UJPW Becomes Incorporated

January 20, 2025

Last July members of the United Japan Pro Wrestling association had met to discuss what their next movements should be with the concept. It was decided that UJPW would go from a voluntary organization to an incorporated group. After going quiet for the rest of the year, representatives from all of the member promotions gathered today to announce that UJPW went through with the plan and has now become incorporated as a non-profit organization. With this move UJPW aims to strengthen its governance in Japan’s pro wrestling scene, become more transparent with its management and improve wrestling’s social credibility. They also came up with a slogan: “Pro Wrestling will always be a driving force for the people of Japan.”

The move gives UJPW greater legal options with the example the Japanese press have given being to open up accounts and hold business assets under the corporate name. Sanshiro Takagi has taken on the role as the Representative Director even though the UJPW office will be located inside New Japan’s HQ. Takagi along with the other directors on the board will all serve two year terms. They were all chosen based on the number of voting rights they have in their respective companies. The board of directors will meet twice a year within the fiscal calendar.

Takagi said it is possible for more UJPW events to be held in the future but it is not the goal of the organization and there are no plans to run another event like “ALL TOGETHER” at this time. However there could still be more interactions coming between the promotions. For example, Hiroshi Tanahashi said he would like to appear in the other companies as part of his year long road to retirement.

There are currently ten members of UJPW. They are New Japan, All Japan, NOAH, DDT, Ganbare☆Pro, Big Japan, Dragongate, Stardom, Tokyo Joshi Pro & Kyushu Pro. Seven requirements have been laid out for future members to meet if they would like to join UJPW. They include needing a regular event schedule, being a legally recognized company, having at least one wrestler under a full time contract, having an annual revenue of over 50 million yen, been active for at least two years, have a corporate compliance system and want to improve the wrestling scene even when competing against other members. There will also in the future be a lower tier created place for supporting members to join that involve less demanding requirements. When I posted about these plans last July I mentioned DIANA had representatives at the meeting in an observing capacity. There has been no mention of them being involved since then but I imagine they can end up becoming one such example of a supporting member.

Wrestlers and staff from each of the member promotions were in attendance to give speeches about the news. I’m just going to focus on the companies I usually cover (although I’d like to point out that Takaaki Kidani put his foot in his mouth again). Takagi wants UJPW to also cooperate with as many of the different indies across Japan as possible. Michiyoshi Mishima said GanPro is the smallest member of the group but thinks they can set an example for other promotions of the same size. Chris Brookes spoke about wrestling being something that can unite people. Utami Hayashishita Miyu Yamashita talked about the respect that wrestling fans around the world has for Japan. Haru Kazashiro said she loved wrestling ever since she joined TJPW and wants to see more children drawn to the industry if UJPW can establish the safety and medical standards needed. Ken Ohka believes this attempt at bringing pro wrestling together will take the industry to new heights. Yuna Manase is happy to be able to exchange ideas with wrestlers from other companies that will bring more happiness to the fans.

7. “Futari wa Princess” Max Heart Tournament – Semi-Final: Yuki Kamifuku & Wakana Uehara Vs Max The Impaler & Pom Harajuku

Four teams remain and after next weekend they will be down to two. Yuki Kamifuku & Wakana Uehara are bonding together with a “Ayase Town Hills New Hills” style and had a much easier time in the 2nd Round than they did in the 1st. The difficulty level for them has ramped way back up because their next opponents are Pompaler. The tactic of Max The Impaler throwing Pom Harajuku at the nearest opponent hasn’t been beat yet in the tournament so far. Kyoraku Kyomei are one step away from reaching the final for a second time. However Shoko Nakajima & Hyper Misao know full well not to let their guards down now, especially after HIMAWARI & Shino Suzuki scored a little bit of an upset to reach this far.

It didn’t take long for the newcomer Mifu Ashida to be thrown into the ring with Mizuki. The champ needs some fresh meat.

6. DDT Universal Title: Gringo Loco (c) Vs Yuki Ueno
7. KO-D Openweight Title: Chris Brookes (c) Vs Shuji Ishikawa

Chris Brookes has figured out he cannot become stronger than Shuji Ishikawa, but he can become more handsome than his challenger. He has been taking care of his face by wearing face masks every day until the show takes place. He also promised to win the match so Ishikawa will not sing karaoke in Korakuen Hall again.

Only a one count will be needed to win the DDT Extreme Title match. Danshoku Dieno came up with the idea because he wants to see Gorgeous Matsuno fight with all of his might. The most important thing in life is the next second in front of you. A person’s experience does not matter if they don’t make the most of that second.

