*Yuna Manase fails in V1. MICHIKO becomes the 3rd Kitsune World Champion!
5. Tatsuhito Takaiwa, Shigehiro Irie & Takuya Wada defeated Hartley Jackson, Kouki Iwasaki & Rekka when Wada pinned Rekka with the Assault Point (17:54).
6. Special Single Match: Dick Togo defeated Shuichiro Katsumura with a Jackknife Pin (16:44).
7. Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Title: Yumehito Imanari defeated Keisuke Ishii (c) with the Lariat (18:13).
*Keisuke Ishii fails in V5. Yumehito Imanari becomes the 8th Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Champion!

For the third year in a row a new Spirit Of Ganbare World Champion has been crowned at the promotion’s final show of the year! Keisuke Ishii had carried the title from the start of Ganbare☆Pro’s independence but today it finally ended by the hands of Yumehito Imanari. Or arms to be exact because Imanari kept hitting Lariat after Lariat until Ishii could no longer fight back. Eventually Imanari hit the move enough times to pin the champion and win the belt. Imanari couldn’t help but cry tears of joy and be thankful for what happened after such a challenging year for the company. GanPro will keep working hard on the road to their Korakuen Hall show celebrating their 12th anniversary on 11th April next year. Backstage Imanari named Yasu Urano as someone he wants to defend the title against. He wants to get revenge for Urano beating him with a Headlock back in 2017.

Dick Togo wasn’t here to pal around with anyone. When his match with Shuichiro Katsumura began he gave him the middle finger instead of a handshake. This wasn’t the House Of Torture version of Togo though. He and Katsumura gave everyone a wrestling match that went back and forth. Katsumura thought he got the upper hand when he rolled on top of a Crossface to pin Togo for a nearfall. But Togo kicked out, went on the counter attack and pinned his opponent with a Jackknife Pin. Katsumura was feeling both frustration and happiness after the match because he wrestled someone he looks up to. He didn’t win but he did feel like he returned to his route today. His goal now is to become the kind of wrestler young fighters will want to challenge. He also accepts that he can’t reach the same level of the main event anymore but he can be happy being a semi-main event wrestler from now on.

Yuna Manase had a grand vision in mind for her Kitsune World Title reign but sadly MICHIKO stopped it before it could even get off the ground. Manase ran in for a Lariat only to get knocked off her feet with an Elbow Strike. MICHIKO then dropped her with the Tombstone Piledriver to become the new champion. But before MICHIKO could leave the ring to celebrate, YuuRI approached her and signaled to everyone that she wants a title shot. MICHIKO told reporters that this is her first ever singles championship and she is happy to win it for GLEAT. She already knows Ganbare☆Joshi and Kitsune will be co-promoting a show in Shin-Kiba 1st RING on 13th January. She wants Manase to know they can have a rematch with or without the title sometime but she’s not sure if she will be available on that date yet. The result gave Manase bad memories because she also lost the International Princess Title in Tokyo Joshi Pro on her first defence. She promises to get the Kitsune Title back and won’t be happy if YuuRI wins it first!

Both Mizuki Watase and Shinichiro Tominaga greeted the fans at the start of the show. The two of them are currently out of action with the same injury but at opposite ends of recovery. Tominaga is almost healed from his ruptured Achilles tendon and will have his return match on 13th January. Watase only just recently suffered the same injury but according to his doctor he is recovering four times faster than a patient normally would.

2. Spirit Of Ganbare World Tag Team Titles: Shuichiro Katsumura & Takuya Wada (c) Vs Shigehiro Irie & Mizuki Watase

A successful RENEGADES reunion over the weekend is going to continue. When GROUND ABSOLUTE asked if there was any team better than them out there, Shigehiro Irie & Mizuki Watase answered the challenge. They don’t get to team up as often as they used to but after reaching the final of a tag tournament in Germany last September, RENEGADES believe they have what it takes to become champions together. They don’t want to waste this opportunity to win the Spirit Of Ganbare World Tag Team Titles.

