TOKYO JOSHI PRO “TOKYO JOSHI PRO ’24”, 04/01/2024
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. Yuki Kamifuku, Mahiro Kiryu & Toga Vs Moka Miyamoto, Juria Nagano & Kaya Toribami
2. Mizuki & Runa Okubo Vs Ryo Mizunami & Haru Kazashiro
3. Shoko Nakajima Vs Hyper Misao
4. Riho Vs Shino Suzuki
5. Rika Tatsumi, Miu Watanabe & HIMAWARI Vs Yuki Aino, Raku & Pom Harajuku
6. Aja Kong Vs Wakana Uehara
7. Special Single Match: Rina Yamashita Vs Maki Itoh
8. International Princess Title: Max The Impaler (c) Vs Yuki Arai
9. Princess Tag Team Titles: Hikari Noa & Nao Kakuta (c) Vs Suzume & Arisu Endo
10. Princess Of Princess Title: Miyu Yamashita (c) Vs Masha Slamovich

This is the complete card for the Tokyo Joshi Pro Ittenyon show, ten matches in all. Riho from AEW was the most recent big name added to the lineup. Her match against Shino Suzuki will be her first appearance in TJPW since October 2022.

The match between Rina Yamashita and Maki Itoh does not have any violent stipulation attached to it yet. However Itoh warns that if her opponent uses a weapon then she will too. That is why she always brings her pizza cutter everywhere she goes.

Ryo Mizunami’s match sees her placed in the ring with Mizuki and the two youngest rookies Runa Okubo and Haru Kazashiro. Okubo has been developing a more power-based moveset so Mizunami is going to be a valuable opponent for her to learn from.

BASARA “BASARA 239 ~UTAGE~”, 07/01/2024
Shin-Kiba 1st RING

1. Union MAX Title: FUMA (c) Vs Minoru Fujita

When BASARA returns in the new year FUMA will put the Union MAX Title on the line against Minoru Fujita. The title challenge comes from Fujita wanting to turn around Sento Minzoku’s fortunes in 2024. The match also shows the opposite family lives between champion and challenger. FUMA got married this year and life as a whole has been fulfilling for him lately while Fujita is a divorced man with only pro wrestling to rely on. A man with nothing to lose is always a dangerous foe.

Kanagawa Tsurumi Fruit & Vegetable Market

1. Special 4 Way Match: MAO Vs Mecha Mummy Vs Mecha Pandita Vs Demonio Uno
2. All Asia Tag Team Titles – Current Blast Death Match: Yukio Sakaguchi & Hideki Okatani (c) Vs Atsushi Onita & Toy Kojima

For some reason the Tsurumi Fruit & Vegetable Market has become home to a number of pro wrestling’s most bizarre creations. Demonio Uno (or Demonio Dos) always pops up when TJPW runs shows there only to find out it is not the scariest monster in the area by a long shot. Mecha Mummy is going to show up after spending a year getting its improvements worked on over at Baka Gaijin + Friends. Then there is Mecha Pandita who as far as I know has not been seen since the short lived Bakuha Koshien promotion that ran during the pandemic. Filling out this 4 Way is MAO who is either the only normal part of the match or the most crazy out of everyone depending on your own point of view.

Yuki Ishida has opted to take time off in order to concentrate on treating a herniated lumbar disc. He had this injury back in August but returned in November. Unfortunately the injury is still bothering him so he is back out of action for the time being.

It’s still a close race in the A Block but if KANON pulls off a second upset in a row he will suddenly find himself on top of the B Block! Rei Saito needs to win this or he will not be able to qualify for the final.

Kazuki Hirata’s last block match is against Chris Brookes. Lost this and Hirata ends the tournament with the wooden spoon award. A win though will save him some face, even if it’s just by a little bit.

8. D-Oh Grand Prix 2023 – B Block: MAO Vs Yukio Naya

Toru Owashi admits he is more worried about the mental stress of being in the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title Battle Royal for his return match rather than the physical stress. He knows his best skill is managing traffic during chaotic matches but the appearance of this new guy called The Great Koji has him a little concerned the pressure will be too much to handle. Owashi thinks he can beat Koji to win the Iron Man Title but to be honest, he doesn’t really want it.

7. Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Title: Isami Kodaka (c) Vs Shuichiro Katsumura

During the week Ken Ohka & Keisuke Ishii travelled to the All Japan dojo in Yokohama so they could train for a few hours with Shuji Ishikawa. The three of them have ties going back to Union Pro. Ishii invaded the promotion and kicked Ohka out of Union by winning a Loser Leaves Town match. Ohka went on to form GanPro and started a war with Union and Ishikawa. A lot of time has passed since then and Ohka is proud to see how far all three of them have advanced since then. The training session included Ishikawa coming up with ideas to improve Ohka’s finisher the Fire Spear. The move has been countered a lot by Ohka’s current enemy Kuma Arashi in their recent matches. Ishikawa and Ishii instructed Ohka new ways to use the Spear so there will be less opportunities for it to be countered. By the end of the session Ohka can now hit the Spear with more accuracy, less momentum and also from a shorter range.

