Ryota Nakatsu, SAGAT, Daiki Shimomura and Masato Kamino were all pulled from the show when they were suspected of having close contact with people who were covid positive. SAGAT has already taken a PCR test and is currently waiting for the results. The rest will follow.

The main event was turned into a Handicap Elimination match because of Shimomura’s absence. Akiyori Takizawa took SAGAT’s place in Match #2 and the opening tag match was switched to a singles match with the remaining wrestlers.

Referee Yuya Okada also tested positive during the week and was not at the show. Freelance ref Daisuke Kanbayashi (previously from WRESTLE-1 and All Japan) filled in for him.

Yuya Koroku no longer has a singles match (Okada was his original opponent), instead he will replace Naya in what is now Match #2.

On New Year’s Eve Ryota Nakatsu won a Battle Royal to determine the No. 1 Contender of the Union MAX Title. Since he is already the champion his reward was to choose his next opponent. He picked Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi, the person he last eliminated to win the Battle Royal.

The first IRON FIST Tag Champions have a chance to reclaim the belts. Look BASARA is a small promotion they can only cycle through the same teams for title matches over and over. IRON PRIEST lost the titles to Speed Of Sounds the first time around too. So maybe winning them back will bring some closure to the rivalry on their end.

4. Takumi Tsukamoto, Fuminori Abe & Masahiro Takanashi defeated Isami Kodaka, Daiki Shimomura & Minoru Fujita when Tsukamoto pinned Shimomura with the O-Cannon Bomb (16:19).

Ryota Nakatsu jokingly made sure he didn’t break Banana Senga’s jaw this time and kept asking him if his chin was ok after the main event. Senga was angry over losing to Nakatsu and had to be held back by Tsutomu Oosugi. He was told he was getting hot headed before their next match where this time the IRON FIST Tag Titles will be on the line. After Speed Of Sounds left, Nakatsu said he & SAGAT will win the belts on 26th December and he will become a double crown champion! Sparky and SOS later had another confrontation backstage after the show.

Earlier this year Takumi Tsukamoto was a triple crown champion holding the Union MAX Title, the BJW Death Match Title and the obscure CCW Canadian Heavyweight Title. He eventually lost the first two but still has the CCW Title in his possession. Little is known about the origins of the title but Tsukamoto was told it was brought to Japan by Bad News Allen around 20 years ago and other former champions include Shigeo Okumura and Kazuhiko Matsuzaki. It was revived five years ago and Tsukamoto was even part of the tournament to crown the new champion. Daichi Kazato told him he never defends the title so he dared him to put it on the line against him. It took some convincing but in the end Tsukamoto agreed to a title match on 26th December.

This was Minoru Fujita’s first match in BASARA since August. Masahiro Takanashi paused the match to congratulate him on his return from illness. He then hit him with the Rocket Punch.

During Match #2 Kazato and Oosugi got into an endless cycle of Tombstone reversals along the entrance ramp that took them away from ringside and out of their match. They returned to the ring still doing the reversals after Match #4. Oosugi won out by hitting the Tombstone on Kazato and left. Kazato then grabbed a microphone while prone and made his CCW Title challenge to Tsukamoto.

Since Kenta Kobashi will be in attendance to see the D-Ou Grand Prix final, Tetsuya Endo decided to visit him at his gym during the week to get some feedback on his tournament performance. Endo also brought up his plans to create a new unit. He asked Kobashi for advice, citing Kobashi’s experience leading units such as GET and Burning. Kobashi said a unit needs a strategist so Endo’s position would improve if he finds a councilor. Endo immediately asked Kobashi if he could take that role in the unit. Kobashi declined because he is not interested in returning to the ring. He did however invite Endo back to his gym again after the Grand Prix so they could talk more about potential members for Endo’s new unit.

While I’ve been writing up this blog post, all of a sudden DDT sends out a tweet in English hyping up a big mystery name. “That BIG NAME that everyone’s talking about recently will be at DDT 12.26 NEVER MIND 2021 in YOYOGI! Around five years ago Nakatsu broke Senga’s jaw in a match and while he accepts the blame over the injury, he doesn’t think he is responsible now to pay for any compensation towards Senga. Instead he is willing to defend the MAX Title against him.