The winner of the Battle Royal will get a Spirit Of Ganbare World Title shot on 15th July.

It’s been confirmed by Ganbare☆Pro that Shinichiro Tominaga suffered an injury during Saturday’s show. He ruptured his left Achilles tendon during his match and will be out of action for a while.

4. Yumehito Imanari defeated Tyson Maeguchi with a Power Bomb (7:07).
5. Spirit Of Ganbare World Tag Team Titles: Shuichiro Katsumura & Takuya Wada (c) defeated Shinichiro Tominaga & Daisuke®️ when Katsumura submitted Tominaga with the Triple Three 3 Lock (9:32).
*V6 for GROUND ABSOLUTE.
6. Kitsune World Title: Sayaka Unagi (c) defeated YuuRI with the Dai Gi Deatta (12:19).
*V2 for Sayaka Unagi.
7. Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Title: Keisuke Ishii (c) defeated Kouki Iwasaki with a Jumping High Kick (18:24).
*V1 for Keisuke Ishii.

One defence in and Keisuke Ishii is already feeling the pain of being a champion. Kouki Iwasaki was such a tough challenge for him to overcome that he did not want to name the next challenger for the Spirit Of Ganbare World Title afterwards. That caused a line of wrestlers to enter the ring one by one, each making the case for a title shot. Yuna Manase, Ken Ohka, Choun-Shiryu, Baliyan Akki, Daisuke®️ and even Gabai Ji-chan were all there. A decision was made to have a Battle Royal on 2nd June to determine the No. 1 Contender. Ishii considers Akki as the favorite to win but admits the winner could be anyone.

Yesterday Sayaka Unagi got to wrestle Arisa Nakajima in Shin-Kiba 1st RING. It made her realize that in pro wrestling you can never know when the end will come. Under that logic her match with YuuRI today in the same venue could be the last time they ever face each other. There was also a heavy atmosphere in the venue because of an injury that happened in the match before it (more on that later). Unagi praised YuuRI for getting the crowd back into the show with their match and it proves she has grown as a pro wrestler. Unagi used to have multiple championships but now she only has the Kitsune World Title so she wants to keep it no matter what. YuuRI called the match a good experience and she learned there are wrestlers she cannot beat even when she gives it her all. She is devoting all of her free time to wrestling and wants to beat Unagi some day.

Apparently Shinichiro Tominaga got injured during the Spirit Of Ganbare Tag Team Titles match and went to hospital afterwards to get checked up on. That is according to Shuichiro Katsumura’s post-match comments. Tominaga was there for the entire match and dropped the fall by submitting to Katsumura. Daisuke®️ had moments to shine by himself and landed a No Touch Topé con Hilo onto Tominaga & Takuya Wada out of the ring. After the match GROUND ABSOLUTE asked if there was any team out there stronger than they are? Shigehiro Irie & Mizuki Watase entered the ring and stared down the champions.

Due to a bunch of different circumstances Ken Ohka had to wrestle in the first three matches of the show. He beat the rookie Shota Kawakami in Kawakami’s debut match, took a Double Brainbuster from Hartley Jackson & Manase in Match #2 and was pinned by Watase with a Double Stomp in Match #3.

Kawakami had a goal for his debut match. He wanted to put up a good enough fight that Ohka would need to use the Flame Spear to beat him. That did not happen, Ohka instead tapped him out with a Crab Hold. Kawakami still hopes he can get to that point in the future and told fans to keep an eye on him. Ohka said Kawakami should instead put his focus on winning but praised the rookie for showing more passion than anyone else in the world.

Shu Sakurai appeared during the show with some important announcements. He has gotten married this year and the happy couple are expecting their first child! For the time being Sakurai has decided to fully leave Ganbare☆Pro but that does not mean he has retired from pro wrestling.

There is an update on Munetatsu Nakamura. He has been cleared by his doctor to resume training and is planning to return depending on GanPro’s decision.

