7. Special Tag Match: MAO & Shunma Katsumata defeated Yukio Naya & Yuki Ishida when MAO pinned Ishida after the Our Mad Max (19:56).

The show was missing Yuki Ueno due to illness and Kazusada Higuchi due to injury so MAO took it as an opportunity to take the reigns of DDT in their absence. He and Shunma Katsumata wanted to do their best and since Ueno was missing, MAO became bold and said he will definitely beat him for the KO-D Openweight Title at Sumo Hall on 21st July! He also congratulated Yuki Ishida for moving to Osaka and is confident he will become a success here with his sumo endeavors.

The long awaited team-up of Sanshiro Takagi & CIMA lasted five seconds. In a reverse of what usually happens, Kazuki Hirata immediately rolled up Takagi for the three count. Takagi accepted defeat, leaving CIMA confused. It’s been over three years since CIMA was last in DDT and the Takagi that he knows would not take this lying down. He demanded a rematch this time under Captain’s Fall Rules. The other side agreed and the match restarted with CIMA and Hirata as the captains. Danshoku Dieno with the help of Makoto Oishi set up the Hell Gate but CIMA avoided that terrible fate. Instead Takagi gave Hirata the Stunner and stabbed Dieno with the Kancho while CIMA pinned Hirata with the Somato.

Takagi said he was happy for the chance to team with CIMA before going on his break. CIMA suggested that DDT and GLEAT do another joint show in the near future, this time in Osaka. As he went to leave the ring he noticed Keigo Nakamura was holding the ropes down for him while wearing the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title. CIMA acted nice towards him but it was only so he could roll him up in the ring and win the Iron Man Title from him! Backstage Takagi warned CIMA the belt is on the line 24 hours and he won’t be able to get any sleep because of it. He was proven right because Tsutenkakka then tried to attack CIMA in a failed attempt to win the belt.

Both Chris Brookes & Takeshi Masada tried hiding in the audience during Tetsuya Endo & Yuya Koroku’s entrance but their opponents caught them anyway. Endo then insulted Masada for not having any friends but apparently he did have some in the audience.

After HARASHIMA’s match both To-y & Katsumata entered the ring. To-y told HARASHIMA that The 37KAMIINA wants a shot at the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles and Katsumata was going to be one of his partners. HARASHIMA pointed out that Smile Squash are already scheduled to defend the belts against DAMNATION T.A at Sumo Hall on 21st July. But if To-y wants the match then he will talk to Akito & Yasu Urano about it. However he noticed that To-y & Katsumata need another partner. The two muttered to each other and announced they know who the other member of their team will be. Except they refused to tell anyone who it is. Yukinori Matsui got mad at them for keeping it a secret and told them the challenge was not official yet.

TJPW’s big match for the summer is Daydream tearing each other apart for the Princess Of Princess Title! A match like this was always on the horizon and Rika Tatsumi thinks the time is now for it to happen. She wants to be the Princess Champion again even if it means having to take the belt from Miu Watanabe. That scenario happened before last year with the International Princess Title. Watanabe does not want history to repeat itself.

There’s been a couple of times already this year when Shoko Nakajima has been in the ring with Aja Kong. Now they get to fight each other one on one! It is a match both are looking forward too. Nakajima wants to have a wrestling career as long and illustrious as Kong’s, maybe even turn into the modern day equivalent of her. Kong meanwhile is isolating herself in the mountains in order to train for this match. That is how much she sees Nakajima as a threat to her.

Earlier today Chris Brookes was one of several DDT wrestlers who were part of El Desperado’s invitational show (I’ll write a post about the show this evening). Brookes got on the microphone after his match to talk to Desperado who was at the commentary booth. He said they’ve known each other for years now but have never been in a match together. So he challenged him to a match at DDT’s Sumo Hall show next month!

7. The 37KAMIINA Vs DAMNATION T.A!: Yuki Ueno & Shunma Katsumata defeated Daisuke Sasaki & KANON when Katsumata pinned KANON with a Jackknife Pin (18:56).

