The exciting new voyage that is ROMANCE DAWN has hit a few rocks in the form of Aka Rangers. The veteran tag team took the fresh pairing to school and taught them an important lesson: pro wrestling is not just about making memories. Takashi Sasaki could feel Shota’s passion in the ring but asks if he is satisfied with only doing that. GENTARO is a little less harsh and is open to wrestling Shota in a Best 2 out of 3 Falls match with a 61 minute time limit. Soma Takao said he isn’t aiming to be the best in DDT or Ganbare☆Pro this year. Instead he wants to be active in as many promotions as he can so ROMANCE DAWN will be recognised everywhere.

Jun Tonsho tried to roll up MAO for the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title after their match but failed to win it.

YuuRI Absent From This Weekend’s Tripleheaders

Yesterday it was announced that YuuRI will be unable to compete at this weekend’s Ganbare☆Pro tripleheaders. She was in close contact with covid and ended up testing positive after taking a PCR test. No other member of Ganpro has been in a recent close contact situation so she is the only absence for the shows. The changes are as follows below.

Earlier today Chris Brookes & Maki Itoh went to visit Minoru Suzuki at his clothing store Piledriver in Harajuku. Their intention was to initiate Suzuki as the newest member of The Itoh Respect Army before their match against Eruption. Despite Suzuki’s intimidating presence, the two introduced themselves to him and explained what was going on. Suzuki told them if they spent 10,000 yen in his shop then he would become friends with them. He gave advice to Itoh, telling her not to compare herself to others. He also said he will target Yukio Sakaguchi because he has known him since junior high. Brookes volunteered to fight Saki Akai because they are both tall and slim wrestlers who have good chemistry together in the ring. That leaves Itoh to deal with Kazusada Higuchi. Brookes told Itoh they both have iron heads so it will be an even fight. Itoh welcomed Suzuki into the Itoh Respect Army after making Brookes pay for their items. However Suzuki denies joining the unit because he is still Suzuki-gun.

Two years ago Gake No Fuchi Joshi held an unforgettable Ittenyon show where Brookes and Miyako Matsumoto had a nightmare of a Falls Count Anywhere Match. Matsumoto urgently decided to hold a show on 4th January again but this time it’s to welcome one of the newest joshi units onto the scene. A few weeks ago several wrestlers from Ice Ribbon announced their intentions to go leave the company and become a freelance death match unit called Prominence. One of the key members of this new unit is Suzu Suzuki who was built up by Ice Ribbon to be their young prodigy with a love for death match wrestling. A Hardcore Match against Brookes is exactly what she is looking for after taking her career in a new direction.

The other members of Prominence will also be on the show for other matches. The members are Risa Sera, Mochi Miyagi and Akane Fujita. Gake No Fuchi in the past hasn’t held more than two matches in a single show so I expect it to be a tag match with Matsumoto also involved. As you will see below the Prominence wrestlers have no problem with wrestling each other.

Prominence is also showing up on the next DDTeeeen!! show with Suzuki and Fujita taking part in a Hardcore Match. Suzuki will team with Hideki Okatani who recently took part in his first Hardcore Match thanks to Shunma Katsumata. Only makes sense for Katsumata to drag him into another here.

Now that Mizuki Watase has gotten his feet wet in Ganbare☆Pro he is getting straight to business. He is reviving RENEGADES with Shigehiro Irie! The tag team was originally a unit led by Irie during his 2018 main event run in DDT. However most of the unit was made up of foreign wrestlers so for now RENEGADES is coming back as just a tag team. Watase said he will DM the other members and ask them to come back once the pandemic is over. There is one question I have to ask. Does this mean Watase will wrestle in a suit again?

The Ganbare☆Joshi division is open to work with Color’s and that relationship continues here. Yuna Manase is looking for more joshi to appear on GanJo shows. YuuRI also just learned a harsh lesson being in the ring with SAKI.

Hajime was once known as Hajime Nomura from WRESTLE-1. He switched over to an undead facepaint look right around the time W1 collapsed last year. He has since haunted the indie scene and will make his first appearance in Ganpro.

The bad blood between Pheromones and The Kuronita Army is getting hotter. Atsushi Onita thinks his team are a lock to win the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles so he got himself, Sanshiro Takagi and Hisaya Imabayashi (unwillingly standing in for Kuro-chan) to pose with the belts at the press conference. Danshoku Dieno brought up concerns that Imabayashi will interrupt the match and cancel it like he always do. Pheromones attacked Imabayashi to send a warning to their challengers. Onita rescued him and sent Pheromones fleeing. Imabayashi promised to give The Kuronita Army a year end bonus as thanks if they win the titles from Pheromones.