1. Queen Of Asia Title & VPW Women’s Title: Yuki Kamifuku (c/c) Vs Alexis Lee

All of a sudden Yuki Kamifuku has created an Asian Double Crown championship! She has held the Queen Of Asia Title since last November and just a few days ago won the brand new VPW Women’s Title in Vietnam. Both of those title wins came from Kamifuku defeating Alexis Lee, a 10 year veteran of the Southeast Asian wrestling scene. Her name has come up a lot in my DDT Around The World reports because she is the go-to opponent for whenever somebody from Tokyo Joshi Pro travels to Singapore. Lee has not given up on getting revenge for losing both championships to Kamifuku and is coming to TJPW for a double title rematch!

Wakana Uehara will not be at the show because she will be performing at a stage show elsewhere that day.

Also something to note is BASARA themselves aren’t quite sure where Judomaster belongs to. His affiliation is written as “Free?” on their website.

2. Kitsune World Title: Sayaka Unagi (c) Vs YuuRI
3. Spirit Of Ganbare World Tag Team Titles: Shuichiro Katsumura & Takuya Wada (c) Vs Shinichiro Tominaga & CWP X
4. Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Title: Keisuke Ishii (c) Vs Kouki Iwasaki

The new Spirit Of Ganbare Champion wasted no time in picking his first challenger. Keisuke Ishii thinks Kouki Iwasaki is a suitable opponent to defend the title against first. The two are good friends and are certain to bring the best out of each other for the championship.

Shuichiro Katsumura is down one championship but still holds the Spirit Of Ganbare Tag Team Titles with Takuya Wada. Now that might be under threat with Shinichiro Tominaga demanding a title shot. The only problem is when Tominaga went looking for a tag partner he found nobody in Ganbare☆Pro wanting to team with him. He is now searching deep into the student pro wrestling scene and promised to find somebody in CWP who will agree to join him in the fight against GROUND ABSOLUTE.

A championship from America is going to be defended in GanPro for the first time because YuuRI wants to break into the international scene. She thinks the quickest way to do that is to win the Kitsune World Title from Sayaka Unagi. The Kitsune promotion is still young but Unagi has brought their title belt everywhere with her ever since she won it, making sure plenty of people see it. She doesn’t think YuuRI will be as dedicated as she is should she win the title off her.

Please welcome GanPro’s first rookie under their new management system, Shota Kawakami! He was born in Ichikawa, Chiba on 21st July, 2001. He is 177cm tall and weighs 80kg. His sports background is in baseball up until middle school and then tennis in high school.

5. Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Title: Keisuke Ishii defeated Shuichiro Katsumura (c) with the Locomotion High Angle Double Arm DDT (19:59).
*Shuichiro Katsumura fails in V3. Keisuke Ishii becomes the 7th Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Champion!

A new chapter begins with a new champion! Keisuke Ishii is now the leading man for Ganbare☆Pro after he defeated Shuichiro Katsumura for the Spirit Of Ganbare Title. He was able to counter the Triple Three 3 Lock into a cradle to get Katsumura to let go of the hold. Ishii then hit the High Angle Double Arm DDT three times in a row to secure the title change. He wanted to speak after the match but Shinichiro Tominaga quickly grabbed the microphone off him. Tominaga said he wants to win the SOG Title and Ishii is a worthy champion. But it is a wrestler’s golden rule to take down their rival when they are weak. So that means Tominaga wants a shot at… the Spirit Of Ganbare Tag Team Titles!

He noticed Katsumura was still recovering from the main event so he called out his tag team partner Takuya Wada, who he had defeated earlier in the show. Wada blamed Banny Oikawa for the result (she was the referee for their match) and asked Tominaga who is partner will be? Tominaga quietly admitted he asked everyone in the GanPro locker room but nobody stepped forward to accept his offer. However he still has friends in the student pro wrestling scene particularly in CWP who will do whatever he asks. Also today is Tominaga’s birthday so Wada cannot deny his wish. GROUND ABSOLUTE will accept his challenge and the match will take place on 18th May.