The three champion members of The 37KAMIINA were all winners on today’s show. The main event had the KO-D Openweight Champion and DDT Extreme Champion defeat DAMNATION T.A together. Earlier on the show MAO defeated Akito in a match where the DDT Universal Champion could put on a strong display.

After the main event Daisuke Sasaki admits his group has fallen to the bottom and it may take a while for them to climb back up from there. But just because they lost today’s tag match does not mean they will lose any singles bouts from now on. Yuki Ueno noticed KANON is looking bigger and stronger than the last time he saw him but he looks a little more depressed too. He wonders if it’s because Sasaki & KANON lost the KO-D Tag Team Titles recently? Even if they aren’t they still wouldn’t have beaten Ueno & Shunma Katsumata today based on their team strength. That’s according to Ueno of course.

The Tag Titles now belong to BURNING but there is still a lot that Tetsuya Endo & Yuki Iino need to work on. Iino accidentally hit his partner with a Lariat during the match and was then scouted for the Spear when HARASHIMA countered the move with a mid-air Double Knee Drop landing on top of him. Endo was able to recover and pin Takeshi Masada, resulting in a close call for the champions. Endo told Iino that not everything will fall into place whenever the Spear hits its target. But he is confident they can iron out all of the misfires and perfect their teamwork in time for their title defence against New Period on 17th March.

Chris Brookes came up with a new way to fight against Kazuki Hirata’s dance moves. Just go over to the soundbooth and shut off the music! It is only a matter of time until that plan stops working though and Tsutenkakka held Brookes back outside the ring so Hirata could power up and dance again. That didn’t matter though because Hideki Okatani pinned him with the Quetzalcoatl anyway.

The latest medical woes in the DDT locker room comes from Yusuke Okada. Just like what happened to Chris Brookes last month, Okada discovered he has a tumour in his lower abdomen and will need surgery to remove it. He will be out of action for a while. Toru Owashi is replacing him on tomorrow’s show.

Contract signings for some of the upcoming title matches will be held in the ring before the show begins. Signings will take place for the the DDT Universal Title match happening on Sunday and the KO-D Openweight Title match and DDT Extreme Title match both happening on 28th January.

She debuted around the same time Riara did last year so they should be seen on a similar level reputation wise. However in the time going from debut up to now Tanaka has wrestled in at least double the amount of matches that Riara has so she still has an experience advantage over her. Tanaka herself has yet to win a singles match too from what I could find about her.

He has made sporadic appearances around DDT a bunch of times through the years. Jack Kennedy is an American who has been with Yanagase Pro Wrestling since 2020. He’s been getting attention in the news this week for his debut acting role as an American soldier in the NHK historical drama “Boogie Woogie”.

Yuki Ueno scores first blood against Yukio Naya as they begin building up their KO-D Openweight Title clash at the end of the month. The unity between The 37KAMIINA along with a few goofy ideas along the way was the difference maker. They used a large rubber band to slingshot a gym ball at Hideki Okatani before Ueno pinned him with the Jul.2 for the victory. Ueno held the title belt up for Naya to see after the match. He said the matches they are having this weekend are important and he won’t lose to Naya just because Naya is big and strong.

DAMNATION T.A attacked Tetsuya Endo during his match against Takeshi Masada. Endo had Masada in the Let’s Combine submission hold when Daisuke Sasaki & KANON ran into the ring for the ambush. Yuki Iino came to the rescue and got rid of DAMNATION T.A, allowing the match to continue. Endo was already in a bad state when Sasaki gave him the Pedigree but he kicked out of Masada’s pin and cradled him with the Forest Bridge to survive with the win. Endo was angry at Sasaki’s selfish actions ruining the match. Sasaki threatened even more ambushes to come because he knows which hotel and restaurant Endo will be staying at this weekend!

D.O.A defeated Bodyguard’s team to successfully defend both the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles as well as the Dead Or Alive name. However that is not the end of the unit’s trouble over that branding. After the match Kazusada Higuchi confronted them and read out a letter given to him by Hikaru Sato. The letter said “Dead Or Alive” has been a motto used on Sato’s T-shirts for a long time and he cannot let anyone else use it. So Higuchi, Sato & Ryo Kawamura are challenging D.O.A on 28th January for both the naming rights as well as the KO-D 6-Man Tag Titles.

