Yuki Ueno scores first blood against Yukio Naya as they begin building up their KO-D Openweight Title clash at the end of the month. The unity between The 37KAMIINA along with a few goofy ideas along the way was the difference maker. They used a large rubber band to slingshot a gym ball at Hideki Okatani before Ueno pinned him with the Jul.2 for the victory. Ueno held the title belt up for Naya to see after the match. He said the matches they are having this weekend are important and he won’t lose to Naya just because Naya is big and strong.

DAMNATION T.A attacked Tetsuya Endo during his match against Takeshi Masada. Endo had Masada in the Let’s Combine submission hold when Daisuke Sasaki & KANON ran into the ring for the ambush. Yuki Iino came to the rescue and got rid of DAMNATION T.A, allowing the match to continue. Endo was already in a bad state when Sasaki gave him the Pedigree but he kicked out of Masada’s pin and cradled him with the Forest Bridge to survive with the win. Endo was angry at Sasaki’s selfish actions ruining the match. Sasaki threatened even more ambushes to come because he knows which hotel and restaurant Endo will be staying at this weekend!

D.O.A defeated Bodyguard’s team to successfully defend both the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles as well as the Dead Or Alive name. However that is not the end of the unit’s trouble over that branding. After the match Kazusada Higuchi confronted them and read out a letter given to him by Hikaru Sato. The letter said “Dead Or Alive” has been a motto used on Sato’s T-shirts for a long time and he cannot let anyone else use it. So Higuchi, Sato & Ryo Kawamura are challenging D.O.A on 28th January for both the naming rights as well as the KO-D 6-Man Tag Titles.

It’s been a long time since Yoshitatsu & Yusuke Okada teamed up together. Just don’t mention the name Yoshitatsu Kingdom to Okada. He asked Yoshitatsu not to bring that thing up again.

Yukinori Matsui announced he will be producing a show in Osaka City Sumiyoshi Civic Center on 19th May to celebrate his 30th Anniversary in wrestling.

For the second time this week Shuichiro Katsumura has successfully defended a championship against Ken Ohka. This time it was the Spirit Of Ganbare Tag Team Titles on the line with GROUND ABSOLUTE facing Ohka & HARASHIMA. Ohka was able to hit the Shin Flame Spear but was too beaten up at that point to make the pin in time. Takuya Wada took advantage by giving Ohka a Dragon Suplex and then tangling him into a Twister submission for the victory. Afterwards Katsumura asked if there were any more challengers for him and Wada? If there is not then perhaps GROUND ABSOLUTE will fight each other for the Spirit Of Ganbare World Title!

Ohka admitted he and HARASHIMA probably should not have challenged for the SOG Tag Titles because they haven’t won a tag match together since 2015. However HARASHIMA said the match came into existence because of Ohka’s passion. He has a special place in his heart for Ohka so he hopes one day they will win a tag team championship together.

The participants of tomorrow’s three title matches all gathered together for contract signings and a press conference earlier today. Masha Slamovich bragged about her success in 2023 that included pinning Miyu Yamashita at “COMBAT PRINCESS USA”. She thinks it is time for a new Princess Of Princess Champion to be crowned in 2024. If she becomes champion she intends to defend it around the world and have the longest reign in the title’s history. Yamashita said she visited many states in America last year and wherever she went, Slamovich was always there. After wrestling each other so much in USA, Yamashita wanted to wrestle her in Japan and asked Tetsuya Koda to bring her over to have this title match. She feels the pressure but enjoys it because she wants to take bigger risks so her fourth title reign can stand out.

Three teams are now ready to fight each other for the vacant Princess Tag Team Titles. As far as Daisy Monkey are concerned the situation has not changed for them. Suzume & Arisu Endo want to win the belts that were held by Tokyo Joshi Pro’s strongest tag teams. Daydream last held the titles in 2020 so Miu Watanabe would like to make her daydreams with Rika Tatsumi come true again. Tatsumi always thought it was strange that Daydream were not the next challengers in the first place. Yuki Aino is happy to get a chance to win the tag titles with Ryo Mizunami. Her tag partner is often called “Everyone’s Aniki” but when they win Aino wants it to change to “My Aniki”! Mizunami said 2024 is the Year Of The Dragon and she was also born in the Year Of The Dragon. So it is fate that she and Aino can leave a mark in TJPW by becoming the new tag champions!

Yuki Arai signed the International Princess Title match contract while waiting for Max The Impaler to show up. She talked about this being her second shot at the title and how she lost the Princess Tag Titles at last year’s Ittenyon show. She wants to start off her year shining and become champion for Saki Akai. Max then finally arrived at the building and marked the contract with their thumb which counts as their signature. Max then pulled out a hair band that Arai recognised. It is the hairband that Max took from her when The Wasteland War Party beat Reiwa AA Cannon for the Princess Tag Titles last year! Arai promised to win the belt and also get her hairband back!