After that was all sorted out the new champion Ishii finally got to speak. He said today was the perfect moment for him to win the title and he feels lucky it went that way. GanPro is now under a new system which means he too is under a new system. Under this new system he will become the ace of GanPro! After the show had finished, Ishii announced to reporters that his first defence will be against Kouki Iwasaki on 18th May. Iwasaki had given him encouragement before today’s main event and he is also the kind of tough challenge Ishii wants to face.

Ken Ohka is feeling good despite losing his first GanPro match under the new management. He said GanPro will face a lot of hardships but it is something the group all built together. It does not need a parent company and will overcome any trouble that can get in their way. His attitude along with Yumehito Imanari has spread over to Tatsuhito Takaiwa and Fuminori Abe. Both of them admitted they did their best today because they got motivated from watching Ohka and Imanari.

There were a few changes to the undercard because Munetatsu Nakamura became unwell during the week and could not wrestle today. PSYCHO was added to Match #3. The match result was YuuRI pinning HARUKAZE and afterward she challenged Sayaka Unagi for the Kitsune World Title! YuuRI explained she wants to take GanPro worldwide and she can take a shortcut by winning Unagi’s championship from America. Unagi said she cannot see YuuRI going worldwide like she does but she wants to beat her in GanPro along with other people. She accepted the challenge and will assess YuuRI for the title on 18th May.

As already mentioned, Banny Oikawa was the referee for the Tominaga Vs Wada match. She almost became a target of some intentional crossfire moments which is why Wada blamed her for losing the match. However Tominaga did in fact beat him clean.

Rekka was moved to Match #1 as the replacement for Nakamura.

Moeka Haruhi announced she will return to wrestling and her first match back is happening on 15th July. She has been out of action since last summer after taking part in a kidney transplant operation for her sister. She said she may be small but she fights to leave a big impact with people. She hopes her return will move people’s hearts in a big way.

A new trainee was introduced to everyone. Shota Kawakami is a childhood friend of Munetatsu Nakamura and he will make his debut on 18th May. He said he wants to do his best to become the ace of pro wrestling inside a fiercely competitive ring.

At the start of the show Imanari revealed that he kept in contact with Shinjiro Otani during GanPro’s transition to their new system. Otani was originally an on-site manager for the promotion before his injury. He told Imanari he has no intention of giving up the role despite being unable to attend shows in his current condition. So it’s now publicly confirmed that Otani is continuing his role and Imanari will work as passionately as he does!

5. Spirit Of Ganbare World Tag Team Titles: Shuichiro Katsumura & Takuya Wada (c) defeated Shota & Soma Takao when Katsumura submitted Shota with the Triple Three 3 Lock (18:46).
*V5 for GROUND ABSOLUTE.

As the days count down towards Ganbare☆Pro’s next chapter, Shuichiro Katsumura remains the champion to beat in the promotion. He and Takuya Wada retained the Spirit Of Ganbare Tag Team Titles for the fifth time by beating ROMANCE DAWN today. The champions were in danger at points, particularly when Shota got pins after hitting the Frog Splash and Gannosuke Clutch but both were broken up. Katsumura got his hands on Shota at the end and used the Triple Three 3 Lock to bend and twist the poor guy into submission. Katsumura admitted to feeling mixed emotions afterwards because this could be the last time he fights ROMANCE DAWN. Plus he doesn’t feel like GROUND ABSOLUTE beat them as a team even though they won. Shota disagreed and told Katsumura he should be proud his team won. He encouraged him to lead GanPro as their double champion and their paths will cross again some day. Soma Takao will be going back to DDT soon but he told Shota to call him whenever he wants the two of them to team up again.

Shiori Asahi got to wrestle in GanPro for the first time in around 7 years. He reunited with Makoto Oishi for a K-DOJO flavored tag match against Keisuke Ishii & Shinichiro Tominaga. When the match was over Asahi talked about the days when Tominaga was a K-DOJO trainee. He also said he wants AsahiOishi to show up again when GanPro emerges in their new independent form. Also something to note is Oishi injured his neck during the match from a botched Moonsault. He was able to finish the match and joked about it on the microphone afterwards because he’s made mistakes like that for years. However DDT later announced he won’t be on their show tomorrow so he can rest and recover.