It’s been a long time since Yoshitatsu & Yusuke Okada teamed up together. Just don’t mention the name Yoshitatsu Kingdom to Okada. He asked Yoshitatsu not to bring that thing up again.

Yukinori Matsui announced he will be producing a show in Osaka City Sumiyoshi Civic Center on 19th May to celebrate his 30th Anniversary in wrestling.

The KO-D Openweight Champion has hit a rocky patch in his D-Oh Grand Prix block. Yuki Ueno’s next match after his time limit draw did not go the way he wanted it to. Tetsuya Endo beat him after a back and forth battle, catching Ueno with a roll up. There was an exchange of signature moves from the two and when Ueno got the upper hand and ran the ropes, Endo caught him in a Headlock Takeover and hooked the leg to pin him for the victory. Endo is keeping the move in his arsenal, naming it the Forest Bridge. He said there is not much time left in 2023 but when he comes back to Osaka in January he will do so as the D-Oh winner! Ueno knows a title match against Endo might be on the cards in the future because of this result. But if Endo does challenge him in the future, he’s never going to give the KO-D Title over to him.

Joining Endo in first place is Kazusada Higuchi after the big man defeated HARASHIMA. He caught the Somato and turned it into a Power Bomb. However HARASHIMA was able to hit the move after another try to cause a double down situation. Higuchi got the advantage from that point and pinned HARASHIMA with the Brain Claw Slam. Higuchi said he can’t take a second to relax in his matches but he still persevered. HARASHIMA praised Higuchi for always being a great opponent to fight.

B Block is still alive with a big upset. KANON not only beat Yukio Naya but sapped the life out of him to win by TKO! The way KANON fought was enough to take Naya down to an even level where they were both close to getting counted out via Double Knockout. But at the 8 count they got back up and kept fighting. When KANON got to put Naya in the Cobra Twist he squeezed as hard as he could. Naya ended up losing conciousness and the match had to be stopped. Backstage Naya admitted he underestimated KANON but there is now a debt between them that will be repayed some day. This result might end up blowing B Block wide open right when it looked like Naya had it all locked up.

Well, the only one who doesn’t have a chance in B Block now is Kazuki Hirata. He continues to be at zero points with another loss. Today’s result was already over before the match even begun because Rei Saito carried a beaten up Hirata down to the ring during the entrances. When asked what happened, Saito said Hirata attacked him backstage so he just returned the favour. Hirata was checked on and he was still breathing so the match went ahead. Saito thought he would get an easy win but Hirata refused to lose. He then distracted Saito by giving him fried rice to eat and then tried attacking him from behind. That only made Saito mad because he hates it when people get in the way of his meal. He got the last laugh by putting on the Hirata GO! glasses and then crushing Hirata with the Diving Body Press, all while music was playing. He wonders if what happened was really pro wrestling but a win is a win.

The big match outside of the Grand Prix bouts was Eruption against BURNING with the All Asia Tag Team Titles at stake. What was planned to be Yusuke Okada teaming with Yuya Koroku was changed to a team with Jun Akiyama instead due to Koroku being injured. Eruption had just come back from wrestling in All Japan for a month as part of the Real World Tag League. A big development in that tournament for Hideki Okatani in particular was him adopting Saki Akai’s finisher the Quetzalcoatl as his own match winning move. He used it here to pin Okada and defend the titles.

After the match Toy Kojima entered the ring. He congratulated Eruption for winning and then announced today is his 24th birthday! To celebrate it he challenged Eruption to a title match and his tag partner is going to be Atsushi Onita! His challenge was turned down by Yukio Sakaguchi who said while Kojima has spent the last three weeks in the sauna, Eruption were busy fighting heavyweight tag teams in AJPW. Kojima wouldn’t give up and figured he just needed to promise something passionate for Eruption to convince them. Okatani was interested and told Kojima to come up with whatever match he wants because Eruption will beat them no matter what. Kojima decided the match can also be a Current Blast Death Match! The idea has been sent to the PWF committee and DDT will have to hear back from them for the date and location of the match if it gets approved.