Shunma Katsumata revealed the reason why he wanted Eruption to be his opponents for his return match. 2024 is going to be Katsumata’s 10th year in wrestling and Yukio Sakaguchi was one of his opponents in his debut match. So Katsumata wants to kick off his tenth year by fighting his very first pro opponent again. He is impressed by how well Hideki Okatani performed in the Real World Tag League. And finally Katsumata appreciates all the hard work Toy Kojima did to protect The 37KAMIINA while he was recovering at home. Katsumata also has his eyes on winning back the DDT Extreme Title and KO-D Tag Team Titles in 2024.

3. Rina Yamashita Vs Maki Itoh
4. International Princess Title: Max The Impaler (c) Vs Yuki Arai
5. Princess Of Princess Title: Miyu Yamashita (c) Vs Masha Slamovich

The Ittenyon tradition continues with the fifth annual Shoko Nakajima Vs Hyper Misao singles match! Nothing extra has been announced yet but there is always a wacky stipulation attached to these matches. The first two matches also had the winner change the loser’s name for a month but they stopped doing that for the third and fourth matches in order to keep the harmony within Kyoraku Kyomei for the upcoming Max Heart Tournament. Giving one of them an identity crisis right before the big tag team tournament is not a good idea.

Ryo Mizunami will be on the show.

Also on the show is the return of Lethal Weapon! The duo of Hartley Jackson & HARUKAZE have arguably been the top mixed tag team in GanPro. That makes them the perfect opponents for Banny Oikawa who is continuing down her path of intergender tag wrestling. She teams with Shigehiro Irie.

Kaho Matsushita is from Ice Ribbon. That company just announced a restructure with new investments attached to them so it might be an interesting story to see what they can do in 2024.

*V1 for Free Wi-Fi.
7. Princess Of Princess Title: Miyu Yamashita (c) defeated Regina with the Crash Rabbit Heat (12:40).
*V1 for Miyu Yamashita.

A new championship reign for Miyu Yamashita begun with a brand new opponent for her. Regina has spent the last couple of weeks touring with Tokyo Joshi Pro but did not have a chance to wrestle Yamashita until today’s main event. The wrestler from Finland attacked Yamashita from the start and yet her aggressive battle plan didn’t throw Yamashita off her game. That was even when Regina threw Yamashita into the front row of chairs at ringside and injured her knee. Yamashita found a chance to hit it big when she was able to carry Regina in the Attitude Adjustment position but that failed and Regina hit the Finnish. However Yamashita kicked out, gave Regina a German Suplex, knocked her down with the Skull Kick and won with the Crash Rabbit Heat. She offered a handshake after the match but Regina spat at her hand and walked off.

Backstage after the show Yamashita said Regina was a good opponent to put the Princess Of Princess Title on the line against because she is big, strong and a champion in her own country. However she didn’t like how Regina rejected her handshake. It makes Yamashita want to go visit Finland so she can kick Regina’s ass again, then visit a sauna and go meet Moomin. Regina explained her actions, saying she thought she was going to win. She admits Yamashita is good for a Japanese wrestler but not enough to deserve a handshake from her.

The other title defence on the show was also a successful V1 result for the champions. Free WiFi put the belts on the line against Shinken Kusho, the newly named team of Karate fighters. The 5G was used to take Moka Miyamoto out of the equation and Hikari Noa took on the responsibility of finishing off Juria Nagano. The Thrust Kick found its mark and Noa pinned Nagano with the Blizzard Suplex. She said there was no way they would lose today because she could feel how strong their WiFi signal was. But she and Nao Kakuta admitted they could see strong radio waves coming from Shinken Kusho. Miyamoto said she doesn’t want to end her team with Nagano here so they will get stronger to earn another title shot. Nagano said she was nervous because it was her first title match. She has regrets over the mistakes she made but understands it was good experience too.

For the first and last time ever Reiwa AA Cannon fought each other in a singles match. Yuki Arai got to put out everything she learned from teaming with Saki Akai against her in her only chance to surpass her partner. She came close to winning by hitting her own version of the Rookie Award followed by the Finally for a nearfall. Akai fought back with the authentic Rookie Award and got to win with the Qetzalcoatl. Akai thanked Arai afterwards for being her final singles opponent in Korakuen Hall. The next time she will step foot inside the building will be as a fan in the audience. She’s experienced a lot and encouraged Arai by telling her there will be many new experiences for her in the future including from people she has never met before. There will be setbacks and even times that will break Arai’s heart but Arai reminded her she has many friends who support her including herself.

After being on the shelf since the summer began Yuka Sakazaki made it back to action today, kicking off her graduation tour with Mizuki by her side. The Magical Sugar Rabbits were met with Hyper Misao and Pom Harajuku who were both dressed for a welcome back party. They gave Sakazaki a cake as a gift but it was just so they could shove it in Sakazaki’s face! The Magical Sugar Rabbits fought back by spraying silly string at their opponents. Sakazaki showed she was back in physical form by using the Magical Merry-Go-Round to pin Harajuku. She was happy with how her return went and wants to enjoy every moment of her final matches in TJPW.