All is good between Sparky after their Union MAX Title match. Ryota Nakatsu said only people who are the same age and on the same team could fight each other like they do. It was a fight to the death but all that separated Nakatsu from SAGAT was a rolling pin. Nakatsu says it is his new move and he wants to call it the Nakaroll.

Speed Of Sounds approached Sparky after the main event. Banana Senga said he has a history with Nakatsu. Five years ago they were supposed to have a singles match but before it took place Nakatsu broke Senga’s jaw in a tag team bout. Senga says Nakatsu owes him a lot of money over it so he should get a MAX Title shot on 14th December. Nakatsu agreed but in return he wants an IRON FIST Tag Titles match with SAGAT against as his partner on 26th December. Senga didn’t want to commit because what if he breaks his jaw again in the MAX Title match? Tsutomu Oosugi encouraged him to win the MAX Title, then they can defend the IRON FIST Titles and then Senga will be a double champion!

5. Ryota Nakatsu 7th Anniversary Match: Ryota Nakatsu, SAGAT & Akiyori Takizawa defeated Takumi Tsukamoto, Fuminori Abe & Takato Nakano when Nakatsu pinned Nakano after the Happy Set (18:05).

The Happy Set is another version of the Big Mac, where a bunch more wrestlers stack up on each other before hitting a combined splash on the victim. In other words it’s named after the Happy Meal, except Japan calls it the Happy Set. It’s exactly the kind of treat everyone should get for Ryota Nakatsu’s celebration. Poor SAGAT had to carry all that weight though.

We already saw what Shuichiro Katsumura and Yumehito Imanari have been doing to prepare for the Ganbare☆Climax finals. This week the outsiders Tetsuhiro Kuroda and Tatsuhito Takaiwa were interviewed about their thoughts over the tournament. Kuroda was so impressed by Ken Ohka taking so many Lariats in their match that he wants him to be his first challenger if he becomes the first Spirit Of Ganbare Champion. He understands that Imanari is growing stronger but Kuroda has been wrestling for 29 years now. He wants to win because he can.

Takaiwa has mixed opinions on his tournament matches so far. Taison Maeguchi is a complete novice in pro wrestling so Takaiwa only cared about bringing out his feelings in the ring. The match against Mizuki Watase however felt more like pro wrestling. Both matches warmed Takaiwa’s heart in some way. He will be cautious against Katsumura but believes he has the heart to win the tournament. If he wins the Spirit Of Ganbare Title then he will have a Triple Crown of indie titles made up of that, the UWA World Jr. Title and the WEW Jr. Title. Takaiwa was also the first ever IWGP Jr. Tag Team Champion with Shinjiro Otani. Since Otani has a relationship with Ganbare☆Pro that means Takaiwa has no choice but to become the first Spirit Of Ganbare Champion!

The final is all about The 37KAMIINA. High school classmates Yuki Ueno and Konosuke Takeshita both won their blocks and have a big clash set for Korakuen Hall. Takeshita is unbeaten in this tournament while holding the KO-D Openweight Title. Ueno has climbed tooth and nail past a very difficult cast of opponents to meet his friend up at the top.

Daisuke Sasaki revealed that around ten years ago, Soma Takao made him eat dog food. He didn’t give much detail as to why it happened but the humiliation never left him. All this time they were together in DAMNATION and Sasaki let his anger over it linger. Apparently this was all part of a very long term plan. Sasaki brought Takao into DAMNATION just so he could eventually attack him from behind and make him eat dog food!

All of the D-Ou Grand Prix participants who failed to make the final are in a big 10-Man Tag Match. It’s the A Block Vs the B Block!

Two weeks before their Current Blast Death Match, Pheromones get Sanshiro Takagi all to themselves in a Handicap Match. Takagi has to have a trick up his sleeve otherwise why would he end up in a situation like this?

The DDT GM Hisaya Imabayashi has accused Yumehito Imanari as being the root of all evil behind the existence of Pheromones. He is calling in Shinya Aoki to deal with Imanari and get rid of him. Aoki also decided to put the DDT Extreme Title on the line and used his power as champion to ban all ringside attendants. That means Pheromones cannot be in Imanari’s corner. Imanari promised the match will still be indecent and he can’t wait for Aoki to experience it.