Rukiya was absent from the show over being in poor health so he was replaced with Tsutenkakka as Yuki Iino’s tag partner. During the match itself Daisuke Sasaki attacked Iino with a chair. He then grabbed Iino’s tights and tried to pull them down! Iino lost his temper and attacked Sasaki. When the referee stepped in to stop him, Iino then attacked the ref causing himself to get disqualified.

Before the opening match took place Kazuma Sumi told Akito he is scared of the Wasabi Lip Lock that Danshoku Dieno now uses. Akito explained that Dieno hates the move too but promised to stop Makoto Oishi from feeding Dieno with the wasabi. The plan did not work and the Lip Lock happened when Oishi squeezed the wasabi into Dieno’s mouth. He then gave Dieno a Stunner that bounced him lips first into Sumi. After that Oishi used the Death Penalty Inverted DDT on Sumi for the win.

Tsutenkakka volunteered to be one of the members of the team. The other will be whoever from Osaka that Bodyguard thinks has enough guts to take on the challenge.

Several of the participants in the D-Oh Grand Prix faced off in a 6-Man Tag main event. Yuki Ueno got the win for his team, pinning Kazuki Hirata to become the new Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion in the process. That didn’t last long because after his victory speech MAO rolled him up to win the title and then he lost it to The Great Koji. But more on that later. The wrestlers in the main event all gave their comments for the upcoming tournament after the show. Ueno said what happened to him today is a reminder not to make any stupid mistakes. His goal is to win the D-Oh so he can nominate Konosuke Takeshita as his next challenger. Kazusada Higuchi is taking part not only as a representative of Harimao but also as one half of the IRON FIST Tag Team Champions in BASARA so he is tightening up his game. Yukio Naya wants to make up for last year’s disappointment of finishing as the runner up. His first opponent is Chris Brookes and Naya is confident he will beat him. Brookes said he won the King Of DDT and KO-D Openweight Title this year so he is going to win the D-Oh and make it a “Perfect Three”. Tetsuya Endo said four of the wrestlers in the main event are champions but he isn’t one of them. He not only wants to become a champion again, he also wants to see how much of an impression he can leave on fans. Last but not least, Kazuki Hirata announced he is now graduating from the main event scene! He’s tired of it and it’s starting to dawn on him just how difficult the D-Oh is going to be. He still wants to win it though no matter how dramatic it will get.

MAO found himself a tricky first challenger for the DDT Universal Title but he figured him out by the end. Demus mixed together some lucha submissions with a few dirty tactics and his Kinniku Buster finisher, La Valagueza. However MAO kicked out of it and when Demus used the referee as a shield, MAO leapt over him to catch Demus with a Stunner. MAO eventually hit the Cannonball 450 to win and keep the title. He praised Demus for being an interesting opponent the likes of which he never fought before. MAO wants this title reign to show fans different worlds of pro wrestling. He has not decided on his next challenger yet. Instead his focus is on the D-Oh. Demus, using Daisuke Sasaki as his interpreter, said MAO’s style of Lucha Libre is the Tohoku style while his own lucha is world class. He thinks the next challenger should be his wife Hiroka because she is more stronger than he is!

Today DDT got to experience The Great Nita and a new tag partner very similar to him. Atsushi Onita’s alter ego now has an ally in the form of The Great Koji, a new alter ego for Toy Kojima. Together with HARASHIMA they had a chaotic fight against Jun Akiyama, Bodyguard & Makoto Oishi. It ended with Nita & Koji both using a chain to hang Oishi by the neck over the ring apron until Oishi gave up. Backstage Nita & Koji gave a hint that they next want to fight for the All Asia Tag Team Titles. Koji reappeared at the end of the show to win the Iron Man Title. In the aftermath DDT determined that Toy Kojima and The Great Koji are completely different people. That means the Iron Man Title will change hands again only when Koji loses to somebody, not Kojima.

