4. Jun Akiyama & Tomomitsu Matsunaga defeated Chris Brookes & Kazuma Sumi when Matsunaga submitted Sumi with a Crab Hold (9:40).
5. Yuki Ueno defeated Keigo Nakamura with the Senko Dokuga (13:46).
6. Special 6-Man Tag Match: HARASHIMA, Kazusada Higuchi & Yukio Naya defeated Tetsuya Endo, Yuki Iino & Yuya Koroku when Higuchi pinned Koroku with the Claw Slam (12:09).
7. Shunma Katsumata 10th Anniversary Match ~ Are You Happy? Death Match: MAO defeated Shunma Katsumata when Katsumata was Not Happy after doing the Sauna Trance Splash from the Giga Ladder (19:44).

The rules of the Are You Happy? Death Match involved Yukinori Matsui asking MAO or Shunma Katsumata “Are you happy?” whenever they had taken a dangerous move. If a wrestler could no longer answer by saying “Happy!” then they would lose the match. The match had Lego, chairs, plastic boxes and a Giga Ladder used as a weapon. Katumsata stacked boxes filled with Lego on top of MAO, climbed the Giga Ladder and then hit the Sauna Trance Splash onto MAO. The crash left both of them in pain and MAO said he was “Happy!” to continue. Katsumata though couldn’t do anything but scream in pain. Matsui came to the conclusion that Katsumata wasn’t happy anymore and rewarded the victory to MAO. While Katsumata wanted a match against MAO to celebrate his 10th anniversary of his debut, he is ready to put the focus back on their ShunMao tag team. He thinks the strength of The 37KAMIINA is that they all stand together wanting to make DDT more exciting. They’ve become close friends over time for that reason.

Yuki Ueno used his version of the Shining Wizard he adopted from HUB to beat Keigo Nakamura. He thinks the most important thing a pro wrestler should have is confidence and he praises Nakamura for keeping his head held high through the difficult times. If Nakamura works hard then Ueno believes he will one day become the KO-D Openweight Champion. Nakamura said it was frustrating to lose today’s match but he will use that frustration as motivation to become the center of DDT!

The teams in Match #1 were switched around due to the requests of everyone involved.

338 Fans – Super No Vacancy

1. Takeshi Masada defeated Kazuma Sumi with the Masada No Chikara KOBU Mukimuki (6:54).
2. Yuki Iino, Keigo Nakamura & To-y defeated Makoto Oishi, Tomoya & Tomomitsu Matsunaga when Nakamura pinned Oishi with a Modified Crucifix Pin (7:57).
3. Sapporo Specialty Special Single Match: Noriyuki Yoshida defeated Kazuki Hirata with the Authorized Lightning Leg Lariat (8:06).
4. Jun Akiyama & HARASHIMA defeated Sanshiro Takagi & Rukiya when HARASHIMA pinned Rukiya with the Somato (8:52).
5. Special Single Match – Danshoku New York Style Match: Yoshitatsu defeated Danshoku Dieno with the CBJ (8:46).
6. BURNING Vs DAMNATION T.A!: Daisuke Sasaki & KANON defeated Tetsuya Endo & Yuya Koroku when Sasaki submitted Koroku with the Crossface Lock (10:58).
7. Special 6-Man Tag Match: Akito, Chris Brookes & Yukio Naya defeated Yuki Ueno, MAO & Shunma Katsumata when Brookes pinned Katsumata with the Praying Mantis Bomb (21:11).

Backstage after the show, Shunma Katsumata had a request for MAO. He wants their singles match tomorrow to be turned into a Are You Happy Death Match! All they need to do is laugh and whoever cannot laugh anymore will be the loser.

Daisuke Sasaki took a page out of an old flame’s book. He gave Yuya Koroku the Ball Plex that Candice LeRae used to do on the indies. That set up the Crossface Lock for the finish.

