him next week. He thanked Ohka and Nakajima for their help today. He wants everyone to know that it was no exaggeration that he won today because of Ohka. He ended his victory speech by saying all of the brands will bring their best to Sumo Hall!

Chris Brookes is back in DDT and with Masahiro Takanashi has quickly claimed No. 1 Contendership for the KO-D Tag Team Titles! Their opponents Nautilus had their own sick tag moves up their sleeves. Yoshimura blocked a Cutter from Brookes and held him over the ropes for Yuki Ueno to hit a Flying Body Press. Takanashi stopped the pin and gave Ueno the Takatonic. Ueno was then finished off with a Thrust Kick/Praying Mantis Bomb combo. CDK will now wait to see who comes out of Sumo Hall as the tag champs. Takanashi wants CDK to become the strongest tag team in DDT history!

The normally cheerful Jiro Kuroshio was thrown off his game when Tetsuya Endo found a way to stop his never ending entrance. When Kuroshio ran and posed through the crowds, Endo decided to start doing flips and other acrobatic feats inside the ring to take the attention away from his opponent. Kuroshio attacked Endo when the chants of “Endo” drowned out the “Ikemen” chants. While Kuroshio did pull off some fancy moves, he was more aggressive than normal against Endo and he even flipped off the crowd! Endo turned the tables with a Swan Dive Elbow then used the Tetsuya In The Sky, the Torture Rack Bomb and finally the Shooting Star Press to pick up the win.

Endo admitted he feels sad that they can’t have a rematch since Kuroshio is moving to America next year. Kuroshio said he really wanted to win but he still had fun. He doesn’t know when they will wrestle again but their generation will continue to create exciting wrestling! The two shook hands to end their feud.

The Hardcore 4 Way was a violent preview for next week’s KO-D Tag Titles match. Daiki Shimomura and FUMA brought out the weapons, Daisuke Sasaki easily went along with it and Akito tried to adapt as best he could. Shimomura and FUMA hit each other over the head with steel cans loads of times. They also unintentionally worked together by hitting a Shiranui/Power Bomb combo on Akito in the corner. Sasaki Speared Shimomura out of the ring and through a table. FUMA took out Sasaki with a Brainbuster from the top of a ladder. Akito played it clever by using a chair to hook FUMA into a cradled pin but FUMA was able to kick out of it. FUMA then threw Akito onto a ladder with an Exploder Suplex and got the win with the HEAVY METAL ANTHEM with a bunch of chairs included.

FUMA chanted “Heavy Metal!” after the match but was interrupted by Shunma Katsumata. FUMA immediately attacked Katsumata with a chairshot and told everyone he will become a Double Crown Tag Team champion at Sumo Hall!

Yukio Sakaguchi and Shuichiro Katsumura kept targeting each other throughout Match #3. Katsumura used a Ninja Choke to roll Sakaguchi out of the ring while Hiroshi Yamato got the victory over Mizuki Watase. After the match Katsumura provoked Sakaguchi to get back into the ring. The two face off but Sakaguchi pulled back and the situation cooled down. Yamato said it was easy to team with Katsumura today because their goals for Sumo Hall next week overlap. Sakaguchi only said he will get his rematch with Katsumura in the Gauntlet Tag.

The first time team of Yukio Naya & Cody Hall got off to a good start. They got rid of Soma Takao with a Double Choke Slam then Naya pinned Mad Paulie with the Back Drop. They think they have started off strong but want to deliver an even bigger impact at the Gauntlet Tag in Sumo Hall next week.

A rule was added to the 10-Man Tag Match where a rugby ball was thrown into play. Instead of tagging in and out, whoever held the rugby ball would be the legal participant. What followed was all of the wrestlers attempting to play rugby in between fighting each other. Yuki Iino accidentally rugby tackled Danshoku Dieno which led to Makoto Oishi diving on top of Dieno to score a try and also the pinfall.

The pre-show match involved Keigo Nakamura getting his first official wrestling bout inside Korakuen Hall. He put forth a good effort against Nobuhiro Shimatani by getting a nearfall with a Moonsault and hitting some High Kicks. But Shimatani stopped Nakamura’s momentum with a Dropkick and pinned him with the Fisherman Buster.

6. Special Tag Match Right Before Ryogoku – Indie Jr. Champions! Defended 11 Times In Total: Keisuke Ishii & Shuichiro Katsumura defeated Ken Ohka & Isami Kodaka when Katsumura submitted Ohka with the Ninja Choke (29:50).

The main event came close to ending in a time limit draw. In the final minute Shuichiro Katsumura put Ken Ohka in the Ninja Choke while Keisuke Ishii got rid of Isami Kodaka with the Tiger Suplex. Ohka used a Vertical Drop Brainbuster to try and fight out of the choke but Katsumura held on and got the submission victory. Kodaka criticised Ohka for not lasting another 10 seconds to get the draw. But he was impressed by how strong Ishii & Katsumura are. He hopes to face them again even if his independent status makes it a little less possible. Ishii said he was surrounded by champions so he couldn’t lose today. He is now the best Independent World Jr. Heavyweight Champion of the bunch! Katsumura credited his drive to win back the title as the reason he won today. Ohka pointed out that he wrestled twice on the show.

For the Cosplay match Moeka Haruhi dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood, HARUKAZE was dressed as a Kyonshi vampire and Cherry was dressed as Haruhi, wearing her entire wrestling gear. The match finish had Haruhi climbing the corner to do the Diving Foot Stomp to HARUKAZE but Cherry snuck in and pinned HARUKAZE with the Spring Night Love before Haruhi could jump.

Shigehiro Irie offered to shake Shuhei Washida’s hand after their match. Washida slapped him across the face. An angry Irie kicked Washida away in response.

Kodaka got to reunite with Cherry at the end of the show. The two were part of Union Pro together from its launch to its closure. Their message is all wrestling is connected. You are alive with professional wrestling!
