A press conference was held earlier today featuring the participants of the two title matches. Konosuke Takeshita announced he is returning to America in October so his goal for Sunday is to win the KO-D Openweight Title and bring it with him to AEW. He does not believe Kazusada Higuchi’s claim that a new wind is blowing through DDT. Higuchi disagrees and thinks the KO-D Title has already taken a new form that will not change back if Takeshita wins it off him and takes it abroad. Win or lose, this is the match Higuchi has been looking for.

Nobody was able to get a word out of Cara Noir during the press conference. Even Yuki Ueno tried to make him speak by asking him questions in English but Noir stayed silent throughout. However his physical gestures made it clear he wants to beat Ueno and become the new DDT Universal Champion. Ueno hopes that if he can successfully defend the title it will open the door to him having a title defence in the United Kingdom. He also wants to defend the belt in Thailand to live up to a promise that Masahiro Takanashi made when he was the champion.

The full line-up of this year’s D-Ou Grand Prix tournament will be revealed during the show.

The first skirmish between Shuji Ishikawa and HARASHIMA in the lead up to “OSAKA OCTOPUS 2016” ended in Ishikawa’s favour. He and Daisuke Sasaki got rid of HARASHIMA and overwhelmed Yasu Urano to come out victorious in the main event. Ishikawa tried to be polite and respectful on the microphone but Sasaki Dropkicked him. He then yelled at Ishikawa not to act like a babyface.

Days away from their KO-D Tag Team Titles match, Shuten-dōji got an early victory over DAMNATION when KUDO & Yukio Sakaguchi defeated Tetsuya Endo & Mad Paulie. Both KUDO and Sakaguchi were fascinated by wrestling Mad Paulie. Sakaguchi said it was tiring to fight him because he is so big and heavy. He thinks that means fighting Daisuke Sasaki in the title match will be easier because he is smaller and lighter.

Yoshihiro Takayama & Kazusada Higuchi gave Kuishinbo Kamen a Double Choke Slam. Antonio Honda checked on Kamen afterwards and said he didn’t have a pulse. He needed help quick! Both Takayama and Higuchi carried Kamen away from the ring to get medical aid, abandoning their partner Guanchulo in the process. That gave Honda and Konosuke Takeshita an easy path to victory. It turns out Kamen was faking it to distract Takayama and Higuchi.

Saki Akai and Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi came out for there match dressed in Halloween costumes. Akai was a witch and Hiroshi was the Statue Of Liberty. Unfortunately for Akai she was pinned by Danshoku Dino. Not a good start for her in their build towards the DDT Extreme Title match next month. Dino asked her if she wants to continue her struggle. Akai said she does. Dino stomped on her and said the “Wrestling Mentalist” will treat her ailing heart. After he left Hiroshi tried to cheer Akai up by singing. LiLiCo came out and Dropkicked Hiroshi out of the way. LiLiCo came here just to tell Akai that she and Aja Kong will kill her at “OSAKA OCTOPUS 2016”.

Videos were aired throughout the show about Sanshiro Takagi trying to contact Hyota Echizenya. Takagi wants the entertainer to produce the opening video for “OSAKA OCTOPUS 2016” but he had no idea how to get in touch with him. Searching his name in Google brought up a trivia fact from 2004 that Echizenya is often seen cycling around Shinjuku. That’s odd, DDT’s office is in Shinjuku but Takagi has never seen Mr. Echizenya cycling in the area. The videos showed Takagi looking around completely unaware of the times Mr. Echizenya passes him by until he finally recognises him in the middle of a crosswalk. Takagi was able to recognise him because Mr. Echizenya’s long coat had a full size kotatsu table attached to it. Takagi tried to convince him to come to the show but he was scared off when the traffic lights changed and traffic came towards them. Back at the show Mr. Echizenya appeared at ringside but Takagi again scared him off. Takagi caught him backstage and successfully convinced him to produce the video.

DNA rookie Yuki Ueno announced he will wrestle in his home prefecture of Osaka for the first time at “OSAKA OCTOPUS 2016”. Another new trainee will also make his debut at the show. Naomi Yoshimura is 21 years old and from Hirano City, Osaka. He as a background in judo.