A couple of wrestlers made announcements on the show. Munetatsu Nakamura has graduated from university and brought along his diploma to show off to everyone. Ken Ohka asked if he was going to look for a job straight away. Nakamura told him he will work for GanPro! Ohka promised to make him a big enough star that he’ll get to make a living just from being a pro wrestler.

Banny Oikawa announced she will be running a show at Ice Ribbon’s dojo in Warabi on 1st May to celebrate her 5th anniversary in wrestling. It will be a collaboration with GanPro including full involvement from their roster.

So let’s get this straight. Yuka Sakazaki graduated from TJPW in December, hasn’t wrestled a match anywhere else since for whatever reason and is now going to make a special appearance to compete at “GRAND PRINCESS ’24”? Yeah, beats me what’s going on or what she will do there. Mizuki wants to team with her again and is scared over the idea it won’t happen. Sakazaki helped train Juria Nagano so she can say goodbye to her there. What if Sakazaki wants to get in the ring with Masha Slamovich again? Or maybe she wants to fight Andreza Giant Panda while she still has the chance.

6. Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Title: Shuichiro Katsumura (c) defeated Takuya Wada with the Ninja Choke (14:09).
*V2 for Shuichiro Katsumura.

It’s full steam ahead as all the pieces for Ganbare☆Pro preparations to move into independent life continue falling into place. The championship scene currently belongs to Shuichiro Katsumura. He remains as GanPro’s double champion after he successfully defended the Spirit Of Ganbare Title against his tag team partner Takuya Wada. He told the fans afterwards he’s been friends with Wada for almost 30 years but haven’t gotten to fight him much. Today’s result proves that nobody is stronger than himself but if there’s anybody stronger than Wada then they should step forward. Soma Takao entered the ring but it wasn’t to challenge for the SOG Title. He invited Shota to enter beside him because ROMANCE DAWN want to fight GROUND ABSOLUTE for the Spirit Of Ganbare Tag Team Titles! Shota will be leaving GanPro to go freelance soon and Takao doesn’t know how often ROMANCE DAWN will get to team up here again in the future. In fact that may mean ROMANCE DAWN will soon become GanPro’s enemy. If they win the SOG Tag Titles then that means they can bring the belts wherever Shota decides to go next. GROUND ABSOLUTE accepted the challenge for 20th March.

A fully recovered Yuna Manase returned to the ring for her first match in around 13 months. She arrived in a new costume to team with Yumehito Imanari against Sayaka Unagi & Minoru Fujita. The opposing team carried their collection of championship belts with them to the ring. Unagi approached Manase to hug her but it was a trap and she bit her breast instead. That wasn’t the first time she did that. Manase fought back with Imanari at her side. She gave Fujita a Power Bomb and also kicked out of the SAYONARA Tombstone. Manase was at her limit throwing Elbow Strikes at Fujita but he wasn’t effected by them. Fujita then used the Modified Samson Clutch to roll her up for the three count. He congratulated Manase for her successful return and called her the symbol of GanPro. He then tried to pin Unagi for the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title as they were leaving the ring but she kicked out and chased him out of the room. Two title changes back and forth did happen between them backstage after the show. Manase said she was happy how her return match went but she does not want the story to end with her losing. She asked Imanari to help her so they can beat Fujita & Unagi together.

A Camel Clutch version of the Katahajime ended Yoshiko Hasegawa’s hopes of winning the EVE International Title. After the match Yuu thanked Hasegawa for gathering together a big crowd on a big stage for them to wrestle at. Yuu hates it when she hears wrestlers talk about their growth but she thinks Hasegawa is passionate beyond words. Since Hasegawa is becoming a freelancer that means she is going to be Yuu’s rival from now on! Yuu will win more championships for Hasegawa to challenge her for and whenever Hasegawa becomes a champion, Yuu will come looking to be her first opponent.

