Yusuke Okada Announces Retirement

November 22, 2024

It was announced by DDT today that Yusuke Okada will retire from pro wrestling tomorrow on 23rd November. Okada has been away from wrestling since February to remove a malignant tumour from his lower abdomen and undergo further cancer treatment. He is currently in remission but his physical condition has made it difficult for him to start wrestling again. After discussions with DDT, Okada made the decision to retire. He will be present at tomorrow’s DDT show in Korakuen Hall to address everyone about the situation.

Shunma Injured, KO-D Tag Titles Vacated

November 21, 2024

DDT have announced that Shunma Katsumata’s left knee injury was diagnosed as a torn ACL. He will be out of action for a while which means ShunMao have today relinquished the KO-D Tag Team Titles. Katsumata wanted to believe his injury was only minor and he would have been able to defend the titles with MAO this weekend because he feels fine. However his doctor says otherwise and he has to take time off to recover. He apologized to Tetsuya Endo & Yuya Koroku for getting the title match cancelled. Since his most recent match was against Endo, Katsumata would like to face him in a rematch when he returns. The news is even more frustrating because this is the second time in a row where ShunMao’s tag title reign is ending early because Katsumata got injured. They had to vacate the titles in Spring 2023 when Katsumata broke his foot.

With the KO-D Tag Titles match called off, this weekend’s Korakuen Hall show has a few changes to the card. The KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles match is now moved up to the main event. Yuki Ueno & To-y are taken out of their matches so The 37KAMIINA can team up for a 6-Man Tag against BURNING. Ueno is currently the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion after he in full gear attacked Kazuki Hirata outdoors during a cold snowy night this week. That also means Hirata now only has to fight against 6 wrestlers instead of 7 for his birthday match. Munetatsu Nakamura is brought in to take To-y’s place in the opener.

The winner of the Next Generation Tournament will get a title match of their choice as the prize. Miu Watanabe is currently waiting to see who will emerge as her 4th January Princess Of Princess Title opponent. 121000000 are also currently without any contenders for the Princess Tag Team Titles in Japan. The timing of the final taking place beneath an International Princess Title main event is notable too. It could be a big day for Toga or Haru Kazashiro to win the tournament final and then reappear at the end of the show to call out one of the champions.

The other six wrestlers who competed in the tournament will be taking part in a 6-Woman Tag Match.

Both Haruna Neko and Pom Harajuku debuted in November 2018 so they are celebrating their anniversaries together in the same match. Mahiro Kiryu is from the same class as them (HiSPC) but didn’t debut until February 2019. The other two members from that class were YUMI (retired) and Himawari Unagi (now known as Sayaka Unagi).

7. DDT Extreme Title – You’re Still A Cinderella As You Climb The Ladder To Adulthood Rules: Danshoku Dieno (c) Vs Yuni

The DDT Extreme Title match will periodically go into “Cinderella Time” where Danshoku Dieno will be instantly disqualified if he does any of his Danshoku moves on Yuni. When “Cinderella Time” is inactive, Dieno is allowed to wrestle like he normally does. The match must have a winner and cannot be called off as a No Contest.

The next SCHADENFREUDE International Vs DAMNATION T.A battle will now have the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles on the line.

The Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title is no longer part of the Dieno Vs Yuni match because Kazuki Hirata is now the latest champion. That means he will likely defend it in the 7-on-1 Handicap Match.

7. Special Tag Match: MAO & Yuki Ueno Vs Minoru Suzuki & Chris Brookes ended in a Time Limit Draw (30:00).

For MAO’s homecoming show he went to DDT management and requested a match against Minoru Suzuki. His reason was he wanted to show his hometown how much his style of pro wrestling has changed over the years. So DDT decided to put together MAO & Yuki Ueno against Suzuki & Chris Brookes. The match went ahead today and was made even more special when the mayor of Osaki City appointed MAO as a tourist ambassador for the area. MAO got to show his pro wrestling by attacking Suzuki with plastic boxes while Suzuki got into the swing of things by beating up Ueno and doing the tower pose spot with Brookes and Antonio Honda. The match lasted the full 30 minute time limit and in the final minute MAO escaped from the Gotch-Style Piledriver then hit Suzuki with the Iai Kick. The bell rang before MAO could pin him so the match ended in a draw. In a rare show of public respect, Suzuki hugged MAO after the match. He also called MAO & Ueno the best wrestlers in DDT and made it known he would like to wrestle them again. MAO said if today’s match took place in Tokyo he would have lost but because it was his hometown he had to do his absolute best. Nowadays MAO gets to wrestle around the world but he is glad he still has a home to come back to with friends he can trust. He also wants DDT to hold a show in Osaki City once every two years from now on.