Shigehiro Irie greeted the audience at the beginning of the show. He gave the same speech from Korakuen Hall last weekend about his time spent wrestling in America and his return to the DDT ring on 4th December.

Sasadango Ill, Kawamura Injured, Shin Ganbare Created

My best wishes go out to Super Sasadango Machine for a healthy recovery. He was taken off last Sunday’s Korakuen Hall show with poor health as the reason. A few days later DDT announced that a check up in a hospital found out he is suffering from a mild heart disease. His physician said rest is necessary and he will not be able to wrestle again until further notice. Some of the card changes as the result of this can be seen below.

The folks at Ganbare☆Wrestling had some time to relax after their successful Korakuen Hall debut but now a familiar threat has returned in new clothing. Osamu Namiguchi suddenly announced this week he is creating his own pro wrestling group called Shin Ganbare☆Wrestling (シン・ガンバレ☆プロレス)! The use of Shin (シン) in this name does not mean “new”, it means “thin” as in “Thin Godzilla” from the new kaiju movie. Namiguchi thinks Ganpuro is fake like Hollywood’s Godzilla but Shin Ganpuro will be pure just like “Thin Godzilla”. Shin Ganpuro’s debut will take place on 12th November in Tokyo BASEMENT MON☆STAR at the same time as the normal Ganpuro’s scheduled show. It will only consist of one match and Namiguchi challenged Ken Ohka & Yumehito Imanari to a tag team match. Namiguchi has a mystery partner for the occasion. Ohka accepted and the match will also technically be the main event of the normal Ganpuro show.

The group stage of Heaven Summit ~Itadaki~ are now over and there are two clear block winners. Isami Kodaka and Hiroshi Fukuda will face each other in the final on 23rd June. Kodaka beat Ryota Nakatsu and Fukuda beat FUMA, both matches determined who would have won the blocks. Ryuichi Sekine was also in the running but he suffered an upset defeat to Yusuke Kubo.

Masamune called Kodaka into the ring after Match #3. He asked Kodaka if he was available on 14th August? Masamune will be running a show in Osaka that day and he wants to team with Kodaka to take on Billiken Kid & HUB! With the audience supporting the idea, Kodaka accepted.

Takumi Tsukamoto and SAGAT seem to have bonded after their hardcore match. After the bout Tsukamoto asked SAGAT to say his real feelings instead of having Hiroshi Fukuda speak on his behalf. SAGAT just screamed and grunted into the microphone. Tsukamoto said that was nothing to worry about and shook SAGAT’s hand after. SAGAT was a lot calmer in his post-match interview. He said that while he is still with Fukuda under the team name Hiroshi du Soleil, he is open to change and a possible team with Tsukamoto in the future.

Atsushi Maruyama arrived late to the show, appearing at ringside when it began. He and Ryu Gouma did their in-ring warm ups during the show introductions. Gouma wanted revenge on Koji Iwamoto for damaging his statute book on last Friday’s show. Gouma tried to use his book as a weapon but Kyohei Wada blocked him. That allowed Iwamoto to hit the Aloof Art and get the win for his team.

8. Road To RYOGOKU Special Tag Match: KUDO & Yukio Sakaguchi defeated HARASHIMA & Yasu Urano when KUDO pinned Urano with the Diving Double Knee Drop (15:23).
9. Road To DAIICHI Special Tag Match: Akito & Konosuke Takeshita defeated Shigehiro Irie & Kazusada Higuchi when Takeshita pinned Higuchi with the German Suplex (28:29).

Konosuke Takeshita won in impressive fashion by German Suplexing Kazusada Higuchi in the main event. Higuchi had Takeshita in the Canadian Backbreaker but Akito cut him off with a Dropkick. Takeshita cut down Higuchi with a Lariat before deadlifting him into the German Suplex.

The situation between Shuten-dōji seems to be improving a little bit. KUDO & Yukio Sakaguchi shared a drink when they defeated Smile Squash in the semi-main event.