The first new addition to DDT this year is Yoshitatsu. He left All Japan a few days ago and chose DDT as his landing spot because the place reminds him of how fun pro wrestling can be. Jun Akiyama is someone in particular he wants to be in the ring with again so they get to team up in Yoshitatsu’s first match under this new arrangement.

Daisuke Sasaki approached Tetsuya Endo after today’s show and suggested they should join forces again. His argument is Endo no longer has any ties to BURNING without Akiyama involved and with that he shouldn’t have anything holding him back either. He left before Endo could respond so what will happen next?

The winner of the D-Oh Grand Prix 2023 is Yukio Naya which means he is now lined up for a KO-D Openweight Title shot! Yuki Ueno admits Naya proved he is the strongest wrestler in DDT but the championship belongs to only the most interesting. The battles over different visions for what DDT should be will continue to flare throughout this year.

The previous DDT Extreme Champion is back from injury and wants to win the belt again. Shunma Katsumata has been a a big supporter of Kazuki Hirata’s current title reign and is eager to find out what rules Hirata will come up with.

The biggest match yet in the DDT Vs All Japan rivalry has been announced. Konosuke Takeshita will be representing DDT on its 27th Anniversary against Yuma Aoyagi! The former Triple Crown Champion wants to introduce his own “Dramatic Dream” to Takeshita and sees this match as a path that will lead him down to Yuki Ueno and the KO-D Title!

For the first time DDT has an intern pro wrestler. Tsubasa Suzuki is a student wrestler from Hitotsubashi University World Pro Wrestling Alliance (or HWWA for short). He was born in Shizuoka on 14th August 2002. He is 176cm tall, weighs 80kg and has a background in track and field as well as his student wrestling club. She has already decided on who she wants to face in her first match back but it has not been announced yet.

The D-Oh Grand Prix final is going to be between Tetsuya Endo and Yukio Naya with both men fighting to win the tournament for the first time. The two were in the same room together for a press conference on Christmas Day so they could talk about the upcoming match. Endo said his block match against Kazusada Higuchi was his most memorable of the tournament. Not only was Higuchi as tough an opponent as ever but Endo could sense fun and positive emotions in their air as they fought. On the negative side, Endo would like to get revenge on HARASHIMA and Daisuke Sasaki for the block matches he lost to them. Naya said Rei Saito was the opponent who left the strongest impression on him because they had a battle to see who was stronger. He finished last year’s Grand Prix as the runner up so he has no choice but to win the final this year. Endo told reporters he has no intention of changing his wrestling style, it just updates little by little. He beat Higuchi with the Burning Star Press so he is confident the same move will beat Naya.

The Saito Brothers told DDT to find them a team to fight on the show. Kazusada Higuchi & Rukiya have stepped up to take their challenge.

A new celebrity is going to enter the pro wrestling world! Kaisei Takechi is a performer from a popular song and dance group called THE RAMPAGE from EXILE TRIBE. He is an actor as well, having a supporting role in the ABEMA drama Fukumen D from 2022. That show was about a high school student becoming a pro wrestler and the wrestling related portions of that show involved help from, you guessed it, DDT (or BBT as it was known there)! Takechi has a little bit of experience with wrestling after having a match with Tetsuya Endo and Makoto Oishi that was held on a variety TV show. This led to Takechi deciding to train for a proper pro wrestling debut scheduled for 25th February.

Toru Owashi admits he is more worried about the mental stress of being in the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title Battle Royal for his return match rather than the physical stress. He knows his best skill is managing traffic during chaotic matches but the appearance of this new guy called The Great Koji has him a little concerned the pressure will be too much to handle. Owashi thinks he can beat Koji to win the Iron Man Title but to be honest, he doesn’t really want it.

During the week Ken Ohka & Keisuke Ishii travelled to the All Japan dojo in Yokohama so they could train for a few hours with Shuji Ishikawa. The three of them have ties going back to Union Pro. Ishii invaded the promotion and kicked Ohka out of Union by winning a Loser Leaves Town match. Ohka went on to form GanPro and started a war with Union and Ishikawa. A lot of time has passed since then and Ohka is proud to see how far all three of them have advanced since then. The training session included Ishikawa coming up with ideas to improve Ohka’s finisher the Fire Spear. The move has been countered a lot by Ohka’s current enemy Kuma Arashi in their recent matches. Ishikawa and Ishii instructed Ohka new ways to use the Spear so there will be less opportunities for it to be countered. By the end of the session Ohka can now hit the Spear with more accuracy, less momentum and also from a shorter range.

Shunma Katsumata revealed the reason why he wanted Eruption to be his opponents for his return match. 2024 is going to be Katsumata’s 10th year in wrestling and Yukio Sakaguchi was one of his opponents in his debut match. So Katsumata wants to kick off his tenth year by fighting his very first pro opponent again. He is impressed by how well Hideki Okatani performed in the Real World Tag League. And finally Katsumata appreciates all the hard work Toy Kojima did to protect The 37KAMIINA while he was recovering at home. The Ittenyon tradition continues with the fifth annual Shoko Nakajima Vs Hyper Misao singles match! Nothing extra has been announced yet but there is always a wacky stipulation attached to these matches. The first two matches also had the winner change the loser’s name for a month but they stopped doing that for the third and fourth matches in order to keep the harmony within Kyoraku Kyomei for the upcoming Max Heart Tournament. Giving one of them an identity crisis right before the big tag team tournament is not a good idea.