Shunma Katsumata suffered a minor left knee injury during yesterday’s show and was pulled from today’s event. Akito took his place in Match #6 and Tomomitsu Matsunaga took Akito’s original spot in Match #4. Katsumata is expected to recover in time for next week’s KO-D Tag Team Titles match.

However several other wrestlers came out and argued one by one that they should get the title shot instead. Rather than have a Battle Royal to determine the No.1 Contender, Kamino came up with the idea of doing a one day tournament on 29th November. Kamino, Ryota Nakatsu, Takato Nakano, Takumi Tsukamoto, Isami Kodaka and FUMA are the six wrestlers taking part. Lil’ Kraken also wanted to get involved but everyone else rejected him.

*V3 for Shigehiro Irie & Mizuki Watase.
7. Emergency Decision ~ Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Title Next Challenger Decision Match: Yumehito Imanari defeated Shuichiro Katsumura with the Lou Thesz Press (8:04).

At the end of the show Keisuke Ishii was given the microphone to give out a closing speech. Yumehito Imanari interrupted him and challenged Ishii for the Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Title on 27th December. Shuichiro Katsumura then got involved because he wants to be the next contender instead of Imanari. Michiyoshi Mishima was put on the spot to make a decision and after listening to the calls from fans as well as all the wrestlers he booked an impromptu No. 1 Contender match to take place immediately!

Imanari dodged a Moonsault from Katsumura and pinned him with the Lou Thesz Press to win the match and get the next title shot. He thanked Katsumura after the match for his behind the scenes work with Ganbare☆Pro especially when he is surrounded by people like himself who make unreasonable demands. He loves Ishii but has been beaten down by him so many times. In order to prove everything he has built in GanPro he needs to beat Ishii and take the title from him! He also identified Ishii’s father in the audience. Ishii’s father is a fan of Imanari and always cheers for him. So even though they get along, Imanari warns him that he will win the championship from his son!

Ken Ohka missed another chance to get a big championship win in his own company. He came close to pinning Mizuki Watase with the Flame Spear but Watase kicked out at the 2.99 count. He also ended up getting injured by dislocating his elbow during the match. Then when Shuji Ishikawa was busy fighting Shigehiro Irie outside the ring, Watase took over and pinned Ohka after a big Headbutt. Watase said afterward that Ohka cannot shine without having Danshoku Dieno & Muscle Sakai there to back him up. He wants Ohka to continue leading GanPro but he also wishes Ohka would have more trust in the rest of the GanPro family. Meanwhile Irie is worried he won’t be defending the Spirit Of Ganbare World Tag Team Titles again for the rest of the year because nobody came out to challenge them. Watase wants to spread the word out that they will defend the titles against anybody no matter what kind of wrestling they represent.

Kouki Iwasaki received more than just a bouquet for his 10th Anniversary Match. Katsumura also gave him a gift of diapers to celebrate the recent birth of Iwasaki’s second child. Iwasaki thanked everyone involved in the match as well as GanPro’s fans and management. He’s going to work harder than ever for his family and will look forward to his 15th and 20th anniversaries. He also said backstage that simply wrestling in GanPro is meaningless so if he comes back here next year he wants to fight for the Spirit Of Ganbare Title.

The FREEDOMS rivalry between F-SWAG and Munetatsu Nakamura led to Yuya Susumu coming over today for a match with Nakamura. The reigning King Of FREEDOM World Junior Heavyweight Champion won the match and flaunted his belt in front of Katsumura afterwards. He also tried to shake Nakamura’s hand after the match but was rejected. Nakamura has made it his goal to win that title from Susumu whether it happens in GanPro or in FREEDOMS.

The feud between SCHADENFREUDE International Vs DAMNATION T.A is only going to raise more stakes from here on out. Today’s main event had its focus on Chris Brookes against Daisuke Sasaki and Takeshi Masada against Ilusion but it was Masahiro Takanashi who won the match for SCHADENFREUDE by pinning KANON out of nowhere. Afterwards Takanashi reminded everyone that he, Brookes & Masada will be facing Sasaki, KANON & MJ Paul at Korakuen Hall on 23rd November. Since that trio are also the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Champions, Takanashi challenged them to put the belts on the line in that match! Sasaki blamed today’s loss on the jetlag he got after travelling back from Seattle. He accepted the challenged and promised to tear SCHADENFREUDE apart.

The ShunMAO Vs BURNING singles matches ended in a 1-1 draw. MAO defeated Yuya Koroku while Tetsuya Endo beat Shunma Katsumata. Even though the results were mixed, ShunMao are still confident they will retain the KO-D Tag Team Titles against Endo & Koroku on 23rd November because there is no other team in DDT that can match them. Endo is motivating Koroku by calling him second to none. He is getting stronger and just needs that one chance to prove it. That chance will be at the KO-D Tag Title match.