A small-scale Rumble match was used to determine the No. 1 Contender for the International Princess Title. The champion Max The Impaler is currently away from Japan and has a scheduled title defence for EVE in England next month. This match here was to decide the next challenger after that. Mahiro Kiryu was the first elimination when she was the main victim of a Camel Clutch chain that involved all of the wrestlers in the match. Miu Watanabe then eliminated Suzume with the Tear Drop. Daydream fell apart when Rika Tatsumi decided to choke Watanabe. Their infighting cause them to fall over the top rope onto the apron and then both get knocked to the floor for a double elimination. Yuki Kamifuku pinned Arisu Endo with the Famouser and then everybody thought the match ended when Shoko Nakajima pinned Kamifuku with a Hurricanrana. That was until Raku got into the ring after briefly disappearing from view. She tried to pin Nakajima with a surprise attack but Nakajima fought back and pinned her with the Locomotion Northern Lights Suplex. Nakajima admitted she had enough luck to win and wants to make the most of her opportunity when she gets her title shot on 19th November.

Ryo Mizunami & Yuki Aino were feeling the Halloween spirit when Mizunami walked out wearing pumpkin headwear. She then made Yukinori Matsui wear it briefly. The team seems to be catching on because this time Aino scored the win by pinning Kaya Toribami with the Venus DDT. It is something Mizunami said she wants to build even further. Maki Itoh said it’s been two years since she last fought Mizunami. That happened in America when they were both in AEW. She respects Mizunami because of that history and wished she could have expressed her feelings even more to her in the ring.

A preview of the Next Generation Tournament was the first match on the show. In the end it was HIMAWARI who submitted Haru Kazashiro to win for her team. She hopes the result will move her up to the next gear just in time for the tournament to begin. Wakana Uehara pointed out she may have to fight HIMAWARI in the bracket but if they do she knows she will beat her. Runa Okubo is concerned to fight Toga because her Elbow Strikes looked stronger than everyone else’s. Shino Suzuki thinks she is feeling left behind and decided that she won’t be anymore starting right now!

After spending over five months away to recover from a lingering neck injury, Yuka Sakazaki returns to the ring at the end of October. In her first match back she gets to team with Mizuki for the first time in half a year. Hyper Misao & Pom Harajuku have been chosen as the opponents for The Magical Sugar Rabbits. When that is done with, Tokyo Joshi Pro will also announce Sakazaki’s future schedule with them next week. She is supposed to graduate from TJPW in December but it’s been suggested that may be slightly delayed in order to have Sakazaki make up for all the shows she missed with her absence.

Eight women will be entering the Battle Royal to win a shot at the International Princess Title. Among the competitors is the previous champion Rika Tatsumi along with other former champions Miu Watanabe and Yuki Kamifuku.

TJPW’s super player from the sub’s bench Ryo Mizunami is back to team with Yuki Aino once again!

8. Princess Tag Team Titles: Hikari Noa & Nao Kakuta defeated Yuki Kamifuku & Mahiro Kiryu when Kakuta pinned Kiryu with the Shiden Kai (13:37).
*Free WiFi becomes the 14th Princess Tag Team Champions!
9. International Princess Title & NWA World Women’s Television Title: Max The Impaler (N/c) defeated Rika Tatsumi (I/c) with the Short-Range Lariat (15:19).
*V3 for Max The Impaler. Rika Tatsumi fails in V5. Max The Impaler becomes the 11th International Princess Champion!
10. Princess Of Princess Title: Miyu Yamashita defeated Mizuki (c) with the Crash Rabbit Heat (21:24).
*Mizuki fails in V4. Miyu Yamashita becomes the 13th Princess Of Princess Champion!

For the fourth time Miyu Yamashita has become the Princess Of Princess Champion! She was able to toughen out Mizuki’s Face Lock, Cutie Special and also the Whirling Candy as well as several Diving Foot Stomps. Mizuki also showed her determination by kicking out of the Skull Kick. Yamashita kept focus and landed a High Kick before finishing Mizuki off with the Crash Rabbit Heat. Yamashita wanted to shake Mizuki’s hand after the match but Mizuki hugged her instead. The title win makes Yamashita a worldwide triple crown champion! She now holds singles championships from Japan, Britain (EVE) and America (SPARK). Yamashita got on the microphone and said the belt still feels as extremely heavy as it did the previous times she won it. The reason she’s been able to have this success for the last decade is because she is strong but Mizuki is why the belt shines as bright as it does right now. She closed out the show by telling the fans not to set their own limits.