The final big DDT show of 2021 has its title matches decided. Konosuke Takeshita and Yuji Okabayashi have their rematch, this time with the KO-D Openweight Title is on the line. Their D-Ou Grand Prix match ended in a 30 minute draw but the rematch will have a 60 minute limit. Kenta Kobashi was a fan of that match and hopes the rematch will be just as exciting. There also won’t be a lot of opportunities for Takeshita and Okabayashi to wrestle each other before the show because Okabayashi has his own schedule with Big Japan keeping him busy.

With his grudge against Soma Takao out of the way, Daisuke Sasaki faces an unlikely next challenger. Masahiro Takanashi gets a DDT Universal Title match on the recommendation of his friend Chris Brookes. Sasaki thought Takanashi had retired and went to work somewhere in Ichigaya. But he was convinced to put the title on the line against him.

The new powerhouse team of Yuji Hino & Bodyguard challenge DISASTER BOX for the KO-D Tag Team Titles. This is coming off of a poor tournament for both HARASHIMA & Naomi Yoshimura. HARASHIMA finished with zero wins while Yoshimura lost to both Hino & Bodyguard in their block. Even if having no momentum wasn’t a problem, the champions still have two big mountains to climb.

No injury is going to stop Yukio Sakaguchi for long.

Minoru Suzuki and Maku Donaruto will be on the show. Imagine if they get paired together.

Ganpro Double Tripleheader In January

The new year for Ganbare☆Pro begins with two tripleheader shows within days of each other. The first day takes place in Kitazawa Town Hall on 8th January. Shinjiro Otani knows full well there is another big wrestling show is happening that day but he believes in the power of pro wrestling and he believes this tripleheader will be a success. The second tripleheader takes place two days later in Itabashi Green Hall. Each show promises to be individual from each other while all conveying the power of Ganpro!

Shota has always wanted to do a wrestling summit combining the Japanese and American wrestling scenes. The show he gets to produce here is much smaller in scale but he is still calling it the Indie Wrestling Summit. Shota thinks independent wrestling in this day and age isn’t about company size, roster numbers or skill levels. It’s whether or not the people involved have the spirit of the indies. Shota is using his 13 years of experience to gather wrestlers with this spirit and show them off at the highest level.

Soma Takao will be on the show. Shota doesn’t have a match yet so ROMANCE DAWN could face a team from the indies.

Normally it is the DDT Extreme Champion who chooses the match stipulation for title defences. However Shinya Aoki allowed Kazuki Hirata to pick the match gimmick this time. They agreed to an “All Men Are Equal!” match. Hirata explained that Aoki’s fighting power is 530,000 while his own power is just 20 (he promises to level up to 25 in time for the match). To make it a fair fight Aoki has to fight at Hirata’s level and only use moves that Hirata would do. For example, Aoki is not allowed to use a Cobra Clutch because Hirata never used that move himself. The match will be stopped if Aoki doesn’t fight like Hirata. Two referees, Hisaya Imabayashi and another person will be at ringside to judge what Aoki can and cannot do. This also means Aoki must learn to dance like Hirata because that is inevitable.

Shunma Katsumata is getting annoyed by the behavior of Pheromones. His button was pushed even more when he signed the contract for the match and noticed a funny smell coming from the pen. He found out the pen was in Yuki Iino’s mouth and covered in his drool. Konosuke Takeshita isn’t bothered by the mind games because as the champion of DDT he is prepared for everything his opponents will throw at him. Katsumata doesn’t have that patience and tried to attack Pheromones. Danshoku Dieno stopped him in his tracks with the Lip Lock.

Yuna Manase is as fired up as she’s ever been to promote her match against Saki Akai. It makes her angry that Akai hasn’t been putting in the same amount of effort and will make it all the sweeter if she beats her. Akai is surprised to see Manase act like this. She always assumed she was the older sister type. Instead Akai thinks she is trying to hide how smaller and weaker she actually is.

Seven members of DAMNATION gather together for the unit’s final match. Shuji Ishikawa unfortunately will not get his wish to sing karaoke with DAMNATION at the Tokyo Dome. However Hiroshi Yamato is missing from the lineup too but I don’t know what his schedule is.

DDT wants to put more effort into the early matches of their shows to make up for the shorter run times enforced by the pandemic. Putting together the undercard under these conditions is a problem Sanshiro Takagi is trying to figure out. The restrictions prevent DDT from filling venues with fans so DDT have decided to stream the first three matches (the two pre-show matches and Match #1) live on their Youtube channel for those who cannot attend shows.