There was a rule change in one of today’s matches. Danshoku Dieno told Yoshitatsu that there match was being held under New York Rules. That means you can only win the match by kissing your opponent while pinning or submitting them. Dieno went for the Lip Lock but caught Yukinori Matsui instead of his opponent. Yoshitatsu plucked up the courage to give Dieno his own Lip Lock and keep it applied to pin him for the three count. He thinks he has room to improve but will take on the challenge of another New York Rules match if anyone ever challenges him to one again.

Keigo Nakamura was thrilled with today’s win because it is the first time he’s ever beaten a veteran! He used a Modified Crucifix Pin on Makoto Oishi as a counter for the Fujiyama Knee Lock to score the win for his team. That also means he just beat one of the previous KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Champions. Tomorrow he will face Yuki Ueno in a non-title match but he is so amped up that he will fight as if the KO-D Openweight Title was on the line.

Catching Up On The News I Missed

April 12, 2024

I’m back from holiday. The week both flew by while also feeling like a ton of news items happened while I was gone. I’ll be spending this weekend writing up last week’s show reports so you’ll be getting them eventually. But first I want to get the upcoming lineups out of the way. I’ll leave the King Of DDT and Ganbare☆Pro stuff for their own posts because I want to write about them separately.

TOKYO JOSHI PRO “TJPW LIVE TOUR 2024 SPRING”, 13/04/2024
Tokyo Kitazawa Town Hall

1. Yuki Kamifuku Vs Uta Takami
2. Mizuki & Nao Kakuta Vs Runa Okubo & Haru Kazashiro
3. Rika Tatsumi, Raku & Chika Nanase Vs Mahiro Kiryu, Toga & Kira Summer
4. Miu Watanabe, Suzume & Arisu Endo Vs Shoko Nakajima, Wakana Uehara & HIMAWARI
5. Moka Miyamoto Vs Juria Nagano
6. Moka Miyamoto, Juria Nagano & Kaya Toribami Vs Yuki Aino, Pom Harajuku & Shino Suzuki

The final matches of Juria Nagano’s career happens tomorrow. For her graduation she will be wrestling twice with her Shinken Kusho partner Moka Miyamoto. One match will be a singles match against each other while the second match is a 6-Woman Tag. Is that going to be the right match order though?

Hyper Misao is out of action with a right ankle fracture. It looked like she suffered the injury during her match against Steph De Lander at last week’s “GCW VS TJPW” show. Her return will be decided based on her doctor’s diagnosis and recovery time. The injury means she will miss her Daikaiju Pro match back in America later this month.

DDT “DRAMATIC DREAM TOUR 2024 IN FUKUOKA”, 13/04/2024
Fukuoka Nishitetsu Hall

1. Sanshiro Takagi & Toru Owashi Vs Danshoku Dieno & Kazuma Sumi

5. Daisuke Sasaki & KANON Vs Jun Akiyama & Rukiya
6. Special 6-Man Tag Match: Yuki Ueno, MAO & Shunma Katsumata Vs Akito, HARASHIMA & Kota Umeda

As always whenever I see Kota Umeda added to a DDT card it makes me wish he never left wrestling as a full time career.

BASARA “GAISEN SAKURA PRO WRESTLING”, 14/04/2024

1. Ryota Nakatsu Vs Lil’ Kraken

Tokyo Sumida Ward General Gymnasium

1. 3 Way Match: Yuni Vs Ilusion Vs Kazuma Sumi

7. KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles: Jun Akiyama, Danshoku Dieno & Makoto Oishi (c) Vs Daisuke Sasaki, KANON & MJ Paul
8. KO-D Openweight Title: Yuki Ueno (c) Vs Akito

Due to the request of Toru Owashi we are getting a ground breaking second defence by the reigning KO-D 10-Man Tag Team Champions! None of the previous champion teams have ever stuck together long enough to take part in a second title defence. SCHADENFREUDE International can now become the most successfuly 10-Man Tag Champs ever if they can beat Owashi’s team of scrappy challengers.