7. New Year’s Six Great Singles Match: Takeshi Masada defeated Yuki Iino with an Inside Cradle (8:48).
8. New Year’s Six Great Singles Match: Chris Brookes Vs To-y ended in a Time Limit Draw (10:00).

The Fan Appreciation show was built around six singles matches pitting veterans against some of the young entrants in the upcoming D GENERATIONS CUP tournament. The matches only had a ten minute time limit and it ended up with two of the matches going to a draw. The main event was one of those matches with To-y lasting long enough not to be beaten by Chris Brookes. However Brookes told him after the match it will be Takeshi Masada who will win the tournament and face Brookes for the KO-D Openweight Title, not To-y (Masada scored the only upset win today by beating Yuki Iino). In a burst of emotion To-y called Brookes selfish and promised when he wins the tournament he will challenge Brookes and kill him for the title!

The other time limit draw came from Yuya Koroku fighting the far more experienced Jun Akiyama. In the final minute of the match he kicked out of both the Exploder Suplex and an exposed Running Knee Strike. Akiyama smiled at Koroku after the match and praised him for his efforts.

Akito suggested to make Yukio Naya the official substitute for Kazuki Hirata because they love the same anime shows (Steins;Gate, Re:Zero and Attack On Titan). He quickly regretted the idea when Naya immediately won the match instead of losing like Hirata does. They restarted the match and this time Naya behaved more like Hirata does. He wore the ring announcer’s glasses for the dance spot and also used the Miracle One Shot Cradle to get the win. Akito came to the conclusion that it’s just not the same without Hirata around and he hopes he comes back soon. Everyone then suddenly heard Hirata’s voice telling them they finally realised how important he is!

Hirata’s music played and he came down to the ring on crutches to give everyone an announcement. He will be recovered in time for him to hold a special show celebrating the 15th Anniversary of his debut in March at Shinjuku FACE! He later explained his injury was first diagnosed as a torn ACL. He then got a second opinion at a bigger hospital, was told his ACL was fine and he would be able to wrestle again once the swelling goes away. He reckons he will be back in action at the end of February. He was never able to celebrate his 10th Anniversary because of the pandemic so this 15th Anniversary show will let him do what he couldn’t do five years ago.

*V1 for The 37KAMIINA.
6. Special Tag Match: Shuji Ishikawa & Jun Akiyama defeated Chris Brookes & Takeshi Masada when Ishikawa pinned Masada with the Splash Mountain (18:45).
-. Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title: Tetsu Inada defeated Poison Sawada JULIE by Pinfall (7:41 pm).
*Tetsu Inada becomes the 1,708th champion.

Shuji Ishikawa appreciated getting help from Jun Akiyama to beat SCHADENFREUDE International in the main event. Antonio Honda actually distracted the referee so Chris Brookes could attack Ishikawa with a chairshot to the head. However Ishikawa hit back with a Headbutt to Brookes while the chair was still wrapped around his neck. He then went on to pin Takeshi Masada with the Splash Mountain. As much as Ishikawa would like to celebrate the win with some karaoke, he told the fans he will wait until he wins the KO-D Openweight Title on 26th January. Honda motivated Brookes by telling him he can overcome anything, just like how Honda overcame his lovesickness today to make to the venue in time to try and help him.

When MAO recently used AI to predict how a match between himself and Kazuma Sumi would turn out, it said he would win using a mystery move called the Ultra Big Tone. Today MAO figured out what that move is and he successfully used it on Sumi to defend the KO-D Tag Team Titles! The Ultra Big Tone starts off as a Lifting Reverse DDT and flips over into a Sitout Facebuster. This is all done from jumping off the second rope too. He praised Sumi & Yuni for being tough challengers while being so young. He heard the ultimate goal for NωA Jr. is to someday perform as idols at the Tokyo Dome. He will cheer them on to reach that goal because the previous NωA never could. While they go do that, he will try his best to bring DDT back to Budokan Hall! Meanwhile To-y said the match gave him a taste of what to expect from the D GENERATIONS CUP. He will chew up the competition there before going back to defending the KO-D Tag Titles again.

As mentioned earlier, Honda was dealing with a bout of lovesickness throughout the day that delayed him from making the show until the main event. His scheduled match with Yuki Ueno had to change into something else. Ueno was now put into a Rock ‘N’ Roll Death Match against his new opponent A.YAZAWA! The two wrestlers danced along to music while fighting and Ueno unexpectedly powered himself up by putting on a pair of Hirata GO! glasses! With these glasses he quickly learned how to do the Miracle One Shot Cradle and he used the move to beat YAZAWA.