Backstage she repeated her praise for Mizuki, saying this match was the motivation that kept Yamashita going while she was wrestling in America for three months. She wants to defend the Princess Title overseas but also anticipates defending against wrestlers from around the world within Tokyo Joshi Pro. Mizuki said she couldn’t help but feel scared when she lost the match but so many fans in the audience and wrestlers backstage showed their support for her when it was over. It was another reminder of how blessed she is and it gives her another reason to become stronger. If she gets a chance she wants to win the title back but she realises there are more things she can do than just win belts. She’ll continue to be herself because she wants to become everyone’s princess forever.

A double championship match was in the semi-main event position, marking the first time in 8 and a half years an NWA championship was defended in Japan. Max The Impaler defeated Rika Tatsumi not only to retain the NWA Women’s TV Title but win the International Princess Title too! Max threw Tatsumi around the ring a lot early so Tatsumi came up with a plan. When they were both outside the ring Tatsumi threw some of the other wrestlers at Max! Miu Watanabe was easily knocked aside, Pom Harajuku was safely stopped in her place and Wakana Uehara was thrown right back at Tatsumi. Back in the ring Tatsumi changed tactics to target Max’s knee. It seemed to have paid off when Max favoured the knee after giving her opponent a Backbreaker. Tatsumi wore down Max and applied the Dragon Sleeper but it was power countered into a Fire Thunder Driver. Max then fired Lariats at Tatsumi until they got the 3 count. Max showed enough respect to shake Tatsumi’s hand after the match. Tatsumi is speechless by the result because she will now have to start her defence road all over again. She wants Max to hold onto the title so she can get revenge by winning it back from them.

The alleged curses that’s been following Free WiFi have now been extinguished because they are the new Princess Tag Team Champions! The vacant titles were on the line when Free WiFi took on Toyo Mates with both sides fighting to win the belts for the first time. Mahiro Kiryu tried to apologise for “disconnecting” Free WiFi but her opponents cut her off. Hikari Noa avoided the Famouser from Yuki Kamifuku and got rid of her with the Blizzard Suplex. Free WiFi then gave Kiryu the 5G and Nao Kakuta tried to use the Shiden Kai. Kiryu struggled to break out but Kakuta eventually hit the move for the victory. The title win means Kakuta can finally get rid of her “Uncrowned Queen” nickname while Noa is rewarded for being in a tag team that has not split up over time. Kamifuku said she hates that Toyo Mates have not been able to get good results despite being together for so long. She thinks if they take seperate paths she will be able to beat Aja Kong while Kiryu can go on to beat Miyu Yamashita. They can then reunite and use their massively increased salary to fund different improvements for Toyo University.

A little bit of AEW action was in the undercard when Maki Itoh faced off against Nyla Rose. Itoh was in trouble after taking a Power Bomb but she dodged Rose’s Diving Guillotine Knee Drop and stunned her with the Kokeshi Headbutt. Itoh caused more damage with a Swinging DDT but made the mistake of missing the Flying Big Head. Rose quickly took advantage and used the Beast Bomb to put Itoh away. Rose said Itoh has a hard head and thinks the expression “hard-headed” came from her. She sees similarities between herself and Itoh but admits Itoh is cuter. Itoh said she will do her best to beat Rose next time and this is to be continued.

Speculation over NEO Biishiki-gun’s future in TJPW spread across the fanbase leading into the show. The main four figureheads of the group gathered together once more to battle a ragtag bunch of misfits led by Shoko Nakajima. One of those misfits was Antonio Honda and he took the weirdest punishment by taking an injection in the backside from Yukio Saint Laurent. That injection turned out to be an unintentional energy boost, sending NEO Biishiki-gun packing until he tripped on the ropes before a dive. NEO Biishiki-gun regrouped to one by one take out the opposition. Sakisama & Mei Saint-Michel gave Nakajima the Tarte Tatin, Martha used her mop to stretch out Suzume and Saint Laurent tortured Honda some more. All that was left to do was for Sakisama to pin Pom Harajuku with the Academy Award.

After the match Sakisama spoke about NEO Biishiki-gun’s victory. She said she is done shining a light in TJPW and it is time for her to shine the light somewhere else. She is always travelling around the world but this time she is bringing the rest of NEO Biishiki-gun along with her. She told the audience that whenever they see a red rose, she wants them to think of her. All four members bowed and left the ring, perhaps for the final time.

Yuki Arai’s pro wrestling career has now introduced her to Ryo Mizunami. The two of them started off their tag match against each other with Arai taking the full brunt of the veteran’s attacks. Miu Watanabe kept things level by matching her power with Mizunami’s. That meant Arai now had to focus on Yuki Aino who has become a regular opponent of her’s. The Venus DDT only got Aino a 2 count and Arai slipped out of the UBV. She hit Aino from behind with the Finally to the back of the head. Arai then hit another Finally from the front to win the match. Watanabe praised her tag partner’s performance, describing her like a flower blooming from another flower. Mizunami also recognised the passion coming from Arai just for taking her Chops alone.

