6. Enter Sandman Match: MAO defeated Yuki Ueno, Brahman Sasaki, Takeshi Masada, Danshoku Dieno and Super Sasadango Machine when MAO pinned Sasadango with the Ultra Jam (19:32).

For the next two days DDT are holding their summer beer garden shows inside Shinjuku FACE for the last time before the venue shuts down for good next month. Day 1 ended with the annual Enter Sandman match where The Sandman’s much replicated entrance gets turned into an entire No Holds Barred free for all match. Chris Brookes did his homework and wore a Sandman style outfit. Daisuke Sasaki didn’t show up because of a chronic hangover but in his place was Brahman Sasaki. He unmasked Super Sasadango Machine then shoved him face first into Danshoku Dieno’s Hell Gate. MAO then grabbed a large bag of empty beer cans and jumped off the top rope to land a Guillotine Leg Drop onto Sasadango for the win.

MAO celebrated by calling himself the champion of idiots when Daichi Sato got into the ring. Sato isn’t old enough to drink yet and complained about having nothing fun to do at the show unlike all the adults. This will be his last summer vacation as a student so he wants to make a great memory out of it. MAO suggested they go to a theme park together but Sato instead challenged him for the KO-D Openweight Title so he can become the youngest champion ever! MAO accepted, explaining he’s been waiting for someone like Sato to come fight him. He remembers having a match with Sato four years ago when Sato was only 13 years old. He still remembers Sato kicking him hard and telling him to die. Ever since then MAO has been waiting for Sato to reach puberty so he could finally fight him as a man. Hisaya Imabayashi announced the title match will happen at Korakuen Hall on 30th August, one day after Sato’s 18th birthday.

MAO came into the show holding the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title along with the KO-D Title but lost the Iron Man belt to Shunma Katsumata during the opening segment. Katsumata was then pinned by Yuni while the match order announcement was going on. Another title change happened later when Kumadori beat Yuni to win a 6-Man Tag match. After that Kumadori challenged Katsumata for the DDT Extreme Title after he heard Katsumata say anyone could come challenge him. Kumadori doesn’t want to be a guest wrestler in DDT forever so he wants a title match. It was confirmed for 30th August but Katsumata then kicked Kumadori and pinned him with a Small Package to suddenly take the Iron Man Title off him! He now has a goal to cash in his Right To Challenge Gauntlet so he can win the KO-D title and become a Triple Crown champion!

Lovesickness prevented Antonio Honda from appearing at the show. A.YAZAWA took his place in the Rock ‘N’ Roll Death Match. Everyone in the match danced, drank and caused each other to all spit out their beer. In the end Junta Miyawaki did a Triple H spit with the beer and pinned YAZAWA with the Pedigree.

Yuki Ishida found himself in the Kazuki Hirata spot of immediately losing his match and having everybody angry at him for it. Earlier in the day Soma Takao announced he would be leaving DDT next month so everyone thought it was unfair for one of his last matches in the company would end in just 17 seconds. Everyone agreed to a restart and the match gradually turned from wrestling into everybody feeding each other cans of beer.

The dark match between Ilusion and Yoshihiko turned into a brawl around the venue before making its way back to the ring. Ilusion wanted to use a chair after a ref bump but ended up hitting himself with it when Yoshihiko dodged a swing and the chair bounced off the ropes back into Ilusion. Yoshihiko gave him the Infinity Destroyer before finishing him off with the Reincarnation, getting revenge for Ilusion eliminating him from the Battle Royal in Sumo Hall earlier this week.

Soma Takao To Leave DDT In September

August 13, 2026

Today at a press conference held at AbemaTowers in Shibuya it was announced that Soma Takao will be leaving DDT to become a freelancer at the end of next month. His final match as a DDT wrestler will be held at Shinjuku FACE on 27th September. He will also be stepping down as the manager of the Dropkick Bar around the same time he leaves DDT. Takao said that after turning 38 years old recently he decided it was time for him to do something new for a career while also doing the kind of pro wrestling he wants to do.

Both Sanshiro Takagi and Akito were at the press conference and gave their opinions on Takao’s decision to leave DDT. Akito said he debuted in the same year that Takao did so it is sad for him to see someone from his generation leaving the company. He accepts his decision and understands Takao has a desire to wrestle at his own pace whereas he would not get that sense of freedom all of the time staying in DDT. The company will continue to support Takao in his final months with them and they plan to continue booking him as a freelancer on a regular basis.

Takagi spoke about how Takao came to DDT. The company was going through a crucial period in 2009 with their first Sumo Hall show coming up and they were desperately looking for a new homegrown wrestler to debut there. Takao came to them from the student wrestling scene and made his debut a short time later. Takagi admitted he asked Takao to do some unreasonable things over the years but he was able to do each one of them and grow as a wrestler. He can’t help but express a little sadness at the news and promised to do whatever he can to help him.

To begin the final period of Takao’s DDT career, he will be part of a Smile Squash reunion match being held on 30th August. Takao will team up with HARASHIMA, Yasu Urano & Akito one more time for an 8-Man Tag Match. Takao was part of several units during his time in DDT including Team Dream Futures and DAMNATION but he has many happy memories with Smile Squash. Among his favorite highlights Takao said taking part in a “Young Wrestlers” tournament with the rest of his generation, getting to be in the ring with CIMA and winning the KO-D Tag Team Titles three times. The unit he felt most attached to was Team Drift because not only did they work hard in DDT but they all got to tour All Japan together too. As for the future, Takao has things he is thinking about doing but does not want to talk about them until they come to fruition.

————————————————————————

It will soon be time to say goodbye to Soma Takao. Maybe. He’s not retiring and if he does continue to get booked we’ll still hear from him likely at Ganbare☆Pro and Super Japan shows. This news has me feeling a little sentimental because Takao was one of the first young wrestlers from what is now known as the Young Communication Generation that cropped up around the same time I began this website. One of the earliest pieces of trivia I kept track of was Takao’s winning streak at “WRESTLE PETER PAN” because he won his debut on the first edition in 2009 and went unbeaten there until 2022! I don’t even think DDT realised that because how much fun would it be to do a WrestleMania winning streak parody with a mid card wrestler who loses the rest of the year?

To be honest when DDT put out the tease yesterday that Takao would have some news, I was expecting a retirement. He just came back from injury and hadn’t kept it secret he was slowing down and feeling pretty banged up. Instead he still has some mileage left. I can see him teaming up with Shota some more so ROMANCE DAWN will continue. Otherwise like I said above, places like GanPro and Super Japan would be good fits for where he shows up in the near future.

DDT “LAST SUMMER STANDING ~SUMMER’S REVIEW~”, 30/08/2026
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. KO-D Tag Team Titles: Shinya Aoki & Junta Miyawaki (c) Vs Jun Akiyama & Rukiya
2. DDT Universal Title: Ryusuke Taguchi (c) Vs Daisuke Sasaki

The DDT Universal Title now belongs to a New Japan wrestler. Ryusuke Taguchi is now the champion and his performance drew out Daisuke Sasaki to challenge him for the belt. Sasaki remembers losing to Taguchi at the Best Of The Super Jr. way back in 2012. That memory of Taguchi being so strong has stayed with Sasaki and that is the version of Taguchi he wants to fight again.

Rukiya is expected to be ready in time to fight for the KO-D Tag Team Titles at the end of the month. He better be because this was his idea in the first place. Shinya Aoki might be risking his RIZIN fight next month for this! Junta Miyawaki will also get reminded of his home in NOAH by stepping across the ring from Jun Akiyama once more.

Kumadori will be on the show.