Some controversy happened over the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title while Sayaka Unagi was on her tour of America. She unexpectedly lost and then won back the title against an unknown wrestler at some point. No video footage of the title changes exist and Unagi does not know the name of the person who beat her. After having discussions with the DDT GM Hisaya Imabayashi it was agreed that “Strange Foreigner” will be recognised as the 1,620th champion and when Unagi won it back she became the 1,621st champion. The incident has motivated Sanshiro Takagi even more to reclaim the title for DDT in order to remove any risk of the championship being lost overseas forever.

Keigo Nakamura returns from injury and is immediately being put in the ring against MAO.

DDT “DRAMATIC DREAM TOUR 2024 IN SAPPORO – DAY 1”, 28/04/2024

DDT “DRAMATIC DREAMS! VOL. 11 ~ YUKINORI MATSUI REFEREE 30TH ANNIVERSARY BOX OFFICE ~ MAKING THE SQUARE WORLD INTERESTING”, 19/05/2024
Osaka City Sumiyoshi Civic Center

1. ACF & Koyo Daiichi Consultants Co., Ltd. Presents Single Match: Bushimasa Vs Thanomsak Toba

6. Triple Main Event – Special Tag Match ~DDT PRIDE~: Yuki Ueno & Kazusada Higuchi Vs MAO & Tetsuya Endo
7. Triple Main Event – From All Over The World, Arriving In Osaka. Special Singles Match ~THE ALPHA Vs King Of Pro Wrestling~: KONOSUKE TAKESHITA Vs Minoru Suzuki

The next match Yukinori Matsui is adding to his show is all about Dick Togo and the wrestlers who look up to him. Daisuke Sasaki, Yasu Urano and Antonio Honda have all been taken under Togo’s wing at some point during their careers.

So the first match on the lineup caught my attention. Thanomsak Toba will be taking on another martial artist called Bushimasa. The match is sponsored by A-Toys Challenge Fight, or ACF for short. I went looking for clips of Bushimasa and found some not so impressive looking fights of his. He has taken part in a match type called Tire Fights where a tyre is placed in the middle of the ring, both fighters stick a foot into the gap and have to box each other while keeping their foot in the tyre. Most of his fights I could find had him lose and convincingly so. I guess he exists to be a human punching bag?

Some of the other guests on the show include Jinsei Shinzaki, Yuji Hino and Shigehiro Irie. Also Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi has been added to the show lineup but does not have a match yet.

7. DDT Extreme Title – Hardcore Match: Shunma Katsumata (c) Vs Hi69
8. Dramatic Dream Tag Match: Yuki Ueno & MAO Vs Zack Sabre Jr. & Chris Brookes

Both To-y and Rukiya have commented on reaching the D GENERATIONS CUP final. To-y said competing in this year’s tournament made him feel more anxious than last year because he needed to get stronger in order to catch up to Hideki Okatani and Takeshi Masada. He had to ask himself what is his dream? It is to win the KO-D Openweight Title. In order to make that dream closer to coming true he needs to win this tournament for a spot in King Of DDT. Rukiya is only focused on winning the D GENERATIONS CUP. He has the least amount of experience out of all of the participants and understands that nobody expected him to win any of his matches. He regrets debuting too late to take part in last year’s tournament and is using those feelings to motivate him.

The seafood versus meat feud is entering into its third year and has taken another turn. Makoto Oishi has not only brought Chris Brookes and Shunma Katsumata onto the meat eater team but they also now have a sponsor! Maruto Poultry Shokuhin believe they make the best chicken meat in the world. The wrestlers on their team have taken on nicknames and now wear chicken masks to show their loyalty to the new sponsor. It is up to Shishamo Power, Unagi Mask & Super Unagi Mask to defend Yamada Suisan against this new rival on the market!