Hyper Misao has not forgotten about Aja Kong destroying the Hyper Cycle back at “SUMMER SUN PRINCESS ’23” in July. She declared she would get revenge today by defeating Kong directly. Although Misao was able to blind Kong with spray at the beginning, she wasn’t able to achieve her goal. Instead Kong performed the Oyasumi Express with Raku on top of poor Toga and then turn her attention to Wakana Uehara. Misao had brought up Uehara’s harsh experience of training with Kong on the Yume Pro Wrestling show last year. Today was Uehara’s chance to show her worth. She wore down Kong with the Sleeper Hold and avoided the Vertical Drop Brainbuster but Kong grabbed her in the Back Drop and that was all she needed to win. She then encouraged Uehara to slap her across the face after the match. Uehara did so and Kong pushed her back down.

In a match between two karate fighters, Moka Miyamoto came out on top against Juria Nagano. During the match Nagano got to show off a little bit of submission work by countering the Rashomon into an Arm Lock. When it came to strikes though, Miyamoto got the winning exchange by dodging the Hurricane Kick and hitting the Zero-Sen Kick in return. She then pinned Nagano with the Korokan. Miyamoto said she thinks she knows Nagano the best and could sense how much she has grown. For that reason she wants to continue teaming with Nagano and together fight for the Princess Tag Team Titles. Nagano likes the idea and agreed to go that direction next. Free WiFi accepted the challenge when they found out about it.

The last time TJPW fought against Ganbare☆Joshi in a multi-woman tag match was at “GRAND PRINCESS ’22” where they lost to the visiting team. This time however the TJPW team were victorious. Riara dealt the first blow by putting Arisu Endo in the Paradise Lock and getting the rest of the team to pose a toast over her. HIMAWARI reversed fortunes and Kaya Toribami did a number on Riara until HARUKAZE came in with the Spear Of Fire. Yoshiko Hasegawa tried her best to finish off Endo but Endo turned the tables and made Hasegawa submit to the Camel Clutch.

The first match of the day was between the two youngest members of TJPW’s active roster, both only six months into their wrestling careers. Runa Okubo scored the first win in her career by making Haru Kazashiro submit to a Half Crab Hold. Okubo said she doesn’t want anybody looking down on her. It will make her happy if she wins and make people think she is strong. Although Kazashiro was upset to lose she is still happy she got to wrestle Okubo in a singles match today because they train together. She has no choice but to look ahead and do her best so she can beat Okubo some day.

The first couple of big events for 2024 were announced during the show. The 9th annual Ittenyon is at Korakuen Hall on 4th January. The “Futari wa Princess” Max Heart Tournament begins in January and the final is taking place at Korakuen on 10th February. “GRAND PRINCESS ’24” will be held in Sumo Hall on 31st March. It will be the second time the event takes place there.

“The Nordic Monster” Regina will make her TJPW debut later this month. Regina is from Fight Club Finland and is currently the FCF Finnish Heavyweight Champion over there. She is wrestling in Aizuwakamatsu on the 20th, Sendai on the 21st and Korakuen on the 27th.

Yuki Arai, Moka Miyamoto & Shino Suzuki Vs Suzume, Arisu Endo & Wakana Uehara is the TJPW Offer Match booked for DDT “ULTIMATE PARTY 2023” at Sumo Hall on 12th November.

5. Spirit Of Ganbare World Tag Team Titles: Shuichiro Katsumura & Takuya Wada (c) Vs Hikaru Sato & Tyson Maeguchi
6. Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Title: Isami Kodaka (c) Vs Yumehito Imanari

The contracts for the two title matches were signed earlier today. Yumehito Imanari spoke of the pride he felt seeing Shinichiro Tominaga try to beat Isami Kodaka for the Spirit Of Ganbare Title. Tominaga failed but his efforts inspired Imanari to be the next challenger to step in front in Kodaka. Even though Kodaka originally planned for this title reign to be like an invasion he has felt the warmth, fun and brightness of Ganbare☆Pro over time. So when he beat Tominaga it brought him back to reality when he noticed the fans were disappointed with the result. He wants to remain champion in order to keep getting guaranteed bookings from GanPro. His previous memories of Imanari are only from back when Imanari was on the DDT video team. He is confident he will beat him because he cannot envision what kind of pro wrestler Imanari can be.

Hentai Punch Drunkers said they want to win back the Spirit Of Ganbare Tag Team Titles because they never got to hold onto the physical belts while they were champions. Hikaru Sato said that means you cannot say he and Tyson Maeguchi ever “lost the belts”. It is a loose end that needs to be tied up. In fact, Maeguchi is acting like this is his first ever championship match and believes the title he is fighting for has a lot of history behind it (no and no). Takuya Wada complained that GanPro was too leniant over the decision to book this rematch because Maeguchi hasn’t done anything recently to deserve another chance. Shuichiro Katsumura wants to win in order to prevent the first champion team from ever establishing a connection with the physical title belts. Wada and Maeguchi then almost got into a fight during the group photo and had to be kept apart.