The amount of time Jun Akiyama and Yukio Naya have had in the ring together lately now has a destination in sight. Naya challenged Akiyama to a singles match at “ULTIMATE PARTY 2024” on 28th December! He made the challenge now because he now has the belief he can beat Akiyama and rise to the top of DDT. Akiyama turned 55 years old last month and joked that this match will be Naya’s present for him.

There were several Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title changes throughout the day. Kazuma Sumi brought Yoshihiko into the ring at the start of the show and pinned the doll with a Standing Moonsault to win the title. Then is Sumi’s actual match on the show he lost the belt to Kazuki Hirata. When that match ended Yuki Ueno attacked Hirata near the entrance and won the belt from him. Hirata tried to ambush him backstage but Ueno fought him off. Then hours after the show ended Hirata held To-y hostage with a hammer and used him to sneak into Ueno’s dressing room with Yukinori Matsui nearby. Hirata knocked out both To-y and Ueno with the hammer and then pinned Ueno to be the champion again.

Two contract signings took place before the show. One was for the ShunMao Vs BURNING KO-D Tag Titles match where Koroku kept trying to pump himself up in front of the champions. The other signing was for the DDT Extreme Title match between Danshoku Dieno and Yuni. Dieno was in attendance but Yuni was absent due to a school event. Dieno agreed with DDT to have a normal pro wrestling match that will also use “Cinderella Time”. Whenever “Cinderella Time” is active during the match Dieno is prohibited from using his Danshoku moveset on Yuni and will be instantly disqualified if he breaks the rule. But when “Cinderella Time” ends Dieno is allowed to use those moves like he normally does.

8. Princess Of Princess Title: Miu Watanabe (c) defeated Zara Zakher with the Tear Drop (15:38).
*V5 for Miu Watanabe.

After losing to Zara Zakher twice this year, Miu Watanabe finally got to get a win back and under important circumstances. With this fifth successful Princess Of Princess Title defence, Watanabe now has the second most defences in a single reign behind Miyu Yamashita’s 10 win streak from 2018/2019. Zakher relied on the same game plan she used to beat Watanabe previously, using a backflip to avoid the champ’s attack and countering with the RKO. However this time Watanabe was able to block the Control Z, use a Double Hammer strike to fend off Zakher’s Lariats and countered a Jumping Knee Strike with a Power Slam. With Zakher’s offence nullified, Watanabe used the Laser Beam followed by the Tear Drop to win the match.

Watanabe told the fans how happy she was to defend the title in Osaka. She called Zakher a scary opponent for beating her twice before but it was also really fun to wrestle somebody as talented as her. Backstage she said she wants to get closer to Yamashita’s record for most title defences. She was asked by the interviewer if she has any thoughts about the 4th January Korakuen Hall show. Watanabe hasn’t thought about it yet because she was so focused on today. She is aware that anyone could come out to challenge her for the title on that show. Whoever it will be, she won’t turn them down. Zakher thought the atmosphere wrestling in Osaka was great and different from Tokyo. She promised to get more experience and come back to Tokyo Joshi Pro with the goal of winning one of the championships. Any of them will make her happy because she wants to win gold.

We’re not getting a two-time winner for the Next Generation Tournament because Wakana Uehara is out after the semi-finals! Haru Kazashiro scored the upset of the tournament by fighting out of the Banana Pillow submission and using the Fisherman Suplex to pin Uehara. Kazashiro admits she was worried because Uehara is the strongest of the 23 year old wrestlers in TJPW and Kazashiro is not very good at believing in herself. When she did win the match her head was feeling all over the place and took a moment before she realised the crowd were cheering for her victory. Uehara is upset she couldn’t make it to the final on 22nd November especially since she knows some of her fans already bought tickets to the show expecting to see her in that match.

Toga will be meeting Kazashiro in the final after she defeated Kira Summer. The combination of the Rolling Thunder and Rock Bottom gave Toga the victory. She feels vindicated because last year she was eliminated in the semi-finals in the same venue. She thought she would face Uehara in the final so it would be her chance to avenge last year’s defeat. However she didn’t expect to see Kazashiro beat Wakana. Toga is still motivated none the less. Shinjuku FACE is where her debut match was so she is excited to have the final be held there. Summer feel frustrated because everything she has done up to now was for this tournament but the difference in experience between her and her seniors is still wide. She knows she will get there eventually, she just doesn’t have the experience yet.

The Up Up Girls performed their brand new song “SEED” at the start of the show.