DDT “ROAD TO SUPER ARENA ~DRAMATIC DREAM CLOCK TOWER~”, 18/12/2016
Sapporo Sun Plaza
595 Fans – Super No Vacancy

1. Masahiro Takanashi & Soma Takao defeated Sanshiro Takagi & Kazuki Hirata when Takao pinned Hirata with the Gin And Tonic (9:52).
2. How About A Big Hokkaido! Two Big Single Match: Akito defeated Mad Paulie by Disqualification (12:06).
3. Keisuke Ishii & Tomoya defeated Yasu Urano & Koji Yoshida when Ishii pinned Urano with the High Angle Double Arm DDT (10:59).
4. DAMNATION Vs NωA!: Daisuke Sasaki & Tetsuya Endo defeated Makoto Oishi & Shunma Katsumata when Endo pinned Katsumata with the Torture Rack Bomb (14:10).
5. How About A Big Hokkaido! Two Big Single Match: Yoshihiro Takayama defeated Antonio Honda with a Leg Split (10:53).
6. Shuten-dōji Vs DNA Combination: KUDO & Yukio Sakaguchi defeated Kazusada Higuchi & Kouki Iwasaki when Sakaguchi pinned Iwasaki with the Right Knee Of God (17:40).
7. Sapporo Specialty! Sea Urchin, Scallop, Cuttlefish, Crab Bowl Special 4 Way Match: HARASHIMA defeated Shigehiro Irie, Konosuke Takeshita and Danshoku Dino when HARASHIMA pinned Dino with the Somato (14:10).

At one point in the 4 Way Match, Shigehiro Irie hit HARASHIMA with the Beast Bomber just when HARASHIMA was about to do the Somato on Danshoku Dino. Konosuke Takeshita took out Irie with the German Suplex. Dino then got rid of Takeshita with the Lip Lock. He tried to do the Raw Danshoku Driver but that was stopped by HARASHIMA who hit the Somato to win. HARASHIMA stared at Irie after the match and Irie just gave him a thumbs down.

Kazusada Higuchi is still dealing with getting pinned in yesterday’s DNA main event. With his mind elsewhere he wasn’t on the same page as Kouki Iwasaki which caused them to lose to Shuten-dōji.

When Yoshihiro Takayama put Antonio Honda in a submission hold early in their match, Honda teased giving up. It sounded like he was trying to say “Give Up” but it then turned out he actually said “Mel Gibson” and “Give me chocolate”. He then tried to distract Takayama by telling him the Three Little Pigs story. His last trick was attempting a Manjigatame but Honda pulled his groin in the process. Takayama then used a Leg Split submission to stretch Honda’s groin even further, making him submit to the pain.

The match between Akito and Mad Paulie ended in a DQ. What happened was Paulie became frustrated by being out-wrestled by Akito. So Paulie left the ring and came back with a rope to choke his opponent with. Akito tried to outmanoeuvre his way out of trouble but Paulie eventually got to him on the apron. Paulie went on a small rampage after he was DQ’ed. He gave Yuki Ueno a Lariat when Ueno tried to stop him.

Shin-Kiba 1st RING

1. Union MAX Title: Isami Kodaka or Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi (c) Vs X

A Union MAX Title defence being booked so soon after the next champion getting crowned suggests the championship will not be getting a makeover to fit in with its new home.

BASARA “VAJRA 27 ~OSAKA WINTER IN OYODO~”, 08/01/2017
Osaka Oyodo Community Center

One more skirmish before the big BASARA show. This time Isami Kodaka is bringing in the big guns. However Kengo Mashimo doesn’t always get along with him. So the main event may look one sided on paper but when the match takes place one wrong move can thrash Kodaka’s plans to pieces.

DDT “NEW YEAR LOTTERY SPECIAL! ALL SEATS 2,000 YEN BOX OFFICE!! 2017”, 03/01/2017
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. KO-D Openweight Title: HARASHIMA (c) Vs Mike Bailey

Mike Bailey has built a lot of momentum in the last few months, winning the week long DNA Grand Prix tournament and now holding the KO-D Tag Team Titles with Konosuke Takeshita. His success has been rewarded even more with a KO-D Openweight Title shot at DDT’s first Korakuen Hall show in 2017.