Moka Miyamoto and Juria Nagano get pitted together for a karate fight. DDT “ULTIMATE PARTY 2023”, 12/11/2023
Tokyo Ryogoku Kokugikan

1. Saki Akai Retirement Match: Saki Akai Vs X
2. Special Single Match: Hiromu Takahashi Vs Kazuki Hirata
3. Dramatic Dream Match: Chris Jericho Vs KONOSUKE TAKESHITA
4. DDT Universal Title: Matt Cardona (c) (w/ Steph De Lander) Vs MAO
5. KO-D Openweight Title: Chris Brookes (c) Vs Yuki Ueno

I’m betting that Brookes’ shoulder injury is not bad enough to take him out of “ULTIMATE PARTY 2023” where he is advertised to defend the KO-D Openweight Title against Yuki Ueno. I’m daring fate here.

Despite losing his big match over the weekend, MAO was still encouraged to go his own direction and make a decision that will be best for himself. That quickly sent him down the road to challenging Matt Cardona for the DDT Universal Title. Of course Steph De Lander will be there too by the champion’s side. Maki Itoh had the right idea to try and incapacitate her in order to beat Cardona. Give MAO that battleplan and he will come up with an even crazier way to get that done.

So yeah, Chris Jericho is going to be on the show fighting Konosuke Takeshita. I didn’t expect that. The AEW feud surrounding Don Callis is going to have a chapter over in DDT where Takeshita is establishing himself back into a face for the home fans. I’m among the critics of Jericho who accuse him of constantly positioning himself into AEW angles that take the spotlight away from people who are getting over. But I’ll give it to him here, it’s paying off with a big match for DDT in Sumo Hall.

TOKYO JOSHI PRO “TJPW CITY CIRCUIT ’23 ~RIKA TATSUMI LOCAL TRIUMPH~” Results

September 16, 2023

TOKYO JOSHI PRO “TJPW CITY CIRCUIT ’23 ~RIKA TATSUMI LOCAL TRIUMPH~”, 16/09/2023
Nagano Kissei Bunka Hall Middle Hall
196 Fans

1. Suzume defeated Haru Kazashiro with the Ring A Bell (6:06).
2. Arisu Endo defeated Kaya Toribami with the Camel Clutch (6:15).
3. Hikari Noa defeated Pom Harajuku with the Blizzard Suplex (8:37).
4. Ryo Mizunami defeated Toga with a Spear (9:56).
5. Maki Itoh defeated Shino Suzuki with the Itoh Punish (10:12).
6. Aja Kong & Yuki Aino defeated Shoko Nakajima & Moka Miyamoto when Kong pinned Miyamoto with the Vertical Drop Brainbuster (12:44).
7. Rika Tatsumi & Miu Watanabe defeated Miyu Yamashita & Hyper Misao when Tatsumi pinned Misao with the Missile Hip (14:56).

For the first time Tokyo Joshi Pro went to visit Nagano for Rika Tatsumi’s homecoming show. Daydream won in the main event after they got rid of Miyu Yamashita with the Daydream Eternity. Tatsumi then got to pin Hyper Misao with the Missile Hip. After the match Tatsumi said her pro wrestling career will soon be 10 years old. She also told the audience her mother came to see her wrestle for the first time. Tatsumi didn’t know what her mother thought about the match and her mom in the crowd shouted it was great! Backstage Miu Watanabe said she loves how gorgeous Nagano is. Tatsumi said she would like to become a goodwill ambassador for Nagano as well as the mascot for her favorite restaurant here.

The show began with the announcement that Tatsumi will be facing Max The Impaler at “WRESTLE PRINCESS IV” on 9th October in a double championship match! Tatsumi will put the International Princess Title on the line against Max’s NWA World Women’s Television Title. Max is somebody Tatsumi wanted to face one on one but she never expected it to happen until now.

There were a lot of names absent from the show because of an illness going through the roster. Raku is one of them. Both Aja Kong & Yuki Aino performed the Oyasumi Express together in their match as a shoutout to her. They did their best and won their match but even then they felt like they needed their leader Raku with them. Kong also praised the TJPW roster for doing their best to run the show with so many people missing.

Maki Itoh revealed that while she was in America for her most recent tour, she took a taxi and got in a traffic accident when another vehicle hit the taxi from behind. Today for her first match back in Japan she beat Shino Suzuki. Itoh claims she didn’t even use 10% of her power to win because Suzuki is just a rookie. She was also honest and thought the fan reaction to her return was only so-so. She wants to get stronger and go her own way even if she doesn’t get full fan support.

Ryo Mizunami called Toga a young fighter with a lot of potential and a promising future. Toga got to hit her with the big Elbow Strike in their match. Mizunami said the strike really affected her body and even touched her heart. She knows Toga felt the same feeling and wants her to keep it while she does her best from now on. She would like to fight her again when Toga becomes stronger.

There was one more cancelled appearance a few hours before the show due to illness. Wakana Uehara was pulled from the event because she was showing symptoms of a fever last night and hadn’t recovered. Pom Harajuku was Hikari Noa’s opponent instead.