Keigo Nakamura really wanted to test himself against Yuya Koroku even when his tag partner Shinya Aoki had Koroku beaten with the Full Nelson Hold. Nakamura called out to him and demanded to be tagged in. Aoki recluctantly agreed. That idea almost backfired when Koroku put Nakamura in the Chickenwing Arm Lock. But Nakamura was able to counter it with a Crucifix Pin to get the three count. Aoki admitted to Nakamura he thought they were going to lose the match after he tagged in Nakamura and he was only able to win by a fluke. Nakamura argued he didn’t make any mistake because they ended up winning instead.

Hirata was certainly missed by the wrestlers today. His absence due to injury made some of them so sad that Hisaya Imabayashi decided to turn one of the matches into a tribute for him. Match #2 was turned into a Bunkhouse Scramble Death Match with a pair of Hirata GO! glasses placed in the middle of the ring for everyone to fight over. However everybody fought while ignoring the glasses which made the GM angry. Soma Takao eventually picked up the glasses but used them to stab Danshoku Dieno in the backside. Soma didn’t want to wear them at that point so he decided instead to give Yuki Ishida the Perfect Driver onto them to win.

After beating DAMNATION T.A in the opening bout, HARASHIMA said backstage he would like to challenge them for the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles. He’ll need to find two wrestlers to team with first, which shouldn’t be difficult for him.

The show ended with an unexpected appearance from Poison Sawada JULIE. He came to the venue today annoyed that nobody has come to challenge him for the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title. His annoyance only grew backstage when several DDT wrestlers declined to fight him because they were busy with other things so Sawada went out to ringside at the end of the show. Sanshiro Takagi and Imabayashi both confronted him but he fought them off using his Snake Magic. Then suddenly the voice actor Tetsu Inada pulled out a mirror and deflected the magic back at Sawada, knocking him out into a petrified state. Inada then pinned Sanada to win the Iron Man Title and Imabayashi ushered him away from ringside. Inada told reporters backstage it was always his dream as a child to become a pro wrestler and win a cool looking championship. He understands the terrifying threat that comes with this title and called out for any voice actors? to come challenge him should they ever see him in the studio!

Before the show began, Dieno held a public contract signing for the DDT Extreme Title match against Gorgeous Matsuno on 26th January. Matsuno was not present for the signing but the two had already agreed to the stipulation. It will be a Life’s Sparkle Match where only a 1 Count Pinfall is needed to win.

Every block match has a 15 minute time limit. The final will have no time limit. Wins are worth 2 points, losses are worth 0 points and most kind of draws are worth 1 point. Any match that ends in a Double Countout or a No Contest will result in both wrestlers getting 0 points. Head-to-head results will be used as a tiebreaker but if that does not work then a sudden death playoff will go ahead.

Kamino wants to settle the score in one match so he asked BASARA to bring them back together as a tag team for him to fight. Kamino also decided he won’t team with Takato Nakano because they will soon fight each other for the Union MAX Title. Instead, Ryota Nakatsu will be Kamino’s partner for this match.

It’s Royal Rumble season so add BASARA to the growing list of companies that are doing their own version of the match this year.

DDT “NEW YEAR, NEW HERO. 2025 ~A NEW STORY BEGINS~”, 26/01/2025
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. DDT Extreme Title: Danshoku Dieno (c) Vs Gorgeous Matsuno
2. DDT Universal Title: Gringo Loco (c) Vs Yuki Ueno
3. KO-D Openweight Title: Chris Brookes (c) Vs Shuji Ishikawa

According to both DDT and Gringo Loco he has defended the DDT Universal Title twice in North America. One was in Canada for Demand Lucha and I cannot for the life of me find where or when the second one took place. For his third defence he is nominating Yuki Ueno because he stands out the most to Loco. It will be Loco’s first time defending the title in Japan.

Danshoku Dieno made the decision to defend the DDT Extreme Title against Gorgeous Matsuno because he does not know if they will ever get another chance to do the match. Matsuno is still known to the public for a public divorce he went through in the 1990s where he was accused by his wife at the time of abuse. The divorce was finalised but it was also ruled by the court that there was no evidence to support the accusation. Dieno only knows Matsuno through his wrestling career and feels the need to have a heart to heart match while he still holds the Extreme Title. Dieno also wants a contract signed that says no one will be responsible for anything that happens in the ring during the match.