Bodyguard is sticking around a little bit longer because he has a problem with D.O.A. His theme song is called “DEAD OR ALIVE” so it is unacceptable that somebody else in wrestling is using the phrase! He challenged D.O.A to a KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles match. If D.O.A wins then they get his blessing to continue using the name. But if Bodyguard wins he gets the titles and the team name! He wants his team to be completely made up of wrestlers from Osaka. Tsutenkakka volunteered to be part of the team and was accepted. Bodyguard said he will decide on the other member when the date of the title match is determined.

In the lead up to the show Daisuke Sasaki teased his match with Takeshi Masada was going to be Hair Vs Hair. He even took out a pair of scissors during the match and tried to cut off Masada’s locks. Masada fought back to take the scissors off him and he tried to cut Sasaki’s hair too. The rest of the match went on without incident.

Danshoku Dieno continues to fill his mouth with wasabi paste to power up the Lip Lock.

First thing’s first, Hiromu Takahashi won back the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title from Taiji Ishimori at New Japan over the weekend. So his match with Kazuki Hirata is back to being a title match unless he loses it again before then. The two met each other today for a Youtube broadcast to decide the rules for their match. But before that, Hirata tried to pin Takahashi to win the belt right there and then. Takahashi kicked out so Hirata immediately announced the match rules he came up with. It will consist of multiple rounds and each round will use a stipulation created by past DDT Extreme Champions along with new stipulations that are being kept secret until the show. There’s been an emergency change in plans over the Hardcore 6-Man Tag Match. Both Atsushi Onita and Toy Kojima are unable to be at the show but two replacements have been found. Onita will be replaced with The Great Nita! Joining him is The Great Koji… but not the one from 2002 All Japan. DDT is pretty clear this Great Koji is Toy Kojima’s alter ego, so don’t confuse him for Satoshi Kojima’s one-off gimmick.

Sanshiro Takagi and Tsutenkakka are teaming up again after the last time went so well for them.

Aw man, Tetsuya Endo and MJ Paul will have to fight each other. I know it’s MJ Paul and not Mad Paulie but the match can still turn out to be an emotional one for Endo. It’s like being told to fight your pet labrador because you don’t hang out anymore.

A new face appears in DDT. Aizawa No.1 got his name from his days working at a host club in Kabukicho. He wrestled for Michinoku Pro in the late 2000s, retired for a few years and then returned 2015 bouncing around the wrestling scene ever since.

Eruption are using their champion status to enter the Real World Tag League in All Japan as representatives of DDT. In the meantime they will put the All Asia Tag Titles on the line against Yusuke Okada & Yuya Koroku in DDT. Okada & Koroku have been teaming up a lot lately and want to win the belts so that they belong to BURNING again. Koroku is also fueled with jealousy over his rival Okatani’s success lately.

Before Yamashita travelled to America she learned who her first challenger for the Princess Of Princess Title will be at the end of this month. Regina is an 8 year veteran from Tuusula, Finland who wrestles for FCF over there. She is 166cm tall and weighs 105kg. Yamashita said she wants to be careful fighting her, especially when she found out Regina is the FCF Finnish Heavyweight Champion and has defeated larger male wrestlers in her reign. This will be their only match together on Regina’s tour of TJPW because Yamashita is in America during her other appearances. All Yamashita can do to prepare is to find videos of Regina’s matches to watch while she is away.

Free WiFi have only just won the Princess Tag Team Titles so they intend not to lose them easily. Their first challengers are Moka Miyamoto & Juria Nagano. The two of them now have a new team name: Shinken Kusho! In order to prepare for this match Nao Kakuta has done two things. She is starting to make meals in a rice cooker like Miyamoto often does. She also bought the latest FRIDAY magazine because Nagano is in the issue as the centerfold. Hikari Noa asked Nagano to write her new team name on her page in the magazine. Kakuta thinks Free WiFi is the cooler name.

Normally DDT does a Battle Royal on the same show to determine the No. 1 Contender a year in advance but that did not happen last time.