Tomorrow’s Tokyo Joshi Pro show has been rocked with a bug that’s gone through the roster this week. Mizuki, Yuki Kamifuku, Nao Kakuta, Mahiro Kiryu, Raku and HIMAWARI have all been pulled from the show due to illness. Also Yuki Arai has been pulled from this weekend’s SKE48 activities after falling ill too. Monday’s TJPW show is meant to have a mini SKE48 concert with her involved as well as her match so that might all be under risk too.

Most of the card has been reworked for all of the absences. Ryo Mizunami, who has become TJPW’s super substitute this year, has been called in to be Toga’s new opponent.

Before I Go To All In This Weekend

August 23, 2023

I’ll be travelling to England this weekend to see AEW in Wembley. I will also be at the EVE/ChocoPro show on Saturday night to see what Miyu Yamashita will get up to. I’ll be around to post the results for tomorrow’s Baka Gaijin show but after that my next post here won’t be until Monday night at the very earliest. If the build up of news and reports after I come back is too much I may delay this month’s DDT Around The World article by a few days. But I’m not going to get worried over that right now. Should be a fun weekend.

A first time ever singles match between Mizuki and Juria Nagano takes place on the show.

Miyu Yamashita, Nao Kakuta and Arisu Endo will still be absent for the same reasons they are missing this weekend’s Osaka show. Yamashita is in England, Kakuta is in a stage play and Endo is injured.

Akiyama already has one coming up on 9th September and now Atsushi Onita convinced him to take part in another one nine days later. However if Akiyama’s team beats Onita’s team on the 9th then Akiyama & Kotaro Suzuki’s match here against Onita & Yoshitatsu will have the All Asia Tag Team Titles on the line. *V4 for Rika Tatsumi.
10. Princess Of Princess Title: Mizuki (c) defeated Maki Itoh with the Cutie Special (24:29).
*V3 for Mizuki.

The history between Mizuki and Maki Itoh that begun under the original Itoh Respect Army seven years ago reached its dramatic peak in Ota Ward Gymnasium today. Mizuki successfully defended the Princess Of Princess Title in the main event, stopping Itoh from winning the title in her fourth attempt. The champion had the injured Yuka Sakazaki in her corner while Itoh came out singing “Brooklyn The Hole” in English. Itoh’s focus was to use variations of the DDT both inside and out of the ring. Mizuki did her own big moves outside the ring including the Cutie Special and a Flying Cross Body. Submission holds couldn’t finish the job either with both the Itoh Deluxe and Crossface Lock proving fruitless. Mizuki dealt a big blow by landing the Diving Double Stomp onto Itoh’s back. Itoh clung onto Mizuki and was able to deliver one last Headbutt in resistance but Mizuki fired back with a Spinning Back Elbow and pinned her with the Cutie Special.

After the match Mizuki said she never believed Itoh when she said she wanted to forget their history together and that the Itoh Mizuki knew is dead. They walked the same path together and Mizuki always looked up to Itoh as her rival. Itoh however said Mizuki doesn’t understand how Itoh feels. She doesn’t like to talk about the past because when they were together, Itoh saw Mizuki become stronger and win championships with someone else. It made Itoh jealous and she looks back on their time together a a black piece of history. It is only right now in the middle of Ota Ward that Itoh now believes she is on the same level as Mizuki. For that reason Mizuki now has her respect and she wants to continue fighting with her. The two shook hands and gave each other a hug. Itoh left the ring so Mizuki could close out the show.

The burning momentum of Yuki Aino wasn’t enough to take the International Princess Title from Rika Tatsumi. She showed a lot of power by using the Side Suplex outside the ring as well as one over the ropes from the ring apron! Tatsumi tried to smother her out with the Dragon Sleeper but Aino powered out of it with a slam. Tatsumi found a way to put her into another Dragon Sleeper but Aino reached the ropes. Aino withstood a Hip Attack and caught Tatsumi in the middle of a second one but Tatsumi wriggled her way into hitting the Twist Of Fate. She then got the win by hitting the Missile Hip. Tatsumi gave her opponent credit for shining as brightly as she did. She hopes the fans will look forward to more matches between them in the future. Aino said the result proves she is not ready to hold a title belt yet. But she had fun in the match because she was able to burn every last bit of energy she has.

NEO Biishiki-gun were back to give their opponents a hard time. That was shown when Mei Saint-Michel danced in the ring to distract the referee while Sakisama attacked Wakana Uehara on the outside. Saint-Michel later dropped her metal tray over Uehara’s head to break up a Sleeper Hold. Yuki Arai pulled out a surprise by using Saki Akai’s finisher the Rookie Award on Sakisama. NEO Biishiki-gun regained their composure and Sakisama hit the similar looking Academy Award to pin Uehara and win the match. Sakisama did not like hearing reporters compare the two moves during her post-match interview because she is one of a kind. In Arai’s interview, she explained that Akai taught her the move but she never got the chance to use it when they teamed together. She felt today was as good a time as any to start using the move because she thinks Sakisama bares a resemblance to Akai. She intends to keep using it more often.