The show began with Shinichiro Tominaga and HARUKAZE speaking to the fans. Tominaga became a full time member of GanPro this month but has been wrestling for the promotion since its beginning. He spent the last 11 years waiting for Ken Ohka to ask him to join the company. It wasn’t until GanPro started planning its split from CyberFight that he finally asked him! Tominaga said he thought about it for only 2 minutes before he accepted the offer. His moral of the story is if you have something to say to somebody important to you, let them know right away. HARUKAZE talked about Yokohama being her hometown and how her parents’ house is only a 10 minute drive away from the venue.

Ganbare☆Pro Is Going Independent

January 31, 2024

A press conference was held in Tokyo today announcing Ganbare☆Pro will be leaving CyberFight at the end of March 2024 to become its own independent wrestling company. Attending the conference were members of CyberFight staff and GanPro wrestlers to give more information along with other updates related to the news. CyberFight president Sanshiro Takagi said he had spoken with Ken Ohka about GanPro’s future after the promotion celebrated its 10th anniversary last year. The two came to an agreement that the best way for GanPro to grow bigger is to go independent. Ohka said he has been wrestling under Takagi’s management for 20 years now and he has gotten his big breaks because of him. Over the last 10 years Ohka made many new friends through GanPro and he decided going independent will allow the promotion to reach out to even more people. He feels under debt to Takagi and believes the best way to repay him will be to make GanPro successful enough to surpass DDT. Ohka’s goal for GanPro from the very beginning was to turn pro wrestling into a major sport where pro wrestlers can become more famous than other pro atheletes. That goal has not changed.

GanPro currently has shows scheduled up to up until July. Their final event under CyberFight will be on 28th March. Up until now GanPro were able to book important venues like Korakuen Hall and Ota Ward Gymnasium because of CyberFight’s management and resources. Normally Korakuen Hall does not do business with clients unless they are a registered company. GanPro intends to relaunch itself as its own company when they leave CyberFight and their current representative Michiyoshi Mishima will be positioned as the company’s director. Ohka will also become a company board member in the future. They are on track to be fully registered by early March and will update everyone as soon as details are finalized.

According to Takagi the relationship between DDT and GanPro will not change. It will be similar to the current relationship between DDT and BASARA, which is another independent promotion that originally begun as a DDT sub-brand before spinning off into independence. That should mean wrestlers from one side will be able to have matches on the other side when requested. The two companies may also continue sharing venues to run back to back shows on the same day or weekend. Takagi would like GanPro content to remain on Wrestle Universe but we will have to wait on an announcement in the future for more details. Nothing has been confirmed yet about the future of Ganbare☆Joshi but Ohka is thinking of continuing the brand on a irregular basis. The two Spirit Of Ganbare Championships belonging to GanPro will remain as they are.

The champion Shuichiro Katsumura said he was happy and grateful to work under CyberFight. They handled all of the office work so Katsumura could wrestle every month and perform in venues as large as Super Saitama Arena. By going independent Katsumura understands it will be up to GanPro to handle their own behind the scenes work from now on. He has a lot of anxiety over that but hopes all of the wrestlers can work together to get rid of those worries, enjoy the hardships and create a bright kind of pro wrestling. As the current Spirit Of Ganbare World Champion and also a senior figure on the roster, Katsumura thinks he has to be a leader for the locker room from now on.

Several changes to the roster is coming because of this news. Both Shinichiro Tominaga and Yumehito Imanari have signed on to become fully affiliated with GanPro along with their home promotions starting on 1st Feburary. Tominaga has wrestled on GanPro shows all this time as a representative of the amateur indie group Come On Wrestling Party, or CWP for short. He sent in a message saying Ohka approached him a short while ago asking if he would like to join GanPro. Tominaga felt like he would not belong here but agreed to the offer. He now feels a stronger sense of belonging to GanPro than ever before and he promises to do his best to develop the company. Imanari’s new agreement is to remain in GanPro while also representing the Ibushi Pro Wrestling Institute. He left his video staff role with CyberFight last September but remained as a GanPro wrestler ever since. He has close friendships with both Ohka and Kota Ibushi so feels obligated to take care of both of them.