Normally the early matches are for the young wrestlers but Takagi wants to get creative. So he’s putting Yumiko Hotta and Shinya Aoki on opposite teams. Both of them fought in RIZIN and Takagi wants to see how they would fare against each other for that reason. This is also surprising because Hotta was publicly upset over Natsumi Maki leaving Actwres girl’Z for Tokyo Joshi Pro at the end of 2018. If she held any grudge with DDT over that then it looks like it is all water under the bridge now.

1. 1st Ganpro Mixed Tag Tournament – Round 1: Yumehito Imanari & Yuna Manase defeated Shota & Miss Mongol when Imanari pinned Shota with an Aerial Body Drop (10:31).
2. 1st Ganpro Mixed Tag Tournament – Round 1: Keisuke Ishii & HARUKAZE defeated Shigehiro Irie & Miyako Matsumoto when Ishii pinned Matsumoto with the Hidoiwaza (10:00).
3. Shu Sakurai Trial Single Match: Shinjiro Otani defeated Shu Sakurai with a Knifehand Strike Chop (16:45).
4. 1st Ganpro Mixed Tag Tournament – Round 1: Asuka & Shinichiro Tominaga defeated Kouki Iwasaki & Itsuki Aoki when Asuka pinned Aoki with the Safflower Robe (13:39).
5. 1st Ganpro Mixed Tag Tournament – Round 1: Shuichiro Katsumura & Moeka Haruhi defeated Ken Ohka & Cherry when Katsumura submitted Ohka with the Ninja Choke (16:36).

The 1st Ganpro Mixed Tag Tournament is finally under way. Every match in the opening round had a 30 minute time limit and any time limit draw would be decided with 1 Count Sudden Death rules. Most of the teams entering the tournament has their own team name to add to the fun. Also there were rumours spreading in the locker room during the show that a Mixed Tag Team Championship might be created and rewarded to the tournament winners.

In the main event Harukatsu Shoot (Shuichiro Katsumura & Moeka Haruhi) defeated Ken-chan Cherry-chan (Ken Ohka & Cherry). Katsumura blocked the Fire Spear with the Ninja Choke and held onto the move even when Ohka turned it into the Vertical Drop Brainbuster. Ohka couldn’t shake him off and had to give up. Cherry blamed Ohka for the lost and kept telling him he shouldn’t have tapped out no matter how bad his neck was getting twisted. Haruhi said her team will go on to win the tournament. They will also be defending the GWC 6-Man Tag Team Titles tomorrow outside of Ganbare☆Pro.

The Weekend Lovers of Asuka & Shinichiro Tominaga advance after beating Team Frenzy (Kouki Iwasaki & Itsuki Aoki). The teamwork shown by Weekend Lovers was the deciding factor. They used a Double Super Kick to get rid of Iwasaki then doubleteamed Aoki until the finish. Iwasaki asked Aoki if they should practice under Ikuto Hidaka to get better. Aoki suggested bringing in Munenori Sawa instead. Asuka isn’t sure if the rumours of a new championship are true but if it is then she wants to be the first champion.

The non-tournament match had Shinjiro Otani beat Shu Sakurai as part of Sakurai’s trial series. It was Yumehito Imanari’s idea to put the match together because he wants Otani to wrestle in Ganpro more often. Imanari thinks there were some NOAH fans who came to the show today because of “CYBERFIGHT FESTIVAL 2021”. He is happy to see Ganpro grow but understands there is a limit due to its size which is why he called upon Otani to help them out. The heat of Ohka and the heat of Otani combined will create a hot pot of pro wrestling!

Back to the tournament. Harukaze Kogyo (Keisuke Ishii & HARUKAZE) eliminated Kinniku Kurukuru Shojo Tai (Shigehiro Irie & Miyako Matsumoto) in an even 10 minutes. Ishii pinned Matsumoto with his modified version of the Emerald Flowsion. Irie shook his opponents’ hands after the match but ignored Matsumoto and left her alone in the ring. Backstage Irie threw in his support for a Mixed Tag Team Championship to be created. He’d fight for one with a different tag partner though. Meanwhile Ishii told HARUKAZE that he wants them to fight like they are going to split up if they lose, just like how it happened with DREAMS HARU TRUE. However HARUKAZE said she is fighting with the goal of reuniting DREAMS HARU TRUE.

Last but not least, Gyaku Funka Murasaki En-gun (Yumehito Imanari & Yuna Manase) defeated the team known as Yasashiku Naritai (Shota & Miss Mongol). The power of FMW was summoned when Shota & Miss Mongol did a United Thunder Fire Power Bomb to Imanari. But Imanari blocked Shota’s Frog Splash with his knees and pinned him with a Lou Thesz Press.

The semi-finals on 27th June are Harukatsu Shoot Vs Gyaku Funka Murasaki En-gun and Weekend Lovers Vs Harukaze Kogyo. The final is held on the same day.