Perhaps Miyu Yamashita didn’t realize just what she was getting into when she decided to put her EVE Title on the line against Sawyer Wreck. The Spirit Of EVE ruleset used for the title match allowed the fight to be taken outside the ring because there are no countouts. The rules also permitted the wrestlers to use weapons under certain circumstances, which Wreck gladly took advantage of. She attacked Yamashita with chairs and slammed her through a pile of them with a Death Valley Driver over by the stage entrance. Back in the ring Yamashita did her best to deflect the chair with kicks. Wreck was able to defend herself from one Skull Kick but a second one reached its target and gave Yamashita her seventh successful EVE Title defence.

The originally planned match for Nyla Rose didn’t take place because of Sakazaki’s injury. So when Rose found out her new opponent was Miu Watanabe she steadily gained weight to make it more difficult for Watanabe to lift her! As soon as the AEW wrestler arrived in Japan she loaded up on pork cutlet curry and sashimi at the nearest Cocoichi curry house. The plan just about worked. Watanabe was able to give her the Giant Swing but only for one rotation. She also wasn’t strong enough to deliver the Tear Drop. Rose took advantage and landed the Beast Bomb to win. Watanabe did leave a positive impression on Rose though. Rose said that even though Watanabe lost, she definitely has something that could open the door into a new world for her.

No Tag Rules were a last minute addition to the 3 Way Tag match. The time for Aja Kong and Max The Impaler to meet again was just about to begin when Hyper Misao got on the microphone to big up Kyoraku Kyomei’s chances of winning. Both Kong and Max ignored her so she sprayed both of them in the face. Kyoraku Kyomei then stole Kong’s steel can as well as Raku’s pillow but Kong attacked them to reclaim the items. Kong even hit Shoko Nakajima with the pillow while Raku hit Pom Harajuku with the can! Kong and Max were on an even level whenever they got the chance to fight each other. They briefly joined forces against Kyoraku Kyomei only to turn on each other. Misao brought out the Hyper Mobile to crash into everyone outside the ring while Nakajima pinned Harajuku with the Diving Senton to win. Kong took her anger out after the match by attacking the Hyper Mobile, damaging it to the point where it is now unusable! Kyoraku Kyomei are thinking about crowdfunding a new one or at least convince CyberFight to get a bicycle sponsorship. Kong & Raku said they’d rather crowdfund a new steel can and pillow for themselves.

It was a clean sweep of successful title defences throughout the whole show. Vert Vixen was the first one on the board by defending the DEFY Women’s Title against Hikari Noa. The challenger used the Running Neckbreaker Drop that’s been winning matches for her recently but it didn’t get her the result this time. The Last Supper cradle didn’t work either. Instead Vixen pinned Noa with a Vertical Drop Brainbuster. She said the match was like a war but she was able to fight and defend her championship. Noa said she was very happy to be chosen by Vixen for a title match. They’ve teamed together during Vixen’s previous visit to Japan and Noa always wanted to have a title match with somebody she considers to be a tag team partner.

Flashy entrances were provided by both teams in Match #3. VENYU were accompanied by two dancers leading them down to the ring while Nao Kakuta looked dressed to party with Ryo Mizunami. The match started with a bang when Asuka Moonsaulted onto everyone outside the ring. Yuki Kamifuku then put on Mizunami’s entrance gear to taunt her but was reduced to apologising once Mizunami got her hands on her. VENYU gave Kakuta the Magic Killer but Kakuta kicked out at two. She then dodged a Double Big Boot leading VENYU to collide with each other and then get wiped out with a Double Spear from Mizunami. Kakuta then scored the win by pinning Kamifuku with the Shiden Kai.

Five of the eight wrestlers in the 8-Woman Tag Match all only just debuted this year. The match was also Haruna Neko’s return match from a knee injury. Her scratching the wrestlers from the other team led to Mahiro Kiryu apologising to everyone for it. Shino Suzuki and Haru Kazashiro started off before Kiryu and Kaya Toribami took over. Toga cut off HIMAWARI’s momentum with what is fast becoming her signature Elbow Strike. Runa Okubo joined in with her classmate for a Double Dropkick. But HIMAWARI turned the tables and locked Kazashiro in a Half Crab hold for the submission victory.

Juria Nagano was back in action after being gone for six months with a broken finger. The decision was made to have Nagano team with Moka Miyamoto because they were opponents on last year’s show. Nagano went back to using her Karate offence while relying on Miyamoto to make up for the holes in her game. Suzume used her speedy mobility to run circles around her opponents, keeping them in position for Arisu Endo to hit a Missile Dropkick on Miyamoto. Endo then put Nagano in the Camel Clutch, submitting her to give Daisy Monkey the win. Nagano said she’s been trying to build up her stamina to get ready for the match. Her goal is to win a match by herself again as soon as possible.