Ryo Mizunami will be on the show.

Also on the show is the return of Lethal Weapon! The duo of Hartley Jackson & HARUKAZE have arguably been the top mixed tag team in GanPro. That makes them the perfect opponents for Banny Oikawa who is continuing down her path of intergender tag wrestling. She teams with Shigehiro Irie.

Kaho Matsushita is from Ice Ribbon. That company just announced a restructure with new investments attached to them so it might be an interesting story to see what they can do in 2024.

Toy Kojima came out and challenged Eruption for the All Asia Tag Team Titles over the weekend with Atsushi Onita planned to be his tag partner. Yukio Sakaguchi was not interested with the idea in the least but Hideki Okatani was open to it as long as Kojima could raise the stakes higher. Since Kojima & Onita were already planning to team together again next month for another Current Blast Death Match, Kojima decided that can be where the title bout takes place! Eruption agreed and the challenge was signed off by the PWF commission. The PWF still has Dory Funk Jr. as its president so I can only imagine he was asked to sanction an exploding death match for the belts and he replied “yeah, that makes a lot of sense.”

The D-Oh Grand Prix continues tomorrow. A Block still has everyone in the race so it’s only fair to have Yuki Ueno Vs Tetsuya Endo and Kazusada Higuchi Vs HARASHIMA be the top two matches of the show. But over in B Block Yukio Naya is one more step towards cleaning up the entire group if he beats KANON. The Kazuki Hirata Vs Rei Saito match is pretty much just for pride at this point. Not that Hirata has that much pride to begin with but you know what I mean.

Eruption are also back from the Real World Tag League looking to shake off their middle of the table finish. They might have a long line of challengers forming up in front of them so they need to retain the All Asia Tag Team Titles against BURNING if they have any intention of dealing with that.

Last night in the space of about half an hour there were two Tokyo Joshi Pro title matches taking place in North America. Over in Quebec, Canada Max The Impaler had a surprise International Princess Title defence at the Mystery Wrestling show put together by Evil Uno. Max defeated Jody Threat in the semi-main event. Word of the match reached back to TJPW and they officially recognize it as Max’s third successful title defence. That now means if Max beats Yuki Arai on 4th January they will tie the current record for most IP Title defences in a single reign at four wins.

Then as soon as that match had finished Miyu Yamashita was entering the ring in New York, USA to defend the Princess Of Princess Title against Delmi Exo at an MLW show. She won that match to earn her second defence in this latest title run. Maki Itoh was also on the show but she lost to Janai Kai in a match for the MLW World Featherweight Title. I’ll write more about the matches on the next DDT Around The World article at the start of next month.

So false alarm, the Globe Theatre is not closing down after all and Tokyo Joshi Pro’s show there with Prestige is going ahead there as planned. Even more good news, the full card for the show is out. Shoko Nakajima takes on Taya Valkyrie, a non-title match sees Mizuki take on Sandra Moone, the first meeting of Moka Miyamoto and Trish Adora together, Free WiFi in tag action against Janai Kai & Johnnie Robbie plus the team now known as Pompaler taking on Rika Tatsumi & Amira.

One by one Isami Kodaka is vanquishing the Ganbare☆Pro roster as they take turns trying to take the Spirit Of Ganbare Title from him. Shuichiro Katsumura is next and wants the title match to take place in Korakuen Hall at the end of the year. Kodaka likes the idea because if he wins then that means GanPro has to keep booking him next year. Katsumura is currently one half of the Spirit Of Ganbare Tag Team Champions so he is also fighting to become a double GanPro champion.

The one sided feud between Ken Ohka and Kuma Arashi with bigger stakes on the line. Arashi is getting bored of beating Ohka over and over. But he will do it one more time on the condition that when he wins he gets title shots for both the SOG Title and SOG Tag Titles.

We have more examples of the Young Communication generation interacting with each other when ROMANCE DAWN goes against Keisuke Ishii & Shigehiro Irie.

Earlier this year at “WRESTLE PRINCESS IV” there was a Ganbare☆Joshi Vs TJPW tag match that ended with Arisu Endo beating Yoshiko Hasegawa by submission. A singles rematch between the two is giving Hasegawa a chance to avenge that loss in her own promotion.

An inter-promotional 10-Man Tag Match sees Yumehito Imanari leading a GanPro team against a group of wrestlers from GLEAT. The GLEAT side has not decided on who they are sending yet but Imanari demanded that Kaz Hayashi be one of them. Also Takuya Wada has shown interest in being on the GanPro team because he has no SOG Tag Titles defence scheduled for the show.