Kota Ibushi got to experience what it is like in Kuishinbo Kamen and Kikutaro’s world. He beat the both of them immediately and all three congratulated each other until an unsatisfied Yukinori Matsui told them to restart the match. At one point Ibushi noticed someone was standing behind him and thinking it was one of his opponents he did a low blow mule kick. The person turned out to be Matsui. Kikutaro removed his mask and threw it to Ibushi, claiming that he was illegally unmasked. Matsui said he didn’t notice anything different about Kikutaro and allowed the match to continue. Ibushi put on Kikutaro’s mask and did some of Kikutaro’s comedy spots with Kamen. He then knocked out both Kamen and Kikutaro with punches and pinned them with a Diving Body Press from the top rope.

Super Sasadango Machine held another PowerPoint presentation for his match with Atsushi Maruyama. Sasadango figured out the three elements that make up his opponent. Maruyama is fierce like a wild tiger, drinks one litre of vinegar a day to stay healthy and wears a mask on weekdays. Sasadango wondered if Maruyama was Tigers Mask. He then brought out the IMGP World Title. The International Muscle Grand Prix was the governing body that promoted the old MUSCLE brand and Tigers Mask was the last champion before the title disappeared. Sasadango then announced he and Maruyama will fight over the vacated championship. Sasadango’s plan was to make Maruyama cry, use a diaper to absorb his tears and then wear the diaper to make himself heavier and in the process boost the power of the Vertical Drop Lehmann Shock. When the match began both men were quickly gassed. They decided to fight outside the ring Big Japan style to cover up their lack of fitness. As they did so they noticed a woman in the first row and discovered it was Shigehiro Irie’s mother. She gave a heartfelt message of support for her son which made Maruyama cry. Irie came out and said his mother was the most important woman in the world to him. He talked about the first time she brought him to Delfin Arena to watch wrestling and they hugged. Now Sasadango was crying. Maruyama took advantage and kicked Sasadango in the head to win the IMGP Title.

Dick Togo left a video message promoting New Vietnam Pro Wrestling.

Kazuhiko Ogasawara sent a letter to Union explaining he has taken Ryu Gouma under his wing. He calls Gouma an idiot who people laugh at but if he learns Karate he could beat people that are 7 and even 8 feet tall! The letter ends with Ogasawara saying the time has come for Karate-gun’s revival! Karate-gun was Union’s first enemy faction when the brand was re-established in 2005. The infamous feud featured Ogasawara fighting Poison Sawada in a Scorpion Death Match and later a Toxic Barbed Wired Board Death Match. I don’t think the same will happen here with Gouma.

With all of the Right To Challenge contracts now used up, the main event of this year’s Sumo Hall show is set in stone. KUDO will defend the KO-D Openweight Title against his Shuten-dōji stable-mate Yukio Sakaguchi. They will be teaming together until then and there has been little to no tension between the two until the match was made. There is also more at stake than just the championship. ¥ 2,000,000 will be rewarded to the winner of the main event courtesy of the match’s sponsor Good Com Asset, a real estate corporation. The Extreme Title Match also has a sponsor, the manga series Uchikami!

Hiroshi Tanahashi apologised to those who were expecting Shinsuke Nakamura to be New Japan’s representative at “RYOGOKU PETER PAN” this year.

Hyper Misao takes the injured Erin’s place in the Tokyo Princess Cup. Misao will once again be against KANNA. She believes KANNA has it in her heart to be a hero and her alliance with Saki Akai is only a temporary act of rebellion.

Miyu Yamashita visited the Caesar Gym in Shibuya today to take part in a public shoot boxing practice session held by former UWF competitor Makoto Oe. Yamashita recently took up shoot boxing to become stronger after her defeat to Saki Akai in May. Oe thinks shoot boxing is an interesting direction for a pro wrestler to take and points to another joshi wrestler Syuri as someone who has been a champion in both sports at the same time. He invited Yamashita to take part in the “SHOOT BOXING GIRLS S-CUP 2015 ～FIGHTING WOMAN ASPIRATIONS～” show taking place in Ota Ward Gymnasium this August.

DDT’s big Osaka show this winter will be in the main arena in the Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium. DDT usually runs the second smaller room but this will be their first in the main one. The main event will be a KO-D Title match with the winner of this year’s upcoming DDT Dramatic General Election being the challenger.