Unfortunately Shota, Yoshiko Hasegawa and Riara have all decided to end their contracts with GanPro and become freelancers at the end of March. Shota feels he is at his best as a wrestler right now and is entering a new period of his life where he gets to be a bit selfish. Hasegawa sent in a message saying she is using her last matches in GanPro to reevaluate the current wrestling enviornment before thinking what to do next. It was not an easy decision for her to make but her time in GanPro is irreplaceable for her. Riara describes her decision to leave as a graduation and she is thankful for her friends im GanPro that she’s been able to train and wrestle often in her daily life. She wants to make the most of what precious time she has left in the promotion. Then she will challenge herself even more in the future. Ohka said the people who come to GanPro do so in order to become who they want to be so he sees this as wrestlers graduating from GanPro instead of quitting. It is possible that GanPro will still book them again in the future but Ohka wants to prioritise taking care of those who stay with the company.

The GanPro roster when it goes independent currently looks like this. The fully affiliated wrestlers are Ken Ohka, Shuichiro Katsumura, Yumehito Imanari (along with the Ibushi Institute), Keisuke Ishii, Shinichiro Tominaga (along with CWP), Mizuki Watase, Munetatsu Nakamura, HARUKAZE, Yuna Manase, YuuRI and Shu Sakurai. The wrestlers from outside GanPro who are confirmed to continue making regular appearances with the group are Takuya Wada, Tyson Maeguchi, Moeka Haruhi and Banny Oikawa.

———————————————————————–

I woke up to this bombshell of a news story this morning and I still don’t know what to make of it. There is so much to unravel I don’t know where to start. GanPro is doing what BASARA did in 2019 and that’s leaving CyberFight to go strike it out on their own. I don’t think that was a good move back then and I worry this will not be a good move either. This kind of follows the recent trend of pro wrestlers in Japan leaving their home companies on the indies because being a freelancer is more financially viable for them. Look at the current state of the Japanese wrestling scene and ask yourself is there really room out there for another self-sufficient company right now? What I need to find out is if this is really Ohka and friends having big aspirations that made leaving CyberFight a necessity or if business decisions had to be given by other people higher up the pecking order. If this is a sign of things to come then we could be in for another whopper of a news story by the time we get past March.

As a fan, the concern I have comes from the above BASARA comparison. It is not an easy task finding BASARA coverage compared to most of the other indies. I struggle finding things in BASARA to write about outside of the match results. If GanPro loses that stuff because the website reports were all on DDT’s end then that will annoy me greatly. However if GanPro remains on Wrestle Universe then it will not be much of a problem. They have an audience there and I don’t think it would be worth losing them for another streaming service that could have a smaller reach. Whatever the new website is just keep updating it often so I can have an excuse to keep following it. This has been a really fun little promotion to write about from its very beginning and they provide connections to companies that DDT and Tokyo Joshi Pro do not.

What will happen to the three people leaving seems to be all over the place. Shota’s reasoning makes the most sense because his profile is the highest it’s been for a while and he can find bookings anywhere. What Hasegawa will get up to is much harder to guess. Taking a step back to look at the big picture before deciding where to go sounds like a good idea but it’s also a vague enough excuse to cover up if she already knows where she is going next. I would like to see her in TJPW more but she is appearing in Ice Ribbon a little more often lately. But YuuRI wrestles there all the time and she is still committed to GanPro so Hasegawa would not need to leave if that was her landing point. Riara at first sounds to me like she’s leaving pro wrestling entirely but she says otherwise so I’d like to be wrong on that. Hook her up with Sumire Natsu and let them team up in the 666’s and P.P.P. Tokyo’s of the world.