Joey Ryan, Laura James and Candice LeRae will be on this show.

TOKYO JOSHI PRO “TOKYO JOSHI PRO ’17”, 04/01/2017
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. Rika Tatsumi & Hyper Misao (w/ Minami Momochi) Vs Akane Miura & Maho Kurone
2. Reika Saiki Vs Itoh Maki

4. Konsho-gun Vs Married Woman Army: Azusa Takigawa & Nonoko Vs Ai Shimizu & Laura James
5. Mil Clown Vs Candice LeRae
6. Miyu Yamashita Vs Saki Akai
7. TOKYO Princess Of Princess Title: Yuu (c) Vs Shoko Nakajima

One of the big rivalries in Tokyo Joshi Pro’s history will come back for a special match. Miyu Yamashita has never been able to beat Saki Akai one on one. Akai has shown no interest in having any future plans with Tokyo Joshi so this may be Yamashita’s last chance for now to get that win.

Hyper Misao has enlisted Rika Tatsumi and Minami Momochi to help her latest attempt to protect Tokyo Joshi from evil. It wasn’t long ago when Akane Miura was practising snake magic although she has shown no evil behaviour since returning to normal. Maho Kurone however is pretty much a zombie now. She’s always been acting weird since her debut match but yeah, carrying a severed arm to the ring while her mouth is covered in blood isn’t exactly being subtle. Momochi will be finishing up her role as Tokyo Joshi’s ring announcer at this show so what a way to go, getting involved in this creepy situation.

DDT “ROAD TO SUPER ARENA IN OYODO ~DRAMATIC DREAM TENROKU~”, 09/01/2017
Osaka Oyodo Community Center

1. KO-D Tag Team Titles: Konosuke Takeshita & Mike Bailey (c) Vs Masakatsu Funaki & Yukio Sakaguchi

The pairing of Masakatsu Funaki & Yukio Sakaguchi at “OSAKA OCTOPUS 2016” worked so well that they will get a KO-D Tag Title shot next month.

2. Sanshiro Takagi & Tomoya defeated Daisuke Sasaki & Suguru Miyatake when Tomoya pinned Miyatake with the S.O.D. (9:47).

4. Antonio Honda defeated Kazuki Hirata with the Manjigatame (11:28).

7. Sapporo Speciality North Country Special 4 Way Match: Shigehiro Irie defeated HARASHIMA, Yukio Sakaguchi and Konosuke Takeshita when Irie pinned Takeshita with the Shigehiro Final Impact (14:56).

Shigehiro Irie said he was happy to beat Konosuke Takeshita at DDT’s final show in Sapporo this year. He wants to return to Sapporo with Yuji Okabayashi as the reigning KO-D Tag Team Champions.

Akito said he is mentally preparing for whatever crazy rules Kendo Kashin will come up with for their DDT Extreme Title match this Wednesday.

Ken Ohka was frustrated by his defeat to Masa Takanashi. He claimed afterwards that Takanashi didn’t beat him, he beat himself.

Tetsuya Endo thinks he is bouncing back from his failure to win the KO-D Openweight Title. He is taking what he learned from that match and putting it into this week’s Tag Title match.

Sanshiro Takagi brought out a lightsaber for Match #2. He warned the audience that Daisuke Sasaki & Suguru Miyatake were part of the Imperial Army! Sasaki denied those claims. Trouble began when Sasaki accidentaly struck his partner with his elbow. Miyatake stormed out of the ring and said he was going to join the Dark Side. The lights dimmed and suddenly the Imperial March started playing. Miyatake reappeared in the ring with a lightsaber in his hand and a paper Darth Vader mask covering his face! He and Takagi then had a lightsaber duel. Miyatake won the duel and turned his attention to Tomoya. The Hokkaido native fought off Miyatake’s use of the Force and defeated him with his S.O.D. finisher.
